Most of these ceremonies were kept private\, like the feasts and fasting until a visiting Elder\, Sylvestre YoungChief told the group to start sharing with the community and reaching out. \nIn 2002 through a grant for homelessness\, Nin Os Kom Tin ran an outreach project to determine community needs. They also began in 2005 to hold an Annual Aboriginal Day Celebration in Fairy Lake Park\, Newmarket. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Nin Os Kom Tin Aboriginal Celebration in June at Fairy Lake in Newmarket\, Ontario\, Canada. \nTags: Nin Os Kom Tin Aboriginal Celebration\, Nin Os Kom Tin Pow Wow\, Nin Os Kom Tin Celebration\, Nin Os Kom Tin Powwow\, Canada Pow Wow\, Canada Powwow\, Ontario Pow Wow\, Ontario Powwow \nView other Canada Powwows

Come celebrate First Nations culture with us. Experience the sight and sounds of the Listuguj Powwow\, the drumming\, singing\, dancing\, craft vendors and native food. A lot of people plan their vacations around the Powwow\, and new people people discover it every year. At the Listuguj Powwow in 2016\, over 500 people were fed moose\, salmon and fiddleheads on Saturday alone. Being able to feed everyone is their way of thanking those who come and support the community in general\, and the Listuguj Powwow in particular. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sf5_Oh_lt8&width=650&height=400&[/embedyt] \nListuguj Powwow\nThe whole weekend runs on volunteers. Whether it’s in the weeks and months leading up to it\, or those filling all the small\, but demanding jobs. Everything from making coffee to directing traffic needs someone giving up their time. Keeping people hydrated alone requires over 170 cases of water\, which had to be requested — and donated — from local businesses. The Powwow belongs to the community\, and has been successful because people have stepped forward each year and offered their help. The name eventually changed to “The Piikani Nation Annual Celebration”. Most reserves in Canada now have this type celebration. \nThe current dance arbour was first used in 2013. Not only the bleachers being able to hold hundreds of people\, but also the floor where people could place their own chairs\, having this state of the art arbour was a highlight of that year’s celebrations. \nGrand Entries\nFriday 7:00 p.m.\nSaturday 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.\nSunday 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.\nRegistration Opens Friday 3:00 p.m. \nPowwow Head Staff\nPowwow Chair: To Be Announced\nMaster of Ceremonies: To Be Announced\nArena Directo: : To Be Announced\nTabulation: C&T Tabulating \nDance & Drum Contests \nDrum Payout: First 4 Places\nDrum Split for non-placing Hand Drum Contet: 1 Entry per Group \nDance Contests: Prize Money for first 3 places\nJunior Adults 18-39\nSenior Adults 40-59\nGolden Age 60+ and Buckskin\nTeens 13-17\nTiny Tots: To be paid daily\nSpecials: To Be Announced \n \nCamping\nCamping & shower facilities on site with 24-hour security. \nLocation\nPiikani Nation Arbor\nCrowlodge Park\nBrocket T0K 0H0\, Alberta\, Canada\nGeo Location: 49.540020\, -113.757430\nDriving Map Link to Dance Arbor \nFor More Information: 403.965.2985 ptks@piikanination.com \nAbout the Piikani Nation\nThe Piikani First Nation is a small reserve in the corner of southern Alberta. The Piikani Nation is no exception\, in addition to the music\, dancing and hand games\, and parade\, the Piikani Nation Powwow includes a rodeo with barrel racing\, steer riding and breakaway roping. \nTraditional Dancing\nEach dance requires special regalia. With bells on their dresses\, these three are heading to perform the women’s jingle dress dance. All age groups participate in specific dances\, including the fancy\, traditional\, jingle dress\, old style chicken and grass dances. \nTeepee Camp\nDon’t expect a forest of teepees (tipis). Many visitors opt for trailers or hotel rooms. But a few traditional tents make up the scene with staple southern Alberta wind turbines towering in the background. \nPowwow Attire\nThe dancers’ outfits\, decorated with bones\, bells or feathers\, have intricate designs. The beautiful handcrafted items can take years to make. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Piikani Nation Powwow and Celebration at Crowlodge Park in Brocket\, Alberta\, Canada. \nTags: Piikani Nation Powwow and Celebration\, Piikani Nation Pow Wow and Celebration\, Piikani Nation Powwow\, Piikani Nation Pow Wow\, Canada Powwows\, Canada Pow Wows\, Piikani Powwow\, PiikNi Pow Wow \nView other Canada Powwows

The musicians are attired in the regimental uniform of Col. Charles Webb’s 19th Connecticut Regiment of Foot in which unit Capt. Nathan Hale served in 1776. Their commitment to authenticity has resulted in their having won the coveted recognition from the Company of Military Historians. Several of the muskets carried by the Rangers are actual Brown Bess Tower Muskets\, not reproductions! \nAbout the Nathan Hale Homestead \nThe Nathan Hale Homestead is the birthplace of Connecticut’s State Hero\, Nathan Hale\, who was hanged as a spy during the Revolutionary War. The house\, built in 1776\, belonged to Nathan’s parents and family\, and is located on the only site he ever called home. Its furnishings include several Hale family possessions and other collections amassed by Connecticut lawyer and philanthropist George Dudley Seymour\, who purchased the Homestead in 1914 and began a program of restoration that is largely preserved today. The Hale Homestead is situated on 17 acres\, adjoining the 1500-acre Nathan Hale State Forest\, lending to the site’s substantial rural character. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Hale at the Homestead Revolutionary War Encampment & Musical Muster in Coventry\, Connecticut. \nTags: Hale at the Homestead Revolutionary War Encampment & Musical Muster\, Hale at the Homestead Colonial Encampment and Muster\, Nathan Hale Ancient Fife and Drums\, Hale Ancient Fife and Drums Fife and Drum Muster\, Hale Ancient Fife and Drums Encampment Weekend \nView other Musters & Encampmenets

Limit 2-8 people per vehicle.\n$2.00* Pedestrians\, bicyclists\, extra passengers\, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass.\n$4.00* Single-occupant vehicle or motorcycle.\n* Plus $.50 per person Monroe County Surcharge. \nHistory of Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park\nSpanish explorers first surveyed the island of Key West in 1513. After the Florida territory was transferred to the U.S.\, the Navy established a small depot here in 1822 to rid the area of pirates. Fishing\, salvaging wrecked ships and cigar manufacturing became the driving economic forces behind the island’s growth making Key West the richest city in Florida in the 1890s. The U.S. Army began construction of Fort Taylor\, named for President Zachary Taylor\, in 1845. With secession and the beginning of war in 1861\, Fort Taylor remained under federal control — one of only three fortresses in Florida to do so — and served as the headquarters for the Federal Navy’s East Gulf Coast Blockading Squadron staying on ‘active duty’ status through 1947. Today\, the fort is a National Historic Landmark containing the largest cache of Civil War-era seacoast cannons in the U.S. \nCannon and Arches\nUnion troops took control of Fort Zachary Taylor early in the Civil War and maintained it through the duration of the war. They made use of the fort’s impressive artillery\, including 10-inch Rodman and Columbiad cannons to detain blockade-running ships seeking to supply the Confederacy. In 1968\, a large supply of Civil War-era guns and ammunition were discovered in the Fort’s buried arsenal. In fact\, Fort Zachary Taylor held the largest collection of Civil War-era cannons in the United States. \nFort Moat\nSoon after the park opened to the public\, a contractor began the process of digging a moat around the fortress. There were two reasons for the project. One was to prevent easy entry into the structure. The other was to give the illusion of the fort in its early days\, surrounded by water. The end result was an attractive division between the fort and the beach and sea beyond. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Taylor Living History Weekend on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month from March to September at Historic Fort Taylor in Key West\, FL. \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

Join our re-enactors as they set up tents\, clean their weapons and fire up the blacksmith shop. Climb the circular stairways and experience the harbor view just as the soldiers did in 1861. Walk down our cannon row and touch the actual cannons used to protect this Union stronghold. Tours will be available and public interaction is strongly recommended. Re-enactor participation varies by weekend and weather conditions. \nApril to September\nFrom April to September\, on the third weekend (Saturday and Sunday) of each of those months\, Fort Taylor Living History Weekend offers you the opportunity to experience life in the fort as it was during the Civil War. \nLocation\nFort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park\n601 Howard England Way\nKey West\, FL 33040 \nMore Information: Kevin Bowes\, kevin.bowes@dep.state.fl.us (305) 292-6850 \nThe park is open from 8:00 a.m. until sundown\, 365 days a year. The fort closes at 5:00 p.m. \nAdmission Fees:\n$6.00* per vehicle.

The Neshaminy Civil War Reenactment is the largest Civil War re-enactment on the East Coast outside of Gettysburg and is coordinated by the Neshaminy Living History Association. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr5teDlpzOM&width=650&height=400[/embedyt] \nNeshaminy Civil War Reenactment\nThe 28th Regiment\, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry\, the First Legion\, Provisional Army of the Confederate States\, the Historical Society of Bensalem Township\, the GAR Museum and Library\, the Delaware Valley Civil War Round Table along with the Neshaminy State Park sponsor the Civil War living history weekend focused on an actual Civil War battle. \nThe event will be held on the grounds of Neshaminy State Park\, Bensalem Pennsylvania. The park is conveniently located near both Interstate 95 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The state park lies at the confluence of the Neshaminy Creek and the Delaware River. Within its grounds was once located Dunks Ferry\, a site of Revolutionary War activity. Nearby sites of interest to military historians include Civil War campsites\, hospitals\, memorials and military grave sites and Fort Mifflin. \nEach year\, an historical battle of action of Civil War history is selected by the Committee to recreate as faithfully and authentically as possible. The action of battle should involve local troops from Philadelphia and environs to portray. The time period and terrain should be presented as well as can be done. We also try and present smaller sections of a larger action on the Brigade level\, where the numbers engaged are actually accurate to the recreation. The tactics\, uniforms\, weapons and ceremonies are all authentic to the Action selected. The result of this ambitious historical military program includes the recreation of Union and Confederate military camps along with civilian camps\, two public battles and a re-enactor only tactical event. \nWhile admission is free\, a voluntary collection will be taken each day of the re-enactment and all proceeds will go toward historical preservation efforts. \nPublic Welcom – Free Admission \nHours: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. rain or shine. \nVisitor’s Schedule (Saturday & Sunday\, subject to change)\nSaturday\n9:00 a.m. Camps and attractions open to public. DESCRIPTION:2018 Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nDon’t miss the 18th Annual Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment on March 17-18\, 2018 at the Hitch Ranch in Moorpark\, California\, the largest battle reenactment on the West Coast. Hundreds of Reenactors and thousands of spectators come from all over the state and nation each year for this spectacular event. Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment activities include four battle reenactments (with cannon and musket fire)\, Abraham Lincoln delivering the Gettysburg Address\, solider and civilian encampments\, Confederate army surrendering to the Union army and period dancing and music. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aQySI8mSF0&width=650&height=400&[/embedyt] \nCentury Market Fair at Locust Grove\nThe featured battles vary each year\, but are always torn from the pages of history. Much time is spent in planning its reenactment for the time and space available. The Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment is presented by the Rotary Club of Moorpark\, and is designed to educate the public about the historical significance of the Civil War and its effect on the United States including the abolishment of slavery. There will also be historic dancing and music playing near the food court. \nThe Encampment\nUnion and Confederate encampments can be visited where various demonstrations occur\, such as blacksmithing\, doctor’s tent\, the chapel\, the use of arms and cooking on an open fire\, etc. The soldiers are in authentic costumes and stay in character as they converse with the public\, transporting them back to the 1860s. The Civilian Camp is right alongside the soldier’s camps. Demonstrations here include many skills needed for day-to-day life in that period\, such as sewing\, weaving\, cooking\, etc. \nSutlers\nSutlers are civilian merchants who sell provisions to an army in the field\, in camp\, or in quarters. Sutlers sold wares from the back of a wagon or a temporary tent\, traveling with an army or to remote military outposts. At the Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment\, they will be selling reenacting supplies and uniforms\, shoes\, leather goods\, weapons\, (non-firing\, non-functional)\, and other related items. \nHours: Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. \nAdmission: \nSave money and purchase your tickets online.\nThis year we are offering New Family and VIP Packages AND Coupon Specials. Teachers – Get in the Zone:\nBring American History to Life! To get students to fully appreciate what it was like during the American Civil War\, there is no better way to share those impressions than to take them to a quality Civil War Reenactment\, or encourage them to attend and gather information that they can submit for extra class credit.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nOver the past several years\, we have had a number of educators call and arrange for a group discount in order to take their American History class to our event on Saturday or Sunday. When you see the smiles on their faces and the enthusiasm of the students while they’re learning about events during the War\, you realize what a wonderful educational experience it is for them. They get to see first-hand what a typical Civil War encampment looks like\, the surgeon’s tent\, the soldier’s clothing\, their guns and ammunition\, canons firing\, the thrill of talking to Abraham Lincoln and General Lee\, a typical soldier’s mess\, and they’ll be able to talk to re-enactors\, in full costume and in character. All of this will bring the experience to life for the students. \nIf you haven’t planned a field trip for your history class\, we encourage you to consider our event. There is no better history lesson for your students than to expose them to the look and feel of our American Civil War and the extreme sacrifices that so many made in our Country for the freedoms that we enjoy today as a free Nation. \nOur event committee has approved a special Group Rate. See Group Reservations (20 or more) in the Contact section of this website. Go to “Group Reservations” for more information on ordering your tickets today. \nThere is ample food service\, reasonably priced at our event in our food court along with tables and chairs for keeping your group together. \nOn our website\, you will find several photos that will show you what our event looks like and what your students can expect to see in the encampment. Your students can see both North and South encampments. We expect to have over 700 re-enactors and their families in costume along with a large contingent of Civil War Sutlers\, that were the merchants of that era that followed the encampments. \nWe have also posted a Civil War Questionnaire that your students can complete by gathering information at the event. They have to do interviews\, in many cases\, to gather the information\, so it’s a live learning experience. \nFinally\, you will find links above to two short VIDEO clips\, that we produced\, called Gettysburg. Please click on the links and take a look. They are quality pieces of Abraham Lincoln reciting the Gettysburg address interspersed with battle scenes of past year’s events. It’s quite moving and I would encourage you to play it for your American History class. The other video is quite good too. \nThis event is all about teaching our younger generation of the sacrifices that were made by so many during our American Civil War. And there is no better way to communicate that than by scheduling a field trip to our event and letting us host you and your class to a wonderful learning experience. \nPlease go to Contacts / Group Reservations for more information.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nLocation\nHitch Ranch\n100 West High Street\nMoorpark\, CA 93020\nAccess the Blue and The Gray Civil War Reenactment site at the West end of High street directly opposite the entrance to Moorpark’s Post Office.
