The Union Marines and Navy come ashore and burn down the Confederate salt works. The Pawnee Guard\, a Civil War reenacting group hosts the annual event\, using a rowed launch to land Marines on the beach! If you’d like to be part of the action\, they are looking for people to portray salt workers and home guard. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5zkWU5fdF0&t=110s&width=650&height=400[/embedyt] \nSt Andrews Bay Salt Works Raid Reenactment\nThe St Andrews Bay Salt Works Raid Reenactment will take place just west of the Marina in downtown Panama City\, on Beach Drive. Civilian and Naval impressions are welcome! No fees. Free firewood. We will have a mess. \nThe reenactment starts with the Marines landing from their rowed launch on the white sand beach as pyrotechnics explode in the sand. The Confederate home guard puts on a spirited defense\, but the Marines steadily push them back through the woods and the tent camp as well as the field in front of the spectators. Spectators have a front row seat to view the battle up close. The Marines will explode one of the boilers during the action. After the battle\, the wounded are taken to a field hospital where they are treated as part of Civil War era battlefield medical demonstrations. \nAlthough small\, there is plenty of room for camping under the trees. Evenings offer great sunsets and sea breezes. \nThe reenactment will take place on Saturday and Sunday\, with camp tours open at 10:00 a.m. and the battle reenactment at 1:00 p.m. \nPublic Welcome – Free Admission \nSchedule: Saturday & Sunday \n10:00 a.m. Camp Tours begin\n1:00 p.m. Marine Landing and Battle Reenactment\n4:00 p.m. Camps close to public. \nLocation\nSt Andrews Bay Salt Works Raid Reenactment Site\n328 Beach Drive\nPanama City\, FL 32413 \nFor More Information: Call 850-258-1670; Email ronboyce50@gmail.com \nAbout the St Andrews Bay Salt Works Raid\nBefore refrigeration\, salt was crucial for food preservation\, and hundreds of salt works sprang up along Florida’s Gulf Coast\, boiling sea water in iron kettles for its production. To stop supplies from reaching the Confederates\, a series of Union assaults were initiated in late summer 1862. Over a year later\, in December 1863\, men from the U.S.S. Restless and other naval ships landed at St. Andrews Bay\, and proceeded to destroy more than 290 salt works operations\, valued at $3 million at the time. \n \nAbout the Pawnee Guard\nSt Andrews Bay Salt Works Raid Reenactment is hosted by the Pawnee Guard\, a local historical reenacting unit that participates in other reenactments across the Southeast. The Pawnee Guard reenactors are supported by the Bay County Historical Society and National Civil War Naval Museum in Columbus\, Georgia. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next St Andrews Bay Salt Works Raid Reenactment in April in Panama City\, Florida. \nTags: St Andrews Bay Salt Works Raid Reenactment\, Florida Civil War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

What began\, in 2010\, as a small urban powwow to support Native youth has now become one of the Rapid City region’s largest New Year’s powwows.  In those first few years of the Wambli Ska New Years Powwow\, there were a small number of dancers and a few drums. SUMMARY:Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:2017 Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \nRelive the Civil War in North Carolina at the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment on November 3-5\, 2017 on the Hot Springs Resort and Spa Grounds in Hot Springs\, North Carolina. Come visit and experience firsthand Confederate and Union Armies clashing in battle. Infantry\, Artillery and Cavalry elements will be engaged in controlling this vital ground during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment. Visit period vendors and buy what the soldiers would have bought. Stroll through the camps and talk with the soldiers\, listen to their stories\, enjoy the camaraderie of their fires and songs. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMHMeMgKW3w&width=540&height=333[/embedyt] \nThroughout the Civil War\, the mountain passes and roads between Tennessee and North Carolina were vital for the movement of troops and supplies. None were more important than the Buncombe Turnpike built in 1828 that ran through the mountains at Warm Springs\, North Carolina. This area would see many conflicts throughout the war\, with both sides trying to gain control of the area. \nThe Civil War in Madison County\, North Carolina\nBecause Madison County was a “border county” in a “border state” during the Civil War\, there are many examples of communities as well as families divided in their allegiances. There were no major battles in Madison County although both armies moved through the area and Madison County furnished troops for both sides. A few skirmishes were fought within the County: one at Cuffey Field on Spring Creek and a second on the hotel grounds at Warm Springs (the former name of the town of Hot Springs). Each year since 2008\, the Hot Springs Resort & Spa has hosted a Civil War re-enactment of that skirmish\, the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, on the first weekend of November. \n\nReenactor registration is $5.00 for pre-registration by October 15\, $15.00 after that date.\nIf you intend on renting a cabin or room during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment weekend\, you should reserve it soon as they will fill up fast\nAn evening meal will be served for pre-registered re-enactors. SUMMARY:Tecumseh Rendezvous
DESCRIPTION:Tecumseh Rendezvous at Tecumseh Oklahoma Frontier Days\nJoin us for the 3rd Annual Tecumseh Rendezvous on September 14-16\, 2017 less than one mile south of downtown Tecumseh\, Oklahoma at the intersection of Broadway and Highway 177. The Tecumseh Rendezvous takes place in conjunction with the Tecumseh Oklahoma Frontier Days Celebration hosted by the Indian Territory Rendezvous Club and is held on the third weekend in September. \nHistorical Background\nThe Rendezvous celebrates the early 1800s when this part of the western frontier was first explored by the young nation of the United States of America. We had recently acquired this land from the French. Many historic people traveled through this frontier including Randolph Marcy and James Wilkerson (a contingent of Pike’s expedition in 1806). \nThis area was made famous by the noted American writer\, Washington Irving\, during his journey through the Cross Timbers\, an area known for its dense forest which Irving characterized as a “forest of cast iron.” Irving was accompanied by Henry Ellsworth\, the new Commissioner of Indian Lands\, and two notable Europeans\, Latrobe and Count DePourtalés. During this time\, a rendezvous would occur\, an event where trappers and traders would gather along with Indian tribes and merchants to exchange goods for skins and pelts. Mountain men would look forward to these rendezvous as an annual opportunity to do business\, restock\, carouse and generally enjoy the company of their peers. Although formal rendezvous did not occur in Oklahoma\, these types of impromptu social gatherings certainly occurred whenever the eastern travelers met with representatives of Indian tribes in this rich and fertile hunting ground. It’s in this spirit that we hold a rendezvous in the timbers of Tecumseh to share with modern students of history this fascinating and tantalizing slice of time. \n– Pre-1840 Rules apply ti akkm trade goods included\n– No vehicles in camp\, 1 hour unload time\n– Firewood & Water Furnished\n– Perod dress required for primitive camp and traders row\n– Trade blanket allowed\n– Dutch oven cook-off and pot luck dinner on Saturday evening\n– Dogs on leash\, campers and public\n– Downtown Parage on Saturday\n– Events in town Wednesday through Saturday\n– Campers $20; Traders $40\n– Competition fee $5 per camper\n– No walk-in competitors \nAbout Frontier Days\nThe annual Frontier Days celebration occurs the third weekend of September with events scheduled from Thursday though Sunday. The purpose of this annual festival is to celebrate our rich and cultured past with those who call Tecumseh home and with our neighbors from around the state and region. The Tecumseh Redezvous was added to the festival in 2015. \nThis family-friendly festival includes Native American dancers\, live bands\, and 1800s characters in period costumes. Bring the kids to enjoy the small carnival\, peruse the entries in the annual car show\, dance in the street and take a walk through the Rendezvous – or as we like to call it – a walk through our historic past. \nCome to Frontier Days and the Tecumseh Rrendezvous to immerse yourself in the spirit of the Old West. Walk through the Rendezvous located less than a mile from town. Walk through the trees\, grab some grub from the food tent and interact with archery makers\, craftsmen and women selling and demonstrating their wares. Leather workers\, gun and archery experts and topographers\, to name a few\, together with the tents and accouterments\, provide the setting that transports and connects us to our past. \nTentative Schedule of Events: Rendezvous and Festival \nTHURSDAY\nTecumseh Rendezvous\nAll day \n5-7 p.m. Indian Taco Dinner – City Hall\n6:45 p.m. Coronation of Frontier Sweetheart & Frontiersman – City Hall\n7:15 -9 p.m. Gospel Sing Coordinated by Ministerial Alliance\nIn front of City Hall (Bring your lawn chairs) \nFRIDAY\nTecumseh Rendezvous – All day \n5-8 p.m. Arts & Crafts Booths\, Street Vendors\n7-9 p.m. Street Dance\, Live Local Band\n8 p.m. Rodeo \nSATURDAY\n6-7 a.m. Registration\n7:30-7:45 a.m. Race begins\nBarney Shirey Memorial 5k Run\nLearn more and register.\nSee 2015 info; link will be updated when info is available. \n6-10 a.m. Pancake Breakfast – Tecumseh American Legion\n9 a.m. – 8 p.m. – Arts & Crafts Show – City Hall\n10 a.m. Frontier Days Parade\nNoon-10 p.m. Carnival – Park & Broadway \nTecumseh Rendezvous\nAll day \n3:30 p.m. Pie Eating Contest\n8 p.m. Rodeo\, Tecumseh Round-up Grounds \nFor more information: \nRedezvous: Booshway Ophus Ward 918-906-2082\nFrontier Days: Tim Cannon 405-615-5921 cannonone@aol.com \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Tecumseh Rendezvous less than one mile south of downtown Tecumseh\, OK. \nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous
