Thousands of skilled interpreters\, French\, English and other military reenactors\, musicians\, and artisans engage the imagination while inspiring exploration of the music\, cultures\, and crafts of the past. The first European settlement in Indiana\, Fort Ouiatenon experienced different cultures and lifeways that built our nation. \n\nFeast of the Hunters Moon\nThe Feast of the Hunters Moon offers both the public and the participants a realistic portrayal of the people\, cultures\, and lifestyles that existed on the French and English colonial frontier in the Great Lakes region during the time of Fort Ouiatenon\, which encompassed the period from 1717-1791. We want to interpret this time and place as accurately as possible in order to offer the public an educational and unforgettable experience\, and also to honor the people who lived here. \nThe Feast of the Hunters Moon is a weekend festival and historical reenactment held each fall on the first weekend of October (first Sunday) since 1968\, at the present-day site of Fort Ouiatenon\, a replica 18th century French military and trading post near West Lafayette\, Indiana. \nThe Feast is held on the grounds of the Historic Fort Ouiatenon Park\, on the Wabash River. The blockhouse is a replica of the original Fort Ouiatenon\, which was the first fortified European settlement in what is now called Indiana. The fort served as a French trading post and was located approximately one mile downriver from the replica. \nAdmission & Ticket InformationAdult: One-Day Pass: Advance- $10; Gate- $13; Weekend Pass- $18Child (4-16): One-Day Pass: Advance- $5; Gate- $7; Weekend Pass- $9Children under 4: FreeFamily Pass (2 adults and up to 4 children): Advance- $30; Gate- $35.00Buy Online \nHoursThursday and Friday School Days (not open to public)Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EDTSunday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EDT \nFeast of the Hunters Moon Gallery Preview\n\nView Full Gallery\nProgram for Feast of the Hunters MoonDuring the festival\, participants reenact the annual fall gathering of the French and Native Americans which took place at Fort Ouiatenon in the mid-18th century.[5][6] Participants dress in the garb of the 18th century French soldiers\, settlers\, and Native Americans who lived in this region.[7][8] Food vendors sell traditional period foods such as rabbit stew\, voyageur stew\, and venison sausage.[6][8] The program also includes music\, marching\, dancing and renenacted military maneuvers. \nMusical performancesAs part of the event\, various musical acts perform\, including Native American drummers\, historical folk music performers\, French folksingers and period fife and drum corps. \nLiving history presentationsThe event includes historical reenactments featuring period characters from the 1700s to educate visitors about the lives and culture of the period. One historical interpreter presented a Delaware Indian who first served as a scout for the French and whose people lived along the Wabash River in the 1700s and co-existed peacefully with the French at the outpost. Others play traders and gunsmiths\, such as “Pierre Rolletof” of French Scots-Irish descent who traveled along the Wabash River trading a range of items\, including guns\, and also gunsmithed as he traveled. Other reenactors have demonstrated various period trades and crafts\, including a chairmaker who built Windsor chairs to order\, spending 40–45 hours per chair.[ \nLocation:Fort Ouiatenon Park3129 S. The Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant is a reenactment of the events that took place at Fort Michilimackinac with a story that begins with friendship\, respect and cooperative trading between the Native Americans\, French and the Voyageurs and Traders. Following the French and Indian War\, the Fort comes under the rule of the British\, who treat the Native Americans as servants. The great Ottawa Chief Pontiac calls for a war council and devises a blueprint to decimate the British\, which includes the playing of an innocent baggataway game. Will Chief Pontiac’s plan succeed? You have to come to the Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant and see! \n\nFort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant\nThe Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant cast consists of community volunteers who portray British and French Soldiers\, Colonial Women and Men\, Native Americans and Voyageurs. The Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant is the longest running free Memorial Day historical program in U.S. More than 400 cast members take part in the three-day Memorial Day weekend pageant that brings to life the 1763 Fort Michilimackinac battle between the French\, British\, and Native Americans. \nThe Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant cast members are clad in period costumes and demonstrate the way of life for residents of Northern Michigan in the 1760s. A highlight of the weekend is the Memorial Day Parade through the streets of Mackinaw City that includes more than 100 bands\, acts\, and floats. \nAdmission (to Fort):\nAdults $12.50\nChild (5-12) $7.50\nUnder 5 Free \nFort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant Schedule (subject to change)\nSaturday\n9:00 am\, Fort Michilimackinac opens\, Voyageurs Shoot at the range (Windmill farms) (Sunday if rain)\n1:00 pm\, Grand Parade\n3:00 pm\, 18th Century fashion show\, fort parade grounds\n3:30 pm\, Reenactment at Fort Michilimackinac\n8:30 pm\, Fireside Activities Voyageurs Camp\nDusk\, Fireworks display water front state dock area.\nAfter fireworks\, Camp Activities (Voyageurs Camp) \nFort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant Mini-Gallery\n\n \nSunday\n9:00 am\, Fort opens\n9:30 am\, Voyageurs Knive & Hawk (Voyageurs Camp)\n10:30 am\, Voyageurs children’s game\, high school\n2pm\, 18th Century Mackinac Fashion Show\, fort parade grounds\n2:30 pm\, Reenactment at Fort Michilimackinac\n4:30 pm\,Voyageurs Other Competitions (Voyageurs Camp) \nMonday\n8:30 am – 9:30 am\, Memorial Day Service: Marina Park/Cemetery\n9:00 am\, Fort opens\n2:00 pm\, 18th Century Mackinac Fashion Show\, fort parade grounds\n2:30 pm\, Reenactment at Fort Michilimackinac \nLocation\nFort Michilimackinac\n102 Straits Ave\nMackinaw City\, Michigan 49701\n(231) 436-5563 \nAbout Fort Michilimackinac \nFort Michilimackinac was an 18th-century French\, and later British\, fort and trading post at the Straits of Mackinac; it was built on the northern tip of the lower peninsula of the present-day state of Michigan in the United States. Built around 1715\, and abandoned in 1783\, it was located along the Straits\, which connected Lake Huron and Lake Michigan of the Great Lakes of North America. Present-day Mackinaw City developed around the site of the fort\, which has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Fort Michilimackinac was relocated to the new Fort Mackinac (don’t get them confused) on Mackinac Island during the American Revolution\, with some of the buildings moved across the ice in the winter of 1780-1781. The remaining structures were burnt to the ground. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant on Memorial Day Weekend at historic Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City\, Michigan. \nTags: Fort Michilimackinac Reenactment Pageant\, Michigan Voyageur Rendezvous\, Michigan Rendezvous\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Longhunter Rendezvous or Encampments\nView other Voyageur Rendezvous or Encampments

Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa (commonly known as “The Prophet”) were leaders of a confederacy of Native Americans from various tribes that opposed US expansion into Native territory. As tensions and violence increased\, Governor Harrison marched with an army of about 1\,000 men to disperse the confederacy’s headquarters at Prophetstown\, near the confluence of the Tippecanoe and Wabash rivers.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nTecumseh\, not yet ready to oppose the United States by force\, was away recruiting allies when Harrison’s army arrived. Tenskwatawa\, a spiritual leader but not a military man\, was in charge. Harrison camped near Prophetstown on November 6 and arranged to meet with Tenskwatawa the following day. Early the next morning\, however\, warriors from Prophetstown attacked Harrison’s army. Although the outnumbered attackers took Harrison’s army by surprise\, Harrison and his men stood their ground for more than two hours. The Native Americans were ultimately repulsed when their ammunition ran low. After the battle\, they abandoned Prophetstown and Harrison’s men burned it to the ground\, destroying the food supplies stored for the winter. The soldiers returned to their homes. \nHarrison\, having accomplished his goal of destroying Prophetstown\, proclaimed he had won a decisive victory. He gained the nickname “Tippecanoe”\, which was popularized in the campaign song “Tippecanoe and Tyler too” during the presidential election of 1840\, which Harrison won. The defeat was a setback for Tecumseh’s confederacy from which it never fully recovered.[3][4] \nAmerican public opinion blamed the violence on British interference in American affairs through financial and munitions support for the Indians. This led to a further deterioration of relations with Britain and was a catalyst of the War of 1812\, which began six months later. By the time the US declared war on the United Kingdom in June 1812\, Tecumseh’s confederacy was ready to launch its war against the United States in alliance with the British. In preparation\, the Natives soon rebuilt Prophetstown. Frontier violence in the region would continue until well after the War of 1812\, although Tecumseh was killed in 1813 during the Battle of the Thames.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Tippecanoe Commemoration in November on Veteran’s Day weekend at the Tippecanoe Battlefield in Battle Ground\, Indiana. \n \nTags: Battle of Tippecanoe Commemoration\, Commemoration of Battle of Tippecanoe\, War of 1812 Reenactment\, Indiana Living History \nView other War of 1812 Reenactments & Other Events

Highlights of the event include musket firing presentations\, hearth cooking demonstrations\, a clothing talk and militia drills. \nEvent Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday\, and 10:00 am to 3:00 pm Sunday. \nAbout Fort Frederick and Pontiac’s Rebellion\nIn 1763 the Ottawa Chief Pontiac led a massive Indian rebellion against the English. Governor Sharpe of Maryland reactivated the fort\, which had ultimately been shut down after the French and Indian War\, and sent arms and militia to garrison it. Seven hundred area settlers flocked to the fort for protection. Although the Indians besieged the new English Fort Pitt\, which stood on Duquesne’s old site\, they never got close to Fort Frederick. Pontiac’s Rebellion was eventually put down\, and Fort Frederick again found itself abandoned. \nPublic Admission: \nAdults – $5.00\nAges 6 to 12 – $2.00\nAges 5 and Under – free\n4-day passes available; contact the Park Visitor Center at 301-842-2155. \nLocation\nFort Frederick State Park\n11100 Fort Frederick Road\nBig Pool\, MD 21711 \nFor more information: call 301-842-2155; email fortfrederick.statepark@maryland.gov \nAbout Fort Frederick\nFort Frederick was one of the largest frontier fortifications built during the French and Indian War. It occupies an area of 1.5 acres\, and it was built to stand up to a major military assault. The fort’s massive stone walls are 4.5 feet thick at the base. Inside the fort\, two large barracks buildings face each other across the parade ground. The fort is open and inside the walls you can tour the two barracks buildings.
