DESCRIPTION:2019 Battle of Dominguez Hill Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n                                    \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                    \nDon’t miss the 173rd Anniversary Battle of Dominguez Hill Reenactment on October 5-6\, 2019 at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum in Compton\, California. Join us as we commemorate another year of a historic battle that was fought here in the property of the Dominguez Rancho; The 1846 Battle of Dominguez Hills also know as the Battle of the Old Woman’s Gun. In this two day event you will be able to experience the reenactment of the battle as well as the many aspects of life in Southern California during the 1800’s and the Mexican-American War. \n\nBattle of Dominguez Hill Reenactment aka Battle of the Old Woman’s Gun\nLearn about some local early Southern California History at the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. We will be having a living history weekend covering The Battle of Dominguez Rancho or The Battle of the Old Woman’s Gun (October 8\, 1846) which was a military engagement of the Mexican–American War (1846 to 1848)\, that took place right here in Southern California near Los Angeles in 1846. The battle took place within Manuel Dominguez’s 75\,000-acre Rancho San Pedro\, which today encompasses the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum. \nThe public is invited to experience the Battle Reenactment as well as many aspects of life during the 1800s\, which include: military encampments\, vendors\, music and dance. Children’s activities will include: corn husk doll making\, tortilla making\, cattle roping\, adobe brick making and gold panning. By strategically running horses across the dusty Dominguez hills while transporting their single small cannon to various sites\, Carrillo and his troops convinced the Americans they had encountered a large enemy force.
