Jun 6-9: Traverse de Sioux First Annual Powwow, Conference, Gathering
Location: 20 miles southwest Sisseton, SD
Event Detail: The Traverse de Sioux business will be offering a four day retreat away from modernization. A conference on Indian issues, traditions, natural remedies, spirituality, values will be held, sweat lodge and pipe ceremony gatherings will be included all four days. The Powwow is scheduled for June 9th. Vendors & arts and crafts people are welcome! Bring your own tipis, tents, blankets, cooking utensils and toiletry. Water will be available from a well and porta-toilets available, shower areas available. Tours and other events are scheduled during the day. No alcohol or drugs on premises. Security provided. Spiritual leader and pipe carriers available for healing all four days.

Event Detail: Medicine Winds News & Crescent Creek Cottages and RV Park are proud to present Powwow Under the Pines featuring Spirit Horse Singers and the Klamath Youth Dancers. This event is an Honor dance for Mike WhiteBird who has been gifted the Straight Dance by Melvin Kerchee Sr of the Comanche Nation and will include an Introduction to the Arena ceremony conducted by Melvin Sr's grandson Ian Kerchee. The powwow will be held under the pines along Crescent Creek and is open to the public. We will be honoring veterans, teaching inter-tribal dances and holding morning seminars to explain what powwow is all about, powwow ettiquete, and the Youth dancers will be teaching visitors about different types of Powwow Dances for our Non-Native guests to enjoy. Vendors will include: Commemorative Powwow T-Shirt sales, Frybread and Indian Taco sales, Arts and Crafts, and more! There will be several raffles and auctions held to defray costs of Powwow and to provide donation funds for the Youth Dancers to up-grade dance regalia and provide travelling funds for their summer activities. A special Dads and Daughters dance will be held on Saturday evening, so bring your dad and come out and join in the fun!
