The Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment is sponsored by the Friends of Fort Harrod and is the Park’s signature event each year and promises to be bigger and better than ever before! \n\nOld Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid\nMany reenactors and volunteers work hard to re-create the actual look and feel of a real Shawnee attack upon Fort Harrod which might have occurred in March 1777. It began a year long seige on the Fort during which many settlers would die violent deaths. The Shawnee killed or stole all of the settlers livestock and burn their crops. The year of 1777 became known as the “Year of Despair” and one can only imagine the terror and hardships the settlers in the Fort had to endure. But\, the Fort held\, attack after attack. Had it not\, there would have been no Harrods Town\, no Harrodsburg and no State of Kentucky. \nFort Harrod was never overrun. At one point they nearly ran out of gun powder which gave rise to the famous “Powder Run” by George Rogers Clark\, James Harrod and others to obtain the much needed powder. They were successful and the Fort was saved! \nIn addition to the Raids reenactment\, the Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment living history\, colonial music\, cannon fire and Native attacks on the fort. Colonial entertainers will perform all weekend. After the portrayal of this historic battle and what could have been here at Harrod’s Fort the public will be invited to the Native village to watch the adoption ceremonies for the women and children as they could have been carried out if Harrod had fallen. Over 14\,000 men and women mustered into service for the Union Army at this site in which 1\,480 did not return to Michigan buried in the battle field cemeteries in the South. Historic Fort Wayne is one of a handful of star forts left in the US. The Fort is also one of few remaining sites\, in Michigan\, where soldiers from the Civil War trained. \n \nAbout The Historic Fort Wayne Coalition\nThe Historic Fort Wayne Coalition is dedicated to preserving the history of Michigan men and women who served their country between 1845 and 1973 who either sent material to or personally passed through Historic Fort Wayne as a place of induction to United States military service. We are busy helping the Fort’s caretakers\, the City of Detroit Recreation Department with this effort in two major ways. First\, we present high quality events that provide ways for the public to enjoy Historic Fort Wayne and see glimpses of how it would have looked when it was garrisoned. We are also very busy preserving and restoring as much of the structures and facilities as possible on the Fort grounds. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Historic Fort Wayne Colonial Days in June at Fort Wayne in Detroit\, Michigan. \nTags: Historic Fort Wayne Colonial Days\, Colonial Days at Historic Fort Wayne\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

It was built in what is now Perrysburg\, Ohio\, on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River rapids. Ground was broken on February 2\, 1813 under the orders of General William Henry Harrison\, who wanted to fortify the region. Throughout the next three months professional soldiers and militiamen alike persevered through cold winter weather and mud that would at times be knee-deep. Despite horrid weather and disease in the camp\, the American army was able to complete Fort Meigs by the end of April\, 1813\, just in time for a British attack. Begin your journey in the Fort Meigs Visitor Center. Purchase tickets to explore the fort or shop the museum store. The administrative offices\, museum\, education center\, restrooms and vending machines are all found in the Visitor Center. All visits to Fort Meigs begin and end here. The first weekend in June\, Fort de Chartres State Historic Site hosts the largest rendezvous in Illinois or the Midwest with over a thousand participants\, hundreds of encampments\, and thousands of visitors joining in on the festivities. Based on the traditional French fur trapper’s rendezvous where trappers and traders would meet at a predetermined location to trade furs for necessities\, these rendezvous were the highlight of the fur trapper’s year and now the Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous is the highlight of Fort de Chartres’s extensive calendar of historical events and activities. \n\nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous\nThe Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous offers participants and visitors alike a glimpse into the period from 1740-1840\, a part of Illinois’ past when it was governed not only by France but by Great Britain and the United States as well. Costumed reenactors portray a variety of personas including colonial military units\, mountain men\, Native Americans\, settlers\, merchants\, and more. Historical demonstrations are located at various locations on the grounds and there are periodic demonstrations that include period music\, military drills\, and musket and cannon competitions. \n@ Fort de Chartres State Historic Site\, at 1350 IL Route 155\, 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher. The event is open and free to general public with special event parking for this event just $5 a car. Donations welcomed. For more information contact the site at (618) 284-7230 or email lesamisdufortdechartres@gmail.com. \nThe two-day popular Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous features shooting competitions\, military drills\, dancing\, music\, food\, and traders of eighteenth-century-style goods. The boom of cannons\, the smell of campfires and a parade of colorful uniforms will transport visitors back to the 1700s. The Rendezvous features 18th century military units\, traditional craft demonstrations\, period music and dancing\, black powder shooting events and cannon firings – all from the time when France controlled what is now Illinois. Visitors can try their hand at throwing a tomahawk\, buy hand-made crafts\, learn about French kitchen gardens\, and watch swordsmen duel\, taste delicious food and much more. \nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous Mini-Gallery\n[/fusion_gallery]\n \nAs Fort de Chartres is an Illinois Historic Preservation Agency site\, there is a wide variety of interpretive activities that can be found throughout the grounds. These activities run continuously throughout both days. In the Native Crafts area\, visitors can learn first hand the arts of bow and arrow making\, hide tanning\, basket weaving\, the use of native foods and herbs\, pottery\, the construction of wigwams\, and the history of how and why the fur trade became such an important frontier industry. There are also archery demonstrations and competitions. \nThe Colonial Area features demonstrations that include spinning\, dyeing\, the use of looms\, woodworking\, weaving\, quilting\, rope making\, coopering\, and blacksmiths. Located in the Fort buildings themselves are a French Patron (River Boatman\,) a French Marines quarters\, a Jesuit missionary in the Fort’s Chapel\, and the Piethman Museum. A French Colonial garden\, oxen\, and baked goods for sale from a working stone oven can be found near the demonstration areas. Throughout the grounds are demonstrations by independent merchants illustrating their skills\, and displaying and selling their creations. \nFort de Chartres began as a French military outpost. The reconstructed stone fort represents the third fort built by the French\, the first two wooden forts having been destroyed by the Mississippi River. It was this stone fort that the French turned over to the British in 1765 after the end of the French and Indian War. The British abandoned this fort\, moving their territorial headquarters to the nearby town of Kaskaskia. The abandoned stone fort was visited by George Rogers Clark during his expedition during the Revolutionary War. Representing this military tradition are a number of military reenactment units and marching bands representing all three colonial powers. Rifle\, musket\, and artillery competitions are all part of the scheduled programs. \nPeriod music can be found at any time during Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous. A center stage is set up within the fort and features various musical groups throughout the day. Many of these groups can be found entertaining visitors throughout the grounds when they are not featured on the main stage. In addition marching military bands with drums\, flutes\, bagpipes\, and other instruments can be seen patrolling the grounds. \nHundreds of tents\, teepees\, and other primitive shelters become the weekend home for the over one thousand reenactors who come to the Fort De Chartres June Rendezvous from across the country. Visitors can gain a lot of insight into the life styles of the fur trapping era by exploring the Primitive Camp. The reenactors are a friendly bunch and are happy to talk about the specifics of their camp and the personas they portray. Sutlers\, merchants\, and trade blankets are located throughout the grounds selling many period related goods that are only available at this type of event. \n \nLocation\nFort de Chartres State Historic Site\n350 State Route 155\nPrairie du Rocher\, IL 62277\nDirections: 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher\, about an hours drive south of St. Louis. Celebrate Memorial Day weekend in patriotic fashion with the Princeton Battlefield Society as they present a day of encampment and the Battle of Princeton reenactment with the Second Pennsylvania Regiment. “Washington Returns!” relives Gen. Hugh Mercer’s Jan. 3 1777 attack on the British and the Red Coats’ counter-attack. The Battle of Princeton Reenactment will include pipes and drums\, musket and cannon fire\, marching drills\, tactical formations\, camps and the arrival of Gen. George Washington. \n\nBattle of Princeton Reenactment\nAbut the Battle\nThe battle\, though small\, is considered a turning point in the American Revolution. It was the culmination of the 10-day campaign that began with George Washington’s Hail Mary pass – the crossing of the Delaware. Washington had lost 90 percent of his army\, but he managed to convince his men to stick around a few more weeks and at Princeton they saw the first victory over the British on a battlefield. The modest success provided the momentum that the Continental Army so desperately needed. \nPlaying such a pivotal role in the war\, it may surprise visitors to know that\, in 2012\, the National Trust for Historic Preservation named the battlefield among its 11 most endangered historic places. \nReenactment Schedule (subject to change)\nSchedule of Selected Events\n11:30 AM – Site Opens/Muster of the Troops\n11:30 AM – Battlefield Tour\n11:45 AM – Artillery Firing Demonstration\n12:00 AM – Understanding the Uniform & Musket\n12:15 PM – Young Patriots Training Muskets & Marching\n12:30 PM – General Washington Arrives\n12:45 PM – Battlefield Tour\n1:00 PM – Infantry and Artillery Demonstrations\n2:00 PM – General Washington Answers Questions\nRain or shine \nCome Early\, Stay Late\nWhile the battle is reenacted in the early afternoon and lasts only about an hour\, a huge part of the fun is in coming early to visit the encampment to see hundreds of reenactors playing their parts\, including cavalry and artillery demonstrations and women making preparations for battle. Your family can join a guided tour of the encampment or wander on your own\, even asking questions of the reenactors. \nChildren’s Drill: After the Battle of Princeton Reenactment will be a children’s drill with wooden muskets. It pitted two groups of North Carolinians against each other. There were approximately 2\,000 backcountry farmers called Regulators and around 1\,000 militia troops (citizen soldiers) under the command of Royal Governor William Tryon involved in the two-hour battle. Having officers\, a battle plan\, and more weaponry (which included eight cannon)\, the royal governor and his men easily defeated the ill-prepared Regulators. Governor Tryon reported that nine of his men were killed and sixty-one wounded in the military engagement. Although undetermined\, the Regulator casualties would end up being much greater. It is possible that as many as 100 Regulators may have been killed. The Battle of Alamance officially ended the so-called Regulator movement that began in the 1760’s.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nUnfair taxation\, dishonest and corrupt government officials\, and the lack of representation were all serious concerns of the Regulators. In most cases\, government officials (sheriffs\, clerks of court\, registers of deeds\, etc.) attained their positions through appointments by men in power\, not by elections involving the citizenry of the colony. The Regulators sought a better regulation of these government officials and more control of their own affairs. Geographical\, social\, and economic factors all had effects on the Regulator movement. \nAlthough the Battle of Alamance was not the first official battle of the American Revolution\, it did provide some valuable insight for revolutionaries as discontent with British rule continued to increase. For the approximately 6\,000 Regulators who took the oath of allegiance to the Crown\, many of them remained loyal to England during the War for Independence. Some of the militia serving under Governor Tryon\, who gained valuable military experience at the battle\, would end up fighting against the British. Richard Caswell\, the first man to serve as governor of the state of North Carolina\, was one of those to serve in the militia and later become an integral part of this country’s independence movement.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Alamance Reenactment: Fight for the Backcountry in May at the Alamance Battleground State Historic Site in Burlington\, North Carolina. \nTags: Battle of Alamance Reenactment\, lamance Battle Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

By hosting an event such as Drummers Call\, Colonial Williamsburg is able to display and educate its guests about the importance of Fife and Drum units from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The annual event has become one that welcomes new units each year\, while relying on a “core” of Corps to participate. \nWhat is a Military “Tattoo”?\nThe Tattoo was originally a piece played by the fifers and drummers of military units to announce the time to return to camp for the evening. Loosely translated from a Dutch phrase\, “Turn the Taps To”\, meaning the taverns were to close for the evening (turn their taps off). \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Drummers Call at Colonial Williamsburg in Williamsburg\, Virginia. \n \nTags: Drummers Call at Colonial Williamsburg\, Williamsburg Fife and drum corps muster\, revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Drum & Fife Corps Events

Witness history come alive as hundreds of living historians re-enact life at Joseph Martins frontier fort. Watch as two cultures clash and the flames of war are once again ignited on Virginia’s frontier. Activities include tours of Cherokee Warrior and Colonial Militia camps\, frontier fort life\, and 18th century merchants and colonial traders selling their wares. Various seminars on 18th century topics will be conducted by world renowned historians and lecturers. Frontier battles between the natives and the settlers highlight the Raid at Martin’s Station reenactment at 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. War is imminent! \n\nMartin’s Station Reenactment\nThe Raid at Martin’s Station reenactment can be better described as an “on-going living history demonstration” rather than a “reenactment” by its usual definition. While the event is hosted and coordinated by the Wilderness Road State Park\, the Friends of Wilderness Road sponsor the event. The activities associated with the Raid and trade fair are the combined efforts of the local civic\, community\, and school groups\, 18th century suttlers and merchants\, and various military and native reenactment groups. \nAdmission: $10 per vehicle ($4 on Sunday) \nSchedule of Events (Subject to Change) \nDaily Events (Friday & Saturday – Ongoing)\nOpen Hearth Cooking * Militia Drill * Blacksmithing * Colonial Surveying * 18th Century Market Farie * Cherokee Camp * Hide Tanning * Spinning and Weaving *\nArtillery Firing * Musket Firing * 18th Century Music * Candle Making \nSaturday\n10:00 am Sons of the American Revolution Historical Observance (Visitor’s Center)\n10:15 am Program – Developing your Historic Persona\n11:00 am Seminar – To be announced\n1:00 pm Battle Reenactment (Martin’s Station*)\n2:00 pm To be announced\n3:15 pm Seminar – To be announced\n4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Seminar (hourly) – To be announced\n8:30 pm Night Battle Reenactment (Martin’s Station*) \nSunday\n10:00 am 18th Century Church Services (Martin’s Station)\n11:00 am Seminar – To be announced\n1:00 pm Program – To be announced\n2:30 pm Lowering of the Colors (Martin’s Station)\n* Visitors must move out of historic area during battle reenactments for safety. \nLocation\nHistoric Martin’s Station at Wilderness Road State Park\n8051 Wilderness Road\nEwing\, VA 24248 \nFor More Information: 276-445-3065 WildernessRoad@dcr.virginia.gov \nHistory of Martin’s Station\nThe original Martin’s Station played a relatively short but significant part in the history of southwestern Virginia and the early settlement of Kentucky. The station takes its name from Joseph Martin\, who led the expedition that identified that tract of land where they erected a stockaded fort\, some crude cabins\, and planted a corn crop. These efforts at settlement proved to be useless\, as an Indian attack occurred in the fall of 1769 and the station was abandoned. Joseph Martin would not be long absent from the station\, and in January 1775 returned to Powell’s Valley with a party of 16 or 18 men who built a more permanent station. As the last fortified station along the Wilderness Road prior to reaching the new lands being opened in Kentucky\, Martin’s Station was a well-known stop for the early settlers. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Raid at Martin’s Station reenactment at the Wilderness Road State Park in Ewing\, Virginia. \nTags: Martin’s Station Reenactment\, Martin’s Station \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events\nView other Market Fair & Trade Fair Events

Visit time: Allow 15-25 minutes for the standard Mansion tour\, depending on the number of guests each day; 60 minutes for the premium Mansion tour. The Mansion of George Washington’s Mount Vernon is one of the most iconic 18th-century homes in America. \nGeorge Washington’s beloved Mount Vernon began as a one and one-half story house built in 1735 by his father\, Augustine\, and received its well-known name during the ownership of his half-brother Lawrence. George acquired Mount Vernon in 1754\, and over the next 45 years slowly enlarged the dwelling to create the resplendent 21-room residence we see today. Washington personally supervised each renovation; advising on design\, construction and decoration—even during the Revolutionary War. Conscious that the world was watching\, Washington selected architectural features that expressed his growing status as a Virginia gentleman planter and ultimately as the leader of a fledgling democratic nation. \nThe Chintz Room\nAfter several years of research\, work\, and collaboration with colleagues and craftsmen throughout the country\, the restoration and refurnishing of the Chintz Room\, formerly known as the Nelly Custis Room\, is complete. \nMansion Outbuildings\nLook inside more than a dozen outbuildings where many of the estate’s essential operations—such as laundry\, spinning\, and meat curing—were performed. Demonstrations occur daily at our working blacksmith shop. Visit time: 30 minutes. Mount Vernon’s historic outbuildings house the many important trades that sustained the bustling plantation. \nIn the latter half of the eighteenth century\, Mount Vernon was the home\, farm\, and thriving business of one of America’s most prominent citizens. The essential operations of the plantation were performed in numerous buildings scattered throughout the estate. Washington built these vital workspaces during the 1760s-1790s\, in his ongoing pursuit of economic independence and financial success. \nFisheries and the Potomac River\nEach spring\, when fish began running past Mount Vernon’s ten-mile shoreline\, everyone dropped everything and headed to the river to haul in more than a million fish in a matter of weeks. \n16-Sided Barn\nLearn more about Washington’s innovative barn complex at Dogue Run. \nBlacksmith Shop\nBlacksmithing was an important craft activity throughout most of the Washington family’s ownership of the Mount Vernon plantation. The earliest known reference to a shop dates to 1755. \nSutler Application\nhttp://s3.amazonaws.com/mtv-main-assets/files/resources/revolutionary-war-weekend-2018–sutler-registratio.pdf[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Revolutionary War Weekend at Mount Vernon on the first weekend of May at George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Mount Vernon\, Virginia. \nTags: Revolutionary War Weekend at Mount Vernon\, Revolutionary War Weekend\, Revolutionary War Weekend at George Washingtons Mount Vernon\, Revolutionary War Weekend at Mt Vernon\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment at Mount Vernon \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

While the original fort that Lancaster Lupton built has long been gone\, a dedicated group of individuals began in 2003 to reconstruct the fort. The reconstructed Fort Lancaster\, as it was known in its original period of operation\, 1836-1844\, was completed and dedicated in 2011.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nA visit to Lancaster Lupton’s trade fort is an experience of going back in time to when an individual with a vision and entrepreneurial spirit took risks to establish a trade enterprise on the wild prairie along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Lancaster Lupton first came to the area with a military expedition in 1835. By 1836 Lupton had resigned his commission and was bringing skilled craftsman and labor from the Mexican village of Taos north to build his trade fort. By 1837-38 he was trading with the Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes. Come see his trade fort and walk through the inner plaza to visit the blacksmith and carpenter shops\, living quarters\, kitchen and food preparation rooms\, trade rooms\, cantina and storage room with historic artifacts.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nAbout South Platte Valley Historic Park\nHistoric Fort Lupton (aka Fort Lancaster) and South Platte Valley Settlement Historic Park encompasses 97 acres of land along the South Platte River just northwest of the city of Fort Lupton\, Colorado. The land consists of a large natural and camping area immediately along the river and a high bench of land where the original Fort Lancaster was located.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nAlong the river\, in groves of cottonwood trees are camping areas that can be used by Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops with reservations. These camping areas are also used by the re-enactment department of the SPVHS – the Tallow River Trappers – to hold periodic rendezvous events. Immediately along the river are nature areas that are home to deer\, turkey\, foxes and other animals and birds. At the north end of the historic park is a muzzleloading shooting range leased by the Fort Lupton Muzzleloading Club. \nStart your tour of the historic park at the re-creation of Fort Lancaster\, which was in operation from 1836 to 1844. Move down the path and see the restored trapper cabin from the 1850s\, which was originally located down along the Platte River in Adams County. Moving further down the path\, your will see both the Independence School built in 1875 and the Donelson homestead house built in the 1860s. The Donelson House and the Independence School represent the settlement of the Platte Valley started by the early fur trappers and traders.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nTags: Fort Lupton Heritage Fair\, Colorado History Festival\, History Timeline\nDon’t miss the next Fort Lupton Heritage Fair at the South Platte Valley Historic Park in Fort Lupton\, Colorado. Period reenactors set up tents\, don period dress and live as Clark and his troops lived — and they invite the public to interact with history. It’s really a way for the reenactors to share their knowledge and their love of history with visitors\, who can come and see history firsthand\,” Williams said. \nAbout Historic Locust Grove\nHistoric Locust Grove is located in Louisville\, Kentucky. Sitting high above the Ohio River the house was built in 1792 by William Croghan and his wife Lucy Clark Croghan. It was a bustling household that often became a gathering place for the other Clark siblings including both General George Rogers Clark and William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery and the many nieces and nephews of the large extended family. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Locust Grove Revolutionary War Encampment at Historic Locust Grove in Riverwood\, Kentucky in April. \n \nTags: Locust Grove Revolutionary War Encampment\, Revolutionary War Encampment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

Patriots’ Path: Steps to Revolution is an original short play that uses historical records to portray Littleton’s citizens in the shift from loyal British subjects to American revolutionaries. The Littleton Historical Society brings local history to life with a cast of local residents portraying actual men and women of Littleton who lived 250 years ago through the tumultuous events leading up to the Revolution. \nSome were Tories loyal to the crown; others were Patriots who protested British attempts to revoke their rights as colonists. One woman who was enslaved yearned for the freedoms others took for granted. As the story unfolds\, characters reveal their feelings and tell about the impact these events had on their lives and those of their families. \nFriday\, March 29th\, 7:30 pm \nFree Admission \nLocation\nFirst Church Unitarian\n19 Foster Street\nLittleton\, MA 01460 \nSponsor\nLittleton Historical Society\nCall (978) 486-8202\nEmail littleton.histsociety@verizon.net\nWebsite \nDuring the decade between 1764 and 1775\, colonists who were once loyal subjects of the British Empire and had fought with British troops in the French and Indian War made life-changing decisions to became Patriots who\, little more than 10 years later\, fought in the Revolution against the British. There will be time after the performance to ask questions and share ideas. The discussion will be moderated by Susan Harvey\, member of the High School faculty\, and Roland Gibson\, retired educator. \nThe Society thanks the Littleton Cultural Council for its support. We would also like to thank the First Church Unitarian for providing the venue; LCTV and its director\, Mark Crory; members of the Color Guard of the Boxborough Minutemen\, and members of the 1st Regiment of the Foot Guards; and cast and crew of Littleton residents who generously gave their time and effort to the production. \nThe performance is in conjunction with the Paths of Patriots Project of Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area. The program is supported in part by a grant from the Littleton Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. \nThe Program is free and open to the public. The Church is handicapped accessible. Parking is available at the lot in back of the Fire Department across the street; and is also available at 300 King Street\, just a short walk from the Church. Information is also available on www.littletonhistoricalsociety.org and the Littleton Historical Society’s facebook page. \nThis program is supported in part by a grant from the Littleton Cultural Council\, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council\, a state agency. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the Littleton Historical Society presentation of the Patriots’ Path: Steps to Revolution play at the First Church Unitarian in Littleton\, Massachusetts. \nTags: Patriots Path Steps to Revolution\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

Located in the valley of the Little Tennessee River\, near the Appalachian Mountains\, Fort Loudoun State Historic Area provides a glimpse of life during the time of the French and Indian War (1754-1763). The future of the North American continent was in the balance as armies from France\, Spain and England fought for control of this land and it’s vast resources. Native Americans were caught up in this struggle as they strove to protect their homes and way of life. Fort Loudoun (1756-1760)\, in the heart of the Overhill Cherokee country\, played a part in that conflict which eventually laid the foundation for our nation we live in today.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThe fort was reconstructed during the Great Depression and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The Fort Loudoun State Historic Park features a visitor center/museum\, reconstructed Fort Loudoun\, and stabilized ruins of Tellico Blockhouse (1794-1807). Fort Loudoun was constructed by the British Colony of South Carolina to ally the Overhill Cherokee Nation in the fight against the French and to guarantee that trade would continue between the Cherokee and South Carolina. \nBut relations between South Carolina and the Cherokee Nation broke down and the Cherokee captured Fort Loudoun and its garrison. It is thought that the Cherokees destroyed the fort shortly thereafter. The blockhouse served as a gateway (with passes required) into Cherokee land\, a trading post\, and a factory to teach new skills to the Cherokees. \nPicnic tables\, fishing pier\, hiking trails and boat dock are available. Boat launching ramps are available off site. The Historic Area hosts many seasonal events\, such as Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekends with reenactors\, an 18th Century Trade Faire\, and student field trips.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n\nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Loudoun Colonial Trades Garrison in March at historic Fort Loudon State Park in Vonore\, Tennessee. \nTags: Fort Loudoun Colonial Trades Garrison\, Colonial Trades Garrison\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

Johnston County Colonial Militia Reenactors and others\, in character as Patriot and Loyalist troops\, will drill\, fire their weapons and demonstrate period crafts such as blacksmithing\, candle-dipping and powder horn making. It has been nearly 250 years since a large Loyalist Militia\, mostly Scottish Highlanders wielding swords\, charged over a partially dismantled bridge and into the darkness\, only to be met by the flashes and sounds of muskets and cannons booming in the distance. Patriot forces walked away that day victorious\, and word would soon spread all across the divided British American colonies of this glorious victory. \n\nBattle of Moores Creek Bridge Reenactment\nHelp us celebrate what is considered to be one of the first Patriot victories of the American Revolution and see history come to life. Over the course of the two-day celebration\, visitors will be treated to stories and demonstrations of 18th-century military and colonial life and trades. Weekend activities will include\, but not limited to: \n\nPatriot and Loyalist Militia Encampments with cooking\, dummy musket drills for the public\, weapon displays\, and storytelling.\nMusket and cannon demonstrations.\nArtisan Craft and Trade Exhibits and Demonstrations\, to iclude: Cooking\, Beverages\, Woodworking\, Blacksmithing\, Medicine\, Dentistry\, Candle Making\, Gardening\, Surveying\, Toys and Games\, Hornworks\, Sutlers\, Music\n\nWreath Laying begins Battle of Moores Creek Bridge Reenactment Program\nThe program begins at 10 a.m. Saturday when members of the Moores Creek Battlefield Association will lay a wreath at the monument to John Grady\, the only Patriot (or “Whig”) killed in the battle. Little did they know that nearly one thousand Patriots waited for them on the other side. In what would be the last broadsword charge by Scottish Highlanders\, The Battle of Moores Creek Bridge was a pivotal battle in the Revolutionary War. This first significant victory for the Patriots in the American Revolution ended the British threat to North Carolina until late in the Revolutionary War. Some historians claim it emboldened North Carolinians to pass the Halifax Resolves on April 1\, 1776\, urging the province’s delegates to the Continental Congress to seek independence from Great Britain. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Moores Creek Bridge Reenactment in February at the Moores Creek National Battlefield in Currie\, North Carolina. \nTags: Battle of Moores Creek Bridge Reenactment\, Moores Creek Bridge Battle Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

In November 1775\, Washington sent a 25 year-old bookseller-turned-soldier\, Henry Knox\, to bring heavy artillery that had been captured at Fort Ticonderoga to Boston. Knox knew the challenge before him as he wrote to George Washington on December 5\, 1775. \nThe garrison at Ticonderoga is so weak\, the conveyance from the fort to the landing is so difficult\, the passage across the lake so precarious\, that I am afraid it will be ten days at least before I can get them on this side. When they are here\, the conveyance from hence will depend entirely on the sledding; if that is wood\, they shall immediately move forward; without sledding\, the roads are so much gullied that it will be impossible to move a step. \nIn a technically complex and demanding operation\, Knox began the “Noble Train” in January 1776 at Ticonderoga and carried sixty tons of artillery through the dead of winter to Boston in just forty days. In March 1776\, these artillery pieces were used to fortify Dorchester Heights\, overlooking Boston and its harbor and threatening the British naval supply lifeline. The British commander William Howe\, realizing he could no longer hold the town\, chose to evacuate it. He withdrew the British forces\, departing on March 17\, for Halifax\, Nova Scotia thus giving Washington his first great victory of the war. \nFort Ticonderoga is the location of the first Knox Trail marker in the Knox cannon trail that traces the route of the Noble Train. The Fort Ticonderoga Museum owns 2 original artillery pieces that made the epic journey in the winter of 1776. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Colonel Knox is Now at Ticonderoga at Fort Ticonderoga in December in Ticonderoga\, New York. \nTags: Colonel Knox is Now at Ticonderoga\, Henry Knox\, Noble Train Begins\, Fort Ticonderoga Noble Train\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \n[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events\nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\, History & Living History Daily Demonstrations

It was also known as Mud Island Fort because it sits on Mud Island (also known as Deep Water Island) on the Delaware River near the Philadelphia International Airport. During the American Revolutionary War\, the British Army bombarded and captured the fort as part of their conquest of Philadelphia in autumn 1777. \nDuring the siege\, 400 American soldiers held off more than 2\,000 British troops and over 250 ships that had been responsible for launching an endless barrage of cannonballs into the fort. After five days of holding off the British\, the American troops evacuated the fort after having successfully denied the British Navy free use of the Delaware River. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Siege of Fort Mifflin Reenactment on the second weekend of November at Fort Mifflin on the Delaware in Philadelphia\, Pennslyvania. \n \nTags: Siege of Fort Mifflin Reenactment\, Fort Mifflin on the Delaware\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Siege of Fort Mifflin Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

The Red Horse Tavern\, sitting along the Boston Post Road\, the major east-west route to and from Boston and New York\, was crucial in that anyone or anything travelling into or out of Boston to/from the west would have to pass by its door. Which ever side controlled the Tavern could control the flow of supplies\, troops and information. \n \nAdmission: Free and open to the public.\nHours: 11:30 am – 4:00 pm\nParking: In the designated parking area for the reenactment. \nFor more information contact colonel@sudburyminutemen.org. \nThe Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment is sponsored by the 4th King’s Own\, the Sudbury Companies of Militia and Minute and our hosts at the Wayside Inn. \nAbout Longfellow’s Wayside Inn (Red Horse Tavern)\nLongfellow’s Wayside Inn\, a nationally significant Massachusetts Historic Landmark\, is the oldest Inn still operating in the United States and has been serving travelers along the old Boston Post Road for almost 300 years. What began as a two-room home in 1707\, the Howe family ran a successful tavern and innkeeping business on this site from 1716 to 1861. \nFrom its Colonial roots as an important stagecoach stop\, to Henry Ford’s historic preservation of the property as a living museum of American history from 1923 to 1945\, the Wayside Inn offers a unique experience of history. The Inn is the perfect backdrop for your own memory-making occasions\, as well as a unique casual touring and educational destination. \nPart of the Wayside Inn Historic Site\, Longfellow’s Wayside Inn offers informative exhibits as well as atmospheric dining and guest rooms for the visiting public. The Inn serves breakfast\, lunch\, and dinner to compliment your exploration of the property’s 125 scenic acres. \n \nOur Reenactor Friends\nThe Inn appreciates the involvement of the following community organizations who regularly come to the Inn either for historic activities\, special events\, or to work with the Inn on special projects such as the Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment. \nThe Sudbury Companies of Militia & Minute are historical interpreters of the Colonial Period\, specifically for the American Revolution during 1775 in Sudbury\, Massachusetts. They preserve American heritage and educate the public through reenactments\, performances\, speaker events\, a monthly muster\, a Colonial Faire\, parades\, and other educational\, fun events. \nThe Fourth Middlesex Regiment is a living history group dedicated to public education about the Revolutionary War era (1770–1780). These woman did such a wide variety of things and we want to bring this richness to our hobby. From learning to use weapons to defend our homes\, to researching and portraying women as they were in all ways of life\, we hope to bring a more vibrant and realistic portayal of women to the Revolutionary War re-enactment hobby. \nThe Old North Bridge Hounds is one of 11 hunt clubs in New England. ONBH is registered with the Masters of Foxhounds Association (MFHA)\, and is run in accordance with the standards and guidelines of MFHA. ONBH engages in drag hunting\, not live foxhunting.
