DESCRIPTION:18th Century Fort Loudoun Christmas Candlelight Tour\n\nRate This Event\n \n                                    \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                    \n\nCelebrate Christmas in the 18th century style with native greenery\, carols and wassail. Re-enactors will bring these and other 18th century lifestyles back to life with blacksmithing demonstrations\, musket and artillery firings plus a special candlelight tour of Fort Loudoun. \nDaytime hours: 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. \nChristmas at Fort Loudoun begins early with Roll Call and the Raising of the Colors\, ending the daylight performance with the Lowering of the Colors. Throughout the day costumed performers go about their garrison duties interacting with guest and visitors\, demonstrating the crafts and skills that were used to fill ones personal\, and the community’s daily need. \n[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SD-FF9HtxY&width=650&height=400[/embedyt] \n18th Century Fort Loudoun Christmas Candlelight Tour\nLiving history makes Fort Loudoun not only a unique historical stage but also an educational theater concerning the lifestyles of Early Americans. Garrison troops and officers provide insight into their daily routines with several displays of 18th century military might which included Artillery Drills\, Musket Drills\, Posting of the decorations Fort Loudoun Guard\, and marching in rank around the grounds\, as well as mock battles that are presented at some special events. \nThe Christmas program at Fort Loudoun offers us a vintage look at “Christmas Past.” A view of a more simple and humble time for those isolated far from home and country. Advance registration is required; some blackout dates may apply. \nAbout the Withdrawal in 1777\nOn September 13\, 1777 a mission was launched against Ticonderoga by two American detachments of about 500 men each under the command of Brigadier General Jonathan Warner and Colonel John Brown were sent to Ticonderoga to secure the release of American prisoners\, destroy British provisions\, and if possible to attack the Fort. On the morning of September 18\, the forces converged on Ticonderoga. Over the next few days Colonel John Brown’s force captured the British blockhouse at the top of Mount Defiance\, secured the release of 118 American prisoners and captured nearly 300 British soldiers. \nBrown’s men also burned several of the Fort’s outbuildings and destroyed about 150 batteaux. However the American forces soon realized that without reinforcements and additional supplies\, a direct attack on the Fort would not succeed\, and on September 22 Colonel Brown’s force called off the attack. Less than a month later\, the British army surrendered at Saratoga. \nIn early November\, cut off\, short of food\, and the weather getting colder the British-held posts of Fort Ticonderoga and Mount Independence made the hard decision to withdraw back to Canada. \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events
