John Brown\, no stranger to dangerous missions\, helped engineer the first capture of Ticonderoga in 1775. With the stakes all the higher\, he would test his luck again. As General Gates prepared to stop the British advance on Albany\, he ordered General Lincoln to divide\, divert\, and harass General Burgoyne’s supply lines back to Canada. Colonel Brown chose his men carefully\, allowed first pick of the ragtag patriot force assembled by General Lincoln at Pawlet\, Vermont. Massachusetts and Vermont militia men would get their chance to strike a major blow against General Burgoyne’s attack to divide the colonies. Steadying them would be regulars from Colonel Warner’s regiment of Vermonters. Out front\, Vermont rangers were to lead the way. Leading the rangers was\, Captain Benjamin Whitcomb\, a ranger so skilled in his craft he was a wanted man to the British Army. \nRushing down into the LeChute river valley from Lake George landing\, Brown’s men captured 330 British prisoners and set 118 American POWs free. Dawn at Fort Ticonderoga would see British Cannons atop Mount Defiance\, which forced the American’s to flee that summer\, turned on the British garrison itself. British soldiers awoke to the sight of a Brunswick soldier cut in half by a British cannon ball fired by Brown’s men from the summit of that hill. Rearmed with captured British weapons\, American POWs got a chance to settle their score shoulder to shoulder with Brown’s militia\, regulars\, and rangers. Destroying supplies\, and livestock\, capturing boats\, guns\, and cannons\, Colonel John Brown’s raiders disappeared back up Lake George\, jumping into the pages of history. \nFort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Reenactor Information\nMark you calendar today so you won’t miss the Fort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Reenactment in September at Historic Fort Ticonderoga in Ticonderoga\, New York. \n \nTags: Fort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Reenactment\, Fort Ticonderoga\, Fort Ticonderoga Browns Raid Revolutionary War Reenactment\, New York Revolutionary War Reenactment \nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\, History & Living History Daily Demonstrations\nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

Hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Park entrance fees apply. \nOne Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick will give visitors a look at life in the fort as volunteers exhibit the varied roles the Fort played during the French and Indian War\, the American Revolution\, and the Civil War. \nThough Fort Frederick isn’t famous for ‘Heroic Last Stands’ or battles\, its re-use throughout history\, for such a variety or reasons makes it unique. Activities and living history encampments will give visitors a look into the small heroics of history; the daily lives of the people who served throughout these much larger conflicts. \nHighlights of One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick include: \n\nFlag Raising\nFrench and Indian War Era Military Drill\n“Sundry women” – women’s roles in the 18th Century\n18th Century Military Field Music\nVolunteer Company Drill\nCole’s Maryland Cavalry (Union) in the Civil War (Saturday ONLY)\nAmerican Revolutionary War Drill\n“Forsaking their Plantation” Maryland Refugees during Pontiac’s War of 1763\nThe Life of a British Prisoner of War during the American Revolution\nCivil War Military drill\nFlag Lowering\n\nAdmission Fees\nThere is a service charge of $3 per car for Maryland residents and $5 per car for non-Maryland residents for this event. Disabled access is available; however\, most of the event activities are situated on grassy areas that may present difficult rolls or walks. Please dress for inclement weather or hot sunny days. \nLocation\nFort Frederick State Park\n11100 Fort Frederick Road\nBig Pool\, MD 21711\n301-842-2155 \nThe One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick program takes a deeper look at the uses of the Fort and the roles of the people there\, during the French and Indian War\, The American Revolution\, and the Civil War. Originally built by Governor Horatio Sharpe of Maryland to protect the frontier during the French and Indian War\, his decision to build it of stone made it a lasting monument\, and a place to reuse. Twenty years later George Washington sent one of his Colonels to the Fort to turn it into a Prison camp\, and throughout the War of Independence 1000 British prisoners were kept captive\, guarded by American Troops. By the Civil War the Fort was in ruins and used as farmland\, but with the proximity of the Canal and Railway\, Union troops would often camp in those ruins to protect those supply lines from Confederate raiders. While not a turning point in history for any of those conflicts\, the program will allow a closer look at life for the common soldier serving in the Wars that shaped the Nation. For more details and program times contact the Park Visitor Center at 301-842-2155. \nFood\, gift\, and souvenir items will be available for sale at Captain Wort’s Sutler Shop. In addition to programs in the Fort\, the Parks visitor centre and exterior museums have more exhibits about its history\, including uniforms\, artifacts\, and a video. \nFort Frederick is located off of Rt 70 exit 12 at State Route 56\, Big Pool\, MD. For more information about the Garrison Weekend or other Fort Frederick activities\, please call the park at 301-842-2155 during the office hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm weekdays and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm weekends. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool\, Maryland. \nTags: One Fort: Three Wars at Fort Frederick State Park\, French & Indian War Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events\nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

These were American Citizen Soldiers\, who held different Loyalties in battles that showed the true Valor of both Sides as well as the terrible sacrifice\, showed their Honored Banners from that War. \nIf you do not like either the Union of States National and Regimental Colors nor the Confederate National and Regimental Colors\, please do not attend as a spectator\, we respect your beliefs and would fight to protect them but we also recognize our ancestors beliefs and history and will not bow our heads on either side to political expediency nor to ANY hate group. \nADA Accessibility Notes\nThe museum is equipped with handicap restroom facilities; parking available; there is a lot of walking\, both on pavement and on the ground. \nPet Friendly Notes\nDogs must be on a leash at all time; while they are welcome\, it’s not recommended due to the loud noise of the battle (cannons and gun fire) \nAbout the Construction & Battle for Tunnel Hill\nIn 1836 the Georgia General Assembly created the Western & Atlantic Railroad\, which would connect Ross’s Landing (soon to be renamed Chattanooga) with a point on the Chattahoochee River. Southern terminus of the 138-mile route was staked out with a “zero mile post” seven miles southeast of the Chattahoochee. A village sprouted around the point\, eventually to become the city of Atlanta. Long found a way of not having to tunnel through Missionary Ridge\, but in mountainous north Georgia\, Chetoogeta Mountain\, thirty miles south of Chattanooga\, had to be dug through. Work began July 1848 and the tunnel was opened October 1849. Track was laid and the first train passed through on May 9\, 1850. \nDuring the Civil War the Western & Atlantic was an important Confederate supply line\, especially for the Army of Tennessee. The unsuccessful Union army raid led by civilian James J. Andrews on April 2\, 1862 was intended to disrupt it. In the Georgia Campaign of 1864 the W & A served both the retreating and advancing armies. \nUnion forces seized Tunnel Hill in the opening days of the campaign. On the morning of May 7 Brig. Gen. Jefferson Davis’ Fourteenth Corps division advanced toward Tunnel Hill. Maj. J. T. Holmes’ 52nd Ohio was in the lead and found 50-100 Confederate cavalry near the town. After a brisk skirmish the Southern horsemen retired back toward Johnston’s main line along Rocky Face Ridge. The Confederates did not try to damage the tunnel and only took up some rails\, which were quickly replaced. Confederate forces approached Tunnel Hill twice more during the campaign – Wheeler’s cavalry in mid-August\, and Hood’s infantry after the fall of Atlanta in mid-October – but neither time did they attempt to damage the tunnel. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment in Tunnel Hill\, Georgia. \nTags: Battle of Tunnel Hill Reenactment\, Battle of Tunnel Hill Civil War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

The Rendezvous participants are in historically accurate clothing and shelters. We expect to have over ninety encampments and demonstrators. The students\, parents and teachers will be immersed in a rich discussion of history\, social customs\, and the skills and items that were necessary to survive on the frontier. The time period we encompass with the Rendezvous is from the period of early exploration\, through the fur-trade era\, to the early colonization of our area\, approximately 1660 to 1848. This material is appropriate for most 4th\, 5th and 6th grade classes studying American and local history. Our capacity is limited so participation in “Student Day” is by invitation only. We continue to direct our focus toward making this a truly educational event. \nAll students attending our School Day are free\, including chaperones and teachers. We are proud to offer such a rich educational experience at no cost to area schools. Our Rendezvous is run by a non-profit organization and committee of volunteers; a suggested donation of $3 per person would be greatly appreciated from those who are able. \nEach student will be given one free “student” pass so that they may return with their families on Saturday or Sunday when the Rendezvous is open to the general public. \nIf you have questions\, please call 708-551-2509. \n“School Day” Registration Form[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nFood Vendors\nThere are a variety of food vendors at the Rendezvous. Trapper Days Rendezvous is one of the major yearly rendezvous events of the Tallow River Trappers hosted at the South Platte Valley Historical Society’s Historic Park. \n\nTrapper Days Rendezvous\nTrapper Days Rendezvous is a good time for all. Families and “pilgrims” are welcome to visit and get a feel for the historic rendezvous encampments of the mountain men. The rendezvous camp and the fort and the historic park are open during the day. The rendezvous coincides with the Trapper Day festivities in the city of Fort Lupton. In the rendezvous area of the historic park there is a Traders Row that provides trade goods from the 1830s. At dusk\, pre-1840 dress is required for everyone wanting to be in the rendezvous encampment. \nBeing the spring rendezvous\, the rendezvous camp area of the South Platte Valley Historic Park is greening up. Big leafy cottonwood trees provide shade and the fresh grassy areas provide a comfortable place to set up camp. Nearby\, snowmelt is running down the Platte River. Non re-enactor visitors are welcome during the day\, but at the end of the day only campers in pre-1840 clothing are allowed in the rendezvous area. There is a separate area for “Tin Teepees” and modern camps setups for those not in period attire. \nFort Lupton Trapper Days Rendezvous Mini-Gallery\n\n \nEarly Set-Up\nEarly set-up is on the Saturday and Sunday prior to the official dates of the Trapper Days Rendezvous. This allows campers and traders to establish their camp the weekend before the rendezvous. Camps must be broken down the last day of the rendezvous. \nLocation\nSouth Platte Valley Historic Park\n2001 Historic Parkway\nFort Lupton\, CO 80621\n303-857-1710 \nFor More Information:\nCall (303) 857-1710; Email spvhsboard@gmail.com \n \nAbout Lancaster Lupton’s Trade Fort\nIn 1836\, Lancaster Lupton\, formally a lieutenant in the U.S. Dragoons and a West Point graduate\, began building a trade fort that became a competitor to the mighty Bent and St Vrain Fur Company for the fur and buffalo hide trade with the plains tribes. While the original fort that Lancaster Lupton built has long been gone\, a dedicated group of individuals began in 2003 to reconstruct the fort. The reconstructed Fort Lancaster\, as it was known in its original period of operation\, 1836-1844\, was completed and dedicated in 2011.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nA visit to Lancaster Lupton’s trade fort is an experience of going back in time to when an individual with a vision and entrepreneurial spirit took risks to establish a trade enterprise on the wild prairie along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Lancaster Lupton first came to the area with a military expedition in 1835. By 1836 Lupton had resigned his commission and was bringing skilled craftsman and labor from the Mexican village of Taos north to build his trade fort. By 1837-38 he was trading with the Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes. Come see his trade fort and walk through the inner plaza to visit the blacksmith and carpenter shops\, living quarters\, kitchen and food preparation rooms\, trade rooms\, cantina and storage room with historic artifacts.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nAbout South Platte Valley Historic Park\nHistoric Fort Lupton (aka Fort Lancaster) and South Platte Valley Settlement Historic Park encompasses 97 acres of land along the South Platte River just northwest of the city of Fort Lupton\, Colorado. The land consists of a large natural and camping area immediately along the river and a high bench of land where the original Fort Lancaster was located.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nAlong the river\, in groves of cottonwood trees are camping areas that can be used by Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops with reservations. These camping areas are also used by the re-enactment department of the SPVHS – the Tallow River Trappers – to hold periodic rendezvous events. Immediately along the river are nature areas that are home to deer\, turkey\, foxes and other animals and birds. At the north end of the historic park is a muzzleloading shooting range leased by the Fort Lupton Muzzleloading Club. \nStart your tour of the historic park at the re-creation of Fort Lancaster\, which was in operation from 1836 to 1844. Move down the path and see the restored trapper cabin from the 1850s\, which was originally located down along the Platte River in Adams County. Moving further down the path\, your will see both the Independence School built in 1875 and the Donelson homestead house built in the 1860s. The Donelson House and the Independence School represent the settlement of the Platte Valley started by the early fur trappers and traders.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nHosted by The Tallow River Trappers\nThe Tallow River Trappers is the living history branch of the South Platte Valley Historical Society\, sponsor of the annual rendezvous. The Tallow River Trapper has their own campsite below Fort Lancaster in Fort Lupton\, Colorado. They support five other rendezvous a year in addition to the \,and welcome all to attend. More about the Tallow River Trappers. \n \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Trapper Days Rendezvous in the rendezvous area of the South Platte Valley Historic Park in Fort Lupton\, Colorado on the weekend after Labor Day (Thursday – Sunday). \nTags: Trapper Days Rendezvous\, Trapper Days Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Fort Lupton Trapper Days Rendezvous\, Colorado Rendezvous\, Colorado Mountain Man Rendezvous \nView other Colorado Rendezvous

Explore the unique shops that surround the public square. Pottery\, herbs\, dried flowers\, handmade chairs\, silhouettes\, soaps\, jewelry\, books\, lanterns\, fabric\, glassware\, clothing of the frontier era\, and much more can be found in the tents and booths of merchants and artisans. \nBalloon Flight\nThe Fair at New Boston hot air balloon will be launched from the front of the market area if weather cooperates. Made out of paper and ink this balloon demonstrates how man first got a view from above more than 200 years ago. \nHistoric Figures Come to Life\nScheduled throughout the day at the Fairmasters Tent\, you will find a variety of frontier folks ready to tell their stories: Daniel Boone\, Chief Black Hoof\, and George Rogers Clark. This is a great spot to sit on benches in the shade. \nLiberty Dancers\nTwice each day\, the Liberty Dancers will demonstrate dances of the time period enjoyed by many of the founding fathers and mothers. Visitors will be given an opportunity to join in. \nEntertainment at Cheapside and throughout the Fair\nNeed to rest your feet? Join the audience and share in the hearty laughter at Cheapside Theater. Can Dr. Balthasar’s elixir really cure for all that ails you? Besides Cheapside\, Entertainment can be found throughout the Fair. The beautiful Slack Rope Walker has captivated visitors for years. Puppets\, magicians\, and balladeers set up in various locations throughout the day. \nFood and Beverages \nCome hungry to the Fair at New Boston! Enjoy frontier foods authentically prepared. Scotch eggs\, smoked turkey legs\, chicken legs\, shredded beef\, pork sausage on a stick\, bison on a bun\, ham on a biscuit\, shredded chicken on a roll\, spiced roast beef\, bread with flavored butter & jam\, chicken and noodles\, Carolina rice\, green beans and potatoes\, garlic mushrooms in wine\, ham & beans\, New Brunswick stew\, and apples & cheese will delight even the pickiest eaters. For desserts choose from peaches and pound cake\, raspberries and cream\, pies\, or vanilla ice cream with plum sauce. \nDrink Up at Three Historic Taverns\nThirsty visitors will find beverages in three taverns\, The Black Horse\, Littlejohn’s\, and the Hickory\, in addition to the Dancing Goats Coffee House\, which is located right in the middle of everything. In addition to lemonade\, ice tea\, a sarsaparilla\, and bottled water\, taverns also serve beer. (Although we claim to be in 1797\, a 21st century ID is still required of guests!) \nNative American Village\nFollow the sound of drums down a forest trail to visit the growing Woodlands Indian Village. The Fair at New Boston is on the former site of two Shawnee villages\, Peckuwe and Kispoko. Handicrafts\, games\, and demonstrations of Shawnee\, Mingo\, Miami\, Wyandotte\, and other tribes are featured. All day\, you can learn how food was prepared in camp at live cooking demonstrations. This is also one of the shadiest places to come on a hot\, sunny afternoon. \nMusic\nMusic was enjoyed in 1797 in many different forms\, as it is now. Relax in a historic tavern while listening to music of the era. Musicians playing violins\, mandolins\, guitars\, and even bagpipes move from tavern to tavern and rove throughout the area. The coffeehouse is a center of entertainment and a place where you can enjoy a game of checkers or chess. \nBattle Reenactment and Cannon\nThrill to the boom of the full-sized Revolutionary War cannon. The Mad River Light Artillery Revolutionary War reenactor group sets up their bronze British Light six-pounder at the top of the hill near the flagpole and militia encampment. This group will demonstrate cannon firing many times throughout each day. \nEach afternoon\, the Fair at New Boston features the excitement of a battle reenactment. Our reenactment features militia on foot and on horse\, cannons\, Shawnee warriors\, and British Crown troops. After the battle\, visit the militia camps on the hill between Hertzler House and the George Rogers Clark Memorial. The First Mad River Light Artillery near the flag pole will be available to answer questions. \nGrand Camera Obscura\nNear the entrance to the Fair at New Boston\, an oddly shaped tent will most likely be first to catch your attention. It’s the Grand Camera Obscura. Fair attendees can be among a relatively fortunate few who can enjoy this historical scientific attraction\, which is just like the one seen in Paris more than 200 years ago. Step into the round tent and be prepared to be amazed. \n\nPremier Living History Event\nThere is time after the battle to finish shopping\, get something to eat\, and catch another of the entertainers. You will also want to see the closing ceremonies at the end of the day. \nAll of this is why the Fair at New Boston is recognized as a premiere living history event. All the music\, entertainment\, clothing\, methods of cooking\, foods served\, merchandise booths\, and equipment used by the artisans are juried (or judged) to ensure authenticity to the period. It is also special because it is held on an historic site. George Rogers Clark Park was the site of the Battle of Peckuwe\, the Shawnee villages of Peckuwe and Kispoko\, and the frontier town of New Boston. The Fair at New Boston is our way of remembering our history. There is so much to do at the Fair at New Boston that many visitors come back for a second day of fun on Sunday. \nParticipant Information\nThis is a juried event. It was built in what is now Perrysburg\, Ohio\, on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River rapids. Ground was broken on February 2\, 1813 under the orders of General William Henry Harrison\, who wanted to fortify the region. Throughout the next three months professional soldiers and militiamen alike persevered through cold winter weather and mud that would at times be knee-deep. Despite horrid weather and disease in the camp\, the American army was able to complete Fort Meigs by the end of April\, 1813\, just in time for a British attack. Begin your journey in the Fort Meigs Visitor Center. Purchase tickets to explore the fort or shop the museum store. The administrative offices\, museum\, education center\, restrooms and vending machines are all found in the Visitor Center. All visits to Fort Meigs begin and end here. It is your gateway to life in 1813! Join us and experience history come to life. \n\nJackson Civil War Muster\nMore than 1\,500 participants bring the 1860s to life at the Jackson Civil War Muster\, attended by around 30\,000 spectators every year. Since 1984\, the annual two-day Muster has featured the reenactment of a different battle on each day. The battles alternate each year\, so last year’s battle will never be the same as this year’s. It’s a unique opportunity to relive a turning point in our country’s history\, and one that few reenactments can beat. \nA Weekend in the Past\nAn average morning at the Jackson Civil War Muster begins with battalion drills from both sides\, Union and Confederate. Events follow in the Historic Village of Jacksonburgh\, a battle encampment re-creation that houses historian lectures\, impersonators and period music in the hours leading up to the battle. The main attraction features 1\,500 reenactors armed with weapons\, uniforms and personalities that would have been commonplace during the Civil War. Guests and participants often join for a concert\, a military ball and an artillery “night fire” when the battels are over. Admission is free for spectators. For more information and a detailed schedule of the two-day event\, visit CivilWarMuster.org. \nJoin the Battle – Reenactor Information\nEnthusiastic reenactors are what brings the Jackson Civil War Muster to life. The 2 p.m. battles on Saturday and Sunday draws thousands of people who scale the hill\, sit in the hot sun and enjoy a moment in history. But\, the Civil War Muster is more than just battles. Here is an insiders list of the top things to bring\, see\, do\, and eat to truly EXPERIENCE the Muster. \nJackson Civil War Muster Gallery Preview\n\nView Full Gallery\nSee & Do\nBe sure and pick up a program. Once you have your program in hand\, you are ready to take a trip back in time. Be sure and take the walk to the settlers’ encampment. The reenactors set up tents\, cook over open fires and live the life of the Civil War Era. Next\, be sure and walk through the “village”. Here you will find craftsman showing off their skill and selling their wares. Everything from blacksmiths and dress makers to candle stick makers. Don’t miss out on the formal ball or Lincoln’s speech. \nFood\nYou can’t talk about the Civil War Muster without talking about food and most importantly the Root Beer and Lemonade stand. It’s easy to find on the corner of Brown and Randolph streets. It’s always easy to find\, just look for the longest line. The best part is once you purchase your bottle (they offer a variety of sizes) you can take it back and have it refilled at a discounted price. Usually very close to the root beer stand is the kettle corn. Don’t worry you won’t have any problem finding it. Just take a deep sniff and follow your nose to the sweet smell of cooking kettle corn. Once you have your drink you will of course need something to eat. You won’t be disappointed in the amount of choices of food. Food vendors line the main drag of the park and you can get everything from a pulled pork sandwich to deep fried Oreos. \nWhat to Bring\nAugust in Michigan is hot\, so come prepared. Bring something to sit on while watching the battle\, blankets or camp chairs work fine. Bring or be prepared to purchase water. There is little shade at Cascades Falls Park and you will want to stay hydrated. Wear\, and bring\, sunscreen and slip on your comfy walking shoes. If you have little ones\, or someone that is sensitive to loud noises\, consider bringing a set of ear plugs. The battle gets very loud. \n \nBonus Info\nThis is a FREE event. You can come and enjoy the Muster\, walk around\, see the battle and never have to spend a dime. Parking is run by the Boy Scouts and you will be directed into a spot that you will easily be able to get out of when you want to leave. This event happens no matter the weather so as long as you come prepared you will be able to experience everything the Civil War Muster has to offer. \nExplore Jackson\nExplore the pivotal role that Jackson played in the anti-slavery movement of the 1850s\, leading up to four years of American civil war. From striking monuments and locations to widely attended events that continue to honor an undeniable impact\, the stories of the Civil War hold a special significance within Jackson’s heart. \nAbout the Jackson Civil War Muster\nIn honor of the area’s widespread history\, the Jackson Civil War Muster was started in 1984. Fort Frederick was built in 1756 to defend the frontier against French and Indian raiding parties coming east from the French Fort Duquesne\, in what is now Pittsburgh. Fort Frederick is unique because of its strong stone wall\, large size\, and roomy barracks. Fort Frederick also saw service during the American Revolution as a prison for British soldiers. \nFor the next 131 years\, the fort and surrounding lands were farmed. During the Civil War\, Union troops were often stationed near the fort to guard the C & O Canal. In 1922\, the State of Maryland acquired the fort. During the Great Depression of the 1930s\, a company of the Civilian Conservation Corps restored the fort and began development of the state park. In 1975\, the park reconstructed two soldier’s barracks inside the fort. These barracks are open seven days a week from Memorial Day to Labor Day and on the weekends in the spring and fall. During those times\, staff and volunteers dressed in 18th century clothing occupy the fort\, demonstrating daily life in the 18th century. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Frederick French and Indian War Muster at Fort Frederick State Park in Big Pool\, Maryland. \nTags: Fort Frederick French and Indian War Muster\, French & Indian War Muster\, Fort Frederick French & Indian War Muster\, French and Indian War Muster \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

Visit the Monument at the Site Placed By the White Sulphur Rifles. This Battle was the First Confederate Victory following their devastating defeat at Gettysburg.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThis battle has also been called the Battle of White Sulphur Springs and the “Battle of the Law Books” since the Union Army was attempting to go to Lewisburg and capture a copy of the Virginia Supreme Court’s law books and court documents. The Virginia Court had used Lewisburg as a summer courthouse and the Federals wanted to turn those captured materials over to the new State of West Virginia’s Courts. The Federal loss at the Battle of Dry Creek prevented the capture of those court materials.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Dry Creek Reenactment at the Greenbrier State Forest near Caldwell\, West Virginia. \nTags: Battle of Dry Creek Reenactment\, Battle of Dry Creek Civil War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events
