The Grand Entry starts at 7:00 pm! If you want to donate food for the big Powwow feast on Saturday\, just take it to the Pi-Nee-Waus Community Center by 11:45 a.m.. The Nez Perce Tribe hosts the annual Memorial Pow Wow\, an event that brings in a crowd from around the area and surrounding states to reflect and celebrate. \n\nChief Joseph & Warrior’s Memorial Powwow\nThe Chief Joseph and Warriors Memorial Pow Wow is in honor of those lost in the Nez Perce War of 1877 led by Chief Joseph. The war\, that ended in surrender by the strategist behind the fighting and retreat of the Nez Perce\, Chief Joseph began as a way to keep territory protected against settlers. \nEveryone is Welcome – Free Admission | Memorials Start Thursday Morning \nPowwow Schedule (tentative)\nFriday\nMorning Memorials\nLunch Feed\nAfternoon Name Givings and Other Giveaways\n7:00 p.m. Powwow Begins\nSaturday\n10:00 a.m. Whitebird Pipe Ceremony in Whitebird\, ID\n1:00 p.m. Powwow begins\nBreak\n7:00 p.m. Powwow Begins\nSunday\nMorning meal\n1:00 p.m. Powwow Begins\nFinal prizes awarded \nThis Memorial Powwow is truly a family event and a way of life. So – bring everyone and enjoy the sights\, sounds and smells of Native American dancing\, singing\, crafts and food! \nSupport the Chief Joseph & Warriors Memorial Powwow at gofundme\nHonor the Past\, Celebrate the Present\, Shape the Future Identity is a key factor in community wellness\, and our Nez Perce elders instilled in successive generations the importance of perpetuating tribal history\, language\, and culture.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThis tribal identity is taught through many forms of engagement\, one of the most crucial being local community powwows\, which help strengthen our identity. At these smaller local gatherings\, elders impart “heart knowledge” using songs\, regalia\, drums\, and dances\, art forms that have been sustained and performed by the Nez Perce people for many generations. \nBut today\, teaching tribal history is an ongoing battle in the face of modern distractions that compete for the interest of our youth. Recognizing this challenge more than 40 years ago\, and fearing that important tribal history was being forgotten\, a group of tribal members (descendants of the Nez Perces present during the War of 1877) formed a committee and established the Chief Joseph and Warriors Memorial Powwow. \nWhen first developed\, this annual event sparked renewed interest in younger generations and attracted visitors from other tribes. At one time\, this powwow was so popular\, it was one of the largest tribal events in the Pacific Northwest! Unfortunately\, interest has waned over the years\, and the committee has found it increasingly difficult to continue this powwow\, yet these tribal elder DO continue to host it with minimal funding and support. To help renew interest and increase participation in The Chief Joseph & Warriors Memorial and Celebration powwow\, we’re raising funds that will go directly to the committee to help cover expenses. They are a volunteer-based group that relies on fundraising to continue this memorial year after year\, and they gratefully accept any donation amount. Please help us renew this deeply meaningful powwow for current and future generations. Qe’ciyew’yew! (Thank you) #ChiefJosephAndWarriorsMemorial[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nThe Powwow Committee is not responsible for lost or stolen property\, accidents\, or short funded travelers. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t forget the next Chief Joseph and Warriors Memorial Powwow at the Pi-Nee-Waus Community Center in Lapwai\, Idaho on Father’s Day Weekend. \nTags: Chief Joseph Warriors Memorial Powwow\, Chief Joseph Warriors Memorial Pow Wow\, Nez Perce Powwow\, Nez Perce Pow Wow \nView other Idaho Powwows

The Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Pow Wow celebrates the culture and socializing of American Indians. It is a “living event” and not a “reenactment.” Public Pow Wows invite non-American Indian people to learn and enjoy the celebration\, while also respecting the culture. \n\nNanticoke Lenni-Lenape Pow Wow\nThe Powwow committee reserves the right to require tribal identification cards from competition dancers. No one is permitted to compete without registering. \nTribal Powwows are not an outlet for the non-American Indian spectators to “play Indian.” Spectators should NOT be dressed in regalia. This is not a costume party. It is a celebration that respects the ancestors and the ways of American Indian People. Tape recording of the drums should be done only after asking the drum group. Video recording should be only for personal use\, unless by previous arrangement with the staff. \nAdmission is $15 per car load\, OR $5 per person. Registering dancers are advised to pay the Per Person rate\, and to notify the cash collector that you are a dancer. As soon as we confirm our new venue we will let you know. \n\nFirst Nations at UW Spring Powwow\nThe purpose of the Annual First Nations @UW Spring Powwow is to preserve the customs and traditions of the University of Washington Native American community and to promote cultural education and diversity on campus. One is held during the Memorial Day Weekend at the end of May (AIS Memorial Day Weekend Powwow) and the other during Columbus Day Weekend in October (AIS Homecoming Powwow). These coincide with the three day holiday weekends. Throughout the year\, there are many pow-wows which are supported by members of the American Indianist Society. \nCraft Shows: At pow-wows members display their own craft work and study the craftwork of others. The shows are usually held in the arbor and the craftwork is displayed on blankets or benches. Ribbons are awarded\, but awards are really secondary to the learning potential presented to those who attend the show. \nEducational Seminars: Periodically\, the American Indianist Society sponsors or assists at workshops and seminars on various craft techniques\, dance steps\, specific regalia\, and singing. These workshops are announced in our newsletter\, Talking Leaves. \nArtifact Sales: Besides being a fund raiser for our organization\, artifact sales are one way to recycle items not needed or outgrown with the intention of making them available to someone looking to put an outfit together and could use a good deal. Persons who present items for the artifact sale at the AIS Memorial Day Weekend Powwow may either donate the item to our organization or receive a percentage of the final auction price with the proceeds going into our general fund. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next AIS Memorial Day Weekend Powwow at 4H Camp Marshall in Spencer\, Massachusetts. \nTags: AIS Memorial Day Weekend Powwow\, AIS Memorial Day Weekend Pow Wow\, Massachusetts Pow Wow\, Massachusetts Powwow \nView Other Massachusetts Powwows & Native American Events

The Oshke Kno Kewéwen Traditional Pow Wow is held each Memorial Day Weekend\, and is named in recognition of the Pokagon Band community eagle staff carried by the Pokagon Band veterans. \n\nOshke Kno Kewéwen Traditional Pow Wow\nOshke-Kno-Kewéwen in the Potawatomi language refers to a new eagle staff\, which is much like a national flag. The Pokagon Band veterans constructed two eagle staffs\, which hold dozens of eagle feathers\, each representing a tribal family. This pow wow honors the staffs and the hundreds of Pokagon veterans and past tribal leaders represented on it. \nThe Grand Entries for the pow wow\, which are the formal start of the dancing and songs\, are at 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. On both mornings\, vendors will set up before the dancing starts; gates to the Oshke Kno Kewewen Traditional Pow Wow grounds open at 10:00 a.m. \nThis event is considered a traditional pow wow. The Band’s long-running Kee-Boon-Mein-Kaa Pow Wow during Labor Day weekend is a contest pow wow\, where dancers compete before judges in different categories. A traditional pow wow is a lower-key event focused on bringing the community together. \nPart family reunion\, part traditional ceremony\, the Oshke Kno Kewewen Traditional Pow Wow is a time for native people to celebrate their identity and to visit and share with their friends in the greater community and for traditional drum groups to sing their songs\, for tribal dancers to perform their steps\, and for craftsmen and women to display their handiwork. \nPowwow Schedule\nFriday\n10:00 AM Grounds Open\n6:00 PM Potluck Dinner (traditional foods cook-off with prizes) \nSaturday\n10:00 AM Grounds Open\n9:00 AM – 1:00 PM Dancer Registration (all dancers)\n1:00 PM Grand Entry\n6:00 PM Meal for Dancers & other invited guests (must have ticket)\n6:00 PM Grand Entry \nSunday\n10:00 AM Grounds Open\n9:30 AM – 11:30 AM Continental Breakfast (while supplies last)\n1:00 PM Grand Entry \nOshke Kno Kewéwen Traditional Pow Wow Mini Gallery\n\n \nPowwow Head Staff\nMaster of Ceremonies: To Be Announced\nArena Director: To Be Announced\nFirekeeper: To Be Announced\nHead Veteran: To Be Announced\nHead Male Dancer: To Be Announced\nHead Female Dancer: To Be Announced\nInvited Drums: To Be Announced \nFree Camping Registration (includes electricity and showers)\nWednesday 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM Pokagon citizen early registration\nThursday Noon – 7:00 PM\nFriday 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM\nSaturday 9:00 AM – Noon (if spots are available) \nLocation\nRodgers Lake Campus\n58620 Sink Rd\nDowagiac\, MI 49047 \nThe Oshke-Kno-Kewéwen Traditional Pow Wow is a family friendly event.
