Located in Riverton\, the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous is the only reenactment on the actual untouched\, historic site where the “1838 Rendezvous” took place! You will be walking the same ground as Jim Bridger\, Kit Carson\, and Moses “Black” Harris to name a few. \n\n1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous\nThe fun starts with a parade down Main Street in Riverton\, followed by opening ceremonies and Native American dancing. Then the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous begins with black powder shooting\, hawk ‘n knife competitions and numerous seminars centered around the fur trapping era. And ‘Traders Row’ is a great place to bargain for a souvenir. \nThe organizers of the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous pride themselves on having a “beginners” or “teaching” rendezvous with seminars offered. Family day activities for kids and “non” participants in the rendezvous. There are seminars on fire starting with flint and steel\, dutch oven cooking\, flint knapping\, Teepee set-up and organization\, various trapping methods\, historical information about the era\, and many others. \nThe 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous is open to the public and family friendly. For those “beginner” rendezvousers\, who are looking to join a richly rewarding and fun event… you will not disappointed! Lending the modern event a particularly historic air\, the camp used today is the same one used over 150 years ago. Pitch your teepee or modern tin-teepee under the same cottonwoods as the real mountain men did (or update tradition by staying in an area hotel). Then venture out for knife- and tomahawk-throwing contests and demonstrations\, crafts\, kids games and campfire singing. \nSupport the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous\nThe annual reenactment of the 1838 Rendezvous is part the effort to draw attention to the history and romance of the area. Reenactors\, or “buckskinners have done their part for the site\, but the organization is presently in need of more members who are creative\, energetic and love history. They need active members who care how the world sees Wyoming’s ancient landscape and early history. “We have a lot to do and we need help\, said an association member\, “People come from all over the world to this site. European\, South American\, Canadian and Asian people visited the site this year and we can make their impression of American values more accurate by showing how important this site is to American history”. \nAlso: Primitive Black Powder Shooting Matches\, Hawk & Knife Throwing training & competitions\, Nightly Council Fire\, Pre-1840 Trade Goods\, Wood & Water Available \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous in July at the Wind River Heritage Center in Riverton\, Wyoming. \nTags: 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Wyoming Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Wyoming Buckskinner Rendezvous\, Wyoming Rendezvous \nView other Wyoming Rendezvous

French-Canadian voyageurs\, known as voyageurs\, were among the most colorful historic visitors to Michilimackinac. Try your hand at voyageur games\, join in singing a rousing paddling song\, and master the skills these hardy men needed to keep the Great Lakes fur trade moving. \nAdmission: Cost: Adults: $12.50; Youth: $7.50; Under 5: Free \nHours: 9:00 am – 7:00 pm both days \nLocation\nColonial Fort Michilimackinac\n102 Straits Ave W\nMackinaw City\, MI 49701\n(231) 436-4100 \nFor More Information: Call (231) 436-4100; Email mackinacparks@michigan.gov \n \nWhat is a Voyageur Rendezvous?\nThe French started trading in furs in North America in the 16th century\, the English established trading posts on Hudson Bay in present-day Canada in the 17th century\, and the Dutch had trade by the same time in New Netherland. The 19th-century North American fur trade\, when the industry was at its peak of economic importance\, involved the development of elaborate trade networks and companies.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThis fur trade became one of the main economic ventures in North America attracting competition among the French\, British\, Dutch\, Spanish\, and Russians. Indeed\, in the early history of the United States\, capitalizing on this trade\, and removing the British stranglehold over it\, was seen as a major economic objective. Many Native American societies across the continent came to depend on the fur trade as their primary source of income. By the mid-1800s\, however\, changing fashions in Europe brought about a collapse in fur prices. The American Fur Company and some other companies failed. \nIn canoe-based fur trade areas\, one type of rendezvous is associated with the voyageur and canoe-based fur trade business which was largely in Canada and the states in the US around the Great Lakes\, especially in Minnesota and Wisconsin. These Voyageur Rendezvous were generally at a transportation transfer point within in a wilderness route that could not be traversed in one season run by and including the fur trade of only a single company. The transfer was the dominant reason for holding the rendezvous although they included other meetings and revelry.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nWho were the Voyageurs?\nVoyageur is a French word\, meaning “traveler”. Voyageurs were French Canadians who engaged in the transporting of furs by canoe during the fur trade years. From the beginning of the fur trade in the 1680s until the late 1870s\, the voyageurs were the blue-collar workers of the Montreal fur trade. At their height in the 1810s\, they numbered as many as 3\,000 men. Hired from farms and villages of the St. Lawrence Valley\, most spoke French and generally could not read or write. These men agreed to work for a number of years in exchange for pay\, equipment\, clothing and “room and board.” Most voyageurs would start working when they were in their early twenties and continue working into their sixties. Sometimes being a voyageur was a family tradition.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nHard working and tough\, voyageurs provided the power to move the canoes forward\, paddling at a rate of 40-60 strokes per minute\, often 16-18 hours a day. They were also required to carry a minimum of 180 pounds on their backs\, as both trade goods and furs were placed into standard weight bundles of 90 pounds each\, and each voyageur was required to carry two bundles\, though some carried even more. Twelve beaver hides paid the wages for a common voyageur for the year.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nAbout Fort Michilimackinac \nFort Michilimackinac was an 18th-century French\, and later British\, fort and trading post at the Straits of Mackinac; it was built on the northern tip of the lower peninsula of the present-day state of Michigan in the United States. Built around 1715\, and abandoned in 1783\, it was located along the Straits\, which connected Lake Huron and Lake Michigan of the Great Lakes of North America. \nPresent-day Mackinaw City developed around the site of the fort\, which has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Fort Michilimackinac was relocated to the new Fort Mackinac (don’t get them confused) on Mackinac Island during the American Revolution\, with some of the buildings moved across the ice in the winter of 1780-1781. The remaining structures were burnt to the ground. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Rendezvous at the Straits: Voyageur Culture at historic Colonial Fort Michilimackinac in Mackinaw City\, Michigan. \nTags: Rendezvous at the Straits: Voyageur Culture\, Rendezvous at the Straits\, Voyageur Rendezvous at the Straits\, Michigan Rendezvous\, Michigan Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other Voyageur Rendezvous or Encampments

All re-enactors from the French & Indian War through the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade are welcome. \n\nMille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous\nSince 1993\, the Mille Lacs History Festival and Rendezvous has been held in late June in a rolling field in the woods south of Mille Lacs Lake. The event produces a bloom of white canvas in the form of tents in the style of 200 years ago. The rendezvous has become a highly regarded living history event within Minnesota. It’s a regular destination for up to 150 living history participants living in a frontier city of 55 to 75 primitive camps\, and for many\, a yearly reunion. \nA big part of the experience is the camaraderie among the re-enactors\, known as voyageurs and buckskinners\, while the other is the passion of demonstrating skills and crafts of 200 years ago to kids of all ages. The fur trade era is well connected to the Mille Lacs area\, and there were multiple trading posts\, trails and portages present. And both Aitkin and Morrison Counties were named after fur traders. \nThe Rendezvous Camp is open to the public on Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.\, with a donation needed for entry by those over 10 years old. The location is six miles south of Isle or 16 miles north of Ogilvie on Hwy. 47\, then one mile west on Red Road. \nThe sights\, sounds and smells of 200 years ago come alive once again\, with the opportunity to bring home some Americana of the time that the participants make and sell. There will be food\, blacksmiths\, woodcarvers\, woodworkers\, ropemakers\, music\, a storyteller and surprises. It’s never known just who might show up. The event kicks off with a 21-gun national salute at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Impromptu skills demonstrations and music are ongoing throughout the event by many artisans and primitive campers. \nThis event has been presented each year since 1993 by the Mille Lacs Lake Historical society of Isle\, Minnesota. It originally was planned to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the organization\, and became an annual event. \nHours\n9am-6 pm Saturday and 9am-4pm on Sunday \nPublic Admission:\n$8.00 at gate\nFREE to those 10 & under\n9:00 – 6:00 Saturday / 9:00 – 4:00 Sunday\nPrimitive Camping: $30.00 per site \nFolk Arts Site:\n$30.00 (10’ x 10’ space) \nNon-Primitive Tent & R.V. From this location the stream is sometimes called Henry’s Fork of the Snake River. The fort was isolated and the trappers were unable to obtain supplies. To add to their woes\, the winter proved quite severe\, causing the party to abandon this post in 1811. It was situated on the southeast side of the town of Egin\, Idaho\, about 2.6 miles from the Fort Henry Rendezvous site. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Henry Rendezvous the first week of June at the Fort Henry Rendezvous Site just north of Rexburg\, Idaho. \nTags: Fort Henry Rendezvous\, Fort Henry Buckskinners Rendezvous\, Idaho Rendezvous\, Idaho Buckskinners Rendezvous\, Idaho Mountain Man Rendezxvous \nView other Idaho Rendezvous

The first weekend in June\, Fort de Chartres State Historic Site hosts the largest rendezvous in Illinois or the Midwest with over a thousand participants\, hundreds of encampments\, and thousands of visitors joining in on the festivities. Based on the traditional French fur trapper’s rendezvous where trappers and traders would meet at a predetermined location to trade furs for necessities\, these rendezvous were the highlight of the fur trapper’s year and now the Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous is the highlight of Fort de Chartres’s extensive calendar of historical events and activities. \n\nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous\nThe Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous offers participants and visitors alike a glimpse into the period from 1740-1840\, a part of Illinois’ past when it was governed not only by France but by Great Britain and the United States as well. Costumed reenactors portray a variety of personas including colonial military units\, mountain men\, Native Americans\, settlers\, merchants\, and more. Historical demonstrations are located at various locations on the grounds and there are periodic demonstrations that include period music\, military drills\, and musket and cannon competitions. \n@ Fort de Chartres State Historic Site\, at 1350 IL Route 155\, 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher. The event is open and free to general public with special event parking for this event just $5 a car. Donations welcomed. For more information contact the site at (618) 284-7230 or email lesamisdufortdechartres@gmail.com. \nThe two-day popular Annual Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous features shooting competitions\, military drills\, dancing\, music\, food\, and traders of eighteenth-century-style goods. The boom of cannons\, the smell of campfires and a parade of colorful uniforms will transport visitors back to the 1700s. The Rendezvous features 18th century military units\, traditional craft demonstrations\, period music and dancing\, black powder shooting events and cannon firings – all from the time when France controlled what is now Illinois. Visitors can try their hand at throwing a tomahawk\, buy hand-made crafts\, learn about French kitchen gardens\, and watch swordsmen duel\, taste delicious food and much more. \nFort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous Mini-Gallery\n[/fusion_gallery]\n \nAs Fort de Chartres is an Illinois Historic Preservation Agency site\, there is a wide variety of interpretive activities that can be found throughout the grounds. These activities run continuously throughout both days. In the Native Crafts area\, visitors can learn first hand the arts of bow and arrow making\, hide tanning\, basket weaving\, the use of native foods and herbs\, pottery\, the construction of wigwams\, and the history of how and why the fur trade became such an important frontier industry. There are also archery demonstrations and competitions. \nThe Colonial Area features demonstrations that include spinning\, dyeing\, the use of looms\, woodworking\, weaving\, quilting\, rope making\, coopering\, and blacksmiths. Located in the Fort buildings themselves are a French Patron (River Boatman\,) a French Marines quarters\, a Jesuit missionary in the Fort’s Chapel\, and the Piethman Museum. A French Colonial garden\, oxen\, and baked goods for sale from a working stone oven can be found near the demonstration areas. Throughout the grounds are demonstrations by independent merchants illustrating their skills\, and displaying and selling their creations. \nFort de Chartres began as a French military outpost. The reconstructed stone fort represents the third fort built by the French\, the first two wooden forts having been destroyed by the Mississippi River. It was this stone fort that the French turned over to the British in 1765 after the end of the French and Indian War. The British abandoned this fort\, moving their territorial headquarters to the nearby town of Kaskaskia. The abandoned stone fort was visited by George Rogers Clark during his expedition during the Revolutionary War. Representing this military tradition are a number of military reenactment units and marching bands representing all three colonial powers. Rifle\, musket\, and artillery competitions are all part of the scheduled programs. \nPeriod music can be found at any time during Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous. A center stage is set up within the fort and features various musical groups throughout the day. Many of these groups can be found entertaining visitors throughout the grounds when they are not featured on the main stage. In addition marching military bands with drums\, flutes\, bagpipes\, and other instruments can be seen patrolling the grounds. \nHundreds of tents\, teepees\, and other primitive shelters become the weekend home for the over one thousand reenactors who come to the Fort De Chartres June Rendezvous from across the country. Visitors can gain a lot of insight into the life styles of the fur trapping era by exploring the Primitive Camp. The reenactors are a friendly bunch and are happy to talk about the specifics of their camp and the personas they portray. Sutlers\, merchants\, and trade blankets are located throughout the grounds selling many period related goods that are only available at this type of event. \n \nLocation\nFort de Chartres State Historic Site\n350 State Route 155\nPrairie du Rocher\, IL 62277\nDirections: 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher\, about an hours drive south of St. Louis. Take IL-3 to Ruma and then turn west on IL-155. Follow IL-155 through Prairie du Rocher to the site. \nFor more information: call 618-284-7230. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous on the first weekend of June at Fort De Chartres in Prairie du Rocher\, Illinois. \nTags: Fort De Chartres Summer Rendezvous\, Fort De Chartres Rendezvous\, Fort De Chartres June Rendezvous\, Fort De Chartres Voyageur Rendezvous\, Voyageur Rendezvous \nView Other Fort de Chartres Events\nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous

The long-running Memorial Day Weekend event is both a ‘drama’ and festival\, a pre-1840s primitive rendezvous\, and a pow wow! \nPublic Welcome – Free Admission\nVisitors can travel through history without charge. Learn about history\, join in on the games or browse at the various trade blankets. \nPre-1840 Logan Hills Rendezvous\nIn conjunction with the Logan Hills Festival you can experience a pre-1840 Fur Trade Era Rendezvous encampment with all the trimmings. Come see where Simon Kenton and Blue Jacket spent many years of their lives exploring and making their homes. The encampment includes Mountain Men\, Fur Traders and Native Americans in period dress. See what it was like to live back in the 1700s and early 1800s. \nRendezvous occurred each year when the fur traders\, the fur trade companies\, and the Native Americans (Indians) would meet to sell their furs\, get paid\, gather supplies for the next year\, as well as drink\, socialize and catch up with their friends before they started back to work. \nToday\, people all over the country reenact these rendezvous. Many are pre-1840 events that require all reenactors to dress and camp in the primitive style of the era depicted. For some\, it’s just “primitive” camping with period clothes of the type used during the Fur Trade Era of the 1840s. All shelters used are of the type used during these times as well. \nDuring a rendezvous\, there is always an air of friendliness and fun. People are relaxing\, eating\, doing period crafts or playing period games. They are always more than willing to share the history of what they are doing with other campers or visitors. If you are a visitor and new to ‘rendezvous’\, be sure to visit with the reenactors and ask questions during public hours. \nLogan Hills Festival and Pre-1840 Rendezvous Mini Gallery\n\n \nSCHEDULE OF EVENTS[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Saturday Schedule Details”]\nAll Day Yard sales in Zanesfield\nAll Day Craft\, Collectible Booths and Food Vendors\n9:00 Library Book Sale\n9:30 Dr. Earl Sloan Double Tourney (Petanque Court)\n10:30 Archery Competition (Encampment)\n11:00 Citizen of the Year (Shelter House)\n12:00 Grand Entry – Woodland Gathering (Main Dance Circle)\n1:00-4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n2:00 Taloga Outdoor Drama (Drama Area -Weather permitting)\n4:00 Woodland Gathering Resumes (Main Dance Circle)\n4:30 Hawk and Knife Competition (Encampment)\n5:00 -9:00 Hog Roast\n5:30 Woodland Gathering Closing Ceremony (Dance Circle)\n6:00 Clarence Gibson Shooting Contest abd Finals (Petanque Court)\n6:00 to 10:00 Musical Entertainment by American Entertainment (Shelter House)\n8:00 Encampment only is closed to the public[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]\n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Sunday Schedule Details”]\nAll Day Craft\, Collectible Booths and Food Vendors and Scavenger Hunt Doubles Tourney (Petanque Court)\n10:00 Church Service All Welcome (Encampment)\n12:00 Grand Entry – Woodland Gathering (Main Dance Circle)\n1:00-4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n2:00 Kids Games (Encampment\n4:30 Closing Ceremony- Woodland Gathering (Main Dance Circle)\n5:00 Taloga Outdoor Drama (Drama Area – Weather permitting)\n8:00 Encampment only is closed to the public at 8:00 pm\nSchedules may change without notice[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]\n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Monday Schedule Details”]\nAll Day Craft\, Collectible Booths and Food Vendors\n7:30 to 11:00 Pancake & Sausage Breakfast (Shelter House)\n9:00 Parade through the village to Zanesfield Cemetery for Memorial Service\n9:30 Open Court Play (Petanque Court\n10:00 Musical Entertainment (Entertainment Stage)\n11:30 Pickers Auction (Auction Stage)\n1:00 – 4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n11:30 Pickers Auction (Auction Stage)\n11:30 Country Luncheon Sponsored by the Zanesfield United Methodist Church (Church Downtown)\n12:30 Lizard Pull (Encampment)\n1;00 -4:00 Pony Rides (Marmon Valley Farms – east 1 mile on CR 153)\n2:00 Taloga Outdoor Drama (Drama Area – Weather permitting)\nMusical Entertainment to be Announced\nBring Lawn Chairs for your entertainment comfort[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nCamping\nThere is an encampment organized by the Mountain Men Rendezvous. At the time\, Wisconsin was still part of the Michigan Territory. A stockade replica of the original Fort Koshkonong stands in Rock River Park and is where much of the rendezvous action takes place. \nChildrens’ Pioneer Interactive Area\nThese areas offer hands-on experience (chores and games)\, like children would have experienced on the early American frontier. These children’s chores include carrying water\, sawing wood\, and even building a miniature log cabin. There also will be a candy cannon fired\, touching off a race to gather the projectiles. \nAdult Activities\nFor those wanting more of a challenge\, competitions taking place throughout the weekend include primitive archery\, black powder shooting\, tomahawk throwing\, bull toss (a 36-pound stone)\, fire starting\, and a women’s fry pan toss. \nGetting Around\nParking for the event is free\, with horse-drawn wagons available to ferry visitors between the south camp\, located in the stockade replica\, and the north\, where most of the competitions and vending will take place. \nAdmission\n$4 Adult\n$2 Children (ages 5 – 12)\nFree – Ages 4 and under & Child in Stroller\nFree – Cub Scouts\, Boy Scouts\, Girl Scouts\nFree – Persons in Period Attire\nFree Parking \nHours\nFriday: School Day\nSaturday: 9a-5p\nSunday: 9a-4p \nFort Koshkonong Rendezvous Mini Gallery\n\n \nActivities Included\nBlack Powder Shooting & Competition\nPioneed Demonstrations & Competitions\nInteractive Old-Time Chores\nFree Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides\nPetting Zoo on School Day \nCamping or Facility Information: Participants have right to camp/stay on Park Grounds. Hosted by the Forest Hills Black Powder Brigade\, the Desert Rose Memorial Day Rendezvous is open to the public and will feature numerous activities for participation and observation. Included in these activities are shooting trails for primitive black powder rifles\, pistols and squirrel gun. \nBetween 1823 and 1840 rendezvous were places where trappers would come down out of the mountains to meet with the fur trade company supply wagon and other trappers and trade the pelts and hides they had gathered throughout the year for supplies to make it through the next trapping season. \nBlack powder shooting contests at the Desert Rose Memorial Day Rendezvous include both “target” and “trail” events. The difference between a trail walk and a typical target shoot is that shooters will walk down a trail and shoot in different situations with a variety of targets. Shooters will also get an extra point if they are in primitive clothing but it is not required. This is also true with the tomahawk and knife trail\, where participants will have to display and ability to stick a knife or tomahawk into stumps from different distances. \n \nAlso included in the black powder shooting contests is a couples shoot\, the tomahawk and knife throwing trail\, children’s games and a frying pan toss. Often times included in the toss are sometimes less-than-willing targets who have to stand in front of their wives and friends as they hurl a frying pan at them. \nAttend the morning shooters meeting for an extra trail point. \nContest Divisions: Men’s\, Women’s\, Young adult (15-18)\, Juniors (11-14)\,\nand peewee (6-10). \nTrail Walk: Patched round ball\, open iron sights only. Extra point for primitive dress\, foot wear optional. \nContest Entry Fees: Family $25\, Single adult $15\, Young adult $10\, Juniors $5\, PeeWee FREE!\nYou may shoot in a second division for $10. \nOther Events: Shotgun $5.00\, Squirrel Trail $1.00\, Archery Trail $1.00\, Long Gong $1.00\, Couples Shoot $1.00\, Frying Pan Toss $1.00 per/toss\, Childrens Games FREE! \nDesert Rose Memorial Day Rendezvous Mini Gallery\n\n\n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Desert Rose Rendezvous Schedule of Events”]\nFriday\nRegistration 1:00 pm -6:00 pm\nShooter’s Meeting at registration 1:00 pm\nTrails (Rifle\, Trade Gun\, Pistol\, H&K\, Archery\, & Squirrel) 1:30 pm – 4:00 pm \nSaturday\nRegistration 8:00 am- 4:00 pm\nShooter’s Meeting at registration 8:00 am\nTrails 8:30 am – 4:00 pm\nKids Games (ages 1-10) 2:00 pm – 3:00 PM\nCouples Shoot (meet at registration) 4:30 pm- 5:30 pm\nCouncil Fire \nSunday\nTBA\nShooter’s Meeting at registration 8:00 am\nRegistration 8:00 am – 4:00 pm\nTrails 8:30 am – 4:00 pm\nPeeWee Trail (meet at registration) 10:45 am (all start at this time)\nKids Games (1–10) 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm\nFrying Pan Toss 3:00\nLong Gong (meet at registration) 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm\nShot Gun (meet at registration) \nMonday\, Memorial Day\n5:00 pm\nAwards Ceremony at registration 9:30 am\nPlease check at registration for times\, costs\, any additions\, deletions or changes.\nPlease keep your dog on a leash and under your control at all times.
