Read the entire article. \n\nBattle of Perryville Reenactment\nUnlike other events\, at the Battle of Perryville Reenactment\, you will be on actual ground that the armies of North and South engaged to determine the destiny of Kentucky! Your military leadership is experienced and their primary responsibility is to you and making sure you have an outstanding time while representing and honoring those who fought at Perryville! \nPerryville Battlefield is a nationally significant Civil War site. Although Confederate forces were victorious on the battlefield at Perryville\, the Rebels eventual evacuation of the state forever lost Kentucky’s resources and men for the Confederacy. The Confederate loss of Kentucky along with Lee’s loss at Antietam set the stage for Abraham Lincoln to change the cause and course of the war. We strive to educate the visiting public on the key role that Perryville played in the Civil War. The battle would settle Kentucky’s allegiance as well as help to define national politics which forever changed our nation. \nRecreating small sections of the original engagement during the Battle of Perryville Reenactment is one form of interpretation used by Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site to fulfill its mission of preserving and interpreting history. \nThe Battle of Perryville Reenactment takes place on the first ‘full’ weekend of October\, including Friday – Sunday. There will be an all day unscripted tactical on Friday\, a sunrise battle and “The Cornfield” on Saturday. The “Fight for the Bottom’s Farm” occurs on Sunday afternoon. (Detailed battle descriptions are included in the information on this page.) \nAdmission\nAdult: $4.00; Adult Group (10 or more) $3.50\nChild ( 7 to 12) $3.00 (6 and under FREE); Child Group (10 or more) $2.50\nMilitary & Senior discount $3.50 \nLocation\nPerryville Battlefield State Historic Site\n1825 Battlefield Road\nPerryville\, KY 40468 \nFor More Information: 859-332-8631 friendsofperryville@gmail.com \nBattle of Perryville Reenactment Mini-Gallery\n\n \nReenactor and Visitor Information\nFor detailed reenactor information (artillery\, cavalry\, infantry)\, civilians and sutlers\, refer to the Official Website and select the navigation buttons labeled for the information you need. \nWho can participate in the Battle of Perryville Reenactment and where do we camp?\nEveryone who has an impression that meets the guidelines may participant either as a military or civilian reenactor. You may participate with a reenactment unit\, mess or as an individual. There will be camping areas for campaigners\, fixed military camps\, and an authentic civilian area. There will be a mixed camp for civilians and military camping together. There is no modern camping on the park. Due to the nature of the Battle of Perryville Reenactment we cannot permit walk-ons. \nBattle of Perryville Reenactment Hosting Organization\nThe Kentucky Department of Parks is hosting the event. The military organizations that are responsible to the Kentucky Department of Parks are the Western Federal Blues\, and the Southern Division. They successfully planned and executed the 150th Anniversary Event and we are pleased to have them put forth the time\, trouble and expense to help us raise much needed preservation funding for the battlefield. \nBattle of Perryville Reenactment scenarios?\nIt is very easy to plan the scenarios for Perryville. The generals wrote them 150 plus years ago. The park historian has each army’s movement broken down into 15 minute increments and the scenarios will be scripted to those movements. \nThe Cornfield: Saturday 2:00 PM\nThis scenario simulates the events that took place at approximately 2:00 PM on Wednesday\, October 8th\, 1862. While General Daniel Donelson’s brigade was moving forward into attack position\, Brigadier General William R. Terrill’s Union Brigade was in the process of forming their line on the “Open Knob”. Maney’s Brigade\, assisted by Wharton’s Cavalry\, attacked with vigor\, rolling over Terrill’s regiments as they arrived on the field piecemeal. \nThe Fight for Bottom’s Barn: Sunday 1:00 PM\nThis battle scenario simulates the events that took place at approximately 3:00 PM on Wednesday\, October 8th\, 1862. Since about 10:00 in the morning\, William H. Lytle’s brigade had taken up position on the right flank of Union 1st Corps commanded by General Alexander M. McCook. The 3rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry\, supported by the 15th Kentucky infantry\, were positioned in Henry P. Bottom’s barn yard overlooking Henry Bottom’s House. Since there appeared little threat to their front\, another regiment\, the 42nd Indiana\, was sent forward to the semi-dry bed of Doctor’s Creek to rest\, boil some coffee\, and fill their empty canteens in the drought-stricken area. Suddenly\, the calm was broken by a fusillade of Confederate artillery shot and shell landing all around. Soon after\, two heavily supported Confederate Infantry brigades came out of the woods and attacked towards the 3rd Ohio and the 15th Kentucky\, driving the hapless 42nd Indiana in a panic from the creek bed. \nThe Confederates had problems too. Bushrod R. Johnson’s Confederate brigade was assigned to attack this area. The Confederates became mixed and disorganized by the cliffs along the creek\, just to the north of the road as well as other terrain features. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Perryville Reenactment on the first full weekend of October at the Perryville Battlefield in Perryville\, Kentucky. \nTags: Battle of Perryville Reenactment\, Battle of Perryville Civil War Reenactment\, Perryville Battlefield Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

The attack on the Kentucky settlement of Boonesborough was led by Chief Blackfish\, a Shawnee leader allied to the British. Months before the battle\, Blackfish had captured and adopted Daniel Boone\, the founder of Boonesborough. Boone escaped the Shawnees in time to lead the defense of the settlement. Blackfish’s siege was unsuccessful and was lifted after ten days. Boone was then court-martialed by fellow officers who suspected him of having British sympathies. Boone was acquitted\, but he soon moved away from Boonesborough. \nAbout Fort Boonesborough\nRichard Henderson\, founder of the Transylvania Company in 1775\, chose Daniel Boone to head a party of 31 axe men to clear a path through the Cumberland Gap that would run from Long Island of the Holston River\, Tennessee\, to Otter Creek of the Kentucky River. Blazing the trail presented extraordinary difficulties – the route through the wilderness was a hunter’s trace that was too narrow for a wagon. The task was to combine The task was to combine many trails into one continuous route by clearing underbrush and overhanging foliage. When Daniel Boone and his men reached the Kentucky River on April 1\, 1775\, they quickly moved to establish Kentucky?s second settlement–the site still known as Fort Boonesborough. \nFor more information about 1778 Siege of Fort Boonesborough Reenactment: Phone 859-527-3131 ext 216 or email Fort Manager bill.farmer@ky.gov \nLocation\nFort Boonesborough State Park\n4375 Boonesborough Rd.\nRichmond\, Ky. 40475 \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next 1778 Siege of Fort Boonesborough Reenactment at at Fort Boonesborough State Park in Richmond\, Kentucky in September. \nTags: 1778 Siege of Fort Boonesborough Reenactment\, Siege of Fort Boonesborough Reenactment\, Fort Boonesborough 1778 Seige Reenactment\, American Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView Other Texas Revolution Events\nView other Living History Events

Seating is set up around the area where the intertribal dancing is to take place is for the dancers\, not the spectators\, so bring your own lawn chairs. It is good to ask before taking a picture out of respect for those who may have religious reasons for avoiding photos. No one should ever enter the dance arena unless invited. Do not touch the clothing of any dancer. A good rule of thumb is to wait for the reaction of the Native onlookers. If they clap\, then everyone claps. Most of the time the emcee will tell the audience what is going on and what to do. \n\nMedicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow\nAttending a powwow gives spectators the opportunity to glance into the history of Native Americans\, a glimpse of a centuries-old tradition and a chance to gaze upon the beauty of their regalia while listening to the rhythmic beat of their drums and their voices lifted in song. \nFood vendors will also be on-site at the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow providing the always popular Indian tacos and fry bread. There will be craft vendors selling a wide selection of Native items including shirts\, jewelry\, wooden crafts\, rugs\, wall decorations and Native items for children. \nTentative Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow Schedule\nFriday\n5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Gourd Dance\n7:00 pm Grand Entry \nSaturday\n2:00 pm – 5:00 pm Gourd dance\n5:00 pm – 6:00 pm Dinner Break\n6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Gourd Dance\n7:00 pm Grand Entry \nSunday\n2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Gourd Dance\n4:00 pm Grand Entry \nLocation\nMedicine Lodge City Park\nMedicine Lodge\, KS 67104 \nMedicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow Mini-Gallery\n\n \nAbout the Powwow\nDances and the ceremonies with which they are associated played an integral part in the lifestyle of the Native American. A dance was held to ask for aid from the gods before a battle or a hunt. A dance was also held to celebrate joy or to mark a mourning. Dances\, or powwows as they are now called\, are still important occasions for the American Indian. It is an occasion for making new friends and enjoying old friendships. There are not many activities where a great-grandparent and great-grandchild may participate in the same activity as they may at a powwow. \nThe word powwow is derived from the Algonquian term pau-wau\, or pauau\, which referred to a gathering of medicine men or spiritual leaders. European explorers who observed these gatherings pronounced the word wrong and passed on the wrong pronunciation to the Indians when they began learning English. \nThe history of powwows is sketchy as there was a period of time when the gatherings were illegal under the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The modern-day powwow gives Native Americans an occasion to meet\, dance\, sing\, socialize\, honor their Native American culture and share their traditions with non-Indians. \nPlanning an event like the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow can take months. If a powwow or celebration is publicized\, it is open to the public. Sometimes\, it may be open to the public but there is a charge. In that case\, it becomes more of an exhibition display. \n \nPowwow Dances\nThe Gourd Dance\, which is performed at many powwows\, including the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow\, originated in the 1800s among the Cheyenne\, Arapahoe\, Kiowa and Comanche tribes. The Gourd Clan\, formerly a warriors’ society\, now may include any member of the tribe. The members of the different gourd clans and clubs can be veterans themselves or are representatives of veterans. The red on the blanket which is worn by the dancers represents the blood which was shed by warriors and the blue on the blanket represents victory. \nThe Snake Dance is rich in symbolism. It was thought that because the snake lived so close to the ground he understood the problems of the soil and its need for water. The Indians performed the dance to the snake so he might take a message to the gods to send rain to the plants. The dances portray the snake coiling\, striking\, retreating and returning to strike again. \nOther dances that you will see at the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow\, as well as many other powwows\, includes the Round Dance\, Buffalo Dance\, War Dance and the Flag Dance\, a dance that nearly every Indian tribe has composed in recent years to honor the men and women who have served in all branches of the armed forces during the various wars. This song is the Indian equivalent of the national anthem\, and all should stand when this song is sung. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow in Medicine Lodge\, Kansas. \nTags: Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Powwow\, Medicine Lodge Peace Treaty Pow Wow\, Medicine Lodge Powwow\, Medicine Lodge Pow Wow\, Kansas Powwow\, Kansas Pow Wow \nView Other Kansas Powwows

At the Fort Christmas Fall Militia Encampment\, you will learn about the second Seminole Indian War from soldiers in period dress\, camped in front of the fort; this free event includes musket firing demonstrations and programs in the fort at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on both days. \nAdmission Free – Parking Free – Public Welcome \nPark Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. \nAs the Second Seminole War escalated across Florida in 1835\, U.S. Army orders were issued to build a string of over 200 forts to garrison men and supplies in an effort to supress the Seminole Indians. As the army arrived in central Florida on Christmas Day\, 1837\, the stockade was aptly christened Fort Christmas. Fort Christmas is a typical Seminole Indian War fort\, made of tall pine pickets. The fort is 80 linear square feet\, with two block houses that are 20 square feet each\, with a storehouse and a powder magazine within the walls of the fort. The replica of Fort Christmas serves as a museum with exhibits focusing on the Second Seminole War and pioneer life in Florida. Today\, the replica fort and museum is the centerpiece of Fort Christmas Historical Park. \n \nIn addition to the park’s full scale replica of the 19th century fort\, seven restored cracker era buildings are open for tours. These pioneer homes and a school building are furnished with period furniture\, appliances\, kitchen items and hand tools. A few of these Florida cracker homes included the Beehead Ranch house\, the Taylor Creek Yates home\, and the 1916 Union Schoolhouse. This family friendly event is extremely popular\, one of Central Florida’s most interesting traditional gatherings. The Cracker houses on display belonged to families with familiar names from Florida’s pioneer days\, such as Simmons\, Wheeler\, Bass\, and Yates. \nLocation\nFort Christmas Historical Park\n1300 North Fort Christmas Road\nChristmas\, FL 32709\n407-254-9312 \nFor More Information: Call 407-254-9312 or Email Trudy.Trask@ocfl.net \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Christmas Fall Militia Encampment on the weekend before Thanksgiving at the Fort Christmas Historical Park in Christmas\, Florida. \nTags:Fort Christmas Fall Militia Encampment\, Fort Christmas Spring Militia Encampment\, Fort Christmas Militia Encampment\, Fort Christmas Militia Reenactment\, Fort Christmas Historical Park\, Fort Christmas \nView other History Festivals & Events

John Brown\, no stranger to dangerous missions\, helped engineer the first capture of Ticonderoga in 1775. With the stakes all the higher\, he would test his luck again. As General Gates prepared to stop the British advance on Albany\, he ordered General Lincoln to divide\, divert\, and harass General Burgoyne’s supply lines back to Canada. Colonel Brown chose his men carefully\, allowed first pick of the ragtag patriot force assembled by General Lincoln at Pawlet\, Vermont. Massachusetts and Vermont militia men would get their chance to strike a major blow against General Burgoyne’s attack to divide the colonies. Steadying them would be regulars from Colonel Warner’s regiment of Vermonters. Out front\, Vermont rangers were to lead the way. Leading the rangers was\, Captain Benjamin Whitcomb\, a ranger so skilled in his craft he was a wanted man to the British Army. \nRushing down into the LeChute river valley from Lake George landing\, Brown’s men captured 330 British prisoners and set 118 American POWs free. Dawn at Fort Ticonderoga would see British Cannons atop Mount Defiance\, which forced the American’s to flee that summer\, turned on the British garrison itself. British soldiers awoke to the sight of a Brunswick soldier cut in half by a British cannon ball fired by Brown’s men from the summit of that hill. Rearmed with captured British weapons\, American POWs got a chance to settle their score shoulder to shoulder with Brown’s militia\, regulars\, and rangers. Destroying supplies\, and livestock\, capturing boats\, guns\, and cannons\, Colonel John Brown’s raiders disappeared back up Lake George\, jumping into the pages of history. \nFort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Reenactor Information\nMark you calendar today so you won’t miss the Fort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Reenactment in September at Historic Fort Ticonderoga in Ticonderoga\, New York. \n \nTags: Fort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Reenactment\, Fort Ticonderoga\, Fort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Revolutionary War Reenactment\, New York Revolutionary War Reenactment \nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\, History & Living History Daily Demonstrations\nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Park entrance fees apply. \nOne Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick will give visitors a look at life in the fort as volunteers exhibit the varied roles the Fort played during the French and Indian War\, the American Revolution\, and the Civil War. \nThough Fort Frederick isn’t famous for ‘Heroic Last Stands’ or battles\, its re-use throughout history\, for such a variety or reasons makes it unique. Activities and living history encampments will give visitors a look into the small heroics of history; the daily lives of the people who served throughout these much larger conflicts. \nHighlights of One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick include: \n\nFlag Raising\nFrench and Indian War Era Military Drill\n“Sundry women” – women’s roles in the 18th Century\n18th Century Military Field Music\nVolunteer Company Drill\nCole’s Maryland Cavalry (Union) in the Civil War (Saturday ONLY)\nAmerican Revolutionary War Drill\n“Forsaking their Plantation” Maryland Refugees during Pontiac’s War of 1763\nThe Life of a British Prisoner of War during the American Revolution\nCivil War Military drill\nFlag Lowering\n\nAdmission Fees\nThere is a service charge of $3 per car for Maryland residents and $5 per car for non-Maryland residents for this event. Disabled access is available; however\, most of the event activities are situated on grassy areas that may present difficult rolls or walks. Please dress for inclement weather or hot sunny days. \nLocation\nFort Frederick State Park\n11100 Fort Frederick Road\nBig Pool\, MD 21711\n301-842-2155 \nThe One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick program takes a deeper look at the uses of the Fort and the roles of the people there\, during the French and Indian War\, The American Revolution\, and the Civil War. Originally built by Governor Horatio Sharpe of Maryland to protect the frontier during the French and Indian War\, his decision to build it of stone made it a lasting monument\, and a place to reuse. Twenty years later George Washington sent one of his Colonels to the Fort to turn it into a Prison camp\, and throughout the War of Independence 1000 British prisoners were kept captive\, guarded by American Troops. By the Civil War the Fort was in ruins and used as farmland\, but with the proximity of the Canal and Railway\, Union troops would often camp in those ruins to protect those supply lines from Confederate raiders. While not a turning point in history for any of those conflicts\, the program will allow a closer look at life for the common soldier serving in the Wars that shaped the Nation. For more details and program times contact the Park Visitor Center at 301-842-2155. \nFood\, gift\, and souvenir items will be available for sale at Captain Wort’s Sutler Shop. In addition to programs in the Fort\, the Parks visitor centre and exterior museums have more exhibits about its history\, including uniforms\, artifacts\, and a video. \nFort Frederick is located off of Rt 70 exit 12 at State Route 56\, Big Pool\, MD. For more information about the Garrison Weekend or other Fort Frederick activities\, please call the park at 301-842-2155 during the office hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm weekdays and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm weekends. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool\, Maryland. \nTags: One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick State Park\, French & Indian War Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events\nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events
