Event Detail: The American Indian Pow Wow Association (AIPA) is hosting its 32nd Annual Pow Wow at Thomas Square in Honolulu, Hawai`i on Saturday and Sunday, October 7th and 8th, 2006, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, both days. Everyone is invited to attend this free event, which will feature competition dancing, drumming, singing, arts and crafts, and food. No drugs or alcohol are allowed. This is Hawaii's only competition pow wow. The Wild Horse Singers, from Southern California, will be the host drum and they will be recording a live album at this year's event. The Wildhorse Singers come from many different nations, including Navajo, Apache, Papago, Cherokee, Lumbee, Paiute, Winnebago, and Muskogee Creek. Special guests include: Head Man Dancer, Shane Ridley Stevens (Te-Moake Band of Western Shoshoni); Head Woman Dancer, Wanda Dawson (Dine); Master of Ceremonies, John Dawson (San Carlos Apache); and Arena Director Tom Rowland (Oglala Lakota). The J.C. Singers & Dancers of the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, from Port Angeles, Washington will be attending as well as guest drums Hunter's Moon and Wild Rice, both of Hawaii will also be singing. Event Detail: This event is a cultural fest covering the early 1800 period when Lake City, Florida was called "Alligator" after Seminole leader Halpatter Tustenuggee, famous for his part in the 1835 Dade Battle. Events center around southeaster Native American and that of the settlers from the United States. Other Native cultures are also featured, with stage shows, a live alligator show, Native American and trapper camps, crafts demonstrators, food, dancing, and whatever may suddenly break out due to the enthusiasm of the period demonstrators and crafters.Camping is available for modern and period folk, with hot showers, flush toilets, and secutity. One meal per day for registered participants is provided. The event is opent from 9 am til 9 pm on Friday and Saturday, and til 4 pm on Sunday. Everyone may arive on Thursday, Oct. 12, and stay until Monday Oct. 16. Pre-registration is required, with a fee of $55 for vendors. Demonstrators of crafts and skills are free and may make minor sales if approved in advance.
