At Fort Meigs Muster on the Maumee\, soldiers\, artisans\, and civilians give demonstrations throughout the weekend. Period military camps are open for visiting. Weapon demonstrations take place each day. \n\nFort Meigs Muster on the Maumee\nMilitary history enthusiasts will not want to miss the unique “Muster” being hosted by Fort Meigs where you will see the evolution of the common soldier from the Vikings to the Roman soldiers to the modern American military. \nOne of the largest and most diverse historical events in the US\, Fort Meigs Muster on the Maumee featues military re-enactors portraying soldiers from 10 centuries\, including: Vikings\, Roman legions\, medieval footmen\, soldiers of the American Revolution and Civil War\, soldiers of World War I and II and servicemen from the war in Vietnam. \nVisit period military camps where re-enactors answer questions about their particular era. It was built in what is now Perrysburg\, Ohio\, on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River rapids. Ground was broken on February 2\, 1813 under the orders of General William Henry Harrison\, who wanted to fortify the region. Throughout the next three months professional soldiers and militiamen alike persevered through cold winter weather and mud that would at times be knee-deep. Despite horrid weather and disease in the camp\, the American army was able to complete Fort Meigs by the end of April\, 1813\, just in time for a British attack. The Margaretta Days Festival and Crafts Fair celebrates the American Revolution Downeast\, specifically the Battle of the Margaretta\, the first Naval Battle of the American Revolution\, the beginning of the US Merchant Marines\, and the Battle of the Rim. This annual festival in Machias\, Maine was named one of Yankee Magazine’s 2010 Top 20 Events which encourages everyone to enjoy travelling back in time to life in 1775. It’s a lot of fun with a bit of history thrown in. History comes alive with an encampment of soldier re-enactors and period demonstrations. \n\nCentury Market Fair at Locust Grove\nReenactors of all levels are welcome to participate in sharing the history of the first Naval battle of the American Revolutionary War in 1775 when the local men seized the HMS Margaretta.\nMilitary\, militia and civilian reenactors\, all authentically dressed for the period\, include farmers\, trappers\, hunters\, sailors\, traders\, lumbermen\, soldiers\, minister\, and four of Maine’s Indian tribes. \nAt the Margaretta Days Festival and Crafts Fair you might watch a skirmish between the redcoats and patriots. You might visit the trappers\, timber framers\, blacksmith\, woodworkers\, weavers\, spinner. You could experience what it’s like to throw a tomahawk or toss an antler. Then watch the children’s activities: cornhusk dollmaking\, hoop-rolling\, and more. Be sure to taste the period food: moose or venison stew\, meat pies\, beans\, cornbread\, and fruit pies to name a few. Enjoy live period music; listen to the stories of our heroes: Jeremiah O’Brien\, Hannah Weston\, Rev. Lyons\, Passamaquoddy Chief Jean Baptiste Neptune. It will be a day the whole family will enjoy and remember for years to come. \nPublic Welcome – Free Admission\nThe second Saturday of every June the Margaretta Days Festival and Crafts Fair begins with a breakfast at our local American Legion\, followed by the 10:00 parade to the festival. The day concludes with a bean supper at the Masonic Hall. History\, food\, games\, shopping! Handicapped accessible\, fun for the whole family and admission to the Festival is free! \nAmerican Legion Post 9 Hosts Margaretta Days Breakfast\nAs in all prior years\, the Ephraim Johnson American Legion Post 9 is hosting a Margaretta Days breakfast\, kicking off the historic occasion in the county seat. Post 9\, one of the town’s largest and most loyal community contributors\, donates thousands every year to the Machias area\, including its food pantries\, scholarships and donations to needy children and families. The breakfast at the post will run from 7-9 a.m. on Saturday\, featuring blueberry pancakes\, bacon\, eggs\, sausage and muffins. Drop by and get Margaretta Days Festival and Crafts Fair off to a great start! \n \nSaturday Parade\nAfter the pancake breakfast\, a parade of pomp and circumstance begins as people gather and proceed to a hill in the distance. Walking together are the sons and daughters of the American Revolution\, and in these roles represent those that fought and died for a young country. Native American tribal leaders\, state and local dignitaries\, costumed reenactors of patriots\, citizens and children aboard replicas of ships join the ranks. It is a procession accompanied by flags\, musket shot\, drums and fife that fill the air with patriotism as it moves up College Hill toward the reenactor encampments\, games\, activities\, and crafters on the Green Commons at the University of Maine Machias Campus \nShowing Your Goods at the Crafts Fair \nAll booths are on a first come\, first served basis and are 12’ by 12.’ You provide your own tent\, tables\, chairs\, etc. There is no electricity or water available. There will be port-a-potties and in case of rain we can move into a University building.. Set-up is 8 am and take-down 3:00 pm. Our only requirement is that the items you sell are handmade or hand-painted (your own prints are acceptable). DESCRIPTION:2019 Mille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous\n\nRate This Event\n \n                                    \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                    \nExperience early fur trade-era life at the 27th Annual Mille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous on June 29-30\, 2019 six miles south of Isle\, Minnesota. All re-enactors from the French & Indian War through the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade are welcome. \n\nMille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous\nSince 1993\, the Mille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous has been held in late June in a rolling field in the woods south of Mille Lacs Lake. The event produces a bloom of white canvas in the form of tents in the style of 200 years ago. The rendezvous has become a highly regarded living history event within Minnesota. It’s a regular destination for up to 150 living history participants living in a frontier city of 55 to 75 primitive camps\, and for many\, a yearly reunion. \nA big part of the experience is the camaraderie among the re-enactors\, known as voyageurs and buckskinners\, while the other is the passion of demonstrating skills and crafts of 200 years ago to kids of all ages. The fur trade era is well connected to the Mille Lacs area\, and there were multiple trading posts\, trails and portages present. And both Aitkin and Morrison Counties were named after fur traders. \nThe Rendezvous Camp is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.\, with a donation needed for entry by those over 10 years old. The location is six miles south of Isle or 16 miles north of Ogilvie on Hwy. 47\, then one mile west on Red Road. \nThe sights\, sounds and smells of 200 years ago come alive once again\, with the opportunity to bring home some Americana of the time that the participants make and sell. There will be food\, blacksmiths\, woodcarvers\, woodworkers\, ropemakers\, music\, a storyteller and surprises. It’s never known just who might show up. The event kicks off with a 21-gun national salute at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Impromptu skills demonstrations and music are ongoing throughout the event by many artisans and primitive campers. \nThis event has been presented each year since 1993 by the Mille Lacs Lake Historical society of Isle\, Minnesota.
