2019 Michigan’s Heritage Park Civil War Weekend
Join us for Michigan’s Heritage Park Civil War Weekend on June 8-9, 2019 in Whitehall, Michigan and get lost in the 1860s with the sights, smells, and sounds of one of history’s most famous conflicts. Visit the soldiers in their camp and learn about what their lives were like dealing with the problems and issues of camp life. Visit the civilians who followed them and learn about how the war affected life back home.
Visitors will also have a chance to watch a battle unfold on our activity field! Plus, games and activities and the entire park for visitors to explore. Michigan’s Heritage Park Civil War Weekend will include drills, battles, music, children’s activities, and a talks by special presenters.
The Third Michigan Volunteer Infantry Company F Reenactors, a group of civilian reenactors, will set up camp at the park for the weekend. The men and women of the Third Michigan are as authentic as possible in their dress and manner as they portray what life was like during the American Civil War for soldiers and civilians alike.
The park will open at 10 a.m. both days. On Saturday, there will be a drill at 10:30 a.m., author’s presentation at 1:00 p.m., children’s activities at 1:30 p.m. and a battle at 2:30 p.m. Sunday there will be a Church Service in the pavilion at 10:15 a.m., a drill at 10:45 a.m., author’s presentation at 1:00 p.m., children’s activities at 1:30 p.m. and a battle at 2:30 p.m.
Period-era musical performances will serenade attendees throughout the park grounds both days. They perform songs of soldiers and civilians during the Civil War, folk melodies, and popular ballads of the time in an interactive and historically informative style. Their presentation is funded in part by Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Michigan’s Heritage Park, a site of the Lakeshore Museum Center, is a 19-acre living history park which explores 10,000 years of Michigan history in a natural woodland setting in Whitehall. A gentle half-mile paved trail winds through the park with interactive encounters along the way. During the Civil War event, all of the park sites will be open for visitors.
