DESCRIPTION:2018 Black Hills Rendezvous\n\nRate This Event\n \n                                    \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                    \nJoin us for our annual Black Hills Rendezvous on May 30 – June 3\, 2018 at Flag Flag Mountain/Hughes Draw\, northwest of Hill City\, South Dakota. At the Black Hills Rendezvous\, a primitive camp\, club members show what life was like in America before 1840. The public is welcome\, but to partake in Black Hills Rendezvous events like black powder shooting\, primitive archery and knife and tomahawk throwing\, historical clothing is required. As long as someone makes a good-faith effort to give the appearance of pre-1840s mountain man attire\, that will allow them to participate. The Black Hills offers many accesible trails for your riding pleasure\, so be sure to check out the South Dakota Dept. of Tourism for horse trail info. Please contact the state of South Dakota for rules and regulations of coggins requirements\, etc. Certified Weed-Free hay is required. \nDogs are also welcome\, but must be on a leash at all times. Controlled behavior is the responsibilty of the owner\, and quiet dogs are appreciated by all. \nPermit: This event is operated under a special use permit on the Black Hills National Forest. \nCamping or Facility Information\nRestrooms provided. Plan ahead for weather changes.\nBoth rustic and modern camping areas\, with separate horse camp.\nLimited firewood and potable water will be provided. Scrub wood is also available on-site\, however no cutting of live trees will be permitted. (Prescription eyeglasses are allowed) Please help us keep the spirit of the rendezvous by wearing your period dress and gear at all times. Keep all modern conveniences hidden or covered up. All drinks must be in period containers.\n· Vehicles are allowed in camp to unload and load\, and are limited to one hour. Please unload\, drive out\, and return to set up.\n· Take responsibility for your camp\, children\, pets\, and guests.\n· Pets must be leashed and under control.\n· Do not cut live trees. Limited water and firewood is available.\n· Campfires must not be left unattended.\n· Remove and replace the sod for your fire pit. When breaking camp\, scatter fire pit rocks and return firewood to central piles.\n· Keep safety in mind at all times. No loaded firearms allowed in camp; knife and hawk throwing in designated areas only.\n· Youngsters must have adult supervision when practicing shooting or knife & hawk throwing.\n· No alcohol or smoking in shooting areas.\n· All local\, state and federal laws are in effect.\n· You are expected to take all trash with you when you leave. Fort Atkinson hosts several living-history weekends a year that feature volunteers recreating the lives of the soldiers\, artisans\, and civilians that lived in and around the outpost. Interpretive hours are from 10am until 5pm on all living-history days. \nFort Atkinson\, the first military post west of the Missouri River\, is seven blocks east of U.S. Highway 75 near Fort Calhoun. A park entry permit is required for all vehicles entering the park and may be purchased at the park. A fee of $2 for ages 13 and up and $1 for ages 3-12 is required to enter the Harold W. Andersen Visitor Center. \n[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afzZBn-N6Kk&width=650&height=400&[/embedyt] \nFort Atkinson Living History Weekend in June\nIt operated the first school\, farm\, sawmill\, hospital and library in what decades later would be Nebraska. Years earlier\, the Lewis and Clark expedition’s historic first meeting with American Indians was held on its bluff. \nLife at an 1820s military post is depicted at this Fort Atkinson Living History Weekend in September and other  Living History Weekends at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park that take place from May through September each year. \nFrom 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.\, volunteers will demonstrate period trades\, such as blacksmithing\, carpentry\, tinsmithing and coopering\, and crafts such as quilting\, spinning and weaving. Members of the American Mountain Men group will have an encampment on the grounds\, portraying the fur trappers who helped settle the region. There will be a presentation at 1 p.m. on both days by Mark W. DESCRIPTION:2018 Snowy Mountains Muzzleloaders Rendezvous\n\nRate This Event\n \n                                    \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                        \n                                    \nStep back in time at the 14th Annual Snowy Mountains Muzzleloaders Rendezvous on June 22-24\, 2018 at East Fork Reservoir\, 11 miles southeast of Lewistown\, Montana. The Snowy Mountain Muzzleloaders\, a Lewistown-based club that aims to carry on the lifestyle and traditions of the mountain men and women of the fur trading era sponsors the event. The annual Snowy Mountains Muzzleloaders Rendezvous features pistol and rifle gong shoots\, paper target shoots\, knife and tomahawk throwing\, fire starting and archery competitions. Fun shoots and games for kids of ALL ages are also held along with a cannon firing competition. \nParticipants are encouraged to dress in period clothing. A variety of demonstrations pertaining to the mountain man era are of special interest to the public as is Trader’s Row where vendors are welcome at no charge. \nSnowy Mountains Muzzleloaders Rendezvous activities begin Friday morning with the opening ceremony followed by a full day of competitive events and a potluck supper. Saturday is filled with many activities including another full day of competitions\, firing of a miniature candy-filled cannon for the kids and an assortment of games\, fun shoots and demonstrations. \nFree Admission – Public Welcome\nFree Setup for Traders (non-food vendors welcome)\nFree Camping – Primitive and Modern Sites\nFree Saturday Night Supper \nCompetitions: Knife Throwing * Tomahawk Throwing * Firearms (percussion\, smooth bore\, flintlock and musket – patched round ball\, open sights only – no peep sights) * Pistol and Rifle Paper Targets * Pistol and Rifle Gongs * Blanket prizes optional for gong participants * Extra Points Awarded for Authentic Dress \nIn the evening\, everyone is invited to a FREE supper after which there is an auction followed by entertainment while sitting around a large bonfire. Competitors are given the opportunity to complete in one event on Sunday morning. The points are then tallied and prizes awarded. Other activities may be held on Sunday afternoon. \nThe Snowy Mountains Muzzleloaders Rendezvous is FREE to spectators and the public; competitors (ages 12-adult) are charged a small fee and children under age 12 can participate for free (children must register; written parental consent is required).
