Participants will be asked to provide photos and links\, or a statement\, describing your individual or group presentation; we are looking for dedication to historical accuracy\, and a thorough knowledge of the time period and the people you are representing. If you are interested\, please contact us! \nHistory of the Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous\nSince 1988\, the Saukville Historical Society has been dedicated to preserving\, recording and\nmaintaining the historical information and antiquities of the Saukville Area\, as well as promoting the awareness of the area’s historical culture\, to develop an understanding of\, and pride in\, our past\, and to recognize its importance in the future. \nFrom 1991 to 2006\, the SHS ran the Crossroads Rendezvous historical reenactment at Peninsula Park every third weekend in May\, bringing thousands of visitors to Saukville and providing an incredibly unique educational experience for area children and their families. Revenue from the event funded the restoration of the 1912 Firehouse\, located on Mill Street in Saukville\, that the Historical Society calls home. \nIn the fall of 2017\, Mary Boyle and Sara Dahmen\, two historical reenactors from Port Washington\, decided it was time to bring the Crossroads Rendezvous back. Together\, with their families and the Saukville Historical Society\, they are excited to introduce a new generation of visitors to the magic of living history and the important part “the crossroads” of Saukville played in the history of our community\, State\, and Country. Join us at the Crossroads this May! \nHistory of the Crossroads\nThe Township and Village of Saukville are located at the ancient crossroads of two major American Indian trails: the old Decorah Road and the old Green Bay Road. The Decorah Road became the present-day Wisconsin Highway 33\, and the old Green Bay Road became the road that is now part of the southern portion of Ozaukee County Highway O and the northern portion of Ozaukee County Highway W. The Indian trails crossed where the Milwaukee River makes an unusual bending loop\, forming a unique river peninsula.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThe Green Bay Trail\, which had a great impact on the settlement of southeast Wisconsin and the State\, overall\, connected Fort Howard at Green Bay with Fort Dearborn in Chicago\, and ran through Saukville. This system of trails extended from Hudson Bay all the way to Florida. In 1993\, the Wisconsin State Legislature designated the Green Bay Trail route\, from the Illinois State line to Green Bay\, an official heritage route\, the “Green Bay Ethnic Trail.”\n* From the Village of Saukville Downtown Revitalization Plan[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nAbout the Sponsor\nThe Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous is presented by the Saukville Historical Society\, a 501 (c) (3) organization affiliated with the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Fort Connah was a Hudson’s Bay Trading Post established in 1846. One of the three original buildings still remains and is believed to be the oldest standing building in Montana. The fort was active from 1846 to 1871. Another cabin has been moved onto the property and renovated for administrative purposes\, historical artifacts and displays. An 1870s log cabin-building has also been moved to Fort Connah for renovation. These two cabins and the original building will replicate the buildings that once made-up the original trading post. A semi-annual rendezvous gathering happens in May and September every year. A black powder shooting range is now complete and ready for use. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Connah Spring Rendezvous on the first weekend in May at the 1847 historic Hudson’s Bay Fort Connah Trading Post six miles north of St. Ignatus\, Montana. \nTags: Fort Connah Spring Rendezvous\, Fort Connah Spring Open House Rendezvous\, Fort Connah\, Fort Connah Restoration Society\, Fort Connah Rendezvous \nView Other Montana Rendezvous & Other Mountain Man Events

The Corps of Discovery of St. Charles is an all-volunteer organization and there is no guarantee that there will be reenactors at the site at all times or that the site will be open to visit. If you are planning to make a trip to visit Camp DuBois you may want to schedule your trip on Wednesdays through Sundays when Camp River Dubois\, the Illinois State Historic Site located 4 miles south of Camp DuBois on Route 3\, is open and both sites can be visited. Camp River Dubois features another version of 1803-1804 winter encampment and features a Visitors Center with 4 galleries of exhibits and displays. Visitors and other groups wishing to visit Camp DuBois should call the Wood River Museum and Visitors Center at 618-254-1993 to ensure that the site will be open. There is no charge to visit Camp DuBois. \nAbout the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site\nThe Lewis and Clark State Historic Site (about 3 miles from Camp Dubois) commemorates the 1803-1804 winter camp of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. It was at Camp Dubois that members of the Corps of Discovery prepared for their expedition to the Pacific Ocean. The 14\,000 square-foot exhibit space contains six galleries that outline the background and history of the Lewis and Clark expedition from its conception to its meaning for today’s America. Exhibits are kid-friendly\, offering opportunities for hands-on engagement. A “reconstruction” of the winter camp\, Camp Dubois\, is located on the grounds near the visitor center. Its design reflects 1803 U.S. Army regulations for the construction of military posts. Interpreters are on-site daily in the camp to explain how the men prepared for the journey. This is a ‘must see’ for folks that make it to the Camp Dubois Spring Rendezvous. \n \nMark your calendar so you don’t miss the next Camp Dubois Spring Rendezvous on the last weekend of October at Camp Dubois on the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site in Wood River\, Illinois. \nTags: Camp Dubois Spring Rendezvous\, Camp Dubois Rendezvous\, Camp Dubois Mountain Man Fall Rendezvous\, Illinois Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Illinois Rendezvous\, Wood River Rendezvous \nView other Illinois Rendezvous

Far different from the original mountain men rendezvous\, it was organized as a family event. Then called the Black Powder Rendezvous\, it was moderately successful\, attracting about 500 people. It was moved to its present location in 1986 due to the need for additional space and to take advantage of the natural beauty of the site a well as the traditional significance of the river in the lives of early settlers. \nThe first three rendezvous were sponsored and organized by the Hickory County Historical Society. During those years it grew tremendously\, both in scope and popularity. Due to this rapid growth and its increasing complexity\, a new organization\, the Pomme de Terre Rendezvous Association was formed to sponsor the event. The Rendezvous Association\, made up of local people and organizations interested in ensuring that area history is preserved. One way of doing so is through such annual events as the Pomme de Terre Rendezvous. In 2006\, the Hermitage Lions Club assumed the overall sponsorship of the event that is organized and operated by the Rendezvous Committee. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Pomme de Terre Rendezvous at Lake Outlet Park in Carson’s Corner\, Missouri. \n \nTags: Muzzleloader \, Pomme de Terre Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Pomme de Terre Voyageur Rendezvous\, Missouri Rendezvous\, Missouri Voyageur Rendezvous\, Missouri Mountain Man Rendezvous \nView other Fur-Trade-Era Rendezvous

Whether the portrayal is that of the western mountain man\, the eastern long-hunter\, or the Native American\, buckskinning allows people to recreate various aspects of this historical period at event such as the Spring Thaw Rendezvous. \nThe Rendezvous is both a history-oriented and social occasion. Many of the “buckskinners” in the Ball and Arrow Primitive Weapons Club enjoy attending and hosting Rendezvous where we camp in pre-1840 lodging\, cook meals over open fires\, and dress for that time period. \nThere are muzzleloading\, primitive archery and tomahawk/knife throwing competitions which take place during these events. Other activities sometimes include fire-starting competitions (using flint and steel)\, games for the children and singing around the campfire. Currently B&A members host three of these camps per year. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Spring Thaw Rendezvous at the Ball and Arrow Primitive Weapons Club in Roswell\, Ohio. \nTags: Spring Thaw Rendezvous\, Ball and Arrow Spring Thaw Rendezvous\, B and A Spring Thaw Rendezvous\, B & A Spring Thaw Rendezvous\, Ohio Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Ohio Rendezvous \nView Other Ohio Rendezvous

The most likely theory of the mystery of Peter Lebec is that he was a fur trapper\, but not with a French Canadian company as was long suspected. It would appear that he was more likely a part of Jean-Baptiste Chalifoux’s gang of trappers and horse thieves from New Mexico who were known to be in the area in 1837. But local lore prevails. To this day\, a Peter Lebec Rendezvous is held each year to honor the mysterious frontier trapper. One thing is for sure: Lebec’s unfortunate encounter with a grizzly made him Kern County’s most famous mountain man. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Bakersfield Muzzleloaders Peter Lebec Rendezvous at the McCafferty Range near Weldon\, California. \nTags: Bakersfield Muzzleloaders Peter Lebec Rendezvous\, Peter Lebec Rendezvous\, Peter Lebec Muzzleloaders Rendezvous\, California Rendezvous\, California Mountain Man Rendezvous \nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous

Facilities at the fort include picnic areas\, a canoeing pond\, the replica fort including three cabins and restrooms. \n[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nFort Buenaventura has been constructed on the original site of the fort built in 1845 by Miles Goodyear and his wife. It has been reconstructed according to archaeological and historical research.. There are no nails in the stockade; instead\, historic wooden pegs and mortis and tenion joints hold the wall together. \nMiles Goodyear Builds Fort Buenaventura\nMiles Goodyear was a mountain man during the last years of the fur trade who built and occupied Fort Buenaventura in what is now Ogden\, Utah. \nAs the fur trades declined and way stations such as Fort Bridger began to spring up on the overland trails\, Goodyear decided to build an enclosed fort on the large westward bend of the Weber River\, approximately two miles south of its confluence with the Ogden River and about one-quarter mile west of the present end of Ogden’s 28th Street. The stockade was constructed with cottonwood logs set upright in the ground that enclosed about one-half acre of land adjacent to the river. It was begun in 1845 and completed by the end of 1846. Four log cabins occupied the corners of the fort\, and sheds\, corrals\, and a garden were also located within the enclosure. Additional corrals were located on the outside to accommodate cattle\, horses\, goats\, and sheep. The garden was watered by river water carried by bucket to the beans\, carrots\, cabbages\, radishes\, and corn. \nThe fort was occupied by Goodyear\, his family\, other trappers\, Indian helpers\, and visitors. It is apparent that Goodyear hoped also to use the fort as a base for trapping and trading\, and hoped also to profit from being of service to overland emigrants. \nIn July 1847\, Goodyear visited with the first Mormon company traveling west on the Bear River west of Fort Bridger\, and he tried to entice them to settle on the Weber River. He was successful. In November 1847\, he sold the fort and everything in it but his horse\, to James Brown (authorized by the Mormon High Council) for $1\,950. The settlement was soon called Brownsville and later\, Ogden.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Buenaventura Easter Rendezvous in Ogden\, Utah. \nTags: Fort Buenaventura Easter Rendezvous\, Fort Buenaventura Rendezvous\, Utah Rendezvous\, Utah Mountain Man Rendezvous \nView other Utah Mountain Man Rendezvous

The Russian-American Company\, worried about the dwindling supply of sea otters in their hunting grounds in Alaska and the northwest\, established Fort Ross on a bluff north of Bodega Bay in 1812. The colony would serve as a hub for Russian and indigenous hunters and traders until its abandonment in 1842. This marine-based commercial fur trade in California\, which was dominated by British\, American and Russian companies\, focused on selling luxurious sea otter pelts mostly to China. \n \nAbout the Sonoma Valley Muzzle Loaders\nThe Sonoma Valley Muzzle Loaders has been around since 1973. Until it closed in 1996\, members shot at the Cotati Rod and Gun Club. After the club closed\, members were forced to find a new site and headed north\, Tognetti said. Club members now meet up to shoot monthly at the Marie Hill Ranch rendezvous site\, which is on private property off Highway 128.
