During the early morning hours of July 7\, 1777\, British General John Burgoyne’s army met the resistance and bravery of Americans for the first time in the Battle of Hubbardton. A massive British invasion from Canada chased the Continental Army from Mount Independence south to Hubbardton. \nThe British strategy was to continue to New York and divide New England from the rest of the colonies. On a grassy hill\, the New Englanders made their stand. While the British held the field and technically won the battle\, their losses were so heavy that they gave up chasing the Americans to tend to their casualties. The Battle of Hubbardton marked the beginning of the end for Burgoyne and his great plan. On August 16 he suffered a stunning blow at the Battle of Bennington. On October 17\, 1777\, after the battles of Saratoga\, he surrendered with his entire Army\, an action that was of great importance in persuading the French to enter the war on the side of the Americans. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Hubbardton Revolutionary War Encampment Weekend at the Hubbardton Battlefield State Historic Site in Hubbardton\, VT. \nTags: Hubbardton Revolutionary War Encampment Weekend\, Hubbardton Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Vermont Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

General Horatio Gates\, their newly-appointed commander\, quickly sprung into action reorganizing\, resupplying\, and restoring the discipline of America’s northern defense. Gates put soldiers from New England\, New York\, New Jersey\, and Pennsylvania to work building earthworks all around the old Fort of Ticonderoga and constructing a navy to defend Lake Champlain. \n1776 was a year of rebuilding the Northern Army as part of building a new nation. While the Continental Congress discussed the finer points of declaring independence in Philadelphia\, the shattered remnants of the Continental Army which had come so close to capturing Quebec trickled back down to Fort Ticonderoga. Frost bitten\, starving\, and decimated by smallpox these soldiers began building up bulwarks and America’s first navy to defend their new nation. A new Continental Army emerged reinforced by soldiers from Pennsylvania\, Connecticut\, Massachusetts\, New Jersey\, New Hampshire and New York\, to guard Fort Ticonderoga. \nWhile the declaration itself was signed July 4th\, news of the document and the patriotic sentiment it carried would not reach the Northern Army at Fort Ticonderoga until July 28th. The new fortifications of Rattlesnake Hill were christened Mount Defiance to mark the occasion of the first reading of the Declaration to these soldiers. \nMark your calendar today for the Fort Ticonderoga Independence Day Weekend so you don’t miss this exciting French & Indian War event! \nTags: Fort Ticonderoga Independence Day Weekend\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nFort Ticonderoga Special Events\, History & Living History Daily Demonstrations

It was built in what is now Perrysburg\, Ohio\, on a bluff overlooking the Maumee River rapids. Ground was broken on February 2\, 1813 under the orders of General William Henry Harrison\, who wanted to fortify the region. Throughout the next three months professional soldiers and militiamen alike persevered through cold winter weather and mud that would at times be knee-deep. Despite horrid weather and disease in the camp\, the American army was able to complete Fort Meigs by the end of April\, 1813\, just in time for a British attack. Begin your journey in the Fort Meigs Visitor Center. Purchase tickets to explore the fort or shop the museum store. The administrative offices\, museum\, education center\, restrooms and vending machines are all found in the Visitor Center. All visits to Fort Meigs begin and end here. The 19th-century North American fur trade\, when the industry was at its peak of economic importance\, involved the development of elaborate trade networks and companies.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThis fur trade became one of the main economic ventures in North America attracting competition among the French\, British\, Dutch\, Spanish\, and Russians. Indeed\, in the early history of the United States\, capitalizing on this trade\, and removing the British stranglehold over it\, was seen as a major economic objective. Many Native American societies across the continent came to depend on the fur trade as their primary source of income. By the mid-1800s\, however\, changing fashions in Europe brought about a collapse in fur prices. The American Fur Company and some other companies failed. \nIn canoe-based fur trade areas\, one type of rendezvous is associated with the voyageur and canoe-based fur trade business which was largely in Canada and the states in the US around the Great Lakes\, especially in Minnesota and Wisconsin. These Voyageur Rendezvous were generally at a transportation transfer point within in a wilderness route that could not be traversed in one season run by and including the fur trade of only a single company. The transfer was the dominant reason for holding the rendezvous although they included other meetings and revelry.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nWho were the Voyageurs?\nVoyageur is a French word\, meaning “traveler”. Voyageurs were French Canadians who engaged in the transporting of furs by canoe during the fur trade years. From the beginning of the fur trade in the 1680s until the late 1870s\, the voyageurs were the blue-collar workers of the Montreal fur trade. At their height in the 1810s\, they numbered as many as 3\,000 men. Hired from farms and villages of the St. Lawrence Valley\, most spoke French and generally could not read or write. These men agreed to work for a number of years in exchange for pay\, equipment\, clothing and “room and board.” Most voyageurs would start working when they were in their early twenties and continue working into their sixties. Sometimes being a voyageur was a family tradition.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nHard working and tough\, voyageurs provided the power to move the canoes forward\, paddling at a rate of 40-60 strokes per minute\, often 16-18 hours a day. They were also required to carry a minimum of 180 pounds on their backs\, as both trade goods and furs were placed into standard weight bundles of 90 pounds each\, and each voyageur was required to carry two bundles\, though some carried even more. Twelve beaver hides paid the wages for a common voyageur for the year.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nAbout Fort Michilimackinac \nFort Michilimackinac was an 18th-century French\, and later British\, fort and trading post at the Straits of Mackinac; it was built on the northern tip of the lower peninsula of the present-day state of Michigan in the United States. Built around 1715\, and abandoned in 1783\, it was located along the Straits\, which connected Lake Huron and Lake Michigan of the Great Lakes of North America. \nPresent-day Mackinaw City developed around the site of the fort\, which has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Fort Michilimackinac was relocated to the new Fort Mackinac (don’t get them confused) on Mackinac Island during the American Revolution\, with some of the buildings moved across the ice in the winter of 1780-1781. The remaining structures were burnt to the ground. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Rendezvous at the Straits: Voyageur Culture at historic Colonial Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City\, Michigan. \nTags: Rendezvous at the Straits: Voyageur Culture\, Rendezvous at the Straits\, Voyageur Rendezvous at the Straits\, Michigan Rendezvous\, Michigan Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other Voyageur Rendezvous or Encampments

All re-enactors from the French & Indian War through the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade are welcome. \n\nMille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous\nSince 1993\, the Mille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous has been held in late June in a rolling field in the woods south of Mille Lacs Lake. The event produces a bloom of white canvas in the form of tents in the style of 200 years ago. The rendezvous has become a highly regarded living history event within Minnesota. It’s a regular destination for up to 150 living history participants living in a frontier city of 55 to 75 primitive camps\, and for many\, a yearly reunion. \nA big part of the experience is the camaraderie among the re-enactors\, known as voyageurs and buckskinners\, while the other is the passion of demonstrating skills and crafts of 200 years ago to kids of all ages. The fur trade era is well connected to the Mille Lacs area\, and there were multiple trading posts\, trails and portages present. And both Aitkin and Morrison Counties were named after fur traders. \nThe Rendezvous Camp is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.\, with a donation needed for entry by those over 10 years old. The location is six miles south of Isle or 16 miles north of Ogilvie on Hwy. 47\, then one mile west on Red Road. \nThe sights\, sounds and smells of 200 years ago come alive once again\, with the opportunity to bring home some Americana of the time that the participants make and sell. There will be food\, blacksmiths\, woodcarvers\, woodworkers\, ropemakers\, music\, a storyteller and surprises. It’s never known just who might show up. The event kicks off with a 21-gun national salute at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Impromptu skills demonstrations and music are ongoing throughout the event by many artisans and primitive campers. \nThis event has been presented each year since 1993 by the Mille Lacs Lake Historical society of Isle\, Minnesota. At the Fort Dobbs Militia Muster\, living history interpreters will recreate an 18th century militia muster during a free event at the Fort Dobbs Historic Site. The presentation on Saturday and Sunday will feature musket firing\, cooking and other parts of military camp life. Visitors will be invited to join the ranks and learn marching drills each afternoon. \n\nFort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment\nMilitary training was part of life for the citizen soldiers\, and the muster re-enactment will portray residents of “Fourth Creek Settlement\,” as Statesville then was known. All males ages 16-60 were required by law to serve in North Carolina’s militia during the French and Indian War. These civilians would gather at appointed times during the year to practice military drill and could be used to quickly form an army for defense at times of invasion. Historic interpreters representing the Rowan County militia will offer on-going displays of military camp life\, as well as featured musket and cannon firing demonstrations. \nFort Dobbs preserves and interprets the history of the fort and North Carolina’s role in the French and Indian War. It is the only state historic site associated with the war\, which lasted from 1754 to 1763. \nAdmission: $2.00 ($2.00 donation suggested) \nHours:\nSaturday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 a.m.\nSunday 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \nReenactors: Anyone wishing to participate in the Fort Dobbs War for Empire Reenactment needs to register. Reenactor Registration Form \nLocation:\nFort Dobbs State Historic Site\n438 Fort Dobbs Road\nStatesville\, NC 28625 \nDirections: From Interstate 40\, take either US 21 North (exit 151) or NC 115 North (exit. 150). From US 21\, turn left onto Fort Dobbs Road. From NC 115\, veer right onto S. Chipley Ford Road\, then turn right onto Fort Dobbs Road. \nFor More Information: Call 704-873-5882; Email: info@fortdobbs.org \n \nHistory of Fort Dobbs\nFort Dobbs was the only permanent frontier provincial fort in the colony of North Carolina. Construction began in late 1755 and was completed one year later. It served as the military headquarters for the frontier company (approximately fifty men) as well as a safe-haven for settlers. The fort was attacked on the night of February 27\, 1760 when more than 70 Cherokees were repelled. The garrison suffered two men wounded\, as well as having one colonial boy killed. The Cherokee were reported to have lost 10-12 men killed and wounded. By the end of 1761\, the British had essentially won the war and only thirty troops remained at the fort. Colonial leaders disbanded the troops and removed all the supplies of the garrison as settlement moved far west of the fort. The neglected fort was in ruins by 1766. \nReconstruction of Fort Dobbs\nSoon after protecting the site of Fort Dobbs in 1909\, the Daughters of the American Revolution recognized the need to reconstruct the blockhouse. Following initial archaeological investigations in the 1960’s and ’70’s the site became a State Historic Site\, but with several key questions about the original structure still unanswered\, no immediate reconstruction effort was planned.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nIn 2003\, the reincorporated non-profit Friends of Fort Dobbs took up the vision of then-site manager Beth Hill to begin an effort to rebuild. More than a decade of hard work ensued. The Friends undertook a fundraising campaign to fund the effort and co-operated with State officials\, historians\, historic building specialists\, architects\, and noted archaeologist Dr. Larry Babits to develop feasible\, historically sound plans and the capital needed to make Fort Dobbs stand on the banks of Fourth Creek once again. \nFollowing several other facility improvements to the site\, ground was broken for the new fort in August of 2016. A mix of modern and 18th Century construction techniques have been employed to meet the challenge of building a structure that must simultaneously meet modern building standards while also approximating an entirely hand-build piece of military engineering from 260 years ago. We hope\, with your support\, to have Fort Dobbs open as a living history exhibit on a grand scale by early 2019![/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment at the Fort Dobbs State Historic Site in Statesville\, North Carolina. \nTags: Fort Dobbs Militia Muster\, Fort Dobbs Militia Muster French and Indian War Reenactment\, Militia Muster\, French and Indian War Reenactment\, French & Indian War Reenactment \nView other War of 1812 Encampments & Reenactments

Daily hours are from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with the Raids reenactments at 2:00 pm daily. The Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment is sponsored by the Friends of Fort Harrod and is the Park’s signature event each year and promises to be bigger and better than ever before! \n\nOld Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid\nMany reenactors and volunteers work hard to re-create the actual look and feel of a real Shawnee attack upon Fort Harrod which might have occurred in March 1777. It began a year long seige on the Fort during which many settlers would die violent deaths. The Shawnee killed or stole all of the settlers livestock and burn their crops. The year of 1777 became known as the “Year of Despair” and one can only imagine the terror and hardships the settlers in the Fort had to endure. But\, the Fort held\, attack after attack. Had it not\, there would have been no Harrods Town\, no Harrodsburg and no State of Kentucky. \nFort Harrod was never overrun. At one point they nearly ran out of gun powder which gave rise to the famous “Powder Run” by George Rogers Clark\, James Harrod and others to obtain the much needed powder. They were successful and the Fort was saved! \nIn addition to the Raids reenactment\, the Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment living history\, colonial music\, cannon fire and Native attacks on the fort. Colonial entertainers will perform all weekend. After the portrayal of this historic battle and what could have been here at Harrod’s Fort the public will be invited to the Native village to watch the adoption ceremonies for the women and children as they could have been carried out if Harrod had fallen. This is a very authentic\, educational and entertaining experience that is not to be missed. \nHours: Gate open 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. both days\nAdmission: Regular Park Admission\nAdults $7.00\nSeniors $6.00\nChildren $4.00 (6-12)\nDiscounts for Military & Veterans $1.00 off \nSATURDAY\nLiving History takes place all day both days.\n9:00 Gates Open\, followed by a Cannon blast\n10:00 Native Drumming demonstrations\n11:00 Life of a Settler\n12:00 Native Attack on the Fort\n1:00 Native Practice of Capture and Adoption\n1:50 Cannon firing demonstration\n2:00 Chief Logan\n3:00 Daniel Boone\, presented by Steve Caudill\n4:00 Native cooking demonstrations\n5:00 Second Native Raid on the fort (this time they take the fort)! \nSUNDAY\n9:00 Gates Open\n9:00 Sunday Morning Service\n10:00 Native Drumming demonstrations\n12:00 Life of a Settler\n1:00 Native Practice of Capture and Adoption\, by Don Shaver\n2:00 Native Attack on the Fort\n3:00 Daniel Boone\, presented by Steve Caudill\n5:00 Gates Close \n \nLocation\nOld Fort Harrod State Park\n100 S College Street\nHarrodsburg\, KY 40330 \nFor More Information: Call 859-734-3314; Email fortharrod@ky.gov \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment in June at Old Fort Harrod State Park in Harrodsburg\, Kentucky. \nTags: Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid\, Old Fort Harrod Settlement & Raid\, Old Fort Harrod Settlement and Raid Reenactment\, Old Fort Harrod Settlement & Raid Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactments \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

It is your gateway to life in 1813! Battle reenactments are held both days\, complete with cannons. It’s a spectacular display that you won’t want to miss! \n\nOld Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment\nThe Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment is one of the largest events of its type in Pennsylvania. Some great scenarios are planned for the Antietam commemoration that include the Dunker Church\, Sunken Road\, and a special Saturday night non-spectator Burnside’s Bridge. \nHours: Sat & Sun 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. \nAdmission: Adult $10; Seniors $9; Students (Age 6 to 18) $5; Under Age 6 FREE \nLocation\nOld Bedford Village\n220 Sawblade Road\nBedford\, PA 15522 \nFor More Informaton: tel: 814-623-1156 or 800-238-4347; e-mail: village15522@gmail.com \nOld Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment is an independent event organized by Old Bedford Village and hosted by Birney’s Division Civil War Reenactors. \nReenactor Information (select links below) \nReeactor Registration Form\nReenactor Rules\nCivil War Sutler Registration Form\nAll goods offered must be 19th century related. Only Period tents are permitted in the Village. \nAbout the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment\nEach June\, picturesque Old Bedford Village plays host to the clash of the Blue and the Gray during their annual Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment and Living History event. \nOld Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment Mini Gallery\n\n \nWhile America’s deadliest war never actually reached the town of Bedford\, as General Robert E Lee’ Confederate Army invaded Pennslyvania in the summer of 1863\, the threat facing this area was very real. Just north of Bedford near the town of Loysburg\, a network of defensive trenches dug to protext Loysburg Gap survives to this day. The trenches were occupied in June of 1863 as residents of the area feared the invasion could target the farms and livestock of Morrison’s Cove and the railroad in Altoona to support Confederate troop in the field. \nEach year\, the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment features hundreds of reenactors from state across the region. These living historians have a true passion for the Civil War time period they portray\, and have spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours researching what and where to obtain the equipment and knowledge needed to portray the life of the common soldier serving in that war. \nDuring the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment\, visitors can visit the camp sites of soldiers serving in both the Union and Confederate armies. They can witness what camp life was like\, learn how the soldiers passed the time when they weren’t marching or fighting\, and speak with the reenactors (and don’t worry\, they do like to talk about this favorite topic). Civilian life is also represented as many women and children also attend the event in period attire. Each afternoon a battle reenactment will unfold\, and visitors will have the opportunity to see first-hand the sights\, sounds\, and smells of battle. No history book or television documentary can give a viewer as realistic an experience as attending a Civil War reenactment in person. \nWhat makes the Old Bedford Village Civil War Reenactment even more special is the Village itself. Because of the many original 17th and 18th century structures on site\, Old Bedford Village truly presents the image of a town that ha been overrun by two great armies\, with residents forced from their homes as soldiers move in\, camp in their yards\, and procure their food and livestock. Visitors can tour the building. Some will be occupied by the reenactors while others will feature Old Bedford Village’s skilled tradesmen and artisans who can explain their craft such as blacksmithing\, spinning and weaving\, tin smithing\, candle making and more. \nAbout Old Bedford Village\nCross the Claycomb covered bridge and step back in time to the 18th century at Old Bedford Village. Stroll through the Village of over 36 period workshops and log cabins for a real immersion experience. Call in on our period clothed crafts men and women\, learn about Bedford’s historic past…allow time for a light snack in the Village Tavern\, perhaps a horse and buggy ride around the Village? Be sure to check out dates for our special events on our website at www.oldbedfordvillage.com If you’d like a new way to look at history\, come see a historical reenactment at Old Bedford Village\, we’ll get you so close to the past\, you’ll be able to touch\, smell and hear it! We are busy helping the Fort’s caretakers\, the City of Detroit Recreation Department with this effort in two major ways. First\, we present high quality events that provide ways for the public to enjoy Historic Fort Wayne and see glimpses of how it would have looked when it was garrisoned. We are also very busy preserving and restoring as much of the structures and facilities as possible on the Fort grounds. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Historic Fort Wayne Civil War Days will at Fort Wayne in Detroit\, Michigan. \nTags: Historic Fort Wayne Civil War Days\, Civil War Days at Historic Fort Wayne\, Michigan Civil War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

The first weekend in June\, Fort de Chartres State Historic Site hosts the largest rendezvous in Illinois or the Midwest with over a thousand participants\, hundreds of encampments\, and thousands of visitors joining in on the festivities. Based on the traditional French fur trapper’s rendezvous where trappers and traders would meet at a predetermined location to trade furs for necessities\, these rendezvous were the highlight of the fur trapper’s year and now the Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous is the highlight of Fort de Chartres’s extensive calendar of historical events and activities. \n\nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous\nThe Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous offers participants and visitors alike a glimpse into the period from 1740-1840\, a part of Illinois’ past when it was governed not only by France but by Great Britain and the United States as well. Costumed reenactors portray a variety of personas including colonial military units\, mountain men\, Native Americans\, settlers\, merchants\, and more. Historical demonstrations are located at various locations on the grounds and there are periodic demonstrations that include period music\, military drills\, and musket and cannon competitions. \n@ Fort de Chartres State Historic Site\, at 1350 IL Route 155\, 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher. The event is open and free to general public with special event parking for this event just $5 a car. Donations welcomed. For more information contact the site at (618) 284-7230 or email lesamisdufortdechartres@gmail.com. \nThe two-day popular Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous features shooting competitions\, military drills\, dancing\, music\, food\, and traders of eighteenth-century-style goods. The boom of cannons\, the smell of campfires and a parade of colorful uniforms will transport visitors back to the 1700s. The Rendezvous features 18th century military units\, traditional craft demonstrations\, period music and dancing\, black powder shooting events and cannon firings – all from the time when France controlled what is now Illinois. Visitors can try their hand at throwing a tomahawk\, buy hand-made crafts\, learn about French kitchen gardens\, and watch swordsmen duel\, taste delicious food and much more. \nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous Mini-Gallery\n[/fusion_gallery]\n \nAs Fort de Chartres is an Illinois Historic Preservation Agency site\, there is a wide variety of interpretive activities that can be found throughout the grounds. These activities run continuously throughout both days. In the Native Crafts area\, visitors can learn first hand the arts of bow and arrow making\, hide tanning\, basket weaving\, the use of native foods and herbs\, pottery\, the construction of wigwams\, and the history of how and why the fur trade became such an important frontier industry. There are also archery demonstrations and competitions. \nThe Colonial Area features demonstrations that include spinning\, dyeing\, the use of looms\, woodworking\, weaving\, quilting\, rope making\, coopering\, and blacksmiths. Located in the Fort buildings themselves are a French Patron (River Boatman\,) a French Marines quarters\, a Jesuit missionary in the Fort’s Chapel\, and the Piethman Museum. A French Colonial garden\, oxen\, and baked goods for sale from a working stone oven can be found near the demonstration areas. Throughout the grounds are demonstrations by independent merchants illustrating their skills\, and displaying and selling their creations. \nFort de Chartres began as a French military outpost. The reconstructed stone fort represents the third fort built by the French\, the first two wooden forts having been destroyed by the Mississippi River. It was this stone fort that the French turned over to the British in 1765 after the end of the French and Indian War. The British abandoned this fort\, moving their territorial headquarters to the nearby town of Kaskaskia. The abandoned stone fort was visited by George Rogers Clark during his expedition during the Revolutionary War. Representing this military tradition are a number of military reenactment units and marching bands representing all three colonial powers. Rifle\, musket\, and artillery competitions are all part of the scheduled programs. \nPeriod music can be found at any time during Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous. A center stage is set up within the fort and features various musical groups throughout the day. Many of these groups can be found entertaining visitors throughout the grounds when they are not featured on the main stage. In addition marching military bands with drums\, flutes\, bagpipes\, and other instruments can be seen patrolling the grounds. \nHundreds of tents\, teepees\, and other primitive shelters become the weekend home for the over one thousand reenactors who come to the Fort De Chartres June Rendezvous from across the country. Visitors can gain a lot of insight into the life styles of the fur trapping era by exploring the Primitive Camp. The reenactors are a friendly bunch and are happy to talk about the specifics of their camp and the personas they portray. Sutlers\, merchants\, and trade blankets are located throughout the grounds selling many period related goods that are only available at this type of event. \n \nLocation\nFort de Chartres State Historic Site\n350 State Route 155\nPrairie du Rocher\, IL 62277\nDirections: 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher\, about an hours drive south of St. Louis. This was a defining moment in the history of our state and nation. The First Siege of Fort Meigs was a pivotal fight that would help turn the tide of war and usher in a series of American victories that would secure the Ohio frontier. General William Henry Harrison wrote that day\, “It is at length reduced to certainty that the enemy are about to carry into effect their threatened attack on this post” and urged his men “To your posts then\, fellow Soldiers\, and remember that the eyes of your Country are upon you!” \n \n\nAt 2 o’clock in the morning the British opened their artillery upon our garrison from their gun-boats… At 8 o’clock they hoisted the red flag at their lower battery and commenced firing with 24-\, 12- and 6-pounders\, and eight inch mortars. They fired at us this day 240 shot and shells; did very little damage. They continued firing shells through the night but not often\, just enough to keep our camp from rest. We keep up a heavy fire on them all day from different parts of our camp. \n~ Captain Daniel Cushing\, 2nd Regiment\, U.S. Artillery – May 1\, 1813 \n\nAbout Fort Meigs & Fort Meigs Events \nLocation\nFort Meigs\n29100 W. Blazing the trail presented extraordinary difficulties – the route through the wilderness was a hunter’s trace that was too narrow for a wagon. The task was to combine The task was to combine many trails into one continuous route by clearing underbrush and overhanging foliage. \nWhen Daniel Boone and his men reached the Kentucky River on April 1\, 1775\, they quickly moved to establish Kentucky?s second settlement–the site still known as Fort Boonesborough. \nLocationFort Boonesborough State Park4375 Boonesborough Rd.Richmond\, Ky. 40475 \nFor more information about 1778 Siege of Fort Boonesborough Reenactment: Phone 859-527-3131 ext 216 or email Fort Manager bill.farmer@ky.gov \nMark your calendar so you don’t miss the next Spring Trade Days at Fort Boonesborough at Fort Boonesborough State Park in Richmond\, Kentucky on Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday and Sunday). \nTags: Spring Trade Days at Fort Boonesborough\, Spring Trade Days\, Colonial Market Fair\, 18th Century Market Fair \nView other Market Fair & Trade Fair Events

The long-running Memorial Day Weekend event is both a ‘drama’ and festival\, a pre-1840s primitive rendezvous\, and a pow wow! \nPublic Welcome – Free Admission\nVisitors can travel through history without charge. Learn about history\, join in on the games or browse at the various trade blankets. \nPre-1840 Logan Hills Rendezvous\nIn conjunction with the Logan Hills Festival you can experience a pre-1840 Fur Trade Era Rendezvous encampment with all the trimmings. Come see where Simon Kenton and Blue Jacket spent many years of their lives exploring and making their homes. The encampment includes Mountain Men\, Fur Traders and Native Americans in period dress. See what it was like to live back in the 1700s and early 1800s. \nRendezvous occurred each year when the fur traders\, the fur trade companies\, and the Native Americans (Indians) would meet to sell their furs\, get paid\, gather supplies for the next year\, as well as drink\, socialize and catch up with their friends before they started back to work. \nToday\, people all over the country reenact these rendezvous. Many are pre-1840 events that require all reenactors to dress and camp in the primitive style of the era depicted. For some\, it’s just “primitive” camping with period clothes of the type used during the Fur Trade Era of the 1840s. All shelters used are of the type used during these times as well. \nDuring a rendezvous\, there is always an air of friendliness and fun. People are relaxing\, eating\, doing period crafts or playing period games. They are always more than willing to share the history of what they are doing with other campers or visitors. If you are a visitor and new to ‘rendezvous’\, be sure to visit with the reenactors and ask questions during public hours. \nLogan Hills Festival and Pre-1840 Rendezvous Mini Gallery\n\n \nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Saturday Schedule Details”]\nAll Day Yard sales in Zanesfield\nAll Day Craft\, Collectible Booths and Food Vendors\n9:00 Library Book Sale\n9:30 Dr. Earl Sloan Double Tourney (Petanque Court)\n10:30 Archery Competition (Encampment)\n11:00 Citizen of the Year (Shelter House)\n12:00 Grand Entry – Woodland Gathering (Main Dance Circle)\n1:00-4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n2:00 Taloga Outdoor Drama (Drama Area -Weather permitting)\n4:00 Woodland Gathering Resumes (Main Dance Circle)\n4:30 Hawk and Knife Competition (Encampment)\n5:00 -9:00 Hog Roast\n5:30 Woodland Gathering Closing Ceremony (Dance Circle)\n6:00 Clarence Gibson Shooting Contest abd Finals (Petanque Court)\n6:00 to 10:00 Musical Entertainment by American Entertainment (Shelter House)\n8:00 Encampment only is closed to the public[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]\n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Sunday Schedule Details”]\nAll Day Craft\, Collectible Booths and Food Vendors and Scavenger Hunt Doubles Tourney (Petanque Court)\n10:00 Church Service All Welcome (Encampment)\n12:00 Grand Entry – Woodland Gathering (Main Dance Circle)\n1:00-4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n2:00 Kids Games (Encampment\n4:30 Closing Ceremony- Woodland Gathering (Main Dance Circle)\n5:00 Taloga Outdoor Drama (Drama Area – Weather permitting)\n8:00 Encampment only is closed to the public at 8:00 pm\nSchedules may change without notice[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]\n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Monday Schedule Details”]\nAll Day Craft\, Collectible Booths and Food Vendors\n7:30 to 11:00 Pancake & Sausage Breakfast (Shelter House)\n9:00 Parade through the village to Zanesfield Cemetery for Memorial Service\n9:30 Open Court Play (Petanque Court\n10:00 Musical Entertainment (Entertainment Stage)\n11:30 Pickers Auction (Auction Stage)\n1:00 – 4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n11:30 Pickers Auction (Auction Stage)\n11:30 Country Luncheon Sponsored by the Zanesfield United Methodist Church (Church Downtown)\n12:30 Lizard Pull (Encampment)\n1;00 -4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n2:00 Taloga Outdoor Drama (Drama Area – Weather permitting)\nMusical Entertainment to be Announced\nBring Lawn Chairs for your entertainment comfort[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nCamping\nThere is an encampment organized by the Mountain Men Rendezvous.
