The NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Powwow is one of the largest sobriety new year powwows in the country\, and is certainly the largest New Year’s pary in Portland\, where thousands of Native Americans and others will close out the year with drums\, songs\, dance – and not a drop of alcohol! \n\nNARA New Years Eve Sobriety Powwow\nThe Native American Rehabilitation Association – NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Powwow\, is once again expected to draw thousands of participants and spectators. The free event unfolds in stages from noon to midnight with activities that include: NARA Honorings\, Sobriety Count Down\, Dance Performances and Art and Craft Vendors. \nPhilip Archambault\, NARA’s traditional cultural director\, Hunkpapa Lakota member and Saturday’s master of ceremonies\, started the annual powwow in a Southeast Portland school\, where it drew scarcely more than 100 people. The success of the annual NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Pow Wow is demonstrated by the size of the venue it has grown into: the Oregon Convention Center. \nThe NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Pow Wow a big deal for the Native American community\, which has historically faced trouble with alcohol. Alcoholism\, however\, plagues people of all ethnicities and backgrounds\, a fact that can become more apparent at booze-heavy holidays like New Year’s Eve\, which is celebrated by virtually every community in the country. \nThis is why the NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Pow Wow is so popular in Portland. It offers the rare party that’s big but also sober\, providing a safe and comfortable space with a Native American community that knows alcoholism too well. \nFree & Open to the Public\nAll Dancers & Drums are welcome. \nEvent Activities:\nNARA Honorings\, Sobriety Count Down\,\nAztec Dance Performance\, Art and Craft Vendors \nHead Staff\nMaster of Ceremonies: Philip Archambault\nWhipman: Ed Goodell\nColor Guard: NIVA Portland/Vancouver Chapter\nHost Drum: To Be Announced \nSchedule\n12 noon Welcoming\n12 p.m. Children & Youth Games\n5 p.m. Aztec Dancers\n6 p.m. Grand Entry\n9 p.m. Sobriety Countdown\nMidnight – Happy New Year! \nLocation\nOregon Convention Center\n777 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd STE 300\nPortland\,OR 97232 \nGeneral & Vendor Contact:\nCall 503-224-1044 ext 145; Email sallman@naranorthwest.org \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the annual NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Pow Wow at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland\, Oregon on New Year’s Eve. \nTags: NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Powwow\, NARA New Years Eve Sobriety Pow Wow\, NARA New Years Eve Powwow\, NARA Sobriety Powwow\, Oregon Powwow\, Oregon Pow Wow \nView Other Oregon Pow Wows
