Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Park entrance fees apply. \nOne Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick will give visitors a look at life in the fort as volunteers exhibit the varied roles the Fort played during the French and Indian War\, the American Revolution\, and the Civil War. \nThough Fort Frederick isn’t famous for ‘Heroic Last Stands’ or battles\, its re-use throughout history\, for such a variety or reasons makes it unique. Activities and living history encampments will give visitors a look into the small heroics of history; the daily lives of the people who served throughout these much larger conflicts. \nHighlights of One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick include: \n\nFlag Raising\nFrench and Indian War Era Military Drill\n“Sundry women” – women’s roles in the 18th Century\n18th Century Military Field Music\nVolunteer Company Drill\nCole’s Maryland Cavalry (Union) in the Civil War (Saturday ONLY)\nAmerican Revolutionary War Drill\n“Forsaking their Plantation” Maryland Refugees during Pontiac’s War of 1763\nThe Life of a British Prisoner of War during the American Revolution\nCivil War Military drill\nFlag Lowering\n\nAdmission Fees\nThere is a service charge of $3 per car for Maryland residents and $5 per car for non-Maryland residents for this event. Disabled access is available; however\, most of the event activities are situated on grassy areas that may present difficult rolls or walks. Please dress for inclement weather or hot sunny days. \nLocation\nFort Frederick State Park\n11100 Fort Frederick Road\nBig Pool\, MD 21711\n301-842-2155 \nThe One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick program takes a deeper look at the uses of the Fort and the roles of the people there\, during the French and Indian War\, The American Revolution\, and the Civil War. Originally built by Governor Horatio Sharpe of Maryland to protect the frontier during the French and Indian War\, his decision to build it of stone made it a lasting monument\, and a place to reuse. Twenty years later George Washington sent one of his Colonels to the Fort to turn it into a Prison camp\, and throughout the War of Independence 1000 British prisoners were kept captive\, guarded by American Troops. By the Civil War the Fort was in ruins and used as farmland\, but with the proximity of the Canal and Railway\, Union troops would often camp in those ruins to protect those supply lines from Confederate raiders. While not a turning point in history for any of those conflicts\, the program will allow a closer look at life for the common soldier serving in the Wars that shaped the Nation. DESCRIPTION:2019 Battle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n                                    \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                    \nAll are welcome at the 25th Annual Battle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment on September6-8\, 2019 at the Tunnel Hill Heritage Center in Tunnel Hill\, Georgia. The Battle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment has been held the weekend after Labor Day on the hallowed ground at Tunnel Hill Georgia since 1993 recreating the Battles and Skirmishes In North West Georgia beginning the 100 Days Fight to Atlanta and The Sea. The battle reenactment is among the few to take place on the actual site of the battle. Because of development or other factors\, many other Civil War reenactments have to take place near but not on the actual site of the battle. \n\nBattle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment\nExperience the sights and sounds of battle as cannons blast\, the horses charge and the soldiers give the Rebel yell as they clash in authentic conflict on the historic grounds of Tunnel Hill. Visitors to the Battle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment will enjoy a weekend of civil war battle reenactments\, walk the 1\,477 foot long Historic Western & Atlantic Railroad Tunnel built in 1850\, Tunnel Museum\, “Meadowlawn\,” the 1850 Clisby Austin House – headquarters of General William T. Sherman\, as well as various food vendors and period sutler tents. Interact with the reenactors\, visit Union and Confederate camps\, then find your spot along the spectator line to watch the battle unfold at 2:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday. \nBetween 500 and 700 Civil War reenactors\, representing both the Union and the Confederacy\, are expected at the Battle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment. Confederate Gen. John Bell Hood recuperated at the house after his leg was amputated\, and the leg was buried nearby. The house later served as a headquarters for Sherman. \nSutlers (Period Vendors)\nThere will be several “sutlers\,” vendors selling food and drink as well as Civil War-style clothing and other items. Sutlery is by prior arrangement through the Sutler Coordinator or Event Coordinator due to site carrying capacity. \nPLEASE NOTE FLYING OF CONFEDERATE NATIONAL AND REGIMENTAL COLORS IS ENCOURAGED.\nWe will not disgrace our ancestors\, Confederate or Federal by attemoting to place the Politiccally Corerct Crowd\, nor will we bow to Tyrants who wish our History made palatable to them. \nThis was a Bloody War that Fire-formed this Nation into who it is today. These were American Citizen Soldiers\, who held different Loyalties in battles that showed the true Valor of both Sides as well as the terrible sacrifice\, showed their Honored Banners from that War. \nIf you do not like either the Union of States National and Regimental Colors nor the Confederate National and Regimental Colors\, please do not attend as a spectator\, we respect your beliefs and would fight to protect them but we also recognize our ancestors beliefs and history and will not bow our heads on either side to political expediency nor to ANY hate group. \nADA Accessibility Notes\nThe museum is equipped with handicap restroom facilities; parking available; there is a lot of walking\, both on pavement and on the ground. \nPet Friendly Notes\nDogs must be on a leash at all time; while they are welcome\, it’s not recommended due to the loud noise of the battle (cannons and gun fire) \nAbout the Construction & Battle for Tunnel Hill\nIn 1836 the Georgia General Assembly created the Western & Atlantic Railroad\, which would connect Ross’s Landing (soon to be renamed Chattanooga) with a point on the Chattahoochee River. Southern terminus of the 138-mile route was staked out with a “zero mile post” seven miles southeast of the Chattahoochee. A village sprouted around the point\, eventually to become the city of Atlanta. Long found a way of not having to tunnel through Missionary Ridge\, but in mountainous north Georgia\, Chetoogeta Mountain\, thirty miles south of Chattanooga\, had to be dug through. Work began July 1848 and the tunnel was opened October 1849. Track was laid and the first train passed through on May 9\, 1850. \nDuring the Civil War the Western & Atlantic was an important Confederate supply line\, especially for the Army of Tennessee. The unsuccessful Union army raid led by civilian James J. Andrews on April 2\, 1862 was intended to disrupt it. In the Georgia Campaign of 1864 the W & A served both the retreating and advancing armies. \nUnion forces seized Tunnel Hill in the opening days of the campaign. On the morning of May 7 Brig. Gen. Jefferson Davis’ Fourteenth Corps division advanced toward Tunnel Hill. Maj. J. T. Holmes’ 52nd Ohio was in the lead and found 50-100 Confederate cavalry near the town. After a brisk skirmish the Southern horsemen retired back toward Johnston’s main line along Rocky Face Ridge. The Confederates did not try to damage the tunnel and only took up some rails\, which were quickly replaced. It’s easy to find on the corner of Brown and Randolph streets. It’s always easy to find\, just look for the longest line. The best part is once you purchase your bottle (they offer a variety of sizes) you can take it back and have it refilled at a discounted price. Usually very close to the root beer stand is the kettle corn. Don’t worry you won’t have any problem finding it. Just take a deep sniff and follow your nose to the sweet smell of cooking kettle corn. Once you have your drink you will of course need something to eat. You won’t be disappointed in the amount of choices of food. Food vendors line the main drag of the park and you can get everything from a pulled pork sandwich to deep fried Oreos. \nWhat to Bring\nAugust in Michigan is hot\, so come prepared. Bring something to sit on while watching the battle\, blankets or camp chairs work fine. Bring or be prepared to purchase water. There is little shade at Cascades Falls Park and you will want to stay hydrated. Wear\, and bring\, sunscreen and slip on your comfy walking shoes. If you have little ones\, or someone that is sensitive to loud noises\, consider bringing a set of ear plugs. The battle gets very loud. \n \nBonus Info\nThis is a FREE event. DESCRIPTION:2019 Battle of Dry Creek Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n                                    \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                    \nThe 156th Anniversary Battle of Dry Creek Reenactment will be held on August 16-18\, 2019 at the Greenbrier State Forest off of Exit 175\, Interstate 64 near Caldwell\, West Virginia. A Tactical will be held on Saturday morning with Infantry\, Calvary and Artillery participating. Saturdays activities will also include a NCWAA Cannon Certification School\, Live Fire\, a Skirmish\, Military Ball/Concert and Night Firing of Canons. Camps will open to the public on Sunday at 10:00 am and will remain open through the battle. Sutlers will be on site selling reproduction and hand-made crafts\, period clothing and other unique items representing the Civil War. \n\nBattle of Dry Creek Reenactment\nLater that afternoon at 1:30 p.m.\, a “live fire” cannon target competition will take place. At 5:00 p.m.\, dinner will be provided for all pre-registered re-enactors\, followed by the Military Ball from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m.\, so ladies bring your dresses. The Public is invited to attend and participate in the Military Ball. A night firing of the cannons will occur shortly after sunset. \nOn Sunday the re-enactment of the Battle of Dry Creek will begin at 1:30 p.m. THERE IS NO COST FOR SPECTATORS. The Renfrew Museum and Park consists of 107 acres along the east branch of the Antietam Creek and includes beautifully restored buildings that date back to the 1790s when Daniel Royer purchased the land and built a tannery and gristmill. The reenactment has been held since 1980 and has been sponsored by the 139th PVI Co. F since the very beginning. \n\nRenfrew Pk Civil War Reenactment\nThe Renfrew Farm boasts farmland\, woodland\, and meadows and 50 acres of wilderness/wildlife preserve. Shaded camping for all military and civilians is located in a beautiful grotto area with a stream\, at the center of all thereenactment events. Participants are provided with fresh\, cold running water\, fire wood\, and modern bathroom facilities. \nLive a Day in the Life of a Civil War Soldier\nThe Civil War Reenactment isn’t all cannons and gunpowder. The event\, and others like it also give a glimpse into daily life for civilians and soldiers during the war. Spectators are encouraged to visit the camps — Union\, Confederate and civilian — for demonstrations of period dress\, food and medicine\, to meet the cavalry and their horses and to strike up conversations with in-character reenactors. The roar of cannons will rebound across Lake Fanny Hooe when Civil War-era living-history group Battery D\, 1st Michigan Light Artillery\, pitches camp at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park in Copper Harbor in Michigan’s beautiful Keweenaw Peninsula. Re-creating the volunteer artillery unit organized at White Pigeon in 1861\, the group will interpret army life of the period\, demonstrating artillery drills\, period cooking and soldiers’ pastimes. The Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment features battle reenactments including Pickett’s Charge\, living history\, period music\, sutlers\, encampments and more. All reenactment activities are held at a reenactment site outside of the Gettysburg National Miliary Park at 965 Pumping Station Road\, Gettysburg\, PA 17325. \n\nGettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment\nGettysburg Reenactment Visitor Tips\nGeneral Admission Tickets (Required) admit you into the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment site\, all activities and demonstrations for the day. Be sure to wear light-colored clothing\, hats\, comfortable shoes\, sunglasses and sunscreen. Bring the bottle of sunscreen with you; it wears off after 2 hours. Early August is typically hot and sunny in Gettysburg.\nSun umbrellas may be used right up until the guns can be heard\, marking the start of the reenactment. They must be lowered at that time. \n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”More Visitor Tips”]\nBleacher Seating (Optional) The bleacher seating (additional fee) offers the best view possible for the battles and demonstrations. Bleacher tickets cannot be purchased without a general admission ticket. Seating is first come\, first served. The seating is not shaded. The bleachers will open one hour before each battle and must be vacated after each battle for security\, inspection\, and maintenance—the battles last approximately one hour. The bleacher seating is limited. Order your tickets while there is still seating available. There will be troop movement over the entire field; everyone will see some distant as well as close-up action. Bringing a pair of binoculars will help you see in the distance.Your tickets are good for the entire day. The bleacher seating tickets are for the battles and field demonstrations; your general admission ticket gives you access to all of the other events i.e. the activities tents; the living history village\, etc. Seating is provided inside the activities tents. There are shade tents throughout the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment site. \nVideo/Film equipment may not be used in any of the spectator areas if it requires a tripod or is shoulder held\, such as larger camcorders. ONLY hand-held recorders can be used in spectator areas. No one may stand in front of lawn chair areas for filming and of course\, you may not walk out on the Battlefield at any time to take photos. Umbrellas must be lowered during battles. Interpretation of these guidelines is the exclusive right of the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee (GAC) and its staff. \nYoung children are often afraid of very loud noises and being close to the cannons can be a scary experience for kids under 5 years old. Cotton helps dull the noise and may be a good idea for anyone near the big guns. \nHandicap Parking is available at the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment event site. There are also golf cart shuttles that can transport individuals with mobility issues from the ticket booth to the spectator/seating area. Most event activities are fairly close in proximity. Please be aware the Gettysburg Reenactment takes place on open farm fields and the terrain will be bumpy in some areas. \nStrollers are permitted on the event site but may have a more difficult time maneuvering on this farm ground. Strollers are not permitted in the grandstands; however\, stroller parking is available under the grandstands. The Gettysburg Anniversary Committee and its staff assume no liability for strollers and other personal property left unattended under the grandstands or any other location on the event site. \nBicycles may be ridden to the parking areas\, but not on site. We do not provide security for bicycles and advise against bringing them\, but this is your decision. \nBackpacks\, Coolers & Large Bags – As a safety precaution for all persons attending the event NO backpacks\, cooler or large bags will be permitted through the event gates. Please leave these items at home or in your vehicle so you do not have to return them to your vehicle. Hundreds of reenactors will be setting up camp and participating in a weekend of going back in time. Sharing the living history with everyone is truly what the event is all about\, plus a good battle reenactment. Using all the tools and housewares of the days gone by you get a real idea how hard live was back then. \n\nBattle for Turkeyville Civil War Reenactment\nTurkeyville offers the opportunity to dig a trench that was a real part of the civil war close to the end the war. To watch the battle you will sit on bales of straw on the edge of the battlefield and you can listen to the narrator tell you what it is you are watching and sharing with the crowd some details that might be lost at any other battle. \nSaturday Evening there is a Grand Ball planned so everyone in the settlement will be in their Sunday best. There is a time original band with a caller to get everyone up and dancing to the music. During the day you can catch the blacksmith working\, have a conversation with Jefferson Davis and many more. Rapidly becoming the biggest and most popular part of Union Gap’s Annual Old Time Days Celebration\, Union Gap Old Town Days Civil War Reenactment features participants in period dress in the Union and Confederate Civil War Camps. \n\nUnion Gap Old Town Days Civil War Reenactment\nWashington state has a large and very active group of Civil War reenactores. Many of these reenactors\, as part of the Washington Civil War Association portrays civilians\, infantry\, cavalry\, artillery\, Army\, Navy\, Marines\, engineers\, surgeons\, nurses\, ministry and settlers. They will march into the battle reenactments in military dress with drum and fife. Battles feature black powder guns and cannon. “Abraham Lincoln” will give his Gettysburg Address each day following the battle. \nVisitors are invited to get in on the fun by dressing in period costume and attend the Civil War Era dance on Saturday eveningy. Take a Wagon Tour back in time through the Agricultural Museum. Enjoy live entertainment\, food venders or bring your own picnic. Michigan’s Heritage Park Civil War Weekend will include drills\, battles\, music\, children’s activities\, and a talks by special presenters. \nThe Third Michigan Volunteer Infantry Company F Reenactors\, a group of civilian reenactors\, will set up camp at the park for the weekend. The men and women of the Third Michigan are as authentic as possible in their dress and manner as they portray what life was like during the American Civil War for soldiers and civilians alike. \nThe park will open at 10 a.m. both days. Just north of Bedford near the town of Loysburg\, a network of defensive trenches dug to protext Loysburg Gap survives to this day. The trenches were occupied in June of 1863 as residents of the area feared the invasion could target the farms and livestock of Morrison’s Cove and the railroad in Altoona to support Confederate troop in the field. \nEach year\, the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment features hundreds of reenactors from state across the region. These living historians have a true passion for the Civil War time period they portray\, and have spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours researching what and where to obtain the equipment and knowledge needed to portray the life of the common soldier serving in that war. \nDuring the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment\, visitors can visit the camp sites of soldiers serving in both the Union and Confederate armies. They can witness what camp life was like\, learn how the soldiers passed the time when they weren’t marching or fighting\, and speak with the reenactors (and don’t worry\, they do like to talk about this favorite topic). Civilian life is also represented as many women and children also attend the event in period attire. Each afternoon a battle reenactment will unfold\, and visitors will have the opportunity to see first-hand the sights\, sounds\, and smells of battle. No history book or television documentary can give a viewer as realistic an experience as attending a Civil War reenactment in person. \nWhat makes the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment even more special is the Village itself. Because of the many original 17th and 18th century structures on site\, Old Bedford Village truly presents the image of a town that ha been overrun by two great armies\, with residents forced from their homes as soldiers move in\, camp in their yards\, and procure their food and livestock. The Lehigh Valley Civil War Days weekend will include a battle reenactment each day centering on the events during the early days of the war. This will include fighting in trenches that have been constructed for the event. Learn how the Civil War was fought in 1864 through battle reenactments\, discussions with Living Historians and tours of the trenches. Take time to stroll through the Military Camps\, talk with the reenactors from both sides\, and learn about a Soldier’s Life and activities during the war. \n\nLehigh Valley Civil War Days\nBetween Lehigh Valley Civil War Days battle reenactments\, walk down the Friends of Camp Geiger’s historical street\, featuring the U.S. Sanitary Commission\, children’s games\, parlor games for adults\, a children’s recruiting station and more. Children can simulate joining the war effort at a recruitment station\, where they will be given wooden rifles and taught how to load them and go through lineup. Children’s games include jacks and cups and Game of Graces\, where children use two rods to toss a hoop back and forth. Visit the Lyceum to learn about Civil War period music and to hear lectures about the war. Infantry and Artillery demonstrations\, and period music can be seen throughout the day. The Lehigh Valley Civil War Days Saturday evening twilight concert at the Lyceum will be followed by exciting artillery night firing. Relive the year 1861\, when the First Land Battle of the Civil War was fought. Blue and Gray Reunion – Battle of Philippi Reenactors will highlight important moments in the history that gives Philippi its historical significance. Confederate and Union troops will erect campsites which the public is invited to visit. Other activities during the weekend include artillery demonstrations\, a little soldiers’ battle\, an amputation re-enactment\, a Grand Parade\, live entertainment at the Courthouse Square Gazebo\, a Civil War Ball\, a 5K Run\, Amateur Kayak Race\, a Blue & Gray Community Choir Concert\, Pie and Cupcake Contest at the Gazebo\, a Quilt Show at The Market Place\, Buggy Hay Rides\, Courthouse tours\, craft park\, and food vendors. \n\nBlue and Gray Reunion – Battle of Philippi Reenactment\nFriday is Walking History Day. More than 20 stations will introduce visitors to life in a Civil War camp\, history of Philippi’s First Land Battle of the Civil War\, camp cooking and games\, soldiers’ and women’s clothing during the war\, a visit with General Stonewall Jackson in the Barbour County Courthouse\, Civil War era music\, and more. \nBlue and Gray Reunion – Battle of Philippi Reenactment of the First Land Battle of the Civil War will take place at 2:00 pm on Philippi’s Main Street. Following the battle\, a reenactment of the historic Hanger amputation will take place in Sutler Row on Main Street. \nAbout the actual Battle of Philippi\nThe Battle of Philippi formed part of the Western Virginia Campaign of the American Civil War\, and was fought in and around Philippi\, Virginia (now West Virginia) on June 3\, 1861. On May 28\, 1861\, Col. George Porterfield and his Confederate troops arrived in Philippi\, where they camped or were quartered in town. Neighbors and families were already divided on the question of secession. There were at least 750\, if not upwards of 2\,000 troops. At daylight on June 3\, two columns of Union forces\, with perhaps 3\,000 men\, arrived from Grafton under the command of Col. Ebenezer Dumont and Col. Benjamin Kelley. A Union victory\, it was the first organized land action of the war\, though generally viewed as a skirmish rather than a battle. \nMistaking a pistol shot by a Mrs. Humpreys on the hill above the town as a signal to start the battle\, the Union troops fired on the Confederates with two brass six-pound Napoleon cannons. The Confederates routed to a big rock south of town and departed in good order to Belington and ultimately to Beverly. \nThe Original Blue and Gray Renuion\nOn June 3\, 1911 the first “Home Coming Week” ever held in Barbour County of the “Blue and Gray Soldiers” who participated in the 1861 battle was held.
