This program is designed to be a learning experience through hands-on and on-site examples of daily living in a time of war\, where the soldier’s hardships of daily life ranged from meal prep\, to travel\, to medical needs\, to battle\, and much more. \nEach group will be assigned a guide to insure movement from exhibit to exhibit. \nReservations: Reservations are required and must be received no later than Monday\, October 29th to insure placement in the tour. Lunch will be offered through a local vendor at an affordable price. \nFlags: Students will learn about the national and battle flags used during the four year conflict. \nMusic: Students will be exposed to period music used to inspire excitement in battle\, as well as\, help forget the loneliness of being away from home and love ones. \nFashion: Female students will learn about period fabrics\, the layers of clothing worn\, and how the ladies of the 1860s dressed. \nMedicine: Students will view and may be asked to participate in a mock treatment of battlefield injuries. They will hear about medicines used and medical treatments that were available. \nPeriod Dancing: Feel and experience the elegance of a Southern Ball and dance the Virginia Reel. \nBlacksmith: Students will watch as the blacksmith forges nails\, horseshoes and any hardware needed to keep the soldiers and their equipment in good working order. \nArtillery: Students will be exposed to cannon loading and firing. There is little to compare for the feel of battle than the sound and smoke of large artillery fire! \nCavalry: Students learn how a soldiers horse was as important to him as his weapons! \nOther exhibits will include: Confederate Soldiers Uniform and Equipment\, Marching & Drilling\, Transportation\, and Sutlers.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nBattles for the Armory Reenactment Mini Gallery\n\n \nSaturday & Sunday Battle Reenactments and More\nThe public is invited to join us Saturday and Sunday for a very family-oriented\, fun-filled\, and educational weekend event you don’t want to miss out on. The Battles for the Armory Reenactment features two re-created local battles: the “Battle of Chehaw Station” and the “Battle of Franklin.” The live portrayal of these Civil War battles are hosted by the 53rd Alabama Cavalry reenactors. Visit with soldiers and support personnel from hundreds of years of North Carolina history. The experiences of veterans of the Revolution\, Civil War\, World Wars and other conflicts will be shared through living history displays and weapons firing demonstrations. \n\nFort Dobbs North Carolina Military Timeline\nIn honour of Veteran’s Day\, the fort hosts its annual Fort Dobbs North Carolina Military Timeline. This free public program is open to any impression related to NC history (i.e. soliders who either came from\, fought in\, or were imprisioned in the State of North Carolina.) The event will feature on-going displays of camp life\, restored military vehicles\, and firing demonstrations. \nSituated in the Piedmont region of North Carolina near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains\, Ft. Dobbs State Historic Site provides a window into the tumultuous period of history known as the French and Indian War (1754-1763) or Seven Years War. As the only state historic site associated with the period\, Fort Dobbs represents North Carolina’s link with a global war for empire that crossed five continents\, lasted nearly a decade and sowed the seeds for independence. \nAdmission: $2.00 (children under 5 free) \nHours: Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \nLocation:\nFort Dobbs State Historic Site\n438 Fort Dobbs Road\nStatesville\, NC 28625 \nDirections: From Interstate 40\, take either US 21 North (exit 151) or NC 115 North (exit. 150). Construction began in late 1755 and was completed one year later. It served as the military headquarters for the frontier company (approximately fifty men) as well as a safe-haven for settlers. The fort was attacked on the night of February 27\, 1760 when more than 70 Cherokees were repelled. The garrison suffered two men wounded\, as well as having one colonial boy killed. The Cherokee were reported to have lost 10-12 men killed and wounded. By the end of 1761\, the British had essentially won the war and only thirty troops remained at the fort. Colonial leaders disbanded the troops and removed all the supplies of the garrison as settlement moved far west of the fort. The neglected fort was in ruins by 1766. \n \nReconstruction of Fort Dobbs\nSoon after protecting the site of Fort Dobbs in 1909\, the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized the need to reconstruct the blockhouse. Following initial archaeological investigations in the 1960’s and ’70’s the site became a State Historic Site\, but with several key questions about the original structure still unanswered\, no immediate reconstruction effort was planned.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nIn 2003\, the reincorporated non-profit Friends of Fort Dobbs took up the vision of then-site manager Beth Hill to begin an effort to rebuild. More than a decade of hard work ensued. The Friends undertook a fundraising campaign to fund the effort and co-operated with State officials\, historians\, historic building specialists\, architects\, and noted archaeologist Dr. Larry Babits to develop feasible\, historically sound plans and the capital needed to make Fort Dobbs stand on the banks of Fourth Creek once again. \nFollowing several other facility improvements to the site\, ground was broken for the new fort in August of 2016. A mix of modern and 18th Century construction techniques have been employed to meet the challenge of building a structure that must simultaneously meet modern building standards while also approximating an entirely hand-build piece of military engineering from 260 years ago. We hope\, with your support\, to have Fort Dobbs open as a living history exhibit on a grand scale by early 2019![/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Dobbs North Carolina Military Timeline in November on Veteran’s Day Weekend at the Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville\, North Carolina. \n \nTags: Fort Dobbs North Carolina Military Timeline\, Fort Dobbs Military Timeline\, Civil War Reenactment\, French & Indian War Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, War of 1812 Reenactment \nView other US Military Timeline Events

But\, there are a few things that first timers should learn to expect. Most instructions will come from the announcer so make sure you’re paying attention. Certain parts of a powwow ask the public to stand for events such as the grand entry\, flag song or honor songs. Some dances\, like intertribals and round dances\, are open to the public and some are not. The announcer will inform the public when they can enter the arena to participate in a dance. Cameras are allowed and welcome\, but occasionally you’ll be asked not to photograph certain events and if you’d like to stop a dancer and take a picture with them\, the proper thing to do is to ask their permission first. \nThe dancer’s outfit is commonly referred to as “regalia” and for Powwow dancers this is a way of life and not a show for the public so respect for their regalia is also key. Please do not touch a dancer’s regalia unless invited. Other than that\, enjoy the music\, dance\, food\, art and celebration that are going on and make sure you have a good time. No worries! Read this Powwow FAQ.”]\nWhat is a Powwow?\nA Powwow is a gathering of men\, women and children from different Native American nations. Friends\, family and new people come together to sing\, dance\, share food\, present their craftwork and socialize. These cultural events preserve Native American traditions and heritage. \nWhat is a Veteran’s Powwow?\nThe respect shown to veterans is an integral part of the Native American culture. Native Americans have a rich history in the United States Military. The veterans of today are shown the same honor and respect as the warriors of times past. At Veterans Powwows\, Native and non-Native veterans alike are especially venerated for their service. \nI’m not Native American\, are Powwows for me?\nYes! Powwows are at their core family and community events and we want to share our culture and traditions with you! \nWhy are there Head Judges?\nPowwows added dance competitions as part of the celebration which began decades ago; where exceptional dancers were recognized with “prizes” like blankets and quilts. This tradition evolved to awarding money as the prize and has since become part of the celebration. Modern day Powwows like our Veteran’s Powwow invite dancers to come and celebrate\, but also to have the chance to showcase their skills and compete against one another which adds to the excitement of the event. Head judges are respected dancers hired by the Powwow committee to oversee the dance competition and insure fair judging of the dancers. \nWhat is an Arena Director?\nThe Arena Director is the individual responsible for keeping track of the singers\, dancers and dance competitions and any other live events happening during the Powwow. The Arena Director works with the announcer to keep the Powwow organized and well-coordinated. \nWhat is the Grand Entry?\nEach powwow begins with a Grand Entry or procession of dancers serving as the “bringing together of tribes.” Dancers enter the dance circle by age and style of regalia. They are guided by two lead dancers\, a male and a female\, who follow the presentation of flags. Similar to the National Anthem\, the Flag Song is the Native American way of honoring traditional native\, state\, and American flags. The audience is expected to stand during this time.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Mashantucket Pequot Honoring The Veterans Powwow at the Mashantucket Pequot Museum on Saturcay\, Veterans Day Weekend in Mashantucket\, Connecticut. \nTags: Mashantucket Pequot Honoring The Veterans Powwow\, Mashantucket Pequot Museum Mashantucket Pequot Honoring The Veterans Powwow\, Honoring The Veterans Pow wow\, Mashantucket Pequot Museum Honoring The Veterans Pow wow\, Connecticut Powwow\, Connecticut Pow Wow \nView other Connecticut Pow Wows

The fort was reconstructed during the Great Depression and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. \nThe Fort Loudoun State Historic Park features a visitor center/museum\, reconstructed Fort Loudoun\, and stabilized ruins of Tellico Blockhouse (1794-1807). Fort Loudoun was constructed by the British Colony of South Carolina to ally the Overhill Cherokee Nation in the fight against the French and to guarantee that trade would continue between the Cherokee and South Carolina. \nBut relations between South Carolina and the Cherokee Nation broke down and the Cherokee captured Fort Loudoun and its garrison. It is thought that the Cherokees destroyed the fort shortly thereafter. The blockhouse served as a gateway (with passes required) into Cherokee land\, a trading post\, and a factory to teach new skills to the Cherokees. \nPicnic tables\, fishing pier\, hiking trails and boat dock are available. Boat launching ramps are available off site. The Historic Area hosts many seasonal events\, such as Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekends with reenactors\, an 18th Century Trade Faire\, and student field trips. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekend at Fort Loudoun State Park in Vonore\, Tennessee. \nTags: Fall Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekend\, French & Indian War Reenactment\, Fort Loudoun King George II Birthday Garrison Weekend \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

For the true Sutlers out there\, Liendo draws many reenactors every year and makes an ideal place to set up shop and sell reenacting gear and souvenirs. Our Sutler spaces have flexible sizing but pre-registration is necessary for proper space planning. All Sutlers must maintain a period correct appearance throughout the event. Sutler Application \nThe Food Court\nLike any full day event\, Civil War Weekend has its fair share of hungry spectators. We have set up a dedicated “food court” area to provide those spectators with a nice selection of foods and a place to stop and rest. Food vendor spaces are limited and duplication is restricted so get your applications in early to receive a space. Spaces are 10X20 and include electricity. Food Vendor Application \nModern Vendors\nOur modern vendor area is for crafts\, souvenirs\, books\, gifts and much more! This area is set up directly across from the food court and before entering the immersion area of the event. 15X15 spaces\, both with or without electricity are available. Modern Vendor Application \nVendor Details\nCivil War Weekend will provide space only. Exhibitors/Vendors are required to provide their own tents\, displays\, tables\, chairs\, etc… Rental of a booth space is per weekend and cost will vary depending on size and requested amenities. Electricity and water access are available\, but limited\, so early application is important for vendors who require these amenities.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Liendo Plantation Civil War Weekend in Hempstead\, Texas. \nTags: Liendo Plantation Civil War Weekend\, Liendo Battle Reenactment\, Civil War Weekend atLiendo Plantation\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

All items for sale are typical of items available in the 18th century. The Fort opens at 9:00 am each day. There is no admission charge for this event. \n\nWinter Trade Days at Fort Boonesboro\nWinter Trade Days at Fort Boonesborough\, like other events at the fort\, are sponsored by The Fort Boonesborough Foundation. The Foundation is made up of a group of dedicated individuals who volunteer their time to sustain\, foster\, and promote quality programming at Fort Boonesborough State Park and Boone’s Station Historic Site. \nAbout Fort Boonesborough\nRichard Henderson\, founder of the Transylvania Company in 1775\, chose Daniel Boone to head a party of 31 axe men to clear a path through the Cumberland Gap that would run from Long Island of the Holston River\, Tennessee\, to Otter Creek of the Kentucky River. Blazing the trail presented extraordinary difficulties – the route through the wilderness was a hunter’s trace that was too narrow for a wagon.  The task was to combine many trails into one continuous route by clearing underbrush and overhanging foliage. When Daniel Boone and his men reached the Kentucky River on April 1\, 1775\, they quickly moved to establish Kentucky?s second settlement–the site still known as Fort Boonesboroughugh. \nLocation\nFort Boonesborough State Park\n4375 Boonesborough Rd.\nRichmond\, Ky. 40475 \nFor more information about Winter Trade Days at Fort Boonesboro: Phone 859-527-3131 ext 216 or email Fort Manager bill.farmer@ky.gov \n \nMark your calendar so you don’t miss the next Winter Trade Days at Fort Boonesborough at Fort Boonesboroughugh State Park in Richmond\, Kentucky in November. \nTags: Winter Trade Days at Fort Boonesboro\, Winter Trade Days\, 18th Century Market Fair\, Colonial Trade Fair \nView other Market Fair & Trade Fair Events

Each Year\, tribal members gather on this original Creek tribal land for the annual Poarch Creek Indian Thanksgiving Pow Wow. Competition dancing in four age categories\, each with a male and female division\, is also a large part of the Pow Wow. \nWatch the crowning of the Poarch Creek Indian Princesses and shop from numerous booths for crafts\, quilts\, and other keepsakes. Community churches join in the festivities by providing traditional turkey and dressing dinners\, ham and fried chicken plates. Other choices abound for smaller appetites. \nWhat was originally held as a homecoming for tribal members in 1971 has blossomed into today’s Poarch Creek Indian Thanksgiving Pow Wow tradition for not only the 20 or so tribal nations represented during the annual dance competition\, but also for Alabama residents who come for the roasted corn on the cob\, Buffalo burgers\, merchant tents and family-friendly fun. \nPoarch Creek Indian Thanksgiving Pow Wow Mini-Gallery\n \nOver 10\,000 people are expected to attend Thursday’s activities.
