Fort Frederick was built in 1756 to defend the frontier against French and Indian raiding parties coming east from the French Fort Duquesne\, in what is now Pittsburgh. Fort Frederick is unique because of its strong stone wall\, large size\, and roomy barracks. Fort Frederick also saw service during the American Revolution as a prison for British soldiers. \nFor the next 131 years\, the fort and surrounding lands were farmed. During the Civil War\, Union troops were often stationed near the fort to guard the C & O Canal. In 1922\, the State of Maryland acquired the fort. During the Great Depression of the 1930s\, a company of the Civilian Conservation Corps restored the fort and began development of the state park. In 1975\, the park reconstructed two soldier’s barracks inside the fort. These barracks are open seven days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on the weekends in the spring and fall. During those times\, staff and volunteers dressed in 18th century clothing occupy the fort\, demonstrating daily life in the 18th century. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Frederick French and Indian War Muster at Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool\, Maryland. \nTags: Fort Frederick French and Indian War Muster\, French & Indian War Muster\, Fort Frederick French & Indian War Muster\, French and Indian War Muster \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

The opening of western Pennsylvania to settlement was the result of a decisive victory over the Native Americans at the Battle of Bushy Run\, August 5th and 6th\, 1763. Highlights of the site include the interpretive exhibit\, “The March to Bushy Run” at the site’s visitor center\, as well as guided and self-guided tours\, special events and educational programs. \nAbout The French and Indian War\nThe French and Indian War was a seven-year war in North America between England\, their American colonies\, and their Native American allies against the French and their Native American allies. When the war ended\, France was no longer in control of Canada and the Indians who had been threatening the American colonists were defeated. This war had become a world war. Great Britain spent a great deal of money in the conflict and colonists fully participated in this war. Both these facts were to have a profound effect on the future of the colonies. \n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”TripAdvisor Reviews: Battle of Bushy Run Reenactment”]\nBushy Run Is A Five Star Battlefield\nThe site of the 1763 battle between the British Army and Chief Pontiac’s Native American Confederation is a must see attraction. Visitors will first start at the visitor center\, which includes a small museum that details the events leading up to Pontiac’s Rebellion with the highlight of the museum being the 13 minute long documentary Road To Bushy Run. Afterwards\, you can either take a golf cart tour that loops around the battlefield or take your own self guided tour and walk in the footsteps the men who fought 250 years ago did. Sadly\, the first day’s battleground has become barren due to a farm being located on the site at one point. Edge Hill\, where the second day’s fighting occured is still preserved in the state it was during the battle. \nThere are numerous hiking trails that weave through the woods around Edge Hill (which provide an idea of what the 1st day’s battle ground was like). The site’s staff are very nice and informative and helped answer a lot of my questions. I will recommend doing a French and Indian War themed trip if you are visiting from out of the area\, as there are other sites relating to Bushy Run in the area. Overall\, Bushy Run Battlefield is a hidden gem in Western Pennsylvania that is a must see site. \n[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Bushy Run Reenactment on the first weekend of August in Jeannette\, Pennsylvania. \n \nTags: Battle of Bushy Run Reenactment\, Bushy Run Battlefield Reenactment\, French and Indian War Reenactment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

Behind them stood the Marquis de Montcalm\, a general used to doing the impossible in Canada and the mountains of Italy. With woolen vestes packed away\, wearing the white coats of France\, each French soldier double-checked his stockpile of loaded muskets and hoped for a miracle to defend New France from a British onslaught. Sweat beading up on their brows\, they looked over tangled branches and a forest of mere stumps. With piercing eyes they looked over the top of the stacked logs and began to see blazing musket fire explode as the largest single day of battle yet in the history of North America began. \nThree days prior\, the largest military force ever assembled in North America embarked by bateaux down Lake George\, leaving the ruins of Fort William Henry to invade New France from the south. At Fort Carillon\, 3\,700 French soldiers\, Canadian milice\, and native warriors stood to defend French soil in the New World. Abercromby’s army of British and Provincial soldiers landed at the north end of Lake George\, after a long night packed into the fleet of bateaux. Sweeping through the La Chute valley\, Brigadier General Lord Augustus Howe and the advanced guard encountered a lost patrol of French soldiers. In the ensuing confusing battle Lord Howe was shot through the chest\, and killed on the spot. The death of this leader\, known as the darling of the army\, struck a blow to British morale and tactical command. \n \nIn spite of Lord Howe’s death\, British and Provincial soldiers dug in along the La Chute River and General Abercromby prepared to assault the Heights of Carillon. Abercromby’s intelligence led him to believe that the Marquis de Montcalm’s soldiers had prepared merely a defensive abatis\, which could easily be taken. Early in the morning of July 8th\, General Abercromby moved regulars\, provincials\, and rangers into position to attack the Heights of Carillon. By this plan\, three columns of British and provincial soldiers would attack three sides of the French lines in unison. Instead\, individual regiments rushed forward\, dissipating their immense numerical advantage. What was supposed to be a well-coordinated attack soon fell apart. The French kept up a consistent fire on the attacking force\, pinning many of the British soldiers down\, forcing them to hide behind stumps of trees and the bodies of their fallen comrades. David Perry\, a Massachusetts provincial soldier\, described his perilous situation that July day. \nIt happened that I got behind a white-oak stump\, which was so small that I had to lay on my side\, and stretch myself; the balls striking the ground within a hand’s breadth of me every moment\, and I could hear the men screaming\, and see them dying all around me. I lay there some time. A man could not stand erect\, without being hit\, any more than he could stand out in a shower\, without having drops of rain fall upon him; for the balls came by hands-full. \nBritish Defeat and Retreat\nThe outcome looked grim for the few attackers who made it to the abatis. Rushing over the bare no-mans-land\, they attempted to cut and force their way through the sharp entangled branches\, facing clouds of lead bullets. After seven hours of fighting\, the battlefield was littered with the dead and dying\, and with dusk encompassing the battlefield a disorganized retreat south ensued for the British and provincial soldiers. The retreating soldiers brought with them the story of this great battle\, taking the name Ticonderoga home to taverns and newspapers in America and Britain. \nThis fight for the Heights of Carillon at that time was the single most-bloody day in American history\, and gave Fort Carillon a formidable reputation. Having held the French Lines for one day\, French soldiers continued to dig in\, preparing for a second day’s attack. Their somber celebration for the day’s victory was a single cross raised high behind the French Lines. The Marquis de Montcalm ordered this cross raised as thanks for their miraculous victory\, even as they prayed for another such miracle. News of this miraculous victory reached France by the fall of that year. On October 1st\, 1758 the French army staged a reenactment of the battle\, to accompany fireworks to celebrate in front of Paris city hall. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next 1758 Montcalms Cross Battle of Carillon Reenactment in July at historic Fort Ticonderoga! \nTags: Montcalms Cross Battle of Carillon Reenactment at Fort Ticonderoga\, French & Indian War Reenactment\, Montcalms Cross Battle of Carillon Reenactment\, 1758 Battle of Carillon Reenactment\, Battle of Carillon Reenactment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\, History & Living History Daily Demonstrations

The fur trade era is well connected to the Mille Lacs area\, and there were multiple trading posts\, trails and portages present. And both Aitkin and Morrison Counties were named after fur traders. \nThe Rendezvous Camp is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.\, with a donation needed for entry by those over 10 years old. The location is six miles south of Isle or 16 miles north of Ogilvie on Hwy. 47\, then one mile west on Red Road. \nThe sights\, sounds and smells of 200 years ago come alive once again\, with the opportunity to bring home some Americana of the time that the participants make and sell. There will be food\, blacksmiths\, woodcarvers\, woodworkers\, ropemakers\, music\, a storyteller and surprises. It’s never known just who might show up. The event kicks off with a 21-gun national salute at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Impromptu skills demonstrations and music are ongoing throughout the event by many artisans and primitive campers. \nThis event has been presented each year since 1993 by the Mille Lacs Lake Historical society of Isle\, Minnesota. At the Fort Dobbs Militia Muster\, living history interpreters will recreate an 18th century militia muster during a free event at the Fort Dobbs Historic Site. The presentation on Saturday and Sunday will feature musket firing\, cooking and other parts of military camp life. Visitors will be invited to join the ranks and learn marching drills each afternoon. \n\nFort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment\nMilitary training was part of life for the citizen soldiers\, and the muster re-enactment will portray residents of “Fourth Creek Settlement\,” as Statesville then was known. All males ages 16-60 were required by law to serve in North Carolina’s militia during the French and Indian War. These civilians would gather at appointed times during the year to practice military drill and could be used to quickly form an army for defense at times of invasion. Historic interpreters representing the Rowan County militia will offer on-going displays of military camp life\, as well as featured musket and cannon firing demonstrations. \nFort Dobbs preserves and interprets the history of the fort and North Carolina’s role in the French and Indian War. It is the only state historic site associated with the war\, which lasted from 1754 to 1763. \nAdmission: $2.00 ($2.00 donation suggested) \nHours:\nSaturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.\nSunday 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \nReenactors: Anyone wishing to participate in the Fort Dobbs War for Empire Reenactment needs to register. Reenactor Registration Form \nLocation:\nFort Dobbs State Historic Site\n438 Fort Dobbs Road\nStatesville\, NC 28625 \nDirections: From Interstate 40\, take either US 21 North (exit 151) or NC 115 North (exit. 150). From US 21\, turn left onto Fort Dobbs Road. From NC 115\, veer right onto S. Chipley Ford Road\, then turn right onto Fort Dobbs Road. \nFor More Information: Call 704-873-5882; Email: info@fortdobbs.org \n \nHistory of Fort Dobbs\nFort Dobbs was the only permanent frontier provincial fort in the colony of North Carolina. Construction began in late 1755 and was completed one year later. It served as the military headquarters for the frontier company (approximately fifty men) as well as a safe-haven for settlers. The fort was attacked on the night of February 27\, 1760 when more than 70 Cherokees were repelled. The garrison suffered two men wounded\, as well as having one colonial boy killed. The Cherokee were reported to have lost 10-12 men killed and wounded. By the end of 1761\, the British had essentially won the war and only thirty troops remained at the fort. Colonial leaders disbanded the troops and removed all the supplies of the garrison as settlement moved far west of the fort. The neglected fort was in ruins by 1766. \nReconstruction of Fort Dobbs\nSoon after protecting the site of Fort Dobbs in 1909\, the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized the need to reconstruct the blockhouse. Following initial archaeological investigations in the 1960’s and ’70’s the site became a State Historic Site\, but with several key questions about the original structure still unanswered\, no immediate reconstruction effort was planned.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nIn 2003\, the reincorporated non-profit Friends of Fort Dobbs took up the vision of then-site manager Beth Hill to begin an effort to rebuild. More than a decade of hard work ensued. The Friends undertook a fundraising campaign to fund the effort and co-operated with State officials\, historians\, historic building specialists\, architects\, and noted archaeologist Dr. Larry Babits to develop feasible\, historically sound plans and the capital needed to make Fort Dobbs stand on the banks of Fourth Creek once again. \nFollowing several other facility improvements to the site\, ground was broken for the new fort in August of 2016. A mix of modern and 18th Century construction techniques have been employed to meet the challenge of building a structure that must simultaneously meet modern building standards while also approximating an entirely hand-build piece of military engineering from 260 years ago. We hope\, with your support\, to have Fort Dobbs open as a living history exhibit on a grand scale by early 2019![/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment at the Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville\, North Carolina. \nTags: Fort Dobbs Militia Muster\, Fort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment\, Militia Muster\, French and Indian War Reenactment\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other War of 1812 Encampments & Reenactments

It was built in what is now Perrysburg\, Ohio\, on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River rapids. Ground was broken on February 2\, 1813 under the orders of General William Henry Harrison\, who wanted to fortify the region. Throughout the next three months professional soldiers and militiamen alike persevered through cold winter weather and mud that would at times be knee-deep. Despite horrid weather and disease in the camp\, the American army was able to complete Fort Meigs by the end of April\, 1813\, just in time for a British attack. Begin your journey in the Fort Meigs Visitor Center. Purchase tickets to explore the fort or shop the museum store. The administrative offices\, museum\, education center\, restrooms and vending machines are all found in the Visitor Center. All visits to Fort Meigs begin and end here. The first weekend in June\, Fort de Chartres State Historic Site hosts the largest rendezvous in Illinois or the Midwest with over a thousand participants\, hundreds of encampments\, and thousands of visitors joining in on the festivities. Based on the traditional French fur trapper’s rendezvous where trappers and traders would meet at a predetermined location to trade furs for necessities\, these rendezvous were the highlight of the fur trapper’s year and now the Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous is the highlight of Fort de Chartres’s extensive calendar of historical events and activities. \n\nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous\nThe Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous offers participants and visitors alike a glimpse into the period from 1740-1840\, a part of Illinois’ past when it was governed not only by France but by Great Britain and the United States as well. Costumed reenactors portray a variety of personas including colonial military units\, mountain men\, Native Americans\, settlers\, merchants\, and more. Historical demonstrations are located at various locations on the grounds and there are periodic demonstrations that include period music\, military drills\, and musket and cannon competitions. \n@ Fort de Chartres State Historic Site\, at 1350 IL Route 155\, 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher. The event is open and free to general public with special event parking for this event just $5 a car. Donations welcomed. For more information contact the site at (618) 284-7230 or email lesamisdufortdechartres@gmail.com. \nThe two-day popular Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous features shooting competitions\, military drills\, dancing\, music\, food\, and traders of eighteenth-century-style goods. The boom of cannons\, the smell of campfires and a parade of colorful uniforms will transport visitors back to the 1700s. The Rendezvous features 18th century military units\, traditional craft demonstrations\, period music and dancing\, black powder shooting events and cannon firings – all from the time when France controlled what is now Illinois. Visitors can try their hand at throwing a tomahawk\, buy hand-made crafts\, learn about French kitchen gardens\, and watch swordsmen duel\, taste delicious food and much more. \nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous Mini-Gallery\n[/fusion_gallery]\n \nAs Fort de Chartres is an Illinois Historic Preservation Agency site\, there is a wide variety of interpretive activities that can be found throughout the grounds. These activities run continuously throughout both days. In the Native Crafts area\, visitors can learn first hand the arts of bow and arrow making\, hide tanning\, basket weaving\, the use of native foods and herbs\, pottery\, the construction of wigwams\, and the history of how and why the fur trade became such an important frontier industry. There are also archery demonstrations and competitions. \nThe Colonial Area features demonstrations that include spinning\, dyeing\, the use of looms\, woodworking\, weaving\, quilting\, rope making\, coopering\, and blacksmiths. Located in the Fort buildings themselves are a French Patron (River Boatman\,) a French Marines quarters\, a Jesuit missionary in the Fort’s Chapel\, and the Piethman Museum. A French Colonial garden\, oxen\, and baked goods for sale from a working stone oven can be found near the demonstration areas. Throughout the grounds are demonstrations by independent merchants illustrating their skills\, and displaying and selling their creations. \nFort de Chartres began as a French military outpost. The reconstructed stone fort represents the third fort built by the French\, the first two wooden forts having been destroyed by the Mississippi River. It was this stone fort that the French turned over to the British in 1765 after the end of the French and Indian War. The British abandoned this fort\, moving their territorial headquarters to the nearby town of Kaskaskia. The abandoned stone fort was visited by George Rogers Clark during his expedition during the Revolutionary War. Representing this military tradition are a number of military reenactment units and marching bands representing all three colonial powers. Rifle\, musket\, and artillery competitions are all part of the scheduled programs. \nPeriod music can be found at any time during Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous. A center stage is set up within the fort and features various musical groups throughout the day. Many of these groups can be found entertaining visitors throughout the grounds when they are not featured on the main stage. In addition marching military bands with drums\, flutes\, bagpipes\, and other instruments can be seen patrolling the grounds. \nHundreds of tents\, teepees\, and other primitive shelters become the weekend home for the over one thousand reenactors who come to the Fort De Chartres June Rendezvous from across the country. Visitors can gain a lot of insight into the life styles of the fur trapping era by exploring the Primitive Camp. The reenactors are a friendly bunch and are happy to talk about the specifics of their camp and the personas they portray. Sutlers\, merchants\, and trade blankets are located throughout the grounds selling many period related goods that are only available at this type of event. \n \nLocation\nFort de Chartres State Historic Site\n350 State Route 155\nPrairie du Rocher\, IL 62277\nDirections: 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher\, about an hours drive south of St. Louis. The Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant is a reenactment of the events that took place at Fort Michilimackinac with a story that begins with friendship\, respect and cooperative trading between the Native Americans\, French and the Voyageurs and Traders. Following the French and Indian War\, the Fort comes under the rule of the British\, who treat the Native Americans as servants. Present-day Mackinaw City developed around the site of the fort\, which has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Fort Michilimackinac was relocated to the new Fort Mackinac (don’t get them confused) on Mackinac Island during the American Revolution\, with some of the buildings moved across the ice in the winter of 1780-1781. The remaining structures were burnt to the ground. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant on Memorial Day Weekend at historic Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City\, Michigan. \nTags: Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant\, Michigan Voyageur Rendezvous\, Michigan Rendezvous\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Longhunter Rendezvous or Encampments\nView other Voyageur Rendezvous or Encampments

The fort was reconstructed during the Great Depression and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965. \nThe Fort Loudoun State Historic Park features a visitor center/museum\, reconstructed Fort Loudoun\, and stabilized ruins of Tellico Blockhouse (1794-1807). Fort Loudoun was constructed by the British Colony of South Carolina to ally the Overhill Cherokee Nation in the fight against the French and to guarantee that trade would continue between the Cherokee and South Carolina. \nBut relations between South Carolina and the Cherokee Nation broke down and the Cherokee captured Fort Loudoun and its garrison. It is thought that the Cherokees destroyed the fort shortly thereafter. The blockhouse served as a gateway (with passes required) into Cherokee land\, a trading post\, and a factory to teach new skills to the Cherokees. \nPicnic tables\, fishing pier\, hiking trails and boat dock are available. Boat launching ramps are available off site. The Historic Area hosts many seasonal events\, such as Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekends with reenactors\, an 18th Century Trade Faire\, and student field trips. \n \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Spring Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekend at Fort Loudoun State Park in Vonore\, Tennessee. \nTags: Spring Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekend\, Fort Loudoun Garrison Weekend\, French & Indian War Encampment\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

To get to the Market Fair\, take exit 12 (MD 56) off of I-70\, about 15 minutes west of Hagerstown. Hours are Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; and Sunday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Entrance fees are: Adults – $5\, Children 6 to 12 – $2\, Children 5 and under – Free. 4-Day Passes are available – contact the Visitor Center at 301-842-2155. \nWhen this event began in 1994\, the Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair had much more of a rendezvous flavor. Participants portrayed time periods from the 1600s through the end of the mountain-man era in the 1840s\, and even Plains-style teepee camps were common. In 2003\, responsibility for organizing the event shifted from a regional blackpowder club to the Friends of Fort Frederick\, who decided to honor the history of the region and limit the time period for portrayals to the 18th century. \nPublic Hours:\n9:00 am – 5:00 pm Thursday through Saturday\n9:00 am – 3:00 pm on Sunday \nPublic Admission: \nAdults – $5.00\nAges 6 to 12 – $2.00\nAges 5 and Under – free\n4-day passes available; contact the Park Visitor Center at 301-842-2155. \nLocation\nFort Frederick State Park\n11100 Fort Frederick Road\nBig Pool\, MD 21711 \nFor More Information:\nFort Frederick State Park: fortfrederick.statepark@maryland.gov 301-842-2155\nFriends of Fort Frederick: info@friendsoffortfrederick.info\nVolunteer Coordinator: George Michael gfmichael46@gmail.com 301-331-6939\nMarket Fair Committee Secretary Jenifer Scarisbrick 301-824-6512 \nFort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair Mini Gallery\n\n\n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”FORT FREDERICK MARKET FAIR SCHEDULE (Schedule may be subject to change)”]\nThursday\nAll Day – Visit the sutlers\, encampment and the fort.\nFriday\nAll Day – Visit the sutlers\, encampment and the fort. All clothing\, camping gear and equipment used by participants must be appropriate to the time period from 1730 to 1790. Vendors must also meet these standards\, both in their clothing and equipment\, and in the wares offered for sale. First-time vendors are vetted in advance by the Friends of Fort Frederick Trade Committee before they are allowed to participate. \nThe 18th-century timeframe is in keeping with the event’s venue. The centerpiece of Fort Frederick State Park is a massive stone fortification that was built in 1756\, after the defeat of General Braddock exposed the western colonial frontier to attacks by the French and their native allies. \nDuring the Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair\, a contingent of reenactors portraying French and Indian War-era Maryland provincial troops man the fort\, live in the barracks and provide interpretive events for visitors. These men portray members of Alexander Beall’s and Joshua Beall’s companies of Maryland forces. During the Market Fair\, the troops have a schedule of exhibitions that they perform. You can watch marching demonstrations\, flag-raising ceremonies or demonstrations of 18th-century military music. \nCivilian reenactors and living historians of every type that you could have found in 18th-century society can be found at the Fort Frederick Market Fair. Most of the campers portray typical frontier types\, dressing and equipping themselves as hunters or scouts. There is also a large contingent that prefers to portray the higher strata of colonial society\, so that\, among the rough-and-tumble long hunters you’ll find powdered-wig aristocrats and evening-gowned ladies. There are also quite a few reenactors who portray Native Americans of the period. \nRogers’ Rangers at the Market Fair\nFort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair also serves as one of the largest gatherings of Rogers’ Rangers reenactors. Roger’s Rangers started as an independent company of light troops. Their job was to serve as scouts and skirmishers that operated well forward of conventional troops\, harassing the French and securing intelligence. They performed their work so well that\, by the end of the war\, Robert Rogers was a major leading a small battalion of his Rangers\, and the Rangers were the chief scouting unit for the British forces. Rogers’ Rangers are the direct ancestors of our modern U.S. Army Rangers. \nToday\, Rogers’ Rangers are primarily reenacted by members of Jaeger’s Battalion. Jaeger’s Battalion is a national\, colonial period historical reenactment group headquartered in Grand Rapids\, Michigan. This is one of the oldest reenacting groups in the country. The battalion serves as the umbrella group for the various state-based Ranger companies. At the Market Fair you will usually see Battalion Adjutant Bill Blair leading companies from Virginia\, Maryland and Pennsylvania\, and sometimes companies from much farther afield. \nColonial Commerce – It’s why you’re here!\nThe fort and the military reenactors are a major part of the event\, but the main draw at the Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair is the vendors. Expect about 150 vendors to set up shop selling their 18th-century goods. Events like this are essential to reenactors and living historians who need to outfit themselves with period-correct gear. \n \nIn addition to craftsmen\, there are vendors who offer the full range of 18th-century essentials. At Fort Frederick Market Fair\, you can fully outfit your person with 18th-century apparel from several excellent tailors. You could also buy every item you would need to outfit a comfortable camp\, from the tent all the way down to a colonial pot scrubber. And you can pick up all the muzzleloading gear you need\, from a custom rifle or musket to a handmade powder horn or a custom shooting bag. And\, if you don’t need any big-ticket items\, you’ll find a full range of small items like cleaning jags and forged screwdrivers. \nIn addition to the formal vendors\, you’ll find many reenactors offering a variety of gear for sale on informal “trade blankets”. Any camper may set up a blanket in front of their camp and offer goods for sale to passersby at Fort Frederick Market Fair. \nAbout Fort Frederick\nFort Frederick was one of the largest frontier fortifications built during the French and Indian War. It occupies an area of 1.5 acres\, and it was built to stand up to a major military assault. The fort’s massive stone walls are 4.5 feet thick at the base. Inside the fort\, two large barracks buildings face each other across the parade ground. The fort is open and inside the walls you can tour the two barracks buildings. They are furnished with sleeping quarters\, workshops and offices\, just as they would have been during the mid-18th century. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair in April (weekend from Thursday to last Sunday of month) at Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool\, Maryland. \nTags: Fort Frederick 18th Century Market Fair\, 18th Century Market Fair\, Colonial Market Fair\, Fort Frederick Colonial Market Fair\, Fort Frederick Market Fair \nView other Market Fair & Trade Fair Events

The Virginia Regiment Captain George Mercer Co reenactors are a group of avid Living Historians dedicated to memorializing and reenacting Colonel George Washington’s Virginia Regiment known as the “Virginia Blues”. The regiment manned forts and outposts in Pennsylvania\, Virginia\, Maryland and North Carolina during the French and Indian War. We invite those with similar interests to join our group. \nAbout The Battle of Great Cacapon\nOne of the most important military engagements of the War in Virginia took place in the vicinity of Ft. Edwards on April 18\, 1756. In what has come to be called either the “Battle of Great Cacapon River” or “Mercer’s Massacre”\, Capt. John Fenton Mercer\, Ensign Thomas Carter and fifteen soldiers of a larger group were ambushed and killed when they left the safety of the fort to search for a band of Indians roaming in the area. This was the most fearful incident to occur near Winchester. It sent chills through the Governor and Burgesses in Williamsburg and impressed upon them the vulnerability of the frontier and the need for a defensive line of frontier forts.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nIn the first half of the French and Indian War\, Edwards’s Fort was manned and maintained by the Virginia Regiment at Col. Washington’s orders. In later years after the war as bridges began to be built on important highways\, the road was moved to a location with high bluffs along the bank. When the Northwest Turnpike was completed in the 1830s\, Edwards’s home was no longer the center of town; it was then located well north of the highway. As Joseph Edwards’s heirs divided his lands and the town began to develop\, the no-longer-necessary wooden stockade rotted away. Eventually all traces of Edwards’s house and of the stockade fort disappeared.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nThe Fort Today\nLittle is known about the Fort at Joseph Edwards. Its location has been verified by preliminary archaeological excavations\, but much remains to be discovered. In May of 1756 after Mercer’s Massacre\, the House of Burgesses of the Colony of Virginia\, at the urging of Col. Washington\, ordered a chain of forts to be built from Henry Enoch’s at the Forks of Capon south to Halifax County. Several of these forts were in Hampshire County\, but only the site of Edwards’s Fort is definitely located and available for investigation today. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Mercers Massacre Reenactment: The Battle of the Great Cacapon in April at Fort Edward in Capon Bridge\, West Virginia. \nTags: Mercers Massacre Reenactment\, Battle of the Great Cacapon Reenactment\, French & Indian War Reenacrment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments\, Musters and Other Events

We hope\, with your support\, to have Fort Dobbs open as a living history exhibit on a grand scale by early 2019![/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Dobbs War for Empire French and Indian War Reenactment in April at the Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville\, North Carolina. \nTags: Fort Dobbs War for Empire French and Indian War Reenactment\, Fort Dobbs War for Empire\, War for Empire\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other War of 1812 Encampments & Reenactments

This event is designed to be a rich experience for both participants and visitors. \nMajor Robert Rogers force of both volunteers from the 27th foot\, and his own rangers headed out on an extended scout from Fort Edward along Lake George\, following an attack on a similar patrol from Captain Israel Putnam’s Connecticut rangers. Hiking on snowshoes due to the three feet of snow\, the tracks of Roger’s force were spotted on its march up the west side of Lake George. Near the north end of Lake George\, Major Rogers’ advanced scouts spotted their French counterparts. Rogers and his Rangers took up positions in a ravine\, setting his force in ambuscade to await whatever French patrol would come to meet him. \nThe French patrol that met Roger’s men proved far larger than he imagined\, and in this Battle on Snowshoes\, the rangers’ ambush was itself surrounded and overwhelmed. In deep woods on deep snow\, the rangers were forced to retreat with heavy casualties as the French regulars\, malice\, and natives pressed home their attack. Despite brave stands along the way\, this retreat quickly became chaotic as rangers\, Roger’s included\, ran for their lives from superior numbers of French. \nThere was not just one\, but three Battles On Snowshoes.Every other year at Fort Ticonderoga\, visitors can witness the re-enactment of a savage battle fought between the British Rangers and French soldiers on March 13\, 1758\, as described above. \n \nHowever\, a prelude to this battle occurred near Fort Carillon (now Fort Ticonderoga) on January 21\, 1757. Similar circumstances were evident\, in which Rogers’ Rangers were ambushed by a mixed troop of French regulars\, Canadian militiamen\, and Indians during a scouting expedition. Although the British had a distinct advantage due to their snowshoes\, they were largely outnumbered\, suffered heavy casualties and were forced to retreat under the cover of darkness. \nThe third and final Battle on Snowshoes occurred on March 7\, 1759 directly across from Fort Carillon\, beginning with a skirmish line composed of Rogers’ Rangers and a number of Iroquois allies. They successfully ambush a French wood-cutting detail on the eastern shore and take five prisoners. This marked the close of Rogers’ overall expedition to make observations of the French defenses on the Carillon peninsula\, and to seize prisoners for information that would assist in General Amherst’s attack later that year. \nMark your calendar today for the Fort Ticonderoga Battle on Snowshoes Reenactment in January so you don’t miss this exciting French & Indian War event! \nTags: Fort Ticonderoga Battle on Snowshoes Reenactment\, Fort Ticonderoga Living History\, Battle on Snowshoes Reenactment \nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\, History & Living History Daily Demonstrations

We hope\, with your support\, to have Fort Dobbs open as a living history exhibit on a grand scale by early 2019![/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Dobbs Cherokee Attack Anniversary Reenactment on February 24-25\, 2018 at the Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville\, North Carolina. \nTags: Fort Dobbs Cherokee Attack Anniversary Reenactment\, Fort Dobbs Cherokee Attack Anniversary\, Cherokee Attack Anniversary\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other War of 1812 Encampments & Reenactments

The unit was quickly adopted into the British army as an independent ranger company. It was trained by Major Robert Rogers as a rapidly deployed light infantry force tasked mainly with reconnaissance as well as conducting special operations against distant targets. Their tactics were built on earlier colonial precedents and were codified for the first time by Rogers. The tactics proved remarkably effective\, so much so that the initial company was expanded into a ranging corps of more than a dozen companies (containing as many as 1\,200–1\,400 men at its peak). The ranger corps became the chief scouting arm of British Crown forces by the late 1750s. The British valued them highly for gathering intelligence about the enemy. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next John Jaeger Memorial School of the Ranger at Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool\, Maryland on the last weekend of January. \nTags: John Jaeger Memorial School of the Ranger\, John Jaeger School of the Ranger\, 18th century Ranger Training\, John Jaeger Memorial School of the Ranger weekend\, Jaeger’s Battalion of Rogers Rangers \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

Three forts were consecutively built between 1720 and 1755\, bearing witness to the French colonial empire established in the Mississippi basin during the XVIIIth century. Abandoned for many decades\, it was during the wave of historical site development in the first half of the XXth century that the state of Illinois partially rebuilt it to perpetuate the memory of the French presence in the region. \nAlthough it was constructed out of stone\, the new fort was not made to resist grand artillery fire; rather\, it was made to resist native sieges. After the signature of the Treaty of Paris in 1763\, officialising the French defeat at the end of the Seven Years’ War\, Fort de Chartres wound up in British hands and was renamed Fort Cavendish. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next \nTags: Fort De Chartres French and Indian War Encampment\, Fort De Chartres French & Indian War Encampment\,French and Indian War Reenactment \nView Other Fort de Chartres Events\nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Encampments
