The Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park is the venue for the Second Seminole War Battle of Okeechobee Reenactment. The State of Florida has purchased a 145 acre parcel of the original battlefield as a state park. The National Trust for Public Lands identified the Okeechobee Battlefield as one of America’s most endangered historic sites, due to the encroachment by roads, homes and commercial development. The Okeechobee Battlefield was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in the 1960s, and the 640-acre site is a National Landmark, dedicated in 1939 by a bronze plaque on a concrete block placed by the Daughters of the American Revolution.
