2019 NRLHF Eastern Primitive Rendezvous

Experience the pre-1840s fur trade era at the 43rd Annual Eastern Primitive Rendezvous on September 20-28, 2019 at Hotchkiss Family Farm in Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. The blast of a Muzzleloader, the aroma of stew cooking over a campfire and folks who look like they stepped out of a history book will be greeting visitors to this years NRLHF Eastern Primitive Rendezvous. This event is a week long reenactment of a rendezvous, where fur trappers, long hunters, American Indians and frontier families gather to experience the way people lived in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Sutlers will be selling a variety of supplies. Sponsored by the National Rendezvous and Living History Foundation, the Eastern location changes annually so the foundation encourages people to take advantage of the opportunity to visit.

NRLHF Eastern Primitive Rendezvous

Costs:
–NMLRA members and spouse or significant other – $50 each
–Non-members – $60 each
–Registration at gate – add $10 per adult
–Early set-up charge – $5/day per adult if not pre-registered
–Trader fee – $50
–Commercial blanket trader – $20

Gate hour’s for early setup are 8am – 6pm. Early set up for all pre-registered participants will begin Wednesday. There is no charge. Gate hour’s Monday through Saturday are 8-10am (vehicles must leave camp by 11am) and 3-5pm (vehicles must leave camp by 6pm)

Rendezvous Rules go into effect Friday at 7AM. Period clothing required.

School Day: Tuesday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Camp Feast – Wednesday: Follows the camp meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Please bring a covered dish to share and a drink for yourself. Meat will be provided. The meal will be served per individual – please do not bring one large container for the entire family or camp.

NRLHF Eastern Primitive Rendezvous Mini Gallery

Public days for the Rendezvous are Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm. Gate hours for participants are 7 – 9am (vehicles must leave camp by 10am) and 5-7pm (vehicles must leave camp by 8pm).

“Sutler” area will be open to the public every day from 10am – 4pm with a donation of $5.00 per person 13 and older. Children ages 12 and younger and active military personnel with ID are free.

Pre-registrated Traders may set up Tuesday; however, you must set up in a designated “Sutler” area. Gate hour’s are 8am – 6pm.

Gate hours will be strictly enforced.

With the exception of Corps of Discovery campers who wish to enter the gate on the Wednesday after opening day for a charge of $40 per person whether NMLRA member or not, will be allowed to camp for the duration of the event. They will have full rights including medallion, camp feast and competitions.

Modern camping will be available. There will be no hook-ups provided.

[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Partial list of NRLHF rules and regulations”] Clothing, lodges and accoutrements must be from the period 1640 – 1840 in North America. Absolutely no modern footwear or sunglasses, unless medically required. Eye and hearing protection is encouraged on the firing line only. Modern items (coolers, cell phones, cans, etc.) must be kept out of sight at all times. No modern weapons.

No propane, kerosene, charcoal lighter fluid or similar flammable liquids will be permitted. Exceptions may be made for food vendors and handicapped participants. Propane containers must be kept out of sight at all times. Commercial food vendor equipment will be inspected by rendezvous staff for safety. Fire extinguishers are required by state law. Inspectors have the final word concerning safety.

Handicap participants must abide by the rules as much as possible. Handicap carts and walkers area allowed. NRLHF follows ADA rules for service dogs.

NO PETS are allowed in primitive camp. Pets in the modern camping area are subject to the NRLHF nuisance law.
Photography equipment must be covered when not in use. NO FLASH photography!

Firewood, hooters, water and dumpsters will be provided. Trash must be in tied plastic bags.
No animals other than horses and mules will be allowed in camp. Horses and mules are required to meet current health requirements and Coggins papers must be provided. A designated horse camp will be provided. You are responsible for the safety, conduct and feed of animals. Wagons, buggies and accessories must be period appropriate.

Dealers and possessors of Furs, claws, feathers, etc, it is your responsibility to confirm the compliance of goods with federal and Pennsylvania game regulations.

Conduct which disrupts the peace and order of the camp may result in immediate expulsion from the event. Stealing, fighting, or illegal drug use will not be tolerated and will result in immediate expulsion from the event. Depending on severity, local law enforcement may be notified.

Trade Policy – A “Trader” or “Sutler” is defined as anyone who sets up a trade shelter or lodge or sets out a trade blanket or hide with goods for sale. A “small trade blanket or hide” is restricted to one blanket or hide per license, and must not exceed 110″ x 110″. No fee is paid if total of goods for sale does not exceed $500. A “large trade blanket”, two or more blankets or hides with items for sale, may contain up to $1,500 in merchandise.

A “Commercial Trader” is anyone who offers goods for sale, trade or barter with a total value of more than $1,500.

The only items to be displayed, sold, or traded in any way at the NRLHF Eastern Primitive Rendezvous are originals or reproductions of articles in common use in North America during the period 1640 – 1840. No modern packaging, labels or price tags are to be displayed. Books, patterns, CDs, etc. must deal directly with or depict this time period and must be displayed in a trade shelter. For all trade-related matters, the decision of the Trade Captain is final. Blanket traders are required to abide by all trade rules. Inspections will be done the Trade Captain or designee.

TAXES: Procurement of Federal, State, County and Township business license and or the collection of consumer sales tax in the state where the event is held is the responsibility of the Trader.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]
