We will be having a living history weekend covering The Battle of Dominguez Rancho or The Battle of the Old Woman’s Gun (October 8\, 1846) which was a military engagement of the Mexican–American War (1846 to 1848)\, that took place right here in Southern California near Los Angeles in 1846. The battle took place within Manuel Dominguez’s 75\,000-acre Rancho San Pedro\, which today encompasses the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. \nThe public is invited to experience the Battle Reenactment as well as many aspects of life during the 1800s\, which include: military encampments\, vendors\, music and dance. Children’s activities will include: corn husk doll making\, tortilla making\, cattle roping\, adobe brick making and gold panning. Historical reenactors and skilled craftspeople representing French\, British and Americans gather at the Encampment to demonstrate the skills and lifestyles of early residents in this area. \n\nFort Massac Encampment\nBattle of Drouillard Creek Reenactment\nVisitors to the two-day event view military camps and buck skinner lodges\, craft stalls and trade blankets\, and booths with period food and drinks. Battle re-enactments will again be held in the valley area\, which Fort Massac Site Superintendent Terry Johnson says gives spectators the best view of the battle. Gates open at 10 am both days\, with the battles taking place on Saturday at 3pm and Sunday at 2pm as history comes alive in Andersonville\, Georgia. The Andersonville Historic Fair takes place on the first full weekend each October\, \n\nAndersonville Historic Fair\nSutlers selling Civil War uniforms and accouterments\, guns\, swords\, flags and Civil War era civilian clothing add color and interest as do craftsmen such as gunsmiths\, blacksmiths\, basket makers\, quilters\, weavers\, and artists of all kinds. \nVisitors from all walks of life came to Andersonville last weekend to enjoy a parade\, sample the wares of the many food vendors\, and take a trip back to a time when the nation was on the brink of being torn asunder by a brutal war. The first big activity is the parade on the main street on Saturday at 11 am. The Saturday parade\, an annual favorite\, includes a marching band and a wide variety of participants and entertainmen\, and features marching soldiers wearing the colors of both the Union and Confederate armies of the civil war. Special entertainment include performances by The Southern Gunslingers\, puppet shows\, line dancing\, clogging\, bluegrass\, jazz and country band performances\, and gospel singing. \nWar reenactors will mingle with visitors\, clad in period-accurate garb to accentuate the many historic attractions available to festival goers\, including a working blacksmith shop\, a variety of antique and collectibles stores\, arts and crafts vendors\, reproductions of buildings from the 1860s and\, of course\, the Civil War battle reenactments. \nThere is a lot to do at the Andersonville Historic Fair and Civil War Reenactment and in the Anderson Historic Village.
