The Powwow allows us to join with other First Nations from across Canada and the United States to share in this great gathering\, it also allows visitors from many nations to participate in this exciting cultural experience. \nEnjoy and take part in the ‘fastest dance on two feet’\, with our Iroquois Smoke Dancers. This dance got its name back when the people would dance around the fire pit causing air to circulate\, and thus helping the fire embers ignite. \nIt is our hope that this time spent together at the Akwesasne Powwow will bring us to a better understanding of one another and foster a strong bond of peace and friendship with our neighbours of all cultures. \nThe gates to the Akwesasne Powwow open to the public at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday and the festivities start with a spectacular grand entry at noon with all the beautifully dressed dancers. You will have an opportunity to purchase some home made Native food and enjoy a cool strawberry drink or lemonade\, while you browse through the vendors area to find that one of a kind keepsake. \nAdmission:\n$12 Weekend Pass\n$8 General Admission\n$5 Ages 6-12\nFree – Under 5 & 65+\nParking – Free \n\nAkwesasne Powwow: 2016 Men’s Smoke Dance Special\nHours: \n10:00 – Gates Open to Public\nNoon – Grand Entry; Dance & Drum Competions throughout the day. \nPowwow Head Staff\nHOST DRUM: To Be Announced\nEMCEE: To Be Announced\nCO-EMCEE & SMOKE DANCE SINGER: To Be Announced\nARENA DIRECTOR: To Be Announced\nSMOKE DANCE JUDGE: To Be Announced\nTRADITIONAL DANCE JUDGE: To Be Announced\nDRUM JUDGE: To Be Announced\nHEAD VETEREN: To Be Announced\nHEAD FEMALE DANCER & HEAD MALE DANCER: will be chosen per session \nLocation\nA’Nowara’Ko Wa Arena\n36 Arena Road\nAkwesasne\, Ontario Canada K6H 5R7\n(613) 931-1448 \n\nAkwesasne Powwow: 2017 1st Day Intertribal Dancing\nPassports Required\nAll travellers entering Canada from the United States are required to report directly to the CBSA (Canada Border Services Agency) border crossing in the city of Cornwall as required under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Customs Act. It is also a chance for our non-Indian friends and families to take part in inter-tribal dancing as a Powwow is considered a cultural sharing event for all to learn about Native Americans and share ideas and information. \nThe circle is an important symbol to Indian cultures because it symbolizes the continuation of life. To the Native American people\, life is never ending\, like the circle. The Powwow brings the circle of the people closer together – closer to their community and their culture. Powwows today are still very much a part of the lives of modern Indian people. The Powwow season runs from March to September or later. Competiive singing and dancing for prize money is a fairly recent change in the traditiona Powwows. Only registered contestants can participate in the dancing contests.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Kahnawake Pow Wow at the Kahnawake Mohawk Territory only 10 miles south of Montreal\, Canada on the second weekend of July. \nTags: Kahnawake Pow Wow\, Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow Wow\, Kahnawake Powwow\, Echoes of a Proud Nation Powwow\, Kahnawake Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow Wow\, Montreal Powwow\, Montreal Pow Wow\, Canada Pow Wow\, Canada Powwow \nView other Canada Powwows

No alcohol or drugs be permitted. Make sure to RSVP on Facebook and let your friends know that you are attending. \nWhat is Lehal?\nLehal is an ancient First Nation’s game which consists of two opposing teams. There are two pairs of “bones”\, one pair with a stripe and one without. The game also uses a set of scoring sticks (usually ten) and in some areas a “kick” or “king” stick—an extra stick won by the team who gets to start the game. The game is usually accompanied by drumming and singing used to boost the morale of the team. The side that has the bones sings\, while the other tries to guess. The musical accompaniment is also sometimes used to taunt the other team. Players and spectators may place bets on teams\, or individual matches within the game between one guess and the other team’s bone hiders. \nThe entire weekend is free to the public and held at the Chief William Campsite and Arbor\, Williams Lake Indian Band. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Chief William Fathers Day Pow Wow on Father’s Day Weekend at the Chief Will-Yum Campsite and Arbor in Williams Lake\, BC Canada. \n \nTags: Chief William Fathers Day Pow Wow\, Chief William Fathers Day Powwow\, Canada Powwow\, Canada Pow Wow \nView other Canada Powwows

Most of these ceremonies were kept private\, like the feasts and fasting until a visiting Elder\, Sylvestre YoungChief told the group to start sharing with the community and reaching out. \nIn 2002 through a grant for homelessness\, Nin Os Kom Tin ran an outreach project to determine community needs. They also began in 2005 to hold an Annual Aboriginal Day Celebration in Fairy Lake Park\, Newmarket. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Nin Os Kom Tin Aboriginal Celebration in June at Fairy Lake in Newmarket\, Ontario\, Canada. \nTags: Nin Os Kom Tin Aboriginal Celebration\, Nin Os Kom Tin Pow Wow\, Nin Os Kom Tin Celebration\, Nin Os Kom Tin Powwow\, Canada Pow Wow\, Canada Powwow\, Ontario Pow Wow\, Ontario Powwow \nView other Canada Powwows

A lot of people plan their vacations around the Powwow\, and new people people discover it every year. At the Listuguj Powwow in 2016\, over 500 people were fed moose\, salmon and fiddleheads on Saturday alone. Being able to feed everyone is their way of thanking those who come and support the community in general\, and the Listuguj Powwow in particular. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sf5_Oh_lt8&width=650&height=400&[/embedyt] \nListuguj Powwow\nThe whole weekend runs on volunteers. Whether it’s in the weeks and months leading up to it\, or those filling all the small\, but demanding jobs. Everything from making coffee to directing traffic needs someone giving up their time. Keeping people hydrated alone requires over 170 cases of water\, which had to be requested — and donated — from local businesses. The Powwow belongs to the community\, and has been successful because people have stepped forward each year and offered their help. Since 1957\, the event has attracted hundreds of dancers and participants\, and thousands of visitors each year\, to the Piikani Nation Arbor at Crowlodge Park. As Canada’s oldest powwow event\, the Piikani Nation Powwow features everything from a parade to dance competitions\, drum and hand drum contests\, IFCA rodeo horse racing\, softball\, a golf tournament\, and even a princess pageant. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyGjfC2X92o&width=650&height=400&[/embedyt] \nPiikani Nation Powwow and Celebration\nThe Piikani Nation Powwow started from the idea by a couple of people who had gone to the States and seen a reserve do something like this\, and so they brought it back home to Piikani\, making us the first reserve in Canada to have the first “Indian Days Celebration”. The name eventually changed to “The Piikani Nation Annual Celebration”. Most reserves in Canada now have this type celebration. \nThe current dance arbour was first used in 2013. Not only the bleachers being able to hold hundreds of people\, but also the floor where people could place their own chairs\, having this state of the art arbour was a highlight of that year’s celebrations. \nGrand Entries\nFriday 7:00 p.m.\nSaturday 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.\nSunday 1:00 p.m. & 7:00 p.m.\nRegistration Opens Friday 3:00 p.m. \nPowwow Head Staff\nPowwow Chair: To Be Announced\nMaster of Ceremonies: To Be Announced\nArena Directo: : To Be Announced\nTabulation: C&T Tabulating \nDance & Drum Contests \nDrum Payout: First 4 Places\nDrum Split for non-placing Hand Drum Contet: 1 Entry per Group \nDance Contests: Prize Money for first 3 places\nJunior Adults 18-39\nSenior Adults 40-59\nGolden Age 60+ and Buckskin\nTeens 13-17\nTiny Tots: To be paid daily\nSpecials: To Be Announced \n \nCamping\nCamping & shower facilities on site with 24-hour security. \nLocation\nPiikani Nation Arbor\nCrowlodge Park\nBrocket T0K 0H0\, Alberta\, Canada\nGeo Location: 49.540020\, -113.757430\nDriving Map Link to Dance Arbor \nFor More Information: 403.965.2985 ptks@piikanination.com \nAbout the Piikani Nation\nThe Piikani First Nation is a small reserve in the corner of southern Alberta. In the wide-open Prairies countryside between Lethbridge and Waterton Lakes National Park\, it’s no prime tourist destination\, but thousands flock to it for the annual Piikani Nation Powwow. \nFeatured Piikani Nation Powwow Events Include:\n* Free Breakfasts\n* IRCA Rodeo\n* Horse Racing\n* Softball\n* Handgames/Stick Games\n* Golf\n* Iron Man & Woman Special\n* Parade on Sunday \nMore About the Piikani Nation Powwow for Participants & Visitors\nIRCA Rodeo\nThis far into southern Alberta\, you really can’t find many summer events without horses. The Piikani Nation is no exception\, in addition to the music\, dancing and hand games\, and parade\, the Piikani Nation Powwow includes a rodeo with barrel racing\, steer riding and breakaway roping. \nTraditional Dancing\nEach dance requires special regalia. With bells on their dresses\, these three are heading to perform the women’s jingle dress dance. All age groups participate in specific dances\, including the fancy\, traditional\, jingle dress\, old style chicken and grass dances. \nTeepee Camp\nDon’t expect a forest of teepees (tipis). Many visitors opt for trailers or hotel rooms. But a few traditional tents make up the scene with staple southern Alberta wind turbines towering in the background. \nPowwow Attire\nThe dancers’ outfits\, decorated with bones\, bells or feathers\, have intricate designs. The beautiful handcrafted items can take years to make. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Piikani Nation Powwow and Celebration at Crowlodge Park in Brocket\, Alberta\, Canada. \nTags: Piikani Nation Powwow and Celebration\, Piikani Nation Pow Wow and Celebration\, Piikani Nation Powwow\, Piikani Nation Pow Wow\, Canada Powwows\, Canada Pow Wows\, Piikani Powwow\, PiikNi Pow Wow \nView other Canada Powwows
