The Native American Student Association (NASA) and the UT Arlington Honors College are pleased to present their Annual UTA Benefit Powwow with a goal of raising scholarship money to benefit Native students. \n\nUTA Benefit Powwow\nMany of the 120 Native American tribal affiliations in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area will be represented at Annual UTA Benefit Powwow. The powwow offers a tribute and ceremonial prayer for Native warriors and all military service people. Other highlights include traditional singing\, and dancers in full regalia. The dance regalia is considered a unique expression of spirit\, often comprised of heirlooms and other articles handmade by family and friends handed down from generation to generation. \nSome people come to the UT-Arlington Powwow to hear songs that are very sacred to them; others come to dance and enjoy a purely social gathering. The Powwow presents an opportunity to learn about Native American culture and to patronize vendors who will offer up delectables such as fry bread or Indian tacos. Many powwow visitors will know very little about this powwow world\, which is why the emcee explains Powwow terms. \nAbout the UTA Native American Student Association (NASA)\nCo-founded by Dr. Joseph Bohanon (Choctaw)\, NASA is the longest active higher education Native student organization in Texas\, and the Annual UTA Benefit Powwow has grown yearly since its charter. The 2016 UT-Arlington Powwow raised over $3\,800 in scholarship funds\, most of which wouldn’t have been possible without the generous donations from vendors\, offering up their pieces as raffle items\, along with contributions from the community. \nUTA Benefit Powwow Mini Gallery\n\n \nVendors Welcome\nAll proceeds go to the Native Group on campus and scholarships. \nLocation\nE.H. Hereford University Center Bluebonnet Ballroom\n300 W 1st Street\nArlington\, TX 76010\n(817) 272-2929 \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next UTA Benefit Powwow in the UC Bluebonnet Ballroom in Arlington\, Texas. \nTags: UTA Benefit Powwow\, UTA Benefit Pow Wow\, Texas Powwow\, Texas Pow Wow\, UT-Arlington Powwow\, UT-Arlington Pow Wow \nView other Texas Pow Wows

And although their scholarships are seldom larger than $500\, any little bit helps Native students. \nWildhorse Princess Pageant\nThe Wildhorse Princess Pageant was created to help young native girls/women to strive for higher education and to keep their traditional traditions alive. Wildhorse Pow Wow Princess primary goal will be to utilize communication skills through teaching and sharing with the rich traditions\, culture\, and heritage of Native American Indian people. The Wildhorse Pow Wow Princess serves as a role model\, leader in the community and representative of the annual Wildhorse Pow Wow and as well as a goodwill ambassador from all cultures/native nations throughout the greater Los Angeles and beyond. \nThe Wildhorse Princess pageant is held for young native girls/women who are between the ages of 8 to 17.
