Join us to celebrate the mountain men\, legendary explorers\, and Native Americans who opened commerce in the American West. Over the course of the four days of the Green River Rendezvous\, vendors will fill parks with food\, live music\, beer\, entertainment and more to celebrate the mountain men\, legendary explorers\, and Native Americans who opened commerce in the American West. From visits to the Museum of the Mountain Man that bestows Jim Bridger’s rifle to the return of the “Green River Rendezvous” historical re-enactment and nightly rodeos\, cultural events will be in high supply. \n\nGreen River Rendezvous\nGreen River Rendezvous History\nSixteen Rendezvous were held during the years 1824-1840\, the height of the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade when the beaver top hat was an essential part of every respectable urban man’s wardrobe. Of those 16 gatherings\, six were located at the Green River Rendezvous site\, eight miles west of Pinedale near Daniel\, Wyoming. It was at this site where famous mountain men like Jim Bridger\, Kit Carson\, Thomas Fitzpatrick carved their legends and opened the way for settlement of the West and supplied lustrous beaver pelts for the fashion industries of Europe and the eastern United States. Trappers\, travelers and Native American Indians all gathered to barter\, sell and gamble away the pelts and skins they’d gathered through the winter from hard\, dangerous labor. Guns\, jewelry\, supplies and other trade goods were also swapped. These original Rendezvous were the best opportunity to lay in supplies for the coming winter\, renew acquaintances\, tell tall tales\, drink\, laugh and get rowdy. \nGreen River Rendezvous Pageant\nSunday\, 1:00 pm at the Pinedale Rodeo Grounds\nThe live\, historical re-enactment has been a Pinedale area tradition since 1936 where community residents relive the original Green River Rendezvous of the 1800s. The rodeo grounds come alive with bearded\, buck skinned trappers and mountain men of long ago as they gallop\, holler\, fight\, boast\, and trade and barter goods. During the early morning hours of July 7\, 1777\, British General John Burgoyne’s army met the resistance and bravery of Americans for the first time in the Battle of Hubbardton. A massive British invasion from Canada chased the Continental Army from Mount Independence south to Hubbardton. \nThe British strategy was to continue to New York and divide New England from the rest of the colonies. On a grassy hill\, the New Englanders made their stand. While the British held the field and technically won the battle\, their losses were so heavy that they gave up chasing the Americans to tend to their casualties. The Battle of Hubbardton marked the beginning of the end for Burgoyne and his great plan. On August 16 he suffered a stunning blow at the Battle of Bennington. On October 17\, 1777\, after the battles of Saratoga\, he surrendered with his entire Army\, an action that was of great importance in persuading the French to enter the war on the side of the Americans. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Hubbardton Revolutionary War Encampment Weekend at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton\, VT. \nTags: Hubbardton Revolutionary War Encampment Weekend\, Hubbardton Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Vermont Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

After the Revolutionary War\, most Mohawks were forced to leave the Mohawk Valley in order to find refuge in other places. A few of them carried with them a prophecy that told of someday returning to their traditional homeland. That prophecy was passed down through the oral tradition from generation to generation until 1993 when a group of Mohawks left Akwesasne (St. Regis Mohawk Reservation) and returned to their ancestral home in the Mohawk Valley. They purchased a farm at auction and began the work of renovating buildings\, planting gardens\, and opening a native craft store. The community of Kanatsiohareke is working to revitalize the language\, culture\, and spirituality of the Mohawk by offering language classes\, workshops\, conferences\, and cultural exchange programs with many colleges and community groups. The community and this event are drug and alcohol-free. \nKanatsiohareke today is a small Mohawk/Kanienkahaka community on the north bank of the Mohawk River\, west of Fonda\, New York. The name means “The clean pots” Kanatsiohareke was created to be a “Carlisle Indian Boarding School in Reverse”\, teaching Mohawk language and culture. Located at the ancient homeland of the Kanienkehaka (Mohawk)\, it was re-established in September 1993 under the leadership of Thomas R. Porter (Sakokwenionkwas-“The One Who Wins”). The community must raise their own revenue and frequently hold cultural presentations\, workshops\, and academic events\, including an annual Strawberry Festival. A craft shop on site features genuine handmade Native crafts from all over Turtle Island (North America). \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Kanatsiohareke Mohawk Strawberry Festival the last weekend of June at the Kanatsiohareke Mohawk Community in Fonda\, New York. \n \nTags: Kanatsiohareke Mohawk Strawberry Festival\, Kanatsiohareke Strawberry Festival\, Mohawk Strawberry Festival \nView Other Powwows & Native American Events in New York

Almost every native community in this part of the North America has a gathering once a year which is known by most as pow wow. This is a time when we come together to dance and to sing. It is a social event practiced by the Anishinaabe people. Sometimes dancers and singers travel for many days to attend Jiingtamok. Sometimes this is the only time that some families and friends see one another. We really do not know how old this celebration is\, but we look forward to it every year at the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow. \n\nLittle River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow | LBROI Jiingtamok\nToday\, we have two types of Jiingtamok (powwows)\, one is the traditional and the other is the competition. Traditional Jiingtamok is the oldest form and competition is relatively new. Competition is where dancers and singers compete with one another for prize money. Some dancers and singers have made this lifestyle a career because they are excellent at what they do and take great pride in it. Many styles of dancing and singing are shared at both types of gatherings.\nPublic Welcome – Free Admission \nGrand Entries\nSaturday at 12:00 & 7:00\nSunday 12:00 \nHead Staff\nHost Drum: Dusty Bear\nCo-Host: Suthern Straight\nInvited Drums: Painted Rock\, Red Cedar\, War Party\nHead Veteran: Frank Lewis\nMC: Shannon Martin & Brian Loney\nArena Director: Mike Medawls\nSpecial Judge: Walker Stonefish\nPrincess Judge: Cicilee Chivls\nFirst 3 Show-Up Drums to Register ONSITE will receive an honorarium. Now this tradition is a vital part of our culture again and is welcomed by many nations in North America. \n \nWe have faith in our children that they will never allow what has happened in the past to happen again. If we continue to teach our children our ways and our language\, we can never loose it. If we take the time to show and practice our ways and our language with our children\, they will in turn take the time in their lives to do the same. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Annual Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow (Jiingtamok in Manistee\, Michigan. \nTags: Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Pow Wow\, Little River Band of Ottawa Indians Powwow\, LRBOI Powwow\, LRBOI Pow Wow\, Michigan Powwow\, Michigan Pow Wow \nView Other Michigan Pow Wows

All re-enactors from the French & Indian War through the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade are welcome. \n\nMille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous\nSince 1993\, the Mille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous has been held in late June in a rolling field in the woods south of Mille Lacs Lake. The event produces a bloom of white canvas in the form of tents in the style of 200 years ago. The rendezvous has become a highly regarded living history event within Minnesota. It’s a regular destination for up to 150 living history participants living in a frontier city of 55 to 75 primitive camps\, and for many\, a yearly reunion. \nA big part of the experience is the camaraderie among the re-enactors\, known as voyageurs and buckskinners\, while the other is the passion of demonstrating skills and crafts of 200 years ago to kids of all ages. The fur trade era is well connected to the Mille Lacs area\, and there were multiple trading posts\, trails and portages present. And both Aitkin and Morrison Counties were named after fur traders. \nThe Rendezvous Camp is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.\, with a donation needed for entry by those over 10 years old. The location is six miles south of Isle or 16 miles north of Ogilvie on Hwy. 47\, then one mile west on Red Road. \nThe sights\, sounds and smells of 200 years ago come alive once again\, with the opportunity to bring home some Americana of the time that the participants make and sell. There will be food\, blacksmiths\, woodcarvers\, woodworkers\, ropemakers\, music\, a storyteller and surprises. It’s never known just who might show up. The event kicks off with a 21-gun national salute at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Impromptu skills demonstrations and music are ongoing throughout the event by many artisans and primitive campers. \nThis event has been presented each year since 1993 by the Mille Lacs Lake Historical society of Isle\, Minnesota. It originally was planned to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the organization\, and became an annual event. \nHours\n9am-6 pm Saturday and 9am-4pm on Sunday \nPublic Admission:\n$8.00 at gate\nFREE to those 10 & under\n9:00 – 6:00 Saturday / 9:00 – 4:00 Sunday\nPrimitive Camping: $30.00 per site \nFolk Arts Site:\n$30.00 (10’ x 10’ space) \nNon-Primitive Tent & R.V. At the Fort Dobbs Militia Muster\, living history interpreters will recreate an 18th century militia muster during a free event at the Fort Dobbs Historic Site. The presentation on Saturday and Sunday will feature musket firing\, cooking and other parts of military camp life. Visitors will be invited to join the ranks and learn marching drills each afternoon. \n\nFort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment\nMilitary training was part of life for the citizen soldiers\, and the muster re-enactment will portray residents of “Fourth Creek Settlement\,” as Statesville then was known. All males ages 16-60 were required by law to serve in North Carolina’s militia during the French and Indian War. These civilians would gather at appointed times during the year to practice military drill and could be used to quickly form an army for defense at times of invasion. Historic interpreters representing the Rowan County militia will offer on-going displays of military camp life\, as well as featured musket and cannon firing demonstrations. \nFort Dobbs preserves and interprets the history of the fort and North Carolina’s role in the French and Indian War. It is the only state historic site associated with the war\, which lasted from 1754 to 1763. \nAdmission: $2.00 ($2.00 donation suggested) \nHours:\nSaturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.\nSunday 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \nReenactors: Anyone wishing to participate in the Fort Dobbs War for Empire Reenactment needs to register. Reenactor Registration Form \nLocation:\nFort Dobbs State Historic Site\n438 Fort Dobbs Road\nStatesville\, NC 28625 \nDirections: From Interstate 40\, take either US 21 North (exit 151) or NC 115 North (exit. 150). From US 21\, turn left onto Fort Dobbs Road. From NC 115\, veer right onto S. Chipley Ford Road\, then turn right onto Fort Dobbs Road. \nFor More Information: Call 704-873-5882; Email: info@fortdobbs.org \n \nHistory of Fort Dobbs\nFort Dobbs was the only permanent frontier provincial fort in the colony of North Carolina. Construction began in late 1755 and was completed one year later. It served as the military headquarters for the frontier company (approximately fifty men) as well as a safe-haven for settlers. The fort was attacked on the night of February 27\, 1760 when more than 70 Cherokees were repelled. The garrison suffered two men wounded\, as well as having one colonial boy killed. The Cherokee were reported to have lost 10-12 men killed and wounded. By the end of 1761\, the British had essentially won the war and only thirty troops remained at the fort. Colonial leaders disbanded the troops and removed all the supplies of the garrison as settlement moved far west of the fort. The neglected fort was in ruins by 1766. \nReconstruction of Fort Dobbs\nSoon after protecting the site of Fort Dobbs in 1909\, the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized the need to reconstruct the blockhouse. Following initial archaeological investigations in the 1960’s and ’70’s the site became a State Historic Site\, but with several key questions about the original structure still unanswered\, no immediate reconstruction effort was planned.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nIn 2003\, the reincorporated non-profit Friends of Fort Dobbs took up the vision of then-site manager Beth Hill to begin an effort to rebuild. More than a decade of hard work ensued. The Friends undertook a fundraising campaign to fund the effort and co-operated with State officials\, historians\, historic building specialists\, architects\, and noted archaeologist Dr. Larry Babits to develop feasible\, historically sound plans and the capital needed to make Fort Dobbs stand on the banks of Fourth Creek once again. \nFollowing several other facility improvements to the site\, ground was broken for the new fort in August of 2016. A mix of modern and 18th Century construction techniques have been employed to meet the challenge of building a structure that must simultaneously meet modern building standards while also approximating an entirely hand-build piece of military engineering from 260 years ago. We hope\, with your support\, to have Fort Dobbs open as a living history exhibit on a grand scale by early 2019![/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment at the Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville\, North Carolina. \nTags: Fort Dobbs Militia Muster\, Fort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment\, Militia Muster\, French and Indian War Reenactment\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other War of 1812 Encampments & Reenactments

Each year the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield co-sponsors\, with the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry\, sponsor the annual reenactment of the battle in commemoration of the anniversary of the battle fought on June 28\, 1778. Two armies will be preparing to do battle. Continental Army soldiers retrained at Valley Forge are itching to show off their new skills\, while a British-German-Loyalist Army hopes to crush the rebels and restore good government. Come early for a full day of living history. The army encampments will welcome visitors beginning at 9 A.M. Watch soldiers clean their muskets while their women prepare what may be their men’s last meal. Some officers may be drilling their men while others plan for the battle and yet others play cards. If someone is accused of cheating\, there may be a duel. Keep track of your children or they may be drafted into one of the armies. \nThe weekend is sponsored by the re-enactment community\, the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield\, and the New Jersey Division of Parks and Forestry. Daily hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with the Raids reenactments at 2:00 pm daily. The Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment is sponsored by the Friends of Fort Harrod and is the Park’s signature event each year and promises to be bigger and better than ever before! \n\nOld Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid\nMany reenactors and volunteers work hard to re-create the actual look and feel of a real Shawnee attack upon Fort Harrod which might have occurred in March 1777. It began a year long seige on the Fort during which many settlers would die violent deaths. The Shawnee killed or stole all of the settlers livestock and burn their crops. The year of 1777 became known as the “Year of Despair” and one can only imagine the terror and hardships the settlers in the Fort had to endure. But\, the Fort held\, attack after attack. Had it not\, there would have been no Harrods Town\, no Harrodsburg and no State of Kentucky. \nFort Harrod was never overrun. At one point they nearly ran out of gun powder which gave rise to the famous “Powder Run” by George Rogers Clark\, James Harrod and others to obtain the much needed powder. They were successful and the Fort was saved! \nIn addition to the Raids reenactment\, the Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment living history\, colonial music\, cannon fire and Native attacks on the fort. Colonial entertainers will perform all weekend. After the portrayal of this historic battle and what could have been here at Harrod’s Fort the public will be invited to the Native village to watch the adoption ceremonies for the women and children as they could have been carried out if Harrod had fallen. This is a very authentic\, educational and entertaining experience that is not to be missed. \nHours: Gate open 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. both days\nAdmission: Regular Park Admission\nAdults $7.00\nSeniors $6.00\nChildren $4.00 (6-12)\nDiscounts for Military & Veterans $1.00 off \nSATURDAY\nLiving History takes place all day both days.\n9:00 Gates Open\, followed by a Cannon blast\n10:00 Native Drumming demonstrations\n11:00 Life of a Settler\n12:00 Native Attack on the Fort\n1:00 Native Practice of Capture and Adoption\n1:50 Cannon firing demonstration\n2:00 Chief Logan\n3:00 Daniel Boone\, presented by Steve Caudill\n4:00 Native cooking demonstrations\n5:00 Second Native Raid on the fort (this time they take the fort)! \nSUNDAY\n9:00 Gates Open\n9:00 Sunday Morning Service\n10:00 Native Drumming demonstrations\n12:00 Life of a Settler\n1:00 Native Practice of Capture and Adoption\, by Don Shaver\n2:00 Native Attack on the Fort\n3:00 Daniel Boone\, presented by Steve Caudill\n5:00 Gates Close \n \nLocation\nOld Fort Harrod State Park\n100 S College Street\nHarrodsburg\, KY 40330 \nFor More Information: Call 859-734-3314; Email fortharrod@ky.gov \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment in June at Old Fort Harrod State Park in Harrodsburg\, Kentucky. \nTags: Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid\, Old Fort Harrod Settlement & Raid\, Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment\, Old Fort Harrod Settlement & Raid Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactments \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

Over 14\,000 men and women mustered into service for the Union Army at this site in which 1\,480 did not return to Michigan buried in the battle field cemeteries in the South. Historic Fort Wayne is one of a handful of star forts left in the US. The Fort is also one of few remaining sites\, in Michigan\, where soldiers from the Civil War trained. \n \nAbout The Historic Fort Wayne Coalition\nThe Historic Fort Wayne Coalition is dedicated to preserving the history of Michigan men and women who served their country between 1845 and 1973 who either sent material to or personally passed through Historic Fort Wayne as a place of induction to United States military service. We are busy helping the Fort’s caretakers\, the City of Detroit Recreation Department with this effort in two major ways. First\, we present high quality events that provide ways for the public to enjoy Historic Fort Wayne and see glimpses of how it would have looked when it was garrisoned. We are also very busy preserving and restoring as much of the structures and facilities as possible on the Fort grounds. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Historic Fort Wayne Colonial Days in June at Fort Wayne in Detroit\, Michigan. \nTags: Historic Fort Wayne Colonial Days\, Colonial Days at Historic Fort Wayne\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events
