SUMMARY:Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:2018 Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nDon’t miss the 18th Annual Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment on March 17-18\, 2018 at the Hitch Ranch in Moorpark\, California\, the largest battle reenactment on the West Coast. Hundreds of Reenactors and thousands of spectators come from all over the state and nation each year for this spectacular event. Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment activities include four battle reenactments (with cannon and musket fire)\, Abraham Lincoln delivering the Gettysburg Address\, solider and civilian encampments\, Confederate army surrendering to the Union army and period dancing and music. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aQySI8mSF0&width=650&height=400&[/embedyt] \nCentury Market Fair at Locust Grove\nThe featured battles vary each year\, but are always torn from the pages of history. Much time is spent in planning its reenactment for the time and space available. The Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment is presented by the Rotary Club of Moorpark\, and is designed to educate the public about the historical significance of the Civil War and its effect on the United States including the abolishment of slavery. There will also be historic dancing and music playing near the food court. \nThe Encampment\nUnion and Confederate encampments can be visited where various demonstrations occur\, such as blacksmithing\, doctor’s tent\, the chapel\, the use of arms and cooking on an open fire\, etc. The soldiers are in authentic costumes and stay in character as they converse with the public\, transporting them back to the 1860s. The Civilian Camp is right alongside the soldier’s camps. Demonstrations here include many skills needed for day-to-day life in that period\, such as sewing\, weaving\, cooking\, etc. \nSutlers\nSutlers are civilian merchants who sell provisions to an army in the field\, in camp\, or in quarters. Sutlers sold wares from the back of a wagon or a temporary tent\, traveling with an army or to remote military outposts. At the Moorpark Blue and Gray Civil War Reenactment\, they will be selling reenacting supplies and uniforms\, shoes\, leather goods\, weapons\, (non-firing\, non-functional)\, and other related items. \nHours: Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. \nAdmission: \nSave money and purchase your tickets online.\nThis year we are offering New Family and VIP Packages AND Coupon Specials. Teachers – Get in the Zone:\nBring American History to Life! To get students to fully appreciate what it was like during the American Civil War\, there is no better way to share those impressions than to take them to a quality Civil War Reenactment\, or encourage them to attend and gather information that they can submit for extra class credit.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nOver the past several years\, we have had a number of educators call and arrange for a group discount in order to take their American History class to our event on Saturday or Sunday. When you see the smiles on their faces and the enthusiasm of the students while they’re learning about events during the War\, you realize what a wonderful educational experience it is for them. They get to see first-hand what a typical Civil War encampment looks like\, the surgeon’s tent\, the soldier’s clothing\, their guns and ammunition\, canons firing\, the thrill of talking to Abraham Lincoln and General Lee\, a typical soldier’s mess\, and they’ll be able to talk to re-enactors\, in full costume and in character. All of this will bring the experience to life for the students. \nIf you haven’t planned a field trip for your history class\, we encourage you to consider our event. There is no better history lesson for your students than to expose them to the look and feel of our American Civil War and the extreme sacrifices that so many made in our Country for the freedoms that we enjoy today as a free Nation. \nOur event committee has approved a special Group Rate. See Group Reservations (20 or more) in the Contact section of this website. Go to “Group Reservations” for more information on ordering your tickets today. \nThere is ample food service\, reasonably priced at our event in our food court along with tables and chairs for keeping your group together. \nOn our website\, you will find several photos that will show you what our event looks like and what your students can expect to see in the encampment. Your students can see both North and South encampments. We expect to have over 700 re-enactors and their families in costume along with a large contingent of Civil War Sutlers\, that were the merchants of that era that followed the encampments. \nWe have also posted a Civil War Questionnaire that your students can complete by gathering information at the event. They have to do interviews\, in many cases\, to gather the information\, so it’s a live learning experience. \nFinally\, you will find links above to two short VIDEO clips\, that we produced\, called Gettysburg. Please click on the links and take a look. They are quality pieces of Abraham Lincoln reciting the Gettysburg address interspersed with battle scenes of past year’s events. It’s quite moving and I would encourage you to play it for your American History class. The other video is quite good too. \nThis event is all about teaching our younger generation of the sacrifices that were made by so many during our American Civil War. And there is no better way to communicate that than by scheduling a field trip to our event and letting us host you and your class to a wonderful learning experience. \nPlease go to Contacts / Group Reservations for more information.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nLocation\nHitch Ranch\n100 West High Street\nMoorpark\, CA 93020\nAccess the Blue and The Gray Civil War Reenactment site at the West end of High street directly opposite the entrance to Moorpark’s Post Office. After the Florida territory was transferred to the U.S.\, the Navy established a small depot here in 1822 to rid the area of pirates. Fishing\, salvaging wrecked ships and cigar manufacturing became the driving economic forces behind the island’s growth making Key West the richest city in Florida in the 1890s. The U.S. Army began construction of Fort Taylor\, named for President Zachary Taylor\, in 1845. With secession and the beginning of war in 1861\, Fort Taylor remained under federal control — one of only three fortresses in Florida to do so — and served as the headquarters for the Federal Navy’s East Gulf Coast Blockading Squadron staying on ‘active duty’ status through 1947. Today\, the fort is a National Historic Landmark containing the largest cache of Civil War-era seacoast cannons in the U.S. \nCannon and Arches\nUnion troops took control of Fort Zachary Taylor early in the Civil War and maintained it through the duration of the war. They made use of the fort’s impressive artillery\, including 10-inch Rodman and Columbiad cannons to detain blockade-running ships seeking to supply the Confederacy. In 1968\, a large supply of Civil War-era guns and ammunition were discovered in the Fort’s buried arsenal. In fact\, Fort Zachary Taylor held the largest collection of Civil War-era cannons in the United States. \nFort Moat\nSoon after the park opened to the public\, a contractor began the process of digging a moat around the fortress. There were two reasons for the project. One was to prevent easy entry into the structure. The other was to give the illusion of the fort in its early days\, surrounded by water. The end result was an attractive division between the fort and the beach and sea beyond. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Taylor Living History Weekend on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month from March to September at Historic Fort Taylor in Key West\, FL. \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

Oak Grove served as a Confederate hospital during the Civil War. In March 1865\, the plantation became a Union hospital during the Battle of\, part of the larger Battle of Averasboro. Cannon and bullets have scarred the building. It is considered one of the oldest houses in Harnett County. \nAbout the Battle of the Black River & Battle of Averasboro\nThe Battle of the Black River was part of the larger Battle of Averasboro. The Battle at Averasboro was intended to slow Gen. William T. Sherman’s army down so the Confederates could organize at Bentonville. The Battle of Averasboro was fought March 16\, 1865\, in Harnett and Cumberland counties\, North Carolina\, as part of the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War\, was a prelude to the climactic Battle of Bentonville\, which began three days later. Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman was moving his army north towards Goldsboro in two columns. The right column (Army of the Tennessee) was under the command of Maj. Gen. Oliver O. Howard and the left column (Army of Georgia) was under Maj. Gen. Henry W. Slocum.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nConfederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston sent Lt. Gen. William J. Hardee’s corps to attack Slocum’s left wing while it was separated from the rest of Sherman’s forces. Slocum’s troops had crossed the Cape Fear River at Fayetteville and were marching up the Raleigh plank road. Near Averasboro\, they encountered Hardee’s corps. On the morning of the March 16\, troops of the Union XX Corps under Maj. Gen. Alpheus S. Williams were driven back by a Confederate assault. When reinforcements arrived\, the Union forces counter attacked and drove back two lines of Confederates\, but were stopped by a third line. By this time\, units from Maj. Gen. Jefferson C. Davis’s XIV Corps began to arrive on the field. Outnumbered and in danger of being flanked\, Hardee’s troops withdrew. \nThe Confederates had not held up the Union Army as long as they had hoped. Each side suffered about 700 casualties; however\, these were losses the Federals could afford while the Confederates could not. The Battle of Averasboro was fought on the grounds of Oak Grove\, near Erwin\, North Carolina.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment Battle of Black River in February at the Oak Grove Plantation in Godwin\, North Carolina. \nTags: Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment Battle of Black River\, Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment\, Battle of Black River Reenactment\, Battle of Averasboro Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

None were more important than the Buncombe Turnpike built in 1828 that ran through the mountains at Warm Springs\, North Carolina. This area would see many conflicts throughout the war\, with both sides trying to gain control of the area. \nThe Civil War in Madison County\, North Carolina\nBecause Madison County was a “border county” in a “border state” during the Civil War\, there are many examples of communities as well as families divided in their allegiances. There were no major battles in Madison County although both armies moved through the area and Madison County furnished troops for both sides. A few skirmishes were fought within the County: one at Cuffey Field on Spring Creek and a second on the hotel grounds at Warm Springs (the former name of the town of Hot Springs). Each year since 2008\, the Hot Springs Resort & Spa has hosted a Civil War re-enactment of that skirmish\, the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, on the first weekend of November. \n\nReenactor registration is $5.00 for pre-registration by October 15\, $15.00 after that date.\nIf you intend on renting a cabin or room during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment weekend\, you should reserve it soon as they will fill up fast\nAn evening meal will be served for pre-registered re-enactors. Gates are open to the public Saturday and Sunday 9a – 5p. A small gate fee applies. All proceeds from the gate go towards the upkeep of Fort Crevecoeur Park. \nIf you wish to be a participant in this event and are new to our gathering family please feel free to contact us for details; we would love to have you join us. \nExperience frontier life from 1680 to 1850 at the Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous. The two-day event brings together history enthusiasts and curious spectators to raise money and awareness of the fort’s history. \nLa Salle and his men built the original fort in 1680 while constructing a boat to travel the Mississippi River. According to historians\, the fort was burned down. The exact location of the original fort has been the subject of great debate since Peoria was founded. A reconstructed fort now commemorates Illinois’ first European-built structure. \nTwice a year in spring and fall\, the not-for-profit Fort Crevecoeur\, Inc. holds Rendezvous Days as a main fundraiser to maintain the fort and surrounding park. But the primary goal of the event is to give people a taste of life in the old days\, Hanse said. \nMen and women dressed as traders and Native Americans sold items like arrowheads\, walking sticks and beaded jewelry. Tents and tepees dotted the park and participants demonstrated trades like old-fashioned rope making and knife crafting. \nLocation\nFort Crevecoeur Park\n301 Lawnridge Dr\,\nCreve Coeur\, IL 61610\nPhone:(309) 694-3193 \nContact\nFort Crevecoeur Park Office\n309-694-3193 \n \nAbout Fort Crevecoeur Park\nFort Crevecoeur Park is located near Peoria and includes a reconstructed Fort Crevecoeur (about nine miles from the original location)\, a museum and a campground. French explorer Robert de La Salle (1643-87) helped the Peoria Indians build a fort in 1860 to defend themselves against the Iroquois. LaSalle made a deal with the local tribes to protect them from the Iroquois tribal league. LaSalle fostered good relationships with the tribes—Fort Creve Coeur wasn’t around too long though—this original site quickly became abandoned as Tonti left to fortify Starved Rock. Tonti’s mission to Starved Rock was to only end in failure though. However\, the Fort Crevecoeur’s seven man garrison quit their fort\, destroyed the fortifications\, and made a trek to Canada. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous and Gathering at Fort Crevecoeur Park in Creve Couer\, Illinois. \nTags: Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous\, Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous & Gathering\, Fort Crevecoeur Rendezvous\, Illinois Rendezvous\, Illinois Voyageur Rendezvous\, Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous

Its history and heritage are still celebrated today through the Battle of Cuba Station Reenactment\, which is held the second weekend of March each year. Reenactors from across the country gather to recreate historical clashes of the American Civil War. In honor of the brave soldiers that served during the great conflict\, and indeed all American troops who have served our nation\, two special memorial services are held. The first of these services is held on second Saturday of March at 10:30 a.m. in downtown Gainesville at the Nathan Bedford Forrest Monument. The second memorial service is held on the second Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Gainesville City Cemetery. It is the final resting place to over 120 Confederate soldiers from the Southeast who perished at or from wounds received during the April 1862 Battle of Shiloh in southwestern Tennessee. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Cuba Station Reenactment in Gainesville\, Alabama. \nTags: Battle of Cuba Station Reenactment\, Battle of Cuba Station Civil War Reenactment\, Alabama Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events
