The mission of Fort Washita was to maintain peace for the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations within their new lands\, pursuant to treaty obligations. There were many outside threats to the new home of the Chickasaw people\, including attacks by Republic of Texas militia\, interference by unscrupulous intruders\, constant raids by Plains tribes\, the presence of traders and trappers\, and unsettled scores with some of the Plains tribes due to disputes concerning hunting grounds in the Homeland. Fort Washita operated as a United States military post until the start of the Civil War in 1861. It was then occupied by Confederate forces through 1865. The fort was almost entirely destroyed by the Confederates as they fled at the end of the Civil War. \nLearn MoreAfter the war\, the fort was granted to the Chickasaw Nation and later the Dawes Commission allotted the fort and surrounding land to the Charles and Abbie Davis Colbert family. \nThe Oklahoma Historical Society acquired Fort Washita in 1962 and restored it as a historic site and museum. In 2016\, the Chickasaw Nation partnered with the Oklahoma Historical Society to assume responsibility and management of Fort Washita. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is designed as a National Historic Landmark. \nVisitors to Fort Washita can tour restored structures\, witness Civil War reenactments and take part in the yearly Fur Trade Era Rendezvous to experience what life was like before and during the Civil War. Other events throughout the year include storytelling\, outdoor movies and special seasonal and holiday events that the whole family can enjoy.\n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fur Trade Rendezvous at Fort Washita at Fort Wichita in Durant\, Oklahoma. \nTags: Fur Trade Rendezvous at Fort Washita\, Fort Washita Fur Trade Rendezvous\, Oklahoma Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Oklahoma Rendezvous \nView Oklahoma Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Encampments & Related Events

It is known as the “Jewel of the Pearl”. During the War of 1812\, it was “Ford’s Fort” a stockade against hostile Creek Indians during the “Great Mississippi Panic”. In 1814\, General Andrew Jackson and his troops stayed at the John Ford Home on their way to the Battle of New Orleans (his bed is still intact in the home). It was the site of territorial delegates petitioning for Mississippi statehood in 1816 and was raided by four thousand Federal cavalry under General John Davidson during the Civil War in 1864. The first and second Mississippi Methodist Conferences were held at the John Ford Home. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t forget the Ford’s Fort Winter Rendezvous the last weekend of February at the Historic John Ford Home in Sandy Hook\, Mississippi. \nTags: Fords Fort Winter Rendezvous\, Historic John Ford Home\, Mississippi Rendezvous\, Mississippi Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Marion County Historical Society \nView Other Mississippi Rendezvous

Shooters walk to each target ranging from 25 to 100 yards away from the trail. At the end of the rendezvous\, the three highest scorers receive a first\, second or third place award. \nPistol Trail Walk is the same as the Rifle Trail Walk with only 11 targets. The three highest scorers receive a first\, second or third place award. \nFun Shoots – Shooters attempt to cut a string\, split a poker card\, cut a straw\, hit a long gong target 200 yards away and hit a “running buffalo.” \nOne of the shooters favorites is The Running Buffalo. It consists of a wooden buffalo target that is attached to a cable. The cable is held up by poles at both ends of the course. There is a battery that moves the cable to make the buffalo appear to be running. The shooter closest to the “heart spot” wins. \nFort Shoot – A team of four shooters all shoot at once to defend the fort from behind a wooden fort structure for 10 minutes. A variety of items make up the targets that are placed in rows of various distances from the structure. The targets carry different point values\, depending on their distance away from the fort. The goal is to hit as many targets as possible in the 10 minutes to increase the team’s total score. A personalized certificate is awarded to each member of the winning team\, with a picture of the team on it. \nStake Shoot – Teams made up of three shooters alternate fire at their own 2×4 stake. All teams are shooting at once. The winning team is the first team to cut their stake in half. Each member of the winning team receives a certificate with the team’s picture on it. \nHawk & Knife Throw – The participant throws a tomahawk and knife at targets on palm stumps with varying degrees of difficulty. The highest scorer receives an award. \nRendezvous events support\, promote and preserve the nation’s historical heritage in the sport of muzzle loading through recreational\, educational\, historical and cultural venues such as match competition\, hunting\, gun making and safety\, historical re-enactments\, exhibits\, museums\, libraries\, and other related programs. Events such as the Bouse Hills Muzzle Loaders Rendezvous also informs the public on the heritage of early American firearms. \nContact Information\nLarry Gilbert\, Booshway (623) 386-3572\nPhillip Sparks\, President (623) 853-9194 \nLocation\nLa Paz County Shooting Range\nHighway 72 – 29 1/2 – 30 Mile Posts\nBouse\, AZ 85325 \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the Bouse Hills Muzzle Loaders Rendezvous at the La Paz County Shooting Range on the third weekend in February (THU-SUN) in Bouse\, Arizona. \nTags: Bouse Hills Muzzle Loaders Rendezvous\, Bouse Hills Muzzleloaders Rendezvous\, Arizona Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Arizona Rendezvous \nView Other Arizona Rendezvous

William S. Foster and his 430 men. During the Second Seminole War the purpose of Fort Foster was to defend the bridge crossing at the Hillsborough River and act as a resupply point for the soldiers in the field. The Fort Foster was garrisoned on and off from December\, 1836 – April\, 1838. Although the fort was attacked on several occasions\, the worst attack occurred in February 1836\, when a small group of Seminoles attempted to set fire to the bridge. The attempt was thwarted by aggressive musket and cannon fire from the fifty or so U.S. Navy sailors and the 20 artillery men within the fort. Today\, park staff and reenactors provide living history demonstrations of life at Fort Foster. Each year\, the site offers two living history events: Fort Foster Rendezvous in January\, and the Candlelight Experience at Fort Foster in December. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Foster Rendezvous at Fort Foster State Historic Site in Thonotosassa\, Florida (generally on the last weekend of January). \nTags: Fort Foster Rendezvous\, Florida Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Florida Rendezvous \nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous

Located in Goliad\, or\, more accurately before 1829\, La Bahía\, lay on the important route from the Gulf of Mexico to San Antonio de Béxar. The presidio served as the customs house for Copano (El Cópano)\, established on Aransas Bay about the same time as San Antonio\, served as the principal port of entry. These three points were the key to control of South Texas. La Bahía had immense strategic importance\, since it guarded the supply line from the coast to the principal city. This new municipality owed its importance to the port of Copano\, forty miles distant\, which had begun to compete with Matamoros for the lucrative Mexican interior trade\, for which the new town of Goliad supplied expert smugglers\, as well as oxcarts and drivers who provided transportation between markets and port. \nAbout the Texas Association of Buckskinners\nTexas Association of Buckskinners is a friendly group that encourages period correct equipment and skills\, while helping new pilgrims get more involved in the hobby. The Texas Association of Buckskinners (TAB) began in the late 1970s when three friends who were interested in survivalism decided to put together a group to focus on survival skills based on the Mountain Men of the Western Fur Trade. After several decades\, it is one of the oldest buckskinning groups in Texas and is still going strong\, with events held the last weekend of January (Deep Winter)\, the third weekend in April (Spring) and the last weekend in October (Fall). New members are always welcome. \n \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Presidio La Bahia Christmas Rendezvous and Trade Fair on the first weekend of December at the Presidio La Bahia in Goliad\, Texas. \nTags: Christmas at the Presidio La Bahia Rendezvous\, Presidio La Bahia\, Texas Association of Buckskinners\, Texas Revolution Events\, Texas Rendezvous\, Texas Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Market Trade Fair \nView Other Texas Revolution Events\nView other Texas Rendezvous\nView other Market Fair & Trade Fair Events

See pre-1840 history come to life at the Grafton Rendezvous with period dress and demonstrations of archery\, tomahawk and knife throwing and traders selling items of the period. The Grafton Rendezvous\, presented by the Free Trappers of Piasa Territory\,  is family-friendly\, so bring ’em all and enjoy the fun! \nEvents include: Black Powder Shoot\, Hawk & Knife Throw\, Primitive Bow Shoot\, Artisans/Traders\, Authentic Foods\, Children’s Activities Time\, Period Music\, Raffle. \n\nGrafton Rendezvous\nThe Grafton Rendezvous celebrates the French Fur Trading era which began after Louis Joliet and Jacques Marquette journeyed through the area in 1673 and ended around the time when Grafton was established in 1838. The fur trade was the primary reason for the exploration of the American frontier and this enterprise was spurred on by the demand for pelts which were used to make the very expensive and extremely popular felt hats that were fashionable in Europe from 1550 to 1850. The fur trade began to decline when Europeans began to prefer silk hats and the beaver population began to decline. Although its influence isn’t directly apparent\, the fur trade had a profound effect on the growth of the European influence on North America. Routes trail blazed by fur trappers became the routes followed by the pioneers and fur trading outposts like St. Louis became cities. \nThe Grafton Rendezvous is a great place to either participate in the activities or just to experience some of America’s past firsthand.
