DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss the excitement at the The Fort Osage Dispatch Canoe & Kayak Race on August 26\, 2017 beginning at LaBenite Park\, Sugar Creek\, Missouri. The Fort Osage Dispatch Canoe & Kayak Race (called “The Dispatch”) is held annually to honor the original occupants of Fort Osage\, who routinely sent messengers down river in canoes to deliver dispatches to St. Louis. \n“The Dispatch” is a sixteen mile canoe and kayak race on the historic Missouri River! The race will start at LaBenite Park\, in Sugar Creek\, Missouri. The race will finish at Fort Osage National Historic Landmark. \nOfficial Fort Dispatches will be given to all racers at registration.\nThese dispatches will be copies of actual historical documents and letters\, pulled from the archives at Fort Osage\, which had actually been sent from Fort Osage to St Louis. \nA Fort Osage soldier re-enactor will be present at the finish line\, and every racer (both adults and children) must deliver their “dispatch” to the soldier in order to complete the race and receive their finishers coin… which is an official replica of the Jefferson Peace Medal. \nContest for most realistic boat which would been seen at Fort Osage during the early 1800s. \n$35 Racing fee (Day of Event Registration – $40/adults)\nEvery Adult racer will receive a finishers medal\, tee-shirt\, lunch\, and 3 tickets for admission into Fort Osage. \nChildren’s racing fee is $10 but does not include a tee-shirt\n(Each child will receive a finishers coin\, lunch\, and one admission into Fort Osage) \nMilitia Re-enactors from the Friends of Fort Osage will be present in full military dress!! DESCRIPTION:2017 Sackets Harbor Battlefield War of 1812 Weekend\nStep back in time at the 13th Annual Sackets Harbor Battlefield War of 1812 Weekend on August 5-6\, 2017 at the Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site. \nShortly after the War of 1812 began\, Sackets Harbor became the center for U.S. military and naval activity for the upper St. Lawrence Valley and Lake Ontario region\, according to the Sackets Harbor Battlefield Alliance. By 1813\, roughly 5\,200 troops were stationed at Sackets Harbor\, the U.S. Naval Headquarters on the Great Lakes. \n[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBXqeH2Z6RU&width=540&height=367[/embedyt] \nThe Sackets Harbor Battlefield War of 1812 Weekend activities fill Saturday 9am to 5pm\, plus an evening English Country Dance. DESCRIPTION:Experience winter life in the 18th century at the Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol on February 4\, 2017 at Old Fort Niagara in Youngstown\, New York\, and witness a battle in the woods. \nThe Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol highlights life at a frontier outpost during the French and Indian War. Living History activities take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and include fur trading\, weapons demonstrations\, winter survival\, fire building\, games and winter clothing. \nAt 1:00 p.m. the Education Department of the New York State Office of Parks\, Recreation and History Preservation will present an illustrated history of the snowshoe and at 2:00 p.m. attendees will embark on a journey to the woods where a skirmish will break out between French and British troops. The day ends with complimentary hot chocolate for attendees. \nReservations are not necessary for the Old Fort Niagara Snowshoe Patrol\, but snowshoes are available on a first-come-first-served basis. There is no extra charge to take part in the event\, but general admission tickets to the Fort are required.
