Located in Riverton\, the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous is the only reenactment on the actual untouched\, historic site where the “1838 Rendezvous” took place! You will be walking the same ground as Jim Bridger\, Kit Carson\, and Moses “Black” Harris to name a few. \n\n1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous\nThe fun starts with a parade down Main Street in Riverton\, followed by opening ceremonies and Native American dancing. Then the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous begins with black powder shooting\, hawk ‘n knife competitions and numerous seminars centered around the fur trapping era. And ‘Traders Row’ is a great place to bargain for a souvenir. \nThe organizers of the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous pride themselves on having a “beginners” or “teaching” rendezvous with seminars offered. Family day activities for kids and “non” participants in the rendezvous. There are seminars on fire starting with flint and steel\, dutch oven cooking\, flint knapping\, Teepee set-up and organization\, various trapping methods\, historical information about the era\, and many others. \nThe 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous is open to the public and family friendly. For those “beginner” rendezvousers\, who are looking to join a richly rewarding and fun event… you will not disappointed! Lending the modern event a particularly historic air\, the camp used today is the same one used over 150 years ago. Pitch your teepee or modern tin-teepee under the same cottonwoods as the real mountain men did (or update tradition by staying in an area hotel). Then venture out for knife- and tomahawk-throwing contests and demonstrations\, crafts\, kids games and campfire singing. \nSupport the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous\nThe annual reenactment of the 1838 Rendezvous is part the effort to draw attention to the history and romance of the area. Reenactors\, or “buckskinners have done their part for the site\, but the organization is presently in need of more members who are creative\, energetic and love history. They need active members who care how the world sees Wyoming’s ancient landscape and early history. “We have a lot to do and we need help\, said an association member\, “People come from all over the world to this site. European\, South American\, Canadian and Asian people visited the site this year and we can make their impression of American values more accurate by showing how important this site is to American history”. \nAlso: Primitive Black Powder Shooting Matches\, Hawk & Knife Throwing training & competitions\, Nightly Council Fire\, Pre-1840 Trade Goods\, Wood & Water Available \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous in July at the Wind River Heritage Center in Riverton\, Wyoming. \nTags: 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Wyoming Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Wyoming Buckskinner Rendezvous\, Wyoming Rendezvous \nView other Wyoming Rendezvous

It was built in what is now Perrysburg\, Ohio\, on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River rapids. Ground was broken on February 2\, 1813 under the orders of General William Henry Harrison\, who wanted to fortify the region. Throughout the next three months professional soldiers and militiamen alike persevered through cold winter weather and mud that would at times be knee-deep. Despite horrid weather and disease in the camp\, the American army was able to complete Fort Meigs by the end of April\, 1813\, just in time for a British attack. Begin your journey in the Fort Meigs Visitor Center. Purchase tickets to explore the fort or shop the museum store. The administrative offices\, museum\, education center\, restrooms and vending machines are all found in the Visitor Center. All visits to Fort Meigs begin and end here. It is your gateway to life in 1813! General Horatio Gates\, their newly-appointed commander\, quickly sprung into action reorganizing\, resupplying\, and restoring the discipline of America’s northern defense. Gates put soldiers from New England\, New York\, New Jersey\, and Pennsylvania to work building earthworks all around the old Fort of Ticonderoga and constructing a navy to defend Lake Champlain. \n1776 was a year of rebuilding the Northern Army as part of building a new nation. While the Continental Congress discussed the finer points of declaring independence in Philadelphia\, the shattered remnants of the Continental Army which had come so close to capturing Quebec trickled back down to Fort Ticonderoga. Frost bitten\, starving\, and decimated by smallpox these soldiers began building up bulwarks and America’s first navy to defend their new nation. A new Continental Army emerged reinforced by soldiers from Pennsylvania\, Connecticut\, Massachusetts\, New Jersey\, New Hampshire and New York\, to guard Fort Ticonderoga. \nWhile the declaration itself was signed July 4th\, news of the document and the patriotic sentiment it carried would not reach the Northern Army at Fort Ticonderoga until July 28th. The new fortifications of Rattlesnake Hill were christened Mount Defiance to mark the occasion of the first reading of the Declaration to these soldiers. \nMark your calendar today for the Fort Ticonderoga Independence Day Weekend so you don’t miss this exciting French & Indian War event! \nTags: Fort Ticonderoga Independence Day Weekend\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\, History & Living History Daily Demonstrations

The Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment features battle reenactments including Pickett’s Charge\, living history\, period music\, sutlers\, encampments and more. All reenactment activities are held at a reenactment site outside of the Gettysburg National Miliary Park at 965 Pumping Station Road\, Gettysburg\, PA 17325. \n\nGettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment\nGettysburg Reenactment Visitor Tips\nGeneral Admission Tickets (Required) admit you into the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment site\, all activities and demonstrations for the day. The viewing area that is included in your general admission ticket at no additional charge is ground level and you are permitted to bring a lawn chair\, or stand to watch the battles and field demonstrations. You will be able to see the battles\, but you won’t have the advantage of being elevated\, which helps if there are spectators seated/standing in front of you. You are guaranteed an unobstructed view in the bleachers. Viewing spaces are filled on a first come\, first served basis—arrive early if you intend to set up your chair near the front. \nLocation\nGettysburg Reenactment Field\n965 Pumping Station Road\nGettysburg\, PA 17325\nThe Battles are narrated by Licensed Battlefield Guides. All reenactment activities are held at the Gettysburg Reenactment Field. \nMaps & Directions\nArrive Early – at least 2 hours before battles begin. It is recommended that you arrive early (gates open at 8:30 a.m.) and plan to spend the day. There is plenty to see and do all over the site. Traffic peaks just prior to the battle times and is also heavy after the battles (especially Pickett’s Charge). Try not to make any commitments in town or “off site” immediately following the battles. Anticipate delays and consider staying on site to relax and enjoy the live period music or stroll through the camps\, sutler\, and food areas following the battles. \nBattle of Blountville Civil War Reenactment Mini-Gallery\n\n \nWhat to Wear – Wear and bring sunscreen with you. Be sure to wear light-colored clothing\, hats\, comfortable shoes\, sunglasses and sunscreen. Bring the bottle of sunscreen with you; it wears off after 2 hours. Early August is typically hot and sunny in Gettysburg.\nSun umbrellas may be used right up until the guns can be heard\, marking the start of the reenactment. They must be lowered at that time. \n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”More Visitor Tips”]\nBleacher Seating (Optional) The bleacher seating (additional fee) offers the best view possible for the battles and demonstrations. Bleacher tickets cannot be purchased without a general admission ticket. Seating is first come\, first served. The seating is not shaded. The bleachers will open one hour before each battle and must be vacated after each battle for security\, inspection\, and maintenance—the battles last approximately one hour. The bleacher seating is limited. Order your tickets while there is still seating available. There will be troop movement over the entire field; everyone will see some distant as well as close-up action. Bringing a pair of binoculars will help you see in the distance.Your tickets are good for the entire day. The bleacher seating tickets are for the battles and field demonstrations; your general admission ticket gives you access to all of the other events i.e. the activities tents; the living history village\, etc. Seating is provided inside the activities tents. There are shade tents throughout the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment site. \nVideo/Film equipment may not be used in any of the spectator areas if it requires a tripod or is shoulder held\, such as larger camcorders. ONLY hand-held recorders can be used in spectator areas. No one may stand in front of lawn chair areas for filming and of course\, you may not walk out on the Battlefield at any time to take photos. Umbrellas must be lowered during battles. Interpretation of these guidelines is the exclusive right of the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee (GAC) and its staff. \nYoung children are often afraid of very loud noises and being close to the cannons can be a scary experience for kids under 5 years old. Cotton helps dull the noise and may be a good idea for anyone near the big guns. \nHandicap Parking is available at the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment event site. There are also golf cart shuttles that can transport individuals with mobility issues from the ticket booth to the spectator/seating area. Most event activities are fairly close in proximity. Please be aware the Gettysburg Reenactment takes place on open farm fields and the terrain will be bumpy in some areas. \nStrollers are permitted on the event site but may have a more difficult time maneuvering on this farm ground. Strollers are not permitted in the grandstands; however\, stroller parking is available under the grandstands. The Gettysburg Anniversary Committee and its staff assume no liability for strollers and other personal property left unattended under the grandstands or any other location on the event site. \nBicycles may be ridden to the parking areas\, but not on site. We do not provide security for bicycles and advise against bringing them\, but this is your decision. \nBackpacks\, Coolers & Large Bags – As a safety precaution for all persons attending the event NO backpacks\, cooler or large bags will be permitted through the event gates. Please leave these items at home or in your vehicle so you do not have to return them to your vehicle. We understand that you may need to carry certain personal items–in a small open-type bag with straps usually works best. All carry items including camera cases will be subject to search by security prior to entering the event. Please allow extra time so we can enhance your safety! The organizers of the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment event have the right to refuse entry to any person refusing such an inspection. \nFood & Beverages – There will be a variety of foods and beverages available for purchase at the reenactment site\, such as\, hamburgers\, hot dogs\, pizza\, pulled pork BBQ\, Italian sausage\, pit beef\, pit ham\, French fries\, fresh fruit\, water\, sodas\, lemonade etc.\nNo Pets are allowed on site\, in camps\, or in the parking areas.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nReenactor Rules\nAll reenactors must affiliate with a unit to participate. The command staff will attempt to assign individuals registering without a unit affiliation to units but this does not guarantee acceptance by that unit. It is the individual’s responsibility to affiliate and if no recognized unit is found the individual will not be able to participate. Affiliation means that the unit or individual will be under the control of\, camp with\, be inspected by and fall in for battle with that recognized unit. The event Commanders and organizers will make the final determination if a registration is accepted. \n\nAll safety regulations will be strictly enforced through a provost and/or appropriate safety personnel. Any violation of these rules will be grounds for an individual or unit to be removed from the field.\nAnyone under the age of 13 will not be permitted on the Battlefield. NO EXCPTIONS!\nNo one under the age of 16 will be permitted to carry a rifle on the field.\n\nGettysburg Reenactment Impression Standards\nThe Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment is a very special and significant commemorative event for the reenactment community\, the visitor\, and the Gettysburg community. The eyes of the nation and the world are upon us. In order to promote event integrity and honor\, and to respect your fellow reenactors and provide an accurate portrayal to the public\, the organizers\, and military command request your cooperation by heeding the following authenticity standards:[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read Impression Standard Details”] \n\nAll clothing must accurately represent the fashion and style of 1863\, e.g.\, natural fibers\, period cut and color.\nModern plastic glasses frames are not permitted.\nNo modern shoes and no sneakers.\nNo specialty impressions without the approval of the event sponsors. This includes portrayals of Lee\, Jackson\, Lincoln\, Grant\, Clara Barton\, etc. If you have any doubts\, please ask.\nWomen portraying soldiers in the ranks should make every reasonable effort to hide their gender. Hundreds\, if not thousands\, of women passed themselves off as men in order to serve as soldiers during the war—on both sides\, and we will never know exactly how many did so because their disguises were so good. Honor them. If any Army or event volunteer (as above) determines the female gender at not less than 15 feet\, that individual will be asked to leave the field/ranks.\nHair should be worn as appropriate to 1863.\nAs a compromise to modern safety\, a minimum number of period MILITARY or Hospital Ice Angels (2-3) will be permitted on the battlefield for each authorized battalion. Each Ice Angel must be at least 16 years of age. Proper uniform will be required. Dresses for the ladies will not be allowed on the field.\nDo not wear any uniforms or insignia that would not have appeared at Gettysburg.\nThe classic “campaigner” impression is suitable for this event. Shoes shall be worn! Failure to do so will result in removal from the event.\nA dirty musket is rarely\, if ever\, appropriate and may\, in fact\, constitute a safety violation.\nAll anachronisms (cots\, coolers\, sweat pants\, etc.) must be hidden inside tents at all times. Your camp is not only your reenactment home; but is also a significant living history experience for both your fellow reenactors and visitors.\nTobacco use shall be confined to period products—pipes\, cigars\, snuff\, chew or\, in rare cases\, filter-less cigarettes.\nThe event organizers\, and respective military commanders\, have final authority regarding authenticity issues.\nRead all Reenactor Rules\nSee all registered reenactors\n\n[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nReenactor Registration\nYou can register online\, or download a form and mail your registration in. During the early morning hours of July 7\, 1777\, British General John Burgoyne’s army met the resistance and bravery of Americans for the first time in the Battle of Hubbardton. A massive British invasion from Canada chased the Continental Army from Mount Independence south to Hubbardton. \nThe British strategy was to continue to New York and divide New England from the rest of the colonies. On a grassy hill\, the New Englanders made their stand. While the British held the field and technically won the battle\, their losses were so heavy that they gave up chasing the Americans to tend to their casualties. The Battle of Hubbardton marked the beginning of the end for Burgoyne and his great plan. On August 16 he suffered a stunning blow at the Battle of Bennington. On October 17\, 1777\, after the battles of Saratoga\, he surrendered with his entire Army\, an action that was of great importance in persuading the French to enter the war on the side of the Americans. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Hubbardton Revolutionary War Encampment Weekend at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton\, VT. \nTags: Hubbardton Revolutionary War Encampment Weekend\, Hubbardton Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Vermont Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

Join us to celebrate the mountain men\, legendary explorers\, and Native Americans who opened commerce in the American West. Over the course of the four days of the Green River Rendezvous\, vendors will fill parks with food\, live music\, beer\, entertainment and more to celebrate the mountain men\, legendary explorers\, and Native Americans who opened commerce in the American West. From visits to the Museum of the Mountain Man that bestows Jim Bridger’s rifle to the return of the “Green River Rendezvous” historical re-enactment and nightly rodeos\, cultural events will be in high supply. \n\nGreen River Rendezvous\nGreen River Rendezvous History\nSixteen Rendezvous were held during the years 1824-1840\, the height of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade when the beaver top hat was an essential part of every respectable urban man’s wardrobe. Of those 16 gatherings\, six were located at the Green River Rendezvous site\, eight miles west of Pinedale near Daniel\, Wyoming. It was at this site where famous mountain men like Jim Bridger\, Kit Carson\, Thomas Fitzpatrick carved their legends and opened the way for settlement of the West and supplied lustrous beaver pelts for the fashion industries of Europe and the eastern United States. Trappers\, travelers and Native American Indians all gathered to barter\, sell and gamble away the pelts and skins they’d gathered through the winter from hard\, dangerous labor. Guns\, jewelry\, supplies and other trade goods were also swapped. These original Rendezvous were the best opportunity to lay in supplies for the coming winter\, renew acquaintances\, tell tall tales\, drink\, laugh and get rowdy. \nGreen River Rendezvous Pageant\nSunday\, 1:00 pm at the Pinedale Rodeo Grounds\nThe live\, historical re-enactment has been a Pinedale area tradition since 1936 where community residents relive the original Green River Rendezvous of the 1800s. The rodeo grounds come alive with bearded\, buck skinned trappers and mountain men of long ago as they gallop\, holler\, fight\, boast\, and trade and barter goods. Representatives of coming civilization are also on the scene: Eliza Spaulding and Narcissa Whitman\, the first pioneer women to travel over South Pass\, stroll in once again. \nAmerican Mountain Man & Plains Indian Encampment\nThursday – Sunday at the Museum of the Mountain Man\nActivities\, tours\, and campfire talks on the historical significance of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade provides entertaining and educational Rendezvous events for all ages\, including free living history demonstrations of fur trapper and Plains Indian lifestyles\, field trips\, and children’s activities. \nPrairie of the Mass\nSunday\, 10:00 am at De Smet Monument\, Daniel\, Wyoming\nThe influence of Belgium-born Jesuit missionary\, Father De Smet is realized at morning’s calm to celebrate the first ever Mass on the prairie near the original Rendezvous site on July 5\, 1840 where thousands of Indians\, trappers and fur traders gathered. The De Smet Monument was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 28\, 1970. \nOriginal Green River Rendezvous Site\nTravel four miles north of Pinedale on US Highway 191\, turn left on Green River Road\, enter in at sign on right side of the road\, drive up a bit\, and walk on up. \nBy far\, the site of the 1833\, 1835\, 1836\, 1837\, 1839\, 1840 rendezvous is one of Pinedale’s most commanding scenes and was declared a U.S. National Historical Landmark in 1961. It’s no wonder six of the sixteen Rocky Mountain Rendezvous were located right here in the Upper Green River Valley where Horse Creek meets the Green. \nTrader’s Row\nLocated on the east end of Pine Street/US Highway 191. \n \nBuy and sell goods Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm and Sunday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. It will have lots of rendezvous fun with activities such as the Candy Canon blasting throughout the day\, a bow shoot for all ages\, a frying pan toss\, and a “Tell a Tall Tale” contest. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Green River Rendezvous at the Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale\, Wyoming. \nTags: Green River Rendezvous\, Green River Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Wyoming Rendezvous\, Wyoming Mountain Man Rendezvous \nView other Wyoming Rendezvous

In Dakota language\, the word “Wacipi” literally means “they dance.” Often held over a weekend\, a Powwow is filled with songs and dances\, singers with drums\, and dancers in their regalia. Regalia (pronounced Re gail ya) is the proper term used to describe the highly decorated clothing worn by the powwow dancers. \nThe Prairie Island Summer Pow Wow\, Prairie Island Indian Community and Pow Wow Committee are not responsible for lack of funds. The Prairie Island Summer Pow Wow is a drug and gang free event. All drugs and alcohol are prohibited from Pow Wow grounds. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Prairie Island Summer Pow Wow in July at the Prairie Island Indian Community Wacipi Grounds in Welch\, Minnesota. \nTags: Prairie Island Summer Pow Wow\, Prairie Island Summer Powwow\, Prairie Island Indian Community Wacipi\, Prairie Island Indian Community Pow Wow\, Prairie Island Indian Community Powwow\, Prairie Island Wacipi Celebration\, Minnesota Powwow\, Minnesota Pow Wow \nView Other Minnesota Powwows & Events
