The reenactment takes place on the weekend in January that is closest to the original date of January 15-16\, 1781. \nOn the March we relive Morgan’s activities during the two-day race with the enemy while also planning how to use his soldiers to win a great victory at a place called the Cowpens. Hikers and bikers (non-motorized) may go the entire route or choose only the segments that interest them. Horseback riders are welcome to participate as horses add to the excitement along the route. Reenactors and historians will describe what was happening at that time over 200 years ago as the militia units were mustering and moving to help Morgan’s Continentals defend their homeland against British invaders. \nTwo Day March: The first leg of the march is about 13 and one half miles. The Sunday portion\, ending at the Cowpens National Battlefield\, is about 11 and one half miles. \nRegistration is required: Marchers should pre-register with the Town of Pacolet (864-474-950) or email eharris@townofpacolet.com. Marchers will be asked to sign a waiver of liability for the sponsors and landowners located along the route. There is no charge for marcher but donations will be accepted. \nTransportation: It is not necessary that you walk the entire distance. There will be horse drawn wagons and carriages for those that prefer not to walk. \nMarchers should wear warm clothes suitable for the weather and bring their own snacks. The marchers will see the beautiful country from Grindal Shoals to Cowpens National Battlefield. The Morgans Victory March is a great way to get an idea how the weather\, natural conditions\, and distance helped shape how the Victory of Cowpens turned out! \nOn this weekend tour\, we will march along the same route at about the same pace that Morgan used as he moved his army on January 15th and 16th in 1781. This year the National Battlefield will award a “Morgan’s Flying Army” medal to first-time marchers that complete the entire route! \nDuring Morgans Victory March\, reenactors and historians will describe what was happening in 1781 as the militia units were mustering and moving to help Morgan’ Continentals defend their homeland against the British invaders. \nStarting Location Grindal Shoals\, South Carolina https://goo.gl/maps/QDua9NhqQ6C2 Geo Coordinates: 34°53’18.5″N 81°38’35.4″W\, \nMorgan and Grindal Shoals Until just the morning before Tarleton crossed at Easterwood\, General Morgan and his little army had been camped at Grindal Shoals\, just 5 miles downstream from Easterwood and about 7 miles from the Pacolet Mills bridge. Morgan and his army had arrived at Grindal Shoals on Christmas Day\, about three weeks before. On the night of Jan. 14\, Morgan had received word that Tarleton and his army were coming after him. The next morning\, on Jan. 15\, Morgan had started his army on the march in an effort to get away from the British. His army marched up the Green River Road. Today\, some of that road is known as the Asbury Highway or Hwy 211. His army entered the Asbury Highway portion just beside where Wagstop Plantation is located today. After a few miles\, they turned right on the part of the Green River Road that is known today as “Goucher School Road”. This is just before where Knuckles Chapel Church is located today. \nJust one day behind them\, the British army marched up the Quarter Round Road until they too came into the Green River Road at an intersection near to the present location of Knuckles Chapel. Now\, both armies were on the same road to their deadly meeting at Cowpens. \nEnding Location Cowpens National Battlefield 338 New Pleasant Road Gaffney\, SC 29341 (864) 461-2828 \nThe Battle of Cowpens was a very important American victory against overwhelming odds. The Battleground is about 9 miles northwest of Cowpens. The American General Daniel Morgan did all he could do to get away from the British army under Tarleton. As we have seen at Easterwood and Grindal Shoals\, the British army was just moving too fast for Morgan to get away. Morgan realized that Tarleton was going to catch him. He decided to stop and fight him at a place of his own choosing rather than to let Tarleton catch his army as it was crossing the Broad River only five miles away. \nMorgan planned a brilliant strategy for the battle that is still studied in Military Schools to this day. The battle was fought in the early morning on January 17\, 1781 and barely lasted an hour. It was a complete Patriot victory over the British army. The Patriot forces under General Morgan crushed and destroyed the British army. It contributed to the British surrender at Yorktown\, Virginia ten months later. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Morgans Victory March Reenactment and be part of “Morgans’ Flying Army!” \nTags: Morgans Victory March Reenactment\, Morgans Victory March\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

None were more important than the Buncombe Turnpike built in 1828 that ran through the mountains at Warm Springs\, North Carolina. This area would see many conflicts throughout the war\, with both sides trying to gain control of the area. \nThe Civil War in Madison County\, North Carolina\nBecause Madison County was a “border county” in a “border state” during the Civil War\, there are many examples of communities as well as families divided in their allegiances. There were no major battles in Madison County although both armies moved through the area and Madison County furnished troops for both sides. A few skirmishes were fought within the County: one at Cuffey Field on Spring Creek and a second on the hotel grounds at Warm Springs (the former name of the town of Hot Springs). Each year since 2008\, the Hot Springs Resort & Spa has hosted a Civil War re-enactment of that skirmish\, the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, on the first weekend of November. \n\nReenactor registration is $5.00 for pre-registration by October 15\, $15.00 after that date.\nIf you intend on renting a cabin or room during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment weekend\, you should reserve it soon as they will fill up fast\nAn evening meal will be served for pre-registered re-enactors. Gates are open to the public Saturday and Sunday 9a – 5p. A small gate fee applies. All proceeds from the gate go towards the upkeep of Fort Crevecoeur Park. \nIf you wish to be a participant in this event and are new to our gathering family please feel free to contact us for details; we would love to have you join us. \nExperience frontier life from 1680 to 1850 at the Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous. The two-day event brings together history enthusiasts and curious spectators to raise money and awareness of the fort’s history. \nLa Salle and his men built the original fort in 1680 while constructing a boat to travel the Mississippi River. According to historians\, the fort was burned down. The exact location of the original fort has been the subject of great debate since Peoria was founded. A reconstructed fort now commemorates Illinois’ first European-built structure. \nTwice a year in spring and fall\, the not-for-profit Fort Crevecoeur\, Inc. holds Rendezvous Days as a main fundraiser to maintain the fort and surrounding park. But the primary goal of the event is to give people a taste of life in the old days\, Hanse said. \nMen and women dressed as traders and Native Americans sold items like arrowheads\, walking sticks and beaded jewelry. Tents and tepees dotted the park and participants demonstrated trades like old-fashioned rope making and knife crafting. \nLocation\nFort Crevecoeur Park\n301 Lawnridge Dr\,\nCreve Coeur\, IL 61610\nPhone:(309) 694-3193 \nContact\nFort Crevecoeur Park Office\n309-694-3193 \n \nAbout Fort Crevecoeur Park\nFort Crevecoeur Park is located near Peoria and includes a reconstructed Fort Crevecoeur (about nine miles from the original location)\, a museum and a campground. French explorer Robert de La Salle (1643-87) helped the Peoria Indians build a fort in 1860 to defend themselves against the Iroquois. LaSalle made a deal with the local tribes to protect them from the Iroquois tribal league. LaSalle fostered good relationships with the tribes—Fort Creve Coeur wasn’t around too long though—this original site quickly became abandoned as Tonti left to fortify Starved Rock. Tonti’s mission to Starved Rock was to only end in failure though. However\, the Fort Crevecoeur’s seven man garrison quit their fort\, destroyed the fortifications\, and made a trek to Canada. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous and Gathering at Fort Crevecoeur Park in Creve Couer\, Illinois. \nTags: Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous\, Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous & Gathering\, Fort Crevecoeur Rendezvous\, Illinois Rendezvous\, Illinois Voyageur Rendezvous\, Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous

\nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Crevecoeur French and Indian War Reenactment in Creve Couer\, IL. \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

The military units we represent are the 1st North Carolina Volunteers (the Bethel Regiment) and the 11th North Carolina Regiment. This allows flexibility to adapt to any reenactment period and still remain historically correct. 1st NC Volunteers often coordinate their efforts with state and national historic sites and events\, such as the Spring Fort Macon Civil War Reenactment. \nAbout The Battle of Fort Macon in 1862\nThe Siege of Fort Macon took place from March 23 to April 26\, 1862\, on the Outer Banks of Carteret County\, North Carolina. It was part of Union Army General Ambrose E. Burnside’s North Carolina Expedition during the American Civil War.\nIn late March\, Major General Burnside’s army advanced on Fort Macon\, a fort that commanded the channel to Beaufort\, 35 miles southeast of New Bern. The Union force engaged the fort with siege works and on April 25 opened an accurate fire on the fort\, soon breaching the masonry walls. Within a few hours the fort’s scarp began to collapse\, and in late afternoon the Confederate commander\, Colonel Moses J. White\, ordered the raising of a white flag. Burnside’s terms of surrender were accepted\, and the Federal troops took possession of the fort the next morning. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Spring Fort Macon Civil War Reenactment in Atlantic Beach\, North Carolina. \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

SUMMARY:Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:Relive history at the Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment on March 18-19\, 2017 at the Picacho Peak State Park in Eloy\, Arizona. Join with thousands of spectators who come to watch the reenactment of the Arizona Civil War skirmish\, the Battle of Picacho Pass — and the New Mexico battles of Glorieta and Val Verde. \n[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAGVLdrZ5Y4&width=540&height=333[/embedyt] \nVisitors travel from around the country to experience the Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment with its three exciting and historic battle reenactments complete with lifestyles of the soldiers in the southwest during the 1860s. More than 200 reenactors come from many states to camp at the park with their authentic Civil War camping gear. \nFood and beverage concessions will be available. Visitors are encouraged to bring plenty of water\, as well as lawn chairs\, hats and sunscreen. Pets are not permitted (they don’t much care for cannon and musket fire!). \n \nIn addition to the battle reenactments\, spectators can see artillery and cavalry demonstrations\, presentations on women in the Civil War and soldiering in the Southwest\, plus the “period-appropriate” musical entertainment. \nThe Battle of Picacho Peak\nCivil War battles across America were well documented and history teachers carefully covered each battle across the East Coast\, but few ever thought what was happening in the West during this time. A battle of the American Civil War was a skirmish fought near a rocky spire called Picacho Peak located between Phoenix and Tucson\, Arizona. The new highway follows the old wagon route that passed Picacho in 1862. \nIn 1860 the New Mexico Territory\, which consisted of the lands that would become the states of Arizona and New Mexico\, was sparsely populated. When the Civil War broke out in 1861\, the U.S. Government recalled the majority of its troops from the West to build the Union army for the fighting in the east. Henry Hopkins Sibley joined the Confederacy and convinced Jefferson Davis that he would raise an army in Texas and invade New Mexico territories. He proposed that mineral resources would fill the coffers of the Confederacy and fund their massive war effort. \n \nTucson was the capitol of the Confederate Territory of Arizona between February 20\, 1862 when some 120 Texas Rebels took control of El Presidio San Agustin del Tucson and late April\, when the 1\,800-strong Union army of the California Volunteers entered this dusty\, dirty little Mexican town without firing a shot. \nDuring that short period\, 50 miles NW of Tucson\, an engagement was fought between a Union cavalry patrol and a party of Confederate pickets from Tucson. Every year in March\, dedicated men and women from all over come together at Picacho Peak State Park to reenact The Battle of Picacho Peak. \nMark your calendar so you won’t miss any of the action at the Picacho Peak Civil War Reenactment at the Picacho Peak State Park in Eloy\, Arizona! \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

On the morning of September 18\, the forces converged on Ticonderoga. Over the next few days Colonel John Brown’s force captured the British blockhouse at the top of Mount Defiance\, secured the release of 118 American prisoners and captured nearly 300 British soldiers. \nBrown’s men also burned several of the Fort’s outbuildings and destroyed about 150 batteaux. However the American forces soon realized that without reinforcements and additional supplies\, a direct attack on the Fort would not succeed\, and on September 22 Colonel Brown’s force called off the attack. Less than a month later\, the British army surrendered at Saratoga. \nIn early November\, cut off\, short of food\, and the weather getting colder the British-held posts of Fort Ticonderoga and Mount Independence made the hard decision to withdraw back to Canada. \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events
