Come to the History Revisited Pow Wow where\, for the first time in history\, the Buffalo Soldiers and the Native Americans will be together peacefully. The Staff and Flags will be brought in by the Native American Warrior and Honor Guard Society\, all members are veterans. At the start of the Powwow music will be provided by the John ‘Lone Eagle’ band with their contemporary Native American music. This favorite Placer County cultural event provides a unique celebration of Indigenous music\, dance\, and cultural traditions. An Indian Market featuring Native American art\, food and crafts will open at 9:00 a.m.\, with an opening ceremony of California Native traditional dancing at 10:00 a.m.. Gourd Dancing begins at 11:00 a.m. and the Grand Entry for Inter-Tribal Pow Wow dance begins at 12 noon. During the Grand Entry\, a Veteran’s Color Guard will lead a procession of a hundred dancers in regalia representing different tribal groups from across the nation. The afternoon will feature children’s dance and open inter-tribal dancing\, with a guest performance by the Halau Ka Waikahe Lani Malie Hawaiian dance group at 5:00 p.m. Spectacular adult contest dancers and intertribal dancing will continue until the closing ceremony at 9:00 p.m. \n\nAuburn Big Time Pow Wow\nThe Annual Auburn Big Time-Pow Wow attracts people from diverse tribal groups to gather for the purpose of honoring the traditions of their ancestors. The culture of the Chickasaw Nation comes alive during the Chickasaw Nation Annual Meeting and Festival\, a week-long event held in south-central Oklahoma’s Chickasaw Country. Activities are scheduled throughout the week\, but the main events roll out on the festival’s final Saturday. Start your day with the State of the Nation address\, then head for Pennington Park and a day of fun. The park fills with inflatables\, a petting zoo and make-and-take tents\, where children can play for hours. The Golden Eagle Intertribal Powwow is a gathering of many Nations to honor and show our respects to all veterans. Everyone is encouraged to come and learn about Native American cultures. There will be storytelling for young and old\, children’s dances\, treats and gifts\, handcrafted vendors\, food\, auctions\, raffles\, and much more. Many representatives from different Tribal Nations include: Powhatan\, Cherokee\, Blackfoot\, Cree\, Choctaw\, Sac/Fox\, Pottawatomi\, Oneida\, Navaho/Dine\, Lakota\, Cheyenne\, Kickapoo\, Mohawk\, and more. \nWe gather at the Golden Eagle Intertribal Powwow to teach and learn from each other and to dance\, sing and celebrate our many different Native American traditions and heritage. The gorgeous Plug Pond provided the backdrop for the MCNAA Intertribal Pow Wow at Plug Pond which is co-sponsored by the Massachusetts Center for Native American Awareness (MCNAA and the City of Haverhill. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxwh7-RNlLc&width=650&height=400[/embedyt] \nMCNAA Intertribal Pow Wow\nEnjoy the Intertribal Dancing at the MCNAA Intertribal Pow Wow at Plug Pond. Some of the dances include boy’s Eastern traditional dance\, lady’s fancy shawl dance\, jingle dress dance\, grass dance\, crow hop\, lady’s traditional dance\, men’s fancy dance\, men’s traditional dance and the Eastern Blanket Dance. \nArts and crafts will be available from vendors setup at the MCNAA Intertribal Pow Wow at Plug Pond for purchase. Center for Native American Awareness\, call 617-642-1683 or email mcnaa@aol.com \nMCNAA Intertribal Pow Wow at Plug Pond Demonstrations & Activities\nWar Canoe Returns The large War Canoe will return this year to the MCNAA Intertribal Pow Wow thanks to our partnership with Gedakina\, Inc. Through their Pathfinders Program\, friends from the Penobscot Tribe in Maine will bring the 30’ voyager to the pow-wow for attendees to take a ride around the outer Pond. The rides will be led by Native Master Paddlers from the Tribe. The paddle is a different and fun experience for everyone as well as an educational opportunity based on some of the discussions that take place in the Canoe about the land\, ecology\, nature\, culture and history. \nCanoe & Kayak Paddling We will also have canoe and kayak paddling opportunities for our visitors. Everyone will be able to take either a kayak or the small canoe ride around the shore line of the Pond. These opportunities will be offered free of charge and safely guided by Advisory Council Member Patricia Rocker (Chappaquiddick Wampanoag). Educational Workshops \nAn educational component of the event\, which has become very popular\, is the workshop by Claudia Fox Tree\, M.Ed. – Arawak (Yurumein). Interactive conversations will be held both days for about 30 minutes with opportunities for Q & A about First Nations People (Native American) identity\, culture\, and history. On the other day\, attendees will learn and discover First Nations/Native American female role-models and their contributions to contemporary society. The presentation will begin around 11:30 AM each day. \nAt this years’ special celebration\, we will feature the following dance groups: The Kasibahagua Taino Cultural Society – an intertribal\, intergenerational organization of indigenous Caribbean singers\, musicians\, speakers\, and artists dedicated to transmitting their ancestral heritage to their present and future generations with dignity and honor. The Kalpulli Heuhuetahtolli Aztec Dance Troup – a professional Aztec dance groups that performs throughout the Country. \nMashpee Wampanoag artist and craft maker\, Kerri Helme\, will be set up at her stand for craft making with the children. She will offer several different crafts throughout the day that include traditional clay pinch pots\, corn husk dolls\, and painted deerskin bracelets. Loril Moondream and Peter White Fox will also be set up\, near the tipi for craft making. They will help the children make Lakota bone choker necklaces to take home. \nEnjoy the Intertribal Dancing. The public is welcomed to share in these dances. Additionally\, there will be dance-style demonstrations for the public to sit back and watch and admire. Some of the dances include boy’s Eastern traditional dance\, lady’s fancy shawl dance\, jingle dress dance\, grass dance\, crow hop\, lady’s traditional dance\, men’s fancy dance\, men’s traditional dance and the Eastern Blanket Dance. \nNative foods (and American fare) will be for sale by Silver Moon. Items will include authentic Arhauaco Mochilas (bags) from the Arhuaco Tribe in Colombia\, hand crafted clay beads and jewelry by Arawak Design\, children’s musical instruments at the stand of Micapache\, authentic hand-made wampum jewelry\, silver and turquoise jewelry\, birch bark jewelry\, beaded jewelry\, shawls\, baskets\, wall paintings\, Native-themed clothing and hats\, bamboo musical instruments\, rattles\, blankets and so much more. \nAbout the Mass Center for Native American Awareness Mass Center for Native American Awareness holds a number of pow-wows each year\,like the MCNAA Spring Planting Moon Pow Wow\, in different cities/towns in Massachusetts. The pow-wows serves as an opportunity for “cultural expression” for Native Americans who are dancers\, artisans\, storytellers and craftmakers. They all come together to exhibit their skills\, and share their culture.
