The Grassy Run Heritage Rendezvous is held within the Williamsburg Community Park next to the scenic East Fork of the Little Miami River\, in the oldest Village in Clermont County. This educational journey begins with a 1700s living history encampment\, with strolling musicians\, Native American dancers\, story tellers and demonstrations in Blacksmithing\, Gun smithing\, Spinner weavers\, Broom makers and primitive colonial-era Ohio skills. Don’t miss the black powder muzzleloader shoot and other competitions on Saturday and Sunday. \n\nGrassy Run Heritage Rendezvous\nThe Grassy Run Historical Arts Committee\, sponsor of the Grassy Run Heritage Rendezvous\, invites other living history participants to assist in teaching the public the history of the settlement years here in Southwestern Ohio. School days are held on Friday\, when over 1000 students are invited to spend a day doing hands on activities like candle making and beading. \nThe Grassy Run Heritage Rendezvous opens up to the public on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. See a Blacksmith work a red hot piece of steel into a useful implement\, hear the sweet sounds of a dulcimer or hear from one of the many first person orators on their lives on the Ohio Frontier. Shop the many store fronts and traders and barter for that one of a kind period craft gift. With over one hundred participants in period dress\, this is an event you will not want to miss. \nSchool Day at Grassy Run Heritage Rendezvous\nWith over fifteen historical educational stops\, children will be able to observe first hand the trials and tribulations of the first settlers who came to this beautiful yet still dangerous land to raise a family. Step back in time at this Pre-1840 period event. Foods cooked over wood fires\, muzzleloading contests\, teepees & wigwams\, travois dogs\, historic crafts\, canoe rides\, hawk throws\, pre-1840 trading\, Indian Dances (2pm – 3 pm). Historic programs on two stages include: Bagpipes\, Fife & Drum Corps\, Aztec Dancers\, Frontier Dances & Music\, Voyaguer Songs\, and Ben Franklin. Absolutely fun for all! This event is not a craft festival or a rendezvous — it is much more. It is an event aimed at educating each of us in various facets of our country’s history through the life styles\, tools\, crafts and foods of 1700-1840 historic periods. When combined\, these separate elements can form a “time machine” which can transport us and the public back in time where we can celebrate our successes\, learn from our mistakes\, and carry a proud legacy into the future. But this is possible only if we respect all races and nationalities and their many contributions. \nSCHOOL TOUR DAY: Friday 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. has been designated as “Trail School Tour Day” – please volunteer to come and give an educational program. Absolutely no driving in and out during the school tour because of accident liability and insurance. NOTE that Registered Sex Offenders cannot be here on school day. \nHISTORIC CAMPS – Campsites are all assigned. Pre- registered folks get the spots they have had in previous years. Those who register when they arrive will take what is left – show your participant’s packet to the Camp Commander so he can show you your campsite. Do not set up camp until you know which camp is yours or you might have to move. You will be assigned a camp within your correct historic period. Refer to the application for list of these categories. \nARRIVAL & CHECK-IN: Use east door of museum. Upon arrival\, all participants MUST check in at the museum to get their Participant Packet. Crossing the culvert into the primitive area will not be permitted until this packet is obtained and vehicle marker is in windshield. YOU MUST HAVE PACKET & VEHICLE MARKER BEFORE YOUR CAMP COMMANDER WILL LET YOU SET UP. If you arrive after dark\, you will be escorted to your campsite. The two-day event brings together history enthusiasts and curious spectators to raise money and awareness of the fort’s history. \nLa Salle and his men built the original fort in 1680 while constructing a boat to travel the Mississippi River. According to historians\, the fort was burned down. The exact location of the original fort has been the subject of great debate since Peoria was founded. A reconstructed fort now commemorates Illinois’ first European-built structure. \nTwice a year in spring and fall\, the not-for-profit Fort Crevecoeur\, Inc. holds Rendezvous Days as a main fundraiser to maintain the fort and surrounding park. But the primary goal of the event is to give people a taste of life in the old days\, Hanse said. \nMen and women dressed as traders and Native Americans sold items like arrowheads\, walking sticks and beaded jewelry. French explorer Robert de La Salle (1643-87) helped the Peoria Indians build a fort in 1860 to defend themselves against the Iroquois. LaSalle made a deal with the local tribes to protect them from the Iroquois tribal league. LaSalle fostered good relationships with the tribes—Fort Creve Coeur wasn’t around too long though—this original site quickly became abandoned as Tonti left to fortify Starved Rock. Tonti’s mission to Starved Rock was to only end in failure though. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 7th Annual Edmonton House Brigade Skills of the Fur Trade Challenge on May 27–28\, 2017 at the Sherwood Park Fish and Game Association near Edmonton\, Alberta\, Canada. Take part in the muzzleloading\, knife and hawk\, and primitive bow challenges\, and the 1805 Canadian Fur Trade Camp. Saturday evening supper with all the fixings will be provided for all registered shooters and paid non shooters. Please bring your own plates\, cutlery and mug wipers. (napkins for those more sophisticated folk). Everyone is welcome! Period dress highly recommended\, yet not required. Please bring your own water. Firewood will be provided. \n \nLocation / Directions\nThe Edmonton House Brigade Skills of the Fur Trade Challenge shoot will be held on the Sherwood Park Fish & Game Range. Someone will be appointed as an “insurance cop”.\n• Coming to the shoot without a muzzle loading firearm or proof of insurance (membership) will result in the same outcome: You will not be shooting. \nFire prevention / 5 second patch lube test\nA small propane torch (the type used to solder copper pipe) is needed for this test. Lube a patch & hold it at the tip of the flame for 5 seconds. If the patch does not start to smolder\, this patch/lube combo can be used on trail walk. Check your patch / lube before coming to our shoot.
