More than 100 booths with re-enacters demonstrating early frontier skills and merchants selling period wares. Entertainment on site such as strolling musicians\, puppet shows\, jugglers\, oxen demonstration and more. \n\nSpirit of Vincennes Encampment & Rendezvous\nThis US revolutionary war reenactment offers all the sights\, smells\, sounds and tastes of the 18th century. Join 400 to 500 reenactors along with 35\,000 visitors for this unforgettable weekend. For years\, local community members have put on this annual two-day event that features hundreds of merchants\, artisans\, entertainers\, and colonial reenactors who bring the Revolutionary War to life on the French Commons. \nThere will be artillery demonstrations\, battle reenactments\, fife and drum corps marching through the grounds\, a stage filled with music\, and even a cozy corner under a tree to hear lectures to learn more about the time period. Many mercantile craftsmen demonstrate their skills from their tents\, roaming entertainers will tickle your funny bone\, and the smell of locally cooked food will tempt your belly. \nLocal civic groups provide fare for the Spirit of Vincennes Encampment\, cooked fresh on the grounds over an open flame. Celebrate Memorial Day weekend in patriotic fashion with the Princeton Battlefield Society as they present a day of encampment and the Battle of Princeton reenactment with the Second Pennsylvania Regiment. “Washington Returns!” relives Gen. Hugh Mercer’s Jan. 3 1777 attack on the British and the Red Coats’ counter-attack. The Battle of Princeton Reenactment will include pipes and drums\, musket and cannon fire\, marching drills\, tactical formations\, camps and the arrival of Gen. George Washington. \n\nBattle of Princeton Reenactment\nAbut the Battle\nThe battle\, though small\, is considered a turning point in the American Revolution. It was the culmination of the 10-day campaign that began with George Washington’s Hail Mary pass – the crossing of the Delaware. Washington had lost 90 percent of his army\, but he managed to convince his men to stick around a few more weeks and at Princeton they saw the first victory over the British on a battlefield. DESCRIPTION:2019 Battle of Alamance Reenactment: Fight for the Backcountry\n\nRate This Event\n \nWitness history at the annual Battle of Alamance Reenactment: Fight for the Backcountry on May 18-19\, 2019 at Alamance Battleground State Historic Site in Burlington\, North Carolina. Experience North Carolina’s internal power struggle on the eve of revolution! On May 16\, 1771 when a group of rebellious backcountry farmers who called themselves “Regulators” met the loyalist militia of Governor William Tryon in open battle. “Fight for the Backcountry” will feature a recreation of the Battle of Alamance\, and will explore life in the backcountry in the early 1770s\, as the American colonies stood on the brink of revolution. \n\nBattle of Alamance Reenactment\nThe weekend program at the Battle of Alamance Reenactment will feature a battle reenactment\, military drills\, artillery and musket drills\, and an audience with Colonial Gov. William Tryon. There will be demonstrations from cooks\, tradespeople and a colonial era surgeon. The Sons of the American Revolution will share a Patriots Day Commemoration Ceremony. There will be an Anglican Church service Sunday morning\, denoting the powerful Church of England. \nThe Battle of Alamance Reenactment recaptures the scene of the conflict that involved almost 2\,000 backcountry farmers facing 1\,000 royal militia at the Battle of Alamance of May 16\, 1771. Known as Regulators because of a desire to regulate public officials\, the colonists were poorly trained and outgunned. It pitted two groups of North Carolinians against each other. There were approximately 2\,000 backcountry farmers called Regulators and around 1\,000 militia troops (citizen soldiers) under the command of Royal Governor William Tryon involved in the two-hour battle. Having officers\, a battle plan\, and more weaponry (which included eight cannon)\, the royal governor and his men easily defeated the ill-prepared Regulators. Governor Tryon reported that nine of his men were killed and sixty-one wounded in the military engagement. Although undetermined\, the Regulator casualties would end up being much greater. It is possible that as many as 100 Regulators may have been killed. The Battle of Alamance officially ended the so-called Regulator movement that began in the 1760’s.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nUnfair taxation\, dishonest and corrupt government officials\, and the lack of representation were all serious concerns of the Regulators. In most cases\, government officials (sheriffs\, clerks of court\, registers of deeds\, etc.) attained their positions through appointments by men in power\, not by elections involving the citizenry of the colony. The Regulators sought a better regulation of these government officials and more control of their own affairs. Geographical\, social\, and economic factors all had effects on the Regulator movement. \nAlthough the Battle of Alamance was not the first official battle of the American Revolution\, it did provide some valuable insight for revolutionaries as discontent with British rule continued to increase. For the approximately 6\,000 Regulators who took the oath of allegiance to the Crown\, many of them remained loyal to England during the War for Independence. Some of the militia serving under Governor Tryon\, who gained valuable military experience at the battle\, would end up fighting against the British. DESCRIPTION:2019 Siege at Fort Watauga\n\nRate This Event\n \nExperience the excitement at the 25th Annual Siege at Fort Watauga on May 19-20\, 2018 at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park in Elizabethton\, Tennessee. Each year on the 3rd weekend in May\, hundreds of Colonial\, British\, and Native reenactors converge at the re-created Fort Watauga at Sycamore Shoals to relive the days when America’s first frontier was the land beyond the blue ridge. Several Revolutionary War living history units will be in attendance and will make the 18th century come to life during the weekend. \n\nSiege at Ft. Watauga\nThe Siege at Fort Watauga is a live retelling of the Cherokee attack brought on the settlers of the Watauga valley in the summer of 1776. At Sycamore Shoals\, Fort Watauga offered protection to nearly 200 settlers during a two-week siege led by Cherokee War Chief\, Old Abram\, and 300 warriors. Numerous other individuals also participate in the event portraying many 18th century walks of life including Cherokee Natives\, Backcountry Hunters\, Farmers\, Housewives\, African Slaves\, Commoners and Gentry. \nImmerse yourself in 18th century frontier life as you witness daily aspects of colonial culture. The station takes its name from Joseph Martin\, who led the expedition that identified that tract of land where they erected a stockaded fort\, some crude cabins\, and planted a corn crop. These efforts at settlement proved to be useless\, as an Indian attack occurred in the fall of 1769 and the station was abandoned. This year’s fair is expected to be bigger and better than ever. The Annual Fort Lupton Heritage Fair takes place on the first Saturday of May\, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Admission is only $5.00 per car for the fair. The reconstructed Fort Lancaster\, as it was known in its original period of operation\, 1836-1844\, was completed and dedicated in 2011.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nA visit to Lancaster Lupton’s trade fort is an experience of going back in time to when an individual with a vision and entrepreneurial spirit took risks to establish a trade enterprise on the wild prairie along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Lancaster Lupton first came to the area with a military expedition in 1835. By 1836 Lupton had resigned his commission and was bringing skilled craftsman and labor from the Mexican village of Taos north to build his trade fort. By 1837-38 he was trading with the Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes. Come see his trade fort and walk through the inner plaza to visit the blacksmith and carpenter shops\, living quarters\, kitchen and food preparation rooms\, trade rooms\, cantina and storage room with historic artifacts.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nAbout South Platte Valley Historic Park\nHistoric Fort Lupton (aka Fort Lancaster) and South Platte Valley Settlement Historic Park encompasses 97 acres of land along the South Platte River just northwest of the city of Fort Lupton\, Colorado. The land consists of a large natural and camping area immediately along the river and a high bench of land where the original Fort Lancaster was located.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nAlong the river\, in groves of cottonwood trees are camping areas that can be used by Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops with reservations. These camping areas are also used by the re-enactment department of the SPVHS – the Tallow River Trappers – to hold periodic rendezvous events. Immediately along the river are nature areas that are home to deer\, turkey\, foxes and other animals and birds. At the north end of the historic park is a muzzleloading shooting range leased by the Fort Lupton Muzzleloading Club. \nStart your tour of the historic park at the re-creation of Fort Lancaster\, which was in operation from 1836 to 1844. Move down the path and see the restored trapper cabin from the 1850s\, which was originally located down along the Platte River in Adams County. Moving further down the path\, your will see both the Independence School built in 1875 and the Donelson homestead house built in the 1860s. The William Diamond Junior Fife and Drum Corps\, host organizaton\, invites you to the annual Lexington Tatoo and Muster which once again will be held at Minute Man National Historical Park in Lexington\, MA. \n\nLexington Tatoo and Muster – Hosted by William Drummond Junior Fife and Drum Corps\nAdmission is Free – Rain or Shine Event \nOn Friday evening\, there will be a short tattoo at 7:00 p.m. followed by a jam session. Step off for a parade of reasonable duration is Saturday at 12:00 noon. The Lexington Muster performances will immediately commence\, followed by a second jam session. A complementary muster meal will be offered. In addition to the fife & drum corps\, we will have vendors\, jam sessions\, and a parade. The Littleton Historical Society brings local history to life with a cast of local residents portraying actual men and women of Littleton who lived 250 years ago through the tumultuous events leading up to the Revolution. \nSome were Tories loyal to the crown; others were Patriots who protested British attempts to revoke their rights as colonists. One woman who was enslaved yearned for the freedoms others took for granted. Located in the valley of the Little Tennessee River\, near the Appalachian Mountains\, Fort Loudoun State Historic Area provides a glimpse of life during the time of the French and Indian War (1754-1763). The future of the North American continent was in the balance as armies from France\, Spain and England fought for control of this land and it’s vast resources. Native Americans were caught up in this struggle as they strove to protect their homes and way of life. Fort Loudoun (1756-1760)\, in the heart of the Overhill Cherokee country\, played a part in that conflict which eventually laid the foundation for our nation we live in today.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThe fort was reconstructed during the Great Depression and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. The Fort Loudoun State Historic Park features a visitor center/museum\, reconstructed Fort Loudoun\, and stabilized ruins of Tellico Blockhouse (1794-1807). Fort Loudoun was constructed by the British Colony of South Carolina to ally the Overhill Cherokee Nation in the fight against the French and to guarantee that trade would continue between the Cherokee and South Carolina. \nBut relations between South Carolina and the Cherokee Nation broke down and the Cherokee captured Fort Loudoun and its garrison. It is thought that the Cherokees destroyed the fort shortly thereafter. The blockhouse served as a gateway (with passes required) into Cherokee land\, a trading post\, and a factory to teach new skills to the Cherokees. \nPicnic tables\, fishing pier\, hiking trails and boat dock are available. DESCRIPTION:2019 Battle of Moores Creek Bridge Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \nJoin area residents to celebrate the Battle of Moores Creek Bridge Reenactment on February 23-24\, 2019 at the Moores Creek National Battlefield in Currie\, North Carolina. Johnston County Colonial Militia Reenactors and others\, in character as Patriot and Loyalist troops\, will drill\, fire their weapons and demonstrate period crafts such as blacksmithing\, candle-dipping and powder horn making. It has been nearly 250 years since a large Loyalist Militia\, mostly Scottish Highlanders wielding swords\, charged over a partially dismantled bridge and into the darkness\, only to be met by the flashes and sounds of muskets and cannons booming in the distance. Patriot forces walked away that day victorious\, and word would soon spread all across the divided British American colonies of this glorious victory. \n\nBattle of Moores Creek Bridge Reenactment\nHelp us celebrate what is considered to be one of the first Patriot victories of the American Revolution and see history come to life. Over the course of the two-day celebration\, visitors will be treated to stories and demonstrations of 18th-century military and colonial life and trades. In November 1775\, Washington sent a 25 year-old bookseller-turned-soldier\, Henry Knox\, to bring heavy artillery that had been captured at Fort Ticonderoga to Boston. Knox knew the challenge before him as he wrote to George Washington on December 5\, 1775. \nThe garrison at Ticonderoga is so weak\, the conveyance from the fort to the landing is so difficult\, the passage across the lake so precarious\, that I am afraid it will be ten days at least before I can get them on this side. When they are here\, the conveyance from hence will depend entirely on the sledding; if that is wood\, they shall immediately move forward; without sledding\, the roads are so much gullied that it will be impossible to move a step. \nIn a technically complex and demanding operation\, Knox began the “Noble Train” in January 1776 at Ticonderoga and carried sixty tons of artillery through the dead of winter to Boston in just forty days. In March 1776\, these artillery pieces were used to fortify Dorchester Heights\, overlooking Boston and its harbor and threatening the British naval supply lifeline. The British commander William Howe\, realizing he could no longer hold the town\, chose to evacuate it. He withdrew the British forces\, departing on March 17\, for Halifax\, Nova Scotia thus giving Washington his first great victory of the war. \nFort Ticonderoga is the location of the first Knox Trail marker in the Knox cannon trail that traces the route of the Noble Train. This two day event is a commemoration of the 1776 British invasion of New Jersey and the beginning of the Continenttal Army’s strategic “Retreat to Victory” is held each year at Fort Lee Historic Park on the weekend closest to the historic date of November 20. It includes reenactments of eighteenth-century life and weapon and battle demonstrations. \n\nRetreat Weekend at Fort Lee Historic Park\nThe march (retreat) begins at the site of Washington’s encampment in what is now Fort Lee Historic Park and travels to Main Street and Monument Park. Reenactors from the Brigade of the American Revolution hold a musket demonstration and gun salute followed by a hot cider and donut reception for both reenactors and the public at the adjacent Fort Lee Museum. \nRevolutionary Encampment at Fort Lee\nMembers from over a dozen Living History groups will commemorate the Anniversary of the British Invasion of New Jersey at Fort Lee Historic Park. Each year\, the Redcoats and Minutemen return to the grounds of the Red Horse Tavern (now named the Wayside Inn) to “battle for control of the key spot of the Boston Post Road.” Be here to witness the Battle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment which features several hundred reenactors from all over the region portraying American\, British and French soldiers from America’s War for Independence as they engage in two different battle scenarios for the public on the ample grounds of Longfellow’s Wayside Inn. \n\nBattle of the Red Horse Tavern Reenactment\nStart the day by listening to colonial music\, talking with reenactors\, visiting with sutlers\, observing cannon firing demonstrations and more. Then watch as the Colonial and British armies engage in a fictional battle for control of the Red Horse Tavern. \nEighteenth century taverns were important in the Colonies as a place to hear the news and other current events\, engage in commerce\, conduct militia drills and provide respite for weary travelers. These woman did such a wide variety of things and we want to bring this richness to our hobby. From learning to use weapons to defend our homes\, to researching and portraying women as they were in all ways of life\, we hope to bring a more vibrant and realistic portayal of women to the Revolutionary War re-enactment hobby. \nThe Old North Bridge Hounds is one of 11 hunt clubs in New England. ONBH is registered with the Masters of Foxhounds Association (MFHA)\, and is run in accordance with the standards and guidelines of MFHA. ONBH engages in drag hunting\, not live foxhunting. In 18th-century military life\, fifes and drums served as one of the primary modes of battlefield communication and camp regulation. \n \nHistory of the Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drum Corps Fort Ticonderoga formed its first Fife and Drum Corps in 1926 on the eve of the 150th anniversary celebrations of American Independence. The Corps performed at the Fort each summer until the beginning of World War II. When the World’s Fair came to New York City in 1939\, the Fife and Drum Corps was a featured performer on May 10th\, Fort Ticonderoga Day celebrating the 164th anniversary of the capture of the Fort by Ethan Allen\, Benedict Arnold and the Green Mountain Boys. \nIn 1973\, in preparation for the bicentennial\, Fort Ticonderoga revived the Fife and Drum Corps to perform daily during the museum campus’ summer season. The Corps consists of four units: the Field Music; Knowlton’s Connecticut Rangers; Capt. Stephen Buckland’s Artillery; and the Company of Artificers. The musicians are attired in the regimental uniform of Col. Charles Webb’s 19th Connecticut Regiment of Foot in which unit Capt. Nathan Hale served in 1776. Their commitment to authenticity has resulted in their having won the coveted recognition from the Company of Military Historians. Several of the muskets carried by the Rangers are actual Brown Bess Tower Muskets\, not reproductions! \nAbout the Nathan Hale Homestead \nThe Nathan Hale Homestead is the birthplace of Connecticut’s State Hero\, Nathan Hale\, who was hanged as a spy during the Revolutionary War. DESCRIPTION:2018 Fort Ticonderoga Defiance and Independence: 1777 Battle Re-enactment\n\nRate This Event\n \nExperience Fort Ticonderoga Defiance and Independence: 1777 Battle Reenactment on July 20-22\, 2018 for a three-day battle re-enactment highlighting the climactic summer of 1777 as its American garrison was outflanked by a British invasion force descending from Canada. Highlighted programming featured throughout the weekend brings to life the surprising American retreat and British capture of Fort Ticonderoga in early July 1777. Experience the fog of war and smoky haze of battle as the American and British armies maneuver across this historic landscape. This two-day battle re-enactment will dramatically show how General Arthur St. Clair decided to evacuate Ticonderoga set the stage for British General John Burgoyne. \nFort Ticonderoga Defiance and Independence takes place Saturday and Sunday\, 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. Admission to this re-enactment event is included in a Fort Ticonderoga’s general admission ticket. \n \nA Defining Story Brought to Life: During the Fort Ticonderoga Defiance and Independence reenactment\, visitors will witness the intensity of battle as American soldiers retreat back from their entrenched camp under the intense British drive to capture the fortifications. They will discover the diverse forces that comprised this campaign and meet with soldiers of the two armies including the Royal Artillery\, the Rear Guard\, and the Continental Artillery. \nThis living history event and battle recreation will re-enact a careful chess game between the British Army and an entrenched Continental Army at Ticonderoga. Reprieved from a siege in 1776 by the onset of winter\, Fort Ticonderoga and Mount Independence faced General John Burgoyne’s northern army of British\, Loyalist\, and German soldiers in July 1777. General St. Clair’s rearguard of Massachusetts and New Hampshire regulars and militia put up a vigorous defense\, skirmishing in the hills and valleys around Ticonderoga. Artillery batteries built into the old French Lines seemed to keep the British army at by. Concealed by forest cover on the back slope of Mount Defiance\, British cannon were dragged to the summit. By July 6\, 1777\, British cannon high up on Mount Defiance\, aimed at the pontoon bridge between the two Forts of Ticonderoga and Independence\, forced the withdrawal of General St. Clair’s rearguard into the Hampshire Grants (Vermont). \n \nWhere a Goat Can Go\, A Man Can Go! Saturday evening at 6:30 pm a gun crew from the Royal Artillery will haul their cannon to the summit of Mount Defiance\, aiming at the Fort located below. Guests can witness the incredible feat and discover the details of this decisive stroke and witness a cannon demonstration in the evening light of the beautiful summit. There will be demonstrations of some of the traditional colonial and frontier skills. SUMMARY:Morgans Victory March Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:2018 Morgans Victory March Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \nJoin us for the annual Morgans Victory March Reenactment on January 13-14\, 2018\, taking the route of Daniel Morgan and his Flying Army on a two-day 25 mile walk that will begin at Grindal Shoals\, near Pacolet\, and end at the Cowpens National Battlefield. The reenactment takes place on the weekend in January that is closest to the original date of January 15-16\, 1781. \nOn the March we relive Morgan’s activities during the two-day race with the enemy while also planning how to use his soldiers to win a great victory at a place called the Cowpens. Hikers and bikers (non-motorized) may go the entire route or choose only the segments that interest them. Horseback riders are welcome to participate as horses add to the excitement along the route. Reenactors and historians will describe what was happening at that time over 200 years ago as the militia units were mustering and moving to help Morgan’s Continentals defend their homeland against British invaders. \nTwo Day March: The first leg of the march is about 13 and one half miles. The Sunday portion\, ending at the Cowpens National Battlefield\, is about 11 and one half miles. \nRegistration is required: Marchers should pre-register with the Town of Pacolet (864-474-950) or email eharris@townofpacolet.com. Marchers will be asked to sign a waiver of liability for the sponsors and landowners located along the route. There is no charge for marcher but donations will be accepted. \nTransportation: It is not necessary that you walk the entire distance. There will be horse drawn wagons and carriages for those that prefer not to walk. \nMarchers should wear warm clothes suitable for the weather and bring their own snacks. The marchers will see the beautiful country from Grindal Shoals to Cowpens National Battlefield. The Morgans Victory March is a great way to get an idea how the weather\, natural conditions\, and distance helped shape how the Victory of Cowpens turned out! \nOn this weekend tour\, we will march along the same route at about the same pace that Morgan used as he moved his army on January 15th and 16th in 1781. This year the National Battlefield will award a “Morgan’s Flying Army” medal to first-time marchers that complete the entire route! \nDuring Morgans Victory March\, reenactors and historians will describe what was happening in 1781 as the militia units were mustering and moving to help Morgan’ Continentals defend their homeland against the British invaders. \nStarting Location Grindal Shoals\, South Carolina https://goo.gl/maps/QDua9NhqQ6C2 Geo Coordinates: 34°53’18.5″N 81°38’35.4″W\, \nMorgan and Grindal Shoals  Until just the morning before Tarleton crossed at Easterwood\, General Morgan and his little army had been camped at Grindal Shoals\, just 5 miles downstream from Easterwood and about 7 miles from the Pacolet Mills bridge. Morgan and his army had arrived at Grindal Shoals on Christmas Day\, about three weeks before. On the night of Jan. 14\, Morgan had received word that Tarleton and his army were coming after him. The next morning\, on Jan. 15\, Morgan had started his army on the march in an effort to get away from the British. His army marched up the Green River Road. Today\, some of that road is known as the Asbury Highway or Hwy 211. His army entered the Asbury Highway portion just beside where Wagstop Plantation is located today. After a few miles\, they turned right on the part of the Green River Road that is known today as “Goucher School Road”. This is just before where Knuckles Chapel Church is located today. \nJust one day behind them\, the British army marched up the Quarter Round Road until they too came into the Green River Road at an intersection near to the present location of Knuckles Chapel. Now\, both armies were on the same road to their deadly meeting at Cowpens. \nEnding Location Cowpens National Battlefield 338 New Pleasant Road Gaffney\, SC 29341 (864) 461-2828 \nThe Battle of Cowpens was a very important American victory against overwhelming odds. The Battleground is about 9 miles northwest of Cowpens. The American General Daniel Morgan did all he could do to get away from the British army under Tarleton. As we have seen at Easterwood and Grindal Shoals\, the British army was just moving too fast for Morgan to get away. Morgan realized that Tarleton was going to catch him. He decided to stop and fight him at a place of his own choosing rather than to let Tarleton catch his army as it was crossing the Broad River only five miles away. \nMorgan planned a brilliant strategy for the battle that is still studied in Military Schools to this day. The battle was fought in the early morning on January 17\, 1781 and barely lasted an hour. It was a complete Patriot victory over the British army. The Patriot forces under General Morgan crushed and destroyed the British army. SUMMARY:Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats
DESCRIPTION:Join the ranks at the Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats on June 3-4\, 2017 at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown\, New York.  At the annual Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats event\, British and American troops from all of the Northeast\, Midwest and Canada converge on Old Fort Niagara to animate the fort as it was during the American Revolution. The event features living history camps\, musket and artillery demonstrations and large scale battle reenactments. \nThroughout the Old Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats weekend event\, there will be hands-on activities for children\, including 18th century games; presentations of map-making\, surveying\, military engineering and fortification; changing-of-the-guard ceremonies; demonstrations of soldier life; and 18th century merchants. \nAmong the reenactment units will be the Northwest Department of the Brigade of the American Revolution\, a nonprofit living history association dedicated to recreating the lives of the common American Revolution soldier\, and the 1st Regiment of Light Dragoons from the North West Territorial Alliance. \nOld Fort Niagara Rebels and Redcoats programs run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $12 for adults\, $8 for children 6-12 and free for kids 5 and under and fort members. \nThere is no extra charge for this event but general admission tickets are required.
