Oak Grove served as a Confederate hospital during the Civil War. In March 1865\, the plantation became a Union hospital during the Battle of\, part of the larger Battle of Averasboro. Cannon and bullets have scarred the building. It is considered one of the oldest houses in Harnett County. \nAbout the Battle of the Black River & Battle of Averasboro\nThe Battle of the Black River was part of the larger Battle of Averasboro. The Battle at Averasboro was intended to slow Gen. William T. Sherman’s army down so the Confederates could organize at Bentonville. The Battle of Averasboro was fought March 16\, 1865\, in Harnett and Cumberland counties\, North Carolina\, as part of the Carolinas Campaign of the American Civil War\, was a prelude to the climactic Battle of Bentonville\, which began three days later. Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman was moving his army north towards Goldsboro in two columns. The right column (Army of the Tennessee) was under the command of Maj. Gen. Oliver O. Howard and the left column (Army of Georgia) was under Maj. Gen. Henry W. Slocum.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nConfederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston sent Lt. Gen. William J. Hardee’s corps to attack Slocum’s left wing while it was separated from the rest of Sherman’s forces. Slocum’s troops had crossed the Cape Fear River at Fayetteville and were marching up the Raleigh plank road. Near Averasboro\, they encountered Hardee’s corps. On the morning of the March 16\, troops of the Union XX Corps under Maj. Gen. Alpheus S. Williams were driven back by a Confederate assault. When reinforcements arrived\, the Union forces counter attacked and drove back two lines of Confederates\, but were stopped by a third line. By this time\, units from Maj. Gen. Jefferson C. Davis’s XIV Corps began to arrive on the field. Outnumbered and in danger of being flanked\, Hardee’s troops withdrew. \nThe Confederates had not held up the Union Army as long as they had hoped. Each side suffered about 700 casualties; however\, these were losses the Federals could afford while the Confederates could not. The Battle of Averasboro was fought on the grounds of Oak Grove\, near Erwin\, North Carolina.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment Battle of Black River in February at the Oak Grove Plantation in Godwin\, North Carolina. \nTags: Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment Battle of Black River\, Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment\, Battle of Black River Reenactment\, Battle of Averasboro Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

None were more important than the Buncombe Turnpike built in 1828 that ran through the mountains at Warm Springs\, North Carolina. This area would see many conflicts throughout the war\, with both sides trying to gain control of the area. \nThe Civil War in Madison County\, North Carolina\nBecause Madison County was a “border county” in a “border state” during the Civil War\, there are many examples of communities as well as families divided in their allegiances. There were no major battles in Madison County although both armies moved through the area and Madison County furnished troops for both sides. A few skirmishes were fought within the County: one at Cuffey Field on Spring Creek and a second on the hotel grounds at Warm Springs (the former name of the town of Hot Springs). Each year since 2008\, the Hot Springs Resort & Spa has hosted a Civil War re-enactment of that skirmish\, the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, on the first weekend of November. \n\nReenactor registration is $5.00 for pre-registration by October 15\, $15.00 after that date.\nIf you intend on renting a cabin or room during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment weekend\, you should reserve it soon as they will fill up fast\nAn evening meal will be served for pre-registered re-enactors. You must have your pass.\nReenactor Registration Form Download\nArtillery/Cavalry registrations need to contact 2NCMI BEFORE registering.\n\nLocation\nHot Springs Resort and Spa Grounds\n315 Bridge Street\nHot Springs\, NC 28743\n(828) 622-7676 \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment in Hot Springs\, NC. \nTags: Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, Battle of Warm Springs Civil War Reenactment\, Warm Springs Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

Then\, it was an earthen fort\, but by World War 2 the concrete battlements of Battery Russell and other areas were built. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t forget the next Fort Stevens Civil War Reenactment on the Labor Day Weekend at Fort Stevens Park in Hammond\, Oregon. \nTags: Fort Stevens Civil War Reenactment\, Oregon Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

SUMMARY:Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:Relive history at the Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment on March 18-19\, 2017 at the Picacho Peak State Park in Eloy\, Arizona. Join with thousands of spectators who come to watch the reenactment of the Arizona Civil War skirmish\, the Battle of Picacho Pass — and the New Mexico battles of Glorieta and Val Verde. \n[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAGVLdrZ5Y4&width=540&height=333[/embedyt] \nVisitors travel from around the country to experience the Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment with its three exciting and historic battle reenactments complete with lifestyles of the soldiers in the southwest during the 1860s. More than 200 reenactors come from many states to camp at the park with their authentic Civil War camping gear. \nFood and beverage concessions will be available. Visitors are encouraged to bring plenty of water\, as well as lawn chairs\, hats and sunscreen. Pets are not permitted (they don’t much care for cannon and musket fire!). \n \nIn addition to the battle reenactments\, spectators can see artillery and cavalry demonstrations\, presentations on women in the Civil War and soldiering in the Southwest\, plus the “period-appropriate” musical entertainment. \nThe Battle of Picacho Peak\nCivil War battles across America were well documented and history teachers carefully covered each battle across the East Coast\, but few ever thought what was happening in the West during this time. A battle of the American Civil War was a skirmish fought near a rocky spire called Picacho Peak located between Phoenix and Tucson\, Arizona. The new highway follows the old wagon route that passed Picacho in 1862. \nIn 1860 the New Mexico Territory\, which consisted of the lands that would become the states of Arizona and New Mexico\, was sparsely populated. When the Civil War broke out in 1861\, the U.S. Government recalled the majority of its troops from the West to build the Union army for the fighting in the east. Henry Hopkins Sibley joined the Confederacy and convinced Jefferson Davis that he would raise an army in Texas and invade New Mexico territories. He proposed that mineral resources would fill the coffers of the Confederacy and fund their massive war effort. \n \nTucson was the capitol of the Confederate Territory of Arizona between February 20\, 1862 when some 120 Texas Rebels took control of El Presidio San Agustin del Tucson and late April\, when the 1\,800-strong Union army of the California Volunteers entered this dusty\, dirty little Mexican town without firing a shot. \nDuring that short period\, 50 miles NW of Tucson\, an engagement was fought between a Union cavalry patrol and a party of Confederate pickets from Tucson. Every year in March\, dedicated men and women from all over come together at Picacho Peak State Park to reenact The Battle of Picacho Peak. \nMark your calendar so you won’t miss any of the action at the Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment at the Picacho Peak State Park in Eloy\, Arizona! \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events
