Almost every native community in this part of the North America has a gathering once a year which is known by most as pow wow. This is a time when we come together to dance and to sing. It is a social event practiced by the Anishinaabe people. Sometimes dancers and singers travel for many days to attend Jiingtamok. Sometimes this is the only time that some families and friends see one another. We really do not know how old this celebration is\, but we look forward to it every year at the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow. \n\nLittle River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow | LBROI Jiingtamok\nToday\, we have two types of Jiingtamok (powwows)\, one is the traditional and the other is the competition. Traditional Jiingtamok is the oldest form and competition is relatively new. Competition is where dancers and singers compete with one another for prize money. Some dancers and singers have made this lifestyle a career because they are excellent at what they do and take great pride in it. Many styles of dancing and singing are shared at both types of gatherings.\nPublic Welcome – Free Admission \nGrand Entries\nSaturday at 12:00 & 7:00\nSunday 12:00 \nHead Staff\nHost Drum: Dusty Bear\nCo-Host: Suthern Straight\nInvited Drums: Painted Rock\, Red Cedar\, War Party\nHead Veteran: Frank Lewis\nMC: Shannon Martin & Brian Loney\nArena Director: Mike Medawls\nSpecial Judge: Walker Stonefish\nPrincess Judge: Cicilee Chivls\nFirst 3 Show-Up Drums to Register ONSITE will receive an honorarium. No Alcohol\, Drugs or Pets \nOn-site Camping\, some electricity hookups available\, bathrooms with showers. Call ahead to reserve a room or spot at the RV Park at the Little River Casino Resort Toll Free at 1-888-568-2244\, located across the street from the Pow Wow Grounds (Sorry No Pow Wow Rate Available) \nLittle River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow Location\nLRBOI Gathering Grounds\n2596 Loon Drive\nManistee\, MI 49660\nBehind Tribal Gas Station \nFor More Information:\nVendor Info: 231-398-6893\nCamping: Contact Tribal Police\nOther Info: Phil Memberto 315-925-9545 \nKeepint Jiingtamok Alive:\nThe celebration of Jiingtamok was almost lost at one time because European religions and residential schools discouraged many native people from practicing what they had been doing from the beginning. Now this tradition is a vital part of our culture again and is welcomed by many nations in North America. \n \nWe have faith in our children that they will never allow what has happened in the past to happen again. If we continue to teach our children our ways and our language\, we can never loose it. If we take the time to show and practice our ways and our language with our children\, they will in turn take the time in their lives to do the same. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Annual Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow (Jiingtamok in Manistee\, Michigan. \nTags: Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow\, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Powwow\, LRBOI Powwow\, LRBOI Pow Wow\, Michigan Powwow\, Michigan Pow Wow \nView Other Michigan Pow Wows

The Pacific Primitive Rendezvous is an historic reenactment of a rendezvous of the fur trade era. We try for authenticity in all aspects of the event. This is a pre-1840 family friendly primitive Rendezvous and open to registered participants only. This event gives people the opportunity to attend a quality PRIMITIVE event which hosts a variety of shooting\, archery and hawk & knife competitions\, a plethora of seminars and kid games. This event is not intended to appeal to everyone\, it is intended to appeal to the PRIMITIVE BUCKSKINNERS. It is hoped that it will be CHALLENGING EVEN TO THEM! Arrive in Primitive dress. \nPacific Primitive Rendezvous Mini-Gallery\n\n \nThis year PPR is being held on the land of Jack and Teresa Southworth. These gracious and generous landowners have hosted PPR’s in past years and are excited about 2019. In the spirit of Rendezvous\, we intend to occupy a different portion of their property and discover new camp sites and shooting ranges. We have a great staff ready to host a fun-filled and challenging event as we step back in time. I will post additional information as we go forward so that you can familiarize yourselves with camp and trade rules as well as highlights of all the other activities we have planned. \nGate rules: Primitive Dress Required\nEveryone must be in primitive dress coming in to camp and going out. This is a primitive camp\, but anyone is welcome. There are rules and period correct clothing (pre 1840 and no further back then 1700) is required.
