2019 Civil War Siege of Port Hudson Reenactment
The annual Civil War Siege of Port Hudson Reenactment will be held on March 30-31, 2018 at the Port Hudson State Historic Site in Jackson, Louisiana. The public is welcome to visit between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM both days, with visitors having access to volunteer reenactors in Union and Confederate campsites performing typical activities of the assaults.
Civil War Siege of Port Hudson Reenactment
Reenactors dressed in authentic reproduction uniforms will be on hand to answer questions pertaining to the siege, as well as life as a Union or Confederate soldier during the summer of 1863. The three branches of the services – artillery, cavalry and infantry – will be portrayed, as well as cooks, laundresses and sutlers.
Admission to the site and event is $4 per person and free for children 3 and under and seniors 62 and older. Port Hudson State Historic Site, designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974, is located on U.S. 61 near Zachary, about 15 minutes north of Baton Rouge. - The reenactment battle scenarios for both Saturday and Sunday will be the Battle of Plains Store and Slaughter’s Field.
- All day (both days) – interpretive demonstrations at camp site next to museum tower.
- View scale reproduction model gunboat fleet on pond by museum parking lot
- Cold drinks and Concessions are on sale by the Zachary High School Band.
- Visit the Union or Confederate campsites at your leisure.
- Picnic Area available across the large field.
- Visit the Sutlers to purchase authentic reproduction Civil War merchandise.

About the Siege
The Siege of Port Hudson lasted May 22 through July 9, 1863, marking the longest siege on American soil. Thousands of men died during the victory in the Union’s strategy to control the Mississippi and Red rivers, cutting off Confederate forces from much-needed supplies.
About the Park
Port Hudson State Historic Site is a Civil War Battlefield with a Museum and hiking trails located right off of U.S. Hwy 61 just 14 miles north of Baton Rouge. We have 6 miles of trails, a large picnic area with two pavilions and restrooms. We are open Wednesday thru Sunday 9am to 5pm. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays along with Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
