The Renfrew Museum and Park consists of 107 acres along the east branch of the Antietam Creek and includes beautifully restored buildings that date back to the 1790s when Daniel Royer purchased the land and built a tannery and gristmill. The reenactment has been held since 1980 and has been sponsored by the 139th PVI Co. F since the very beginning. \n\nRenfrew Pk Civil War Reenactment\nThe Renfrew Farm boasts farmland\, woodland\, and meadows and 50 acres of wilderness/wildlife preserve. DESCRIPTION:2019 Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nExperience the sights and sounds of the 156th Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment on July 5-7\, 2019 in Gettysburg\, Pennsylvania. The Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment features battle reenactments including Pickett’s Charge\, living history\, period music\, sutlers\, encampments and more. All reenactment activities are held at a reenactment site outside of the Gettysburg National Miliary Park at 965 Pumping Station Road\, Gettysburg\, PA 17325. \n\nGettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment\nGettysburg Reenactment Visitor Tips\nGeneral Admission Tickets (Required) admit you into the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment site\, all activities and demonstrations for the day. The viewing area that is included in your general admission ticket at no additional charge is ground level and you are permitted to bring a lawn chair\, or stand to watch the battles and field demonstrations. You will be able to see the battles\, but you won’t have the advantage of being elevated\, which helps if there are spectators seated/standing in front of you. You are guaranteed an unobstructed view in the bleachers. Viewing spaces are filled on a first come\, first served basis—arrive early if you intend to set up your chair near the front. \nLocation\nGettysburg Reenactment Field\n965 Pumping Station Road\nGettysburg\, PA 17325\nThe Battles are narrated by Licensed Battlefield Guides. All reenactment activities are held at the Gettysburg Reenactment Field. \nMaps & Directions\nArrive Early – at least 2 hours before battles begin. It is recommended that you arrive early (gates open at 8:30 a.m.) and plan to spend the day. There is plenty to see and do all over the site. Traffic peaks just prior to the battle times and is also heavy after the battles (especially Pickett’s Charge). Try not to make any commitments in town or “off site” immediately following the battles. Anticipate delays and consider staying on site to relax and enjoy the live period music or stroll through the camps\, sutler\, and food areas following the battles. \nBattle of Blountville Civil War Reenactment Mini-Gallery\n\n \nWhat to Wear – Wear and bring sunscreen with you. Be sure to wear light-colored clothing\, hats\, comfortable shoes\, sunglasses and sunscreen. Bring the bottle of sunscreen with you; it wears off after 2 hours. Early August is typically hot and sunny in Gettysburg.\nSun umbrellas may be used right up until the guns can be heard\, marking the start of the reenactment. They must be lowered at that time. \n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”More Visitor Tips”]\nBleacher Seating (Optional) The bleacher seating (additional fee) offers the best view possible for the battles and demonstrations. Bleacher tickets cannot be purchased without a general admission ticket. Seating is first come\, first served. The seating is not shaded. The bleachers will open one hour before each battle and must be vacated after each battle for security\, inspection\, and maintenance—the battles last approximately one hour. The bleacher seating is limited. Order your tickets while there is still seating available. There will be troop movement over the entire field; everyone will see some distant as well as close-up action. Bringing a pair of binoculars will help you see in the distance.Your tickets are good for the entire day. The bleacher seating tickets are for the battles and field demonstrations; your general admission ticket gives you access to all of the other events i.e. the activities tents; the living history village\, etc. Seating is provided inside the activities tents. There are shade tents throughout the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment site. \nVideo/Film equipment may not be used in any of the spectator areas if it requires a tripod or is shoulder held\, such as larger camcorders. ONLY hand-held recorders can be used in spectator areas. No one may stand in front of lawn chair areas for filming and of course\, you may not walk out on the Battlefield at any time to take photos. Umbrellas must be lowered during battles. Interpretation of these guidelines is the exclusive right of the Gettysburg Anniversary Committee (GAC) and its staff. \nYoung children are often afraid of very loud noises and being close to the cannons can be a scary experience for kids under 5 years old. Cotton helps dull the noise and may be a good idea for anyone near the big guns. \nHandicap Parking is available at the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment event site. There are also golf cart shuttles that can transport individuals with mobility issues from the ticket booth to the spectator/seating area. Most event activities are fairly close in proximity. Please be aware the Gettysburg Reenactment takes place on open farm fields and the terrain will be bumpy in some areas. \nStrollers are permitted on the event site but may have a more difficult time maneuvering on this farm ground. Strollers are not permitted in the grandstands; however\, stroller parking is available under the grandstands. The Gettysburg Anniversary Committee and its staff assume no liability for strollers and other personal property left unattended under the grandstands or any other location on the event site. \nBicycles may be ridden to the parking areas\, but not on site. We do not provide security for bicycles and advise against bringing them\, but this is your decision. \nBackpacks\, Coolers & Large Bags – As a safety precaution for all persons attending the event NO backpacks\, cooler or large bags will be permitted through the event gates. Please leave these items at home or in your vehicle so you do not have to return them to your vehicle. We understand that you may need to carry certain personal items–in a small open-type bag with straps usually works best. All carry items including camera cases will be subject to search by security prior to entering the event. Please allow extra time so we can enhance your safety! The organizers of the Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment event have the right to refuse entry to any person refusing such an inspection. \nFood & Beverages – There will be a variety of foods and beverages available for purchase at the reenactment site\, such as\, hamburgers\, hot dogs\, pizza\, pulled pork BBQ\, Italian sausage\, pit beef\, pit ham\, French fries\, fresh fruit\, water\, sodas\, lemonade etc.\nNo Pets are allowed on site\, in camps\, or in the parking areas.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nReenactor Rules\nAll reenactors must affiliate with a unit to participate. The command staff will attempt to assign individuals registering without a unit affiliation to units but this does not guarantee acceptance by that unit. It is the individual’s responsibility to affiliate and if no recognized unit is found the individual will not be able to participate. Affiliation means that the unit or individual will be under the control of\, camp with\, be inspected by and fall in for battle with that recognized unit. The event Commanders and organizers will make the final determination if a registration is accepted. \n\nAll safety regulations will be strictly enforced through a provost and/or appropriate safety personnel. Any violation of these rules will be grounds for an individual or unit to be removed from the field.\nAnyone under the age of 13 will not be permitted on the Battlefield. NO EXCPTIONS!\nNo one under the age of 16 will be permitted to carry a rifle on the field.\n\nGettysburg Reenactment Impression Standards\nThe Gettysburg Civil War Battle Reenactment is a very special and significant commemorative event for the reenactment community\, the visitor\, and the Gettysburg community. The eyes of the nation and the world are upon us. In order to promote event integrity and honor\, and to respect your fellow reenactors and provide an accurate portrayal to the public\, the organizers\, and military command request your cooperation by heeding the following authenticity standards:[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read Impression Standard Details”] \n\nAll clothing must accurately represent the fashion and style of 1863\, e.g.\, natural fibers\, period cut and color.\nModern plastic glasses frames are not permitted.\nNo modern shoes and no sneakers.\nNo specialty impressions without the approval of the event sponsors. This includes portrayals of Lee\, Jackson\, Lincoln\, Grant\, Clara Barton\, etc. If you have any doubts\, please ask.\nWomen portraying soldiers in the ranks should make every reasonable effort to hide their gender. Hundreds\, if not thousands\, of women passed themselves off as men in order to serve as soldiers during the war—on both sides\, and we will never know exactly how many did so because their disguises were so good. Honor them. If any Army or event volunteer (as above) determines the female gender at not less than 15 feet\, that individual will be asked to leave the field/ranks.\nHair should be worn as appropriate to 1863.\nAs a compromise to modern safety\, a minimum number of period MILITARY or Hospital Ice Angels (2-3) will be permitted on the battlefield for each authorized battalion. Each Ice Angel must be at least 16 years of age. Proper uniform will be required. Dresses for the ladies will not be allowed on the field.\nDo not wear any uniforms or insignia that would not have appeared at Gettysburg.\nThe classic “campaigner” impression is suitable for this event. Shoes shall be worn! Failure to do so will result in removal from the event.\nA dirty musket is rarely\, if ever\, appropriate and may\, in fact\, constitute a safety violation.\nAll anachronisms (cots\, coolers\, sweat pants\, etc.) must be hidden inside tents at all times. Your camp is not only your reenactment home; but is also a significant living history experience for both your fellow reenactors and visitors.\nTobacco use shall be confined to period products—pipes\, cigars\, snuff\, chew or\, in rare cases\, filter-less cigarettes.\nThe event organizers\, and respective military commanders\, have final authority regarding authenticity issues.\nRead all Reenactor Rules\nSee all registered reenactors\n\n[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nReenactor Registration\nYou can register online\, or download a form and mail your registration in. Only Period tents are permitted in the Village. \nAbout the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment\nEach June\, picturesque Old Bedford Village plays host to the clash of the Blue and the Gray during their annual Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment and Living History event. \nOld Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment Mini Gallery\n\n \nWhile America’s deadliest war never actually reached the town of Bedford\, as General Robert E Lee’ Confederate Army invaded Pennslyvania in the summer of 1863\, the threat facing this area was very real. Just north of Bedford near the town of Loysburg\, a network of defensive trenches dug to protext Loysburg Gap survives to this day. The trenches were occupied in June of 1863 as residents of the area feared the invasion could target the farms and livestock of Morrison’s Cove and the railroad in Altoona to support Confederate troop in the field. \nEach year\, the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment features hundreds of reenactors from state across the region. These living historians have a true passion for the Civil War time period they portray\, and have spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours researching what and where to obtain the equipment and knowledge needed to portray the life of the common soldier serving in that war. \nDuring the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment\, visitors can visit the camp sites of soldiers serving in both the Union and Confederate armies. They can witness what camp life was like\, learn how the soldiers passed the time when they weren’t marching or fighting\, and speak with the reenactors (and don’t worry\, they do like to talk about this favorite topic). Civilian life is also represented as many women and children also attend the event in period attire. Each afternoon a battle reenactment will unfold\, and visitors will have the opportunity to see first-hand the sights\, sounds\, and smells of battle. No history book or television documentary can give a viewer as realistic an experience as attending a Civil War reenactment in person. \nWhat makes the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment even more special is the Village itself. Because of the many original 17th and 18th century structures on site\, Old Bedford Village truly presents the image of a town that ha been overrun by two great armies\, with residents forced from their homes as soldiers move in\, camp in their yards\, and procure their food and livestock. Visitors can tour the building. Some will be occupied by the reenactors while others will feature Old Bedford Village’s skilled tradesmen and artisans who can explain their craft such as blacksmithing\, spinning and weaving\, tin smithing\, candle making and more. \nAbout Old Bedford Village\nCross the Claycomb covered bridge and step back in time to the 18th century at Old Bedford Village. Stroll through the Village of over 36 period workshops and log cabins for a real immersion experience. Call in on our period clothed crafts men and women\, learn about Bedford’s historic past…allow time for a light snack in the Village Tavern\, perhaps a horse and buggy ride around the Village? Be sure to check out dates for our special events on our website at www.oldbedfordvillage.com If you’d like a new way to look at history\, come see a historical reenactment at Old Bedford Village\, we’ll get you so close to the past\, you’ll be able to touch\, smell and hear it! Open Memorial day to Labor day Mon-Sun 9am-5pm Closed Wednesdays Sep to Oct: Thurs\, Fri\, Sat & Sun 9am – 5pm. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment & Living History in Bedford\, Pennslyvania. \nTags: Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment\, Old Bedford Village Civil War Days\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

On May 28\, 1861\, Col. George Porterfield and his Confederate troops arrived in Philippi\, where they camped or were quartered in town. Neighbors and families were already divided on the question of secession. There were at least 750\, if not upwards of 2\,000 troops. At daylight on June 3\, two columns of Union forces\, with perhaps 3\,000 men\, arrived from Grafton under the command of Col. Ebenezer Dumont and Col. Benjamin Kelley. A Union victory\, it was the first organized land action of the war\, though generally viewed as a skirmish rather than a battle. \nMistaking a pistol shot by a Mrs. Humpreys on the hill above the town as a signal to start the battle\, the Union troops fired on the Confederates with two brass six-pound Napoleon cannons. The Confederates routed to a big rock south of town and departed in good order to Belington and ultimately to Beverly. \nThe Original Blue and Gray Renuion\nOn June 3\, 1911 the first “Home Coming Week” ever held in Barbour County of the “Blue and Gray Soldiers” who participated in the 1861 battle was held. The program included speeches\, band concerts\, “public talks by Old Soldiers”\, entertainment\, fireworks\, parachute jumps\, parades\, a hot-air balloon ascension\, and a “Sham Battle conducted by the State Militia.” In 1988\, the City of Philippi published a “Call to Arms” to plan for an annual Blue & Gray Reunion to begin the first week of June\, 1989. \nBlue and Gray Reunion – Battle of Philippi Reenactment Mini-Gallery\n\n \nToday’s reunion includes Sutlers and crafts tents\, a parade\, encampments for re-enactors from both sides of the war\, artillery and small arms demonstrations\, a choir concert\, Civil War Ball\, and of course\, a re-enactment of the first land battle of the Civil War. \nPublic Welcome – Free Admission \nLocation: Downtown Philippi\, WV \nFor More Information\nMail: PO Box 911\, Philippi\, WV 26416\nPhone: 304-457-3773\nEmail: information@blueandgrayreunion.org\nPhilippi area contact: CVB at 304-457-3700 \nBlue and Gray Reeunion Featured Events (subject to change)\n(Check daily schedules for day and time) \n\nHorse and Buggy Parade\nWalking History (for adults) joining Kids’ Day\nPickin’ Porch – all weekend on Courthouse Square\nOpening Ceremonies – Thursday\nGrand Opening and Blue & Gray Community Choir\nHorse and Buggy Parade\nKids’ Day/Walking History – Friday\n25-30 Learning Stations\nVisit with General Stonewall Jackson\nGrand Parade\n5K Race\nKayak and Stand Up Paddle Board Races\nPie Contest at the Gazebo\nCivil War Ball\nConfederate and Union Camps open for the public\nReenactment – First Land Battle of Civil War\nReenactment-Hanger Amputation\nCrafters Park and Food Vendors on Courthouse Square\nLive entertainment – at the Gazebo all weekend; Soon after\, Mexican authorities named Graham’s wild settlement “Roaring Camp.” Roaring Camp is nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains in the Town of Felton\, California. Located just six miles up the hill from Santa Cruz lies a re-creation of an 1880’s logging town\, operating trains every day of the year except for Christmas Day. Roaring Camp is a heritage railway with authentic 1880’s steam locomotives operating on our Redwood Forest Steam Train excursion and 1920’s era Beach Trains to Santa Cruz. \nIn 1842\, Graham established the first saw mill west of the Mississippi. Fortunately\, the Big Trees here were spared the woodman’s axe\, and the area’s first railroad\, the Santa Cruz & Felton\, began carrying tourists to the Big Trees and the beach in 1875\, with the Santa Cruz\, Big Trees & Pacific RY has been operating along the 1875 Santa Cruz & Felton route since 1985. \n \nMark you calendar for the annual Roaring Camp Civil War Battles and Encampment in Felton\, California next Memorial Day Weekend. \nTags: Roaring Camp Civil War Battles and Encampment\, Roaring Camp Civil War Battles & Encampment\, Roaring Camp Civil War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

Fishing\, salvaging wrecked ships and cigar manufacturing became the driving economic forces behind the island’s growth making Key West the richest city in Florida in the 1890s. The U.S. Army began construction of Fort Taylor\, named for President Zachary Taylor\, in 1845. With secession and the beginning of war in 1861\, Fort Taylor remained under federal control — one of only three fortresses in Florida to do so — and served as the headquarters for the Federal Navy’s East Gulf Coast Blockading Squadron staying on ‘active duty’ status through 1947. Today\, the fort is a National Historic Landmark containing the largest cache of Civil War-era seacoast cannons in the U.S. \nCannon and Arches\nUnion troops took control of Fort Zachary Taylor early in the Civil War and maintained it through the duration of the war. They made use of the fort’s impressive artillery\, including 10-inch Rodman and Columbiad cannons to detain blockade-running ships seeking to supply the Confederacy. In 1968\, a large supply of Civil War-era guns and ammunition were discovered in the Fort’s buried arsenal. In fact\, Fort Zachary Taylor held the largest collection of Civil War-era cannons in the United States. \nFort Moat\nSoon after the park opened to the public\, a contractor began the process of digging a moat around the fortress. There were two reasons for the project. One was to prevent easy entry into the structure. The other was to give the illusion of the fort in its early days\, surrounded by water. The end result was an attractive division between the fort and the beach and sea beyond. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Taylor Living History Weekend on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month at Historic Fort Taylor in Key West\, Florida. \nTags: Fort Taylor Living History Weekend\, Fort Zachary Taylor Living History Weekend\, Ft Taylor Living History Weekend \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

During Old Clinton War Days\, historic Clinton comes alive with the sights and sounds of Civil War Georgia\, a reminder of its occupation by Union soldiers during the March to the Sea. Clinton was the early seat of Jones County between 1808 and 1905. \n\nOld Clinton War Days\nBring the family and come join us for Old Clinton War Days when historic Clinton\, Jones County’s courthouse town from 1808-1905\, comes alive with the sights and sounds of Civil War Georgia! Each day at 2 pm\, re-enactors recreate one of two battles in the County fought in the last months of 1864–the battles of Sunshine Church and Griswoldville. \nThe event takes place in the Old Clinton National Historic District\, a site on the March to the Sea Heritage Trail. Re-enactors occupy their authentic camps on grassy fields in the town–be sure to pay them a visit. Soldiers from grizzled veterans to beardless recruits\, both blue and gray\, stroll and march through the town. The rattle of musketry and the rolling thunder of cannons shakes windows in old homes\, just as it did in July and November 1864 when the battles occurred and Union troops occupied the town. \nThe c. 1809 McCarthy-Pope House\, furnished and decorated by the Ladies of the Confederacy\, is open for tour. Miss Anniefs Store\, set up as an 1800s mercantile establishment\, also displays a variety of war relics\, including a prize-winning exhibit of Griswold pistol parts and a finished Griswold pistol. \nTake a stroll to see the antebellum houses\, c. 1821 Methodist Church and\ncemetery\, Pine Ridge Museum housed in an 1889 one-room schoolhouse\, and the mid-19th century Clinton law office slated for restoration. \nThere are demonstrations of crafts of the era\, gmodernh arts and crafts for sale\, and modernh as well as food of the period available. \nSaturday’s program will conclude at 8:05 p.m. with the 16th Georgia\, Company G\, Jackson Rifles\, CSA conducting a memorial service in the Old Clinton Cemetery to honor Clinton’s Confederate dead. \n \nAdmission:\n$5 adults\n$3 ages 6-18\nFree ages 5 and under. \nSchedule\nSaturday\nCamps Open 10:00 a.m.\nKids Mock Battle 12:30 p.m.\nBattle Reenactment 2:00 p.m.\nMemorial Service (Clinton Methodist Church) 8:00 p.m. \nSunday\nCamps Open 10:00 a.m.\nSunday in Camp Church Service 11:00 a.m.\nKids Mock Battle 12:30 p.m.\nBattle Reenactment 2:00 p.m. \nDIRECTIONS: Clinton is located 12 miles NE of Macon\, 1-½ miles SE of Gray\, one block west off US Hwy 129. \nFor More Information:\nOld Clinton Historical Society: 478-607-0365; cpkrom@gmail.com\nEarlene Hamilton OCHS 478-251-6745\nCol.
