Join us for the 19th Annual Morning Star Pow Wow on January 12, 2019 at John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland. All are welcome as participants or spectators to experience the sights and sounds of Native American singing and dancing, the beautiful regalia of the various dance styles of the men, women, boys and girls, and their movement to the sounds of the drum.

Morning Star Pow Wow

Since 2001, the John Carroll School has held the Morning Star Pow Wow to raise funds for St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana. St. Labre serves Cheyenne and Crow families through three schools that offer the range of opportunities that a good education makes possible. In addition to the benefit aspect of the pow wow, it also supports and builds the American Indian community of the central Atlantic area. The final purpose of the Morning Star Pow Wow is to provide a cultural and educational event for our students and the wider community. There is much to learn from Native culture, and this pow wow provides a great opportunity to do just that.

Attendance and participation has increased each year so that the Morning Star Pow Wow now features 5 drum groups, over 100 dancers, over 20 traders, and over 2,000 spectators. A good spirit pervades as people enjoy old friends and make new ones. You are all invited to be a part of this day that celebrates Native tradition.

Cost: Suggested Donation for Admission is $5 per adult and $2 per child.
Proceeds benefit St. Labré Indian School in Ashland, Montana.

About Support of St. Labre Indian School
Every year John Carroll School donates one hundred percent of the profits from the Morning Star Pow Wow to St. Labre Indian School in Ashland, Montana. St. Labre is important in the Northern Cheyenne and Crow communities because it offers a quality education that students on the reservation would not have access to otherwise.

The pow wow is a beautiful event that has brought many to tears over the years during the singing of the Indian National Anthem. This is a traditional benefit pow wow to raise funds for St. Labre Indian School, a school that serves Cheyenne and Crow families through three schools. These schools offer a range of opportunities that a good education makes possible.
