Rendezvous were known to be lively\, joyous places\, where all were allowed- free trappers\, Indians\, native trapper wives and children\, travelers and later on\, even tourists who would venture from even as far as Europe to observe the festivities. Rendezvous are still celebrated as gatherings of like-minded individuals or clubs in many walks of life. The fur trading rendezvous are celebrated by traditional black-powder rifle clubs all over the US and Canada. These gatherings range from small gatherings sponsored by local clubs to large gatherings like the Pacific Primitive Rendezvous and others. These gatherings include much of the same activities of the originals\, centering on the shooting of muzzle-loaded rifles\, trade guns and shotguns\, the throwing of knives and tomahawks and primitive archery\, as well as cooking\, dancing\, singing\, the telling of tall tales and of past rendezvous. Personas taken on by participants include trappers\, traders\, housewives\, Native Americans\, frontiersmen\, free-trappers and many others\, including soldiers. \nThese early frontier gatherings were called “rendezvous”\, French for a meeting at a particular place and time. Calico Rock Museum and Visitor Center is proud to sponsor its Annual Calico Rock Mountain Man Rendezvous and hope you will mark your calendar so you won’t miss our gathering. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Calico Rock Mountain Man Rendezvous in September at Rand City Park in Calico Rock\, Arkansas. \nTags: Calico Rock Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Arkansas Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Arkansas Rendezvous \nView Other Arkansas Rendezvous

Seven Eagles Historical Education Center and Common Space Centers for Creativity (Toledo\, OH) are family members of the Arts Council Lake Erie West. \nEver browsed those history books and wondered how Native Americans and pioneers survived in the wilderness? Have you ever been to one of those festivals where reenactors portray life in the American colonies or in Native American settlements? Ever wondered how you could become one of them\, how you could find your persona and bring it back to life\, live the old way\, wear the clothes you have admired in books\, cook over an open fire\, sleep under the stars\, and of course\, share your love of history and be a constant presence at rendezvous – the only way to understand what the word means is by attending the Beginners Living History Rendezvous. This is the perfect opportunity to learn all this and much more: different Native American lodging styles\, cooking techniques and utensils in the Native American camp vs. pioneer camp\, Native American style beadwork\, hand sewing\, finger weaving\, basketry\, buckskinning\, flintknapping\, blacksmithing\, butter churning\, soap making\, entertainment and much\, much more. \n \nReenactors will be demonstrating all day in their camps set up on the property. Traders will have their trade blankets ready for you to buy the gear you need to start up reenacting history. Special events are scheduled at specific hours of the Beginners Living History Rendezvous: canoeing\, competitions in archery\, black powder shooting\, hawk and knife. Music (and how you can become a traditional guitar entertainer) will be provided by Jerry Eicher & Brenda Holdridge under the Drum Arbor. A special talk on the material culture of the Eastern Woodland Indians will be delivered in the longhouse by Seven Eagles executive director Martin Nagy. Lots of children activities\, so make sure you bring your kiddos (please have them under your constant supervision – this is an outdoor venue and we cannot take responsibility for accidents). \nThe buildings on the property will be open for visitors and a guided tour can be provided on request. Make sure you stop by and say hello to our innkeeper lady in Catfish Inn\, a replica of a 1700s Scottish tavern\, to the pioneer couple living in the back of the woods in a 217 years old log house\, to the trappers in the Trappers Lodge… All reenactors are education-oriented\, seasoned campers\, with many\, many years of experience – some of them started as young as 16\, and their mission is to help you learn all the skills you need to survive and become one of the key-persons in keeping history alive. We are always looking for young people interested in history and living off the grid; if you are one of them\, this is the place for you. If you are older…. This is the place for you too\, you are never too old to learn or to share your experience. \nIf you love the outdoors and\, moreover\, if you love photography\, don’t forget your camera and make sure you walk around the property and enjoy the wildflowers and wildlife; the entire venue is an environmental center as well as a historical center. The forty-acre piece of property is home to endangered species of flora and fauna and get ready for a weekend full of adventure\, education and excitement! For more information and updates\, check out our website and follow our facebook page. \nEvent Hours\nSaturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.\nSunday 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. \nLocation\nThe center is located one mile south of the village of Grand Rapids & one mile north of US 6. Note: The 295 bridge over the Maumee River is closed! Use the Waterville or Napoleon bridges. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Beginners Living History Rendezvous at the Seven Eagles Historical Education Center in Grand Rapids\, Ohio. \nTags: Beginners Living History Rendezvous\, Seven Eagles Historical Education Center\, Ohio Rendezvous\, Ohio Mountain Man Rendezvous \nView Other Ohio Rendezvous

Gates are open to the public Saturday and Sunday 9a – 5p. A small gate fee applies. All proceeds from the gate go towards the upkeep of Fort Crevecoeur Park. \nIf you wish to be a participant in this event and are new to our gathering family please feel free to contact us for details; we would love to have you join us. \nExperience frontier life from 1680 to 1850 at the Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous. The two-day event brings together history enthusiasts and curious spectators to raise money and awareness of the fort’s history. \nLa Salle and his men built the original fort in 1680 while constructing a boat to travel the Mississippi River. According to historians\, the fort was burned down. The exact location of the original fort has been the subject of great debate since Peoria was founded. A reconstructed fort now commemorates Illinois’ first European-built structure. \nTwice a year in spring and fall\, the not-for-profit Fort Crevecoeur\, Inc. holds Rendezvous Days as a main fundraiser to maintain the fort and surrounding park. But the primary goal of the event is to give people a taste of life in the old days\, Hanse said. \nMen and women dressed as traders and Native Americans sold items like arrowheads\, walking sticks and beaded jewelry. Tents and tepees dotted the park and participants demonstrated trades like old-fashioned rope making and knife crafting. \nLocation\nFort Crevecoeur Park\n301 Lawnridge Dr\,\nCreve Coeur\, IL 61610\nPhone:(309) 694-3193 \nContact\nFort Crevecoeur Park Office\n309-694-3193 \n \nAbout Fort Crevecoeur Park\nFort Crevecoeur Park is located near Peoria and includes a reconstructed Fort Crevecoeur (about nine miles from the original location)\, a museum and a campground. French explorer Robert de La Salle (1643-87) helped the Peoria Indians build a fort in 1860 to defend themselves against the Iroquois. LaSalle made a deal with the local tribes to protect them from the Iroquois tribal league. LaSalle fostered good relationships with the tribes—Fort Creve Coeur wasn’t around too long though—this original site quickly became abandoned as Tonti left to fortify Starved Rock. Tonti’s mission to Starved Rock was to only end in failure though. However\, the Fort Crevecoeur’s seven man garrison quit their fort\, destroyed the fortifications\, and made a trek to Canada. \nMark your calendar today so you won’t miss the next Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous and Gathering at Fort Crevecoeur Park in Creve Couer\, Illinois. \nTags: Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous\, Fort Crevecoeur Fall Rendezvous & Gathering\, Fort Crevecoeur Rendezvous\, Illinois Rendezvous\, Illinois Voyageur Rendezvous\, Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events\nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous
