Come and celebrate the year Ohio became a state! \n\nHeritage Village Museum\, home of Regency Rally: An 1803 Muster and Social\nDiscover what life was like in the early 1800s\, an exciting time when Ohio was a brand new state! Linigle’s Company of Ohio Militia Reenactors will be on hand for drilling and civilian demonstrations. Witness a reenactment of a duel between officers. Learn about popular clothing during the time of Jane Austen at the Regency fashion show. Play games on the green. Watch a military style hearth cooking demonstration. DESCRIPTION:2019 Battles Of The River Raisin Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \nDon’t miss excitement at the 205th Commemoration of the Battles Of The River Raisin Reenactment in Monroe\, Michigan on January 19\, 2019. Join the many participants from Michigan\, Ohio\, Kentucky and Canada\, along with Native Americans and residents of Monroe Michigan as we remember this bloody battle and massacre that took place on January 22-23\, 1813. \nThe commemoration is held on the very ground along the River Raisin where hundreds of lives were lost in a struggle for freedom and sovereignty during the early years of the United States. \n\nBattles Of The River Raisin Reenactment\nBattle of Frenchtown (AKA The Battle of the River Raisin)\nThe Battle of Frenchtown (Battle of the River Raisin in Monroe Michigan) was the largest battle fought on Michigan soil. This battle was a major defeat for the Americans and was one of the bloodiest engagements during the War of 1812. The massacre of some wounded solders the following day shocked and enraged Americans throughout the Old Northwest Territory. This incident soon became known as “The River Raisin Massacre” and the rallying cry was “Remember the Raisin”. \nAnniversary Memorial Service Commemorates The Battles of the River Raisin\nEach January\, on the anniversary date of the battles\, a memorial service is held on the battlefield. This event commemorates the service of the Americans\, French\, British\, Canadians\, and Native Americans who fought at the River Raisin. Elm Avenue\, Monroe\, MI 48162\n734-243-7136 \nLaCroix’s Company of Michigan Militia\nThe company was named after its Captain\, Hubert Lacroix\, reputedly the first man from the River Raisin settlement to volunteer for active duty in the War of 1812. Lacroix’s company of Volunteer Infantry of the Michigan militia was mustered into service on May 18\, 1812. Their period of active duty lasted just 2 months and 30 days\, until General Hull’s surrender of Detroit and all of Michigan Territory on August 16 of that same year. \n \nNow\, over two centuries after the War of 1812\, Lacroix’s company of Michigan militia is once again on the march every year at the Battles of the River Raisin Reenactment. Sponsored and supported by the River Raisin Battlefield Visitor Center and the Friends of the River Raisin Battlefield\, modern-day company members research and reproduce many aspects of the life and times of the original unit. The company now is made up of volunteers who are dedicated to preserving the living memory of our community’s past by recreating\, as best we can\, the clothing\, activities\, and skills of the early inhabitants of the historic River Raisin settlement. We have been named the official War of 1812 Bicentennial Re-enactment unit by both the City and County of Monroe\, Michigan. DESCRIPTION:2019 Battle of New Orleans Reenactment at Chalmette Battlefield\n\nRate This Event\n \nHistory comes to life at the annual Battle of New Orleans Reenactment on January 11-12\, 2019 at the Chalmette Battlefield near New Orleans\, at Chalmette\, Louisiana. Each year over 150 living history re-enactors come together to commemorate America’s victory over the British in this final major battle of the War of 1812. Battle of New Orleans Reenactment events are held at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park – Chalmette Battlefield and include demonstrations such as cannon and musket firing and campfire cooking. \n\nBattle of New Orleans Reenactment at Chalmette Battlefield\nOne of the most amazing things about the Battle of New Orleans is the amount of different people and military groups from different races\, social classes\, languages\, and backgrounds who came together to protect their country and their way of life. This is easily seen throughout the encampments set up at the Battlefield during the Commemoration. \nThe majority of the Battle of New Orleans Reenactment events take place during the day from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with special events on Friday and Saturday nights. Friday night is a re-enactment of one of the skirmishes leading up to the Battle (‘on-site’ at 7 p.m. at historic De La Ronde Oaks). \n \nRemember the Battle of New Orleans at Chalmette Battlefield\, the very place where it happened. Meet the American and British troops who fought one of the most significant battles in world history and the civilians who kept the home fires burning in New Orleans. Enjoy period music\, watch cannon and musket firings\, participate in hands-on activities\, and listen to the stories of the men and women of 1815. \nBattle of New Orleans Reenactment Events: \nFriday: Note that there are no activities scheduled ‘on-site’ for Friday. HOWEVER\, At 7 p.m. on Friday\, visitors can witness Gen. Andrew Jackson’s surprise attack on the British in the re-enactment of the Dec. 23\, 1814\, night battle. This will take place at the historic De La Ronde Oaks just down the highway from the battlefield. The event is presented by the Louisiana Living History Foundation and hosted by St. Bernard Parish. \nSaturday 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Living history experts dressed as civilians and troops from 1815 demonstrate military drills\, fire cannons and muskets\, perform period music\, and share life in 1815 via hands-on activities\, games\, and craft demonstrations. Free. \nMonday 9:30 a.m.: Annual wreath-laying ceremony honors the troops of the Battle of New Orleans at Chalmette Monument. Park at the battlefield (8606 West St. Bernard Highway\, Chalmette). You can apply to be a living history reenactor AND a presenter / performer / demonstrator\, but you must fill out BOTH the living history reenactor application AND the presenter/performer application.\n\nLiving History (non-combatant) Participants: You don’t need to apply to participate in the Battle of New Orleans Reenactment as a living history reenactor if you simply want to attend Battle of New Orleans events at Chalmette Battlefield\, either in period dress or in “civilian” clothes. The park looks forward to seeing you however you’re dressed! \nMILITARY AND CIVILIAN PORTRAYALS\nLiving history units and individuals representing participants in the Battle of New Orleans and the civilians who supported them are welcome to apply to participate in activities at Chalmette Battlefield. Sorry\, no horses are allowed at Chalmette Battlefield events. \nOn the British side\, appropriate units to represent include the 4th\, 7th\, 21st\, 27th\, 41st\, 43rd\, 44th\, 85th\, 89th\, 93rd\, and 95th Regiments of Foot\, the 1st and 5th West India Regiments\, the 14th Light Dragoons\, British general staff\, Royal Artillery\, Royal Horse Artillery Rocket Troop\, Royal Navy\, Royal Marines\, Royal Engineers\, and Royal Sappers and Miners. Other groups may also be appropriate; be sure to describe your unit on your application. \nOn the American side in the Battle of New Orleans Reenactment\, appropriate units include the 7th and 44th US Infantry Regiments\, Light Artillery Corps\, US Marines\, US Navy\, 1st US Dragoons\, Jean Lafitte’s Baratarians\, Hinds’ Mississippi Mounted Rifles\, First and Second Free Men of Color Battalions\, the units making up Plauché’s Battalion\, Beale’s Rifles\, Jugeant’s Choctaws\, and the Louisiana\, Tennessee and Kentucky militias. Other groups may also be appropriate; be sure to describe your unit on your application. \nReenactors representing civilians of the period are also welcome. Tecumseh and his brother Tenskwatawa (commonly known as “The Prophet”) were leaders of a confederacy of Native Americans from various tribes that opposed US expansion into Native territory. As tensions and violence increased\, Governor Harrison marched with an army of about 1\,000 men to disperse the confederacy’s headquarters at Prophetstown\, near the confluence of the Tippecanoe and Wabash rivers.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nTecumseh\, not yet ready to oppose the United States by force\, was away recruiting allies when Harrison’s army arrived. The Vietnam re-enactment group\, The Wolf Hounds\, make camp near a large military vehicle show held on Saturday and perform live re-enactments of Vietnam battles utilizing the Huey helicopters. Fort Fest includes an enormous display of military memorabilia and artifacts is housed at the Jennings Memorial building built to honor Lt. Col. William Jennings who established the Fort during the War of 1812. Many other military displays and tributes will be present including the Ohio MIA/POW wall and the Tomb of the Uknown Soldier. \nOther Fort Fest activities include a motorcade/motorcycle run\, wine tasting\, car show\, and entertainment featuring Nashville Crush and Midwest Dueling Pianos. The race will start at LaBenite Park\, in Sugar Creek\, Missouri. SUMMARY:Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol
DESCRIPTION:Experience winter life in the 18th century at the Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol on February 4\, 2017 at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown\, New York\, and witness a battle in the woods. \nThe Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol highlights life at a frontier outpost during the French and Indian War. Living History activities take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and include fur trading\, weapons demonstrations\, winter survival\, fire building\, games and winter clothing. \nAt 1:00 p.m. the Education Department of the New York State Office of Parks\, Recreation and History Preservation will present an illustrated history of the snowshoe and at 2:00 p.m. attendees will embark on a journey to the woods where a skirmish will break out between French and British troops. The day ends with complimentary hot chocolate for attendees. \nReservations are not necessary for the Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol\, but snowshoes are available on a first-come-first-served basis. There is no extra charge to take part in the event\, but general admission tickets to the Fort are required.
