Come visit and experience firsthand Confederate and Union Armies clashing in battle. Infantry\, Artillery and Cavalry elements will be engaged in controlling this vital ground during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment. Visit period vendors and buy what the soldiers would have bought. Stroll through the camps and talk with the soldiers\, listen to their stories\, enjoy the camaraderie of their fires and songs. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMHMeMgKW3w&width=540&height=333[/embedyt] \nThroughout the Civil War\, the mountain passes and roads between Tennessee and North Carolina were vital for the movement of troops and supplies. None were more important than the Buncombe Turnpike built in 1828 that ran through the mountains at Warm Springs\, North Carolina. This area would see many conflicts throughout the war\, with both sides trying to gain control of the area. \nThe Civil War in Madison County\, North Carolina\nBecause Madison County was a “border county” in a “border state” during the Civil War\, there are many examples of communities as well as families divided in their allegiances. There were no major battles in Madison County although both armies moved through the area and Madison County furnished troops for both sides. A few skirmishes were fought within the County: one at Cuffey Field on Spring Creek and a second on the hotel grounds at Warm Springs (the former name of the town of Hot Springs). Each year since 2008\, the Hot Springs Resort & Spa has hosted a Civil War re-enactment of that skirmish\, the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, on the first weekend of November. \n\nReenactor registration is $5.00 for pre-registration by October 15\, $15.00 after that date.\nIf you intend on renting a cabin or room during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment weekend\, you should reserve it soon as they will fill up fast\nAn evening meal will be served for pre-registered re-enactors. You must have your pass.\nReenactor Registration Form Download\nArtillery/Cavalry registrations need to contact 2NCMI BEFORE registering.\n\nLocation\nHot Springs Resort and Spa Grounds\n315 Bridge Street\nHot Springs\, NC 28743\n(828) 622-7676 \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment in Hot Springs\, NC. \nTags: Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, Battle of Warm Springs Civil War Reenactment\, Warm Springs Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

SUMMARY:Tecumseh Rendezvous
DESCRIPTION:Tecumseh Rendezvous at Tecumseh Oklahoma Frontier Days\nJoin us for the 3rd Annual Tecumseh Rendezvous on September 14-16\, 2017 less than one mile south of downtown Tecumseh\, Oklahoma at the intersection of Broadway and Highway 177. The Tecumseh Rendezvous takes place in conjunction with the Tecumseh Oklahoma Frontier Days Celebration hosted by the Indian Territory Rendezvous Club and is held on the third weekend in September. \nHistorical Background\nThe Rendezvous celebrates the early 1800s when this part of the western frontier was first explored by the young nation of the United States of America. We had recently acquired this land from the French. Many historic people traveled through this frontier including Randolph Marcy and James Wilkerson (a contingent of Pike’s expedition in 1806). \nThis area was made famous by the noted American writer\, Washington Irving\, during his journey through the Cross Timbers\, an area known for its dense forest which Irving characterized as a “forest of cast iron.” Irving was accompanied by Henry Ellsworth\, the new Commissioner of Indian Lands\, and two notable Europeans\, Latrobe and Count DePourtalés. During this time\, a rendezvous would occur\, an event where trappers and traders would gather along with Indian tribes and merchants to exchange goods for skins and pelts. Mountain men would look forward to these rendezvous as an annual opportunity to do business\, restock\, carouse and generally enjoy the company of their peers. Although formal rendezvous did not occur in Oklahoma\, these types of impromptu social gatherings certainly occurred whenever the eastern travelers met with representatives of Indian tribes in this rich and fertile hunting ground. It’s in this spirit that we hold a rendezvous in the timbers of Tecumseh to share with modern students of history this fascinating and tantalizing slice of time. \n– Pre-1840 Rules apply ti akkm trade goods included\n– No vehicles in camp\, 1 hour unload time\n– Firewood & Water Furnished\n– Perod dress required for primitive camp and traders row\n– Trade blanket allowed\n– Dutch oven cook-off and pot luck dinner on Saturday evening\n– Dogs on leash\, campers and public\n– Downtown Parage on Saturday\n– Events in town Wednesday through Saturday\n– Campers $20; Traders $40\n– Competition fee $5 per camper\n– No walk-in competitors \nAbout Frontier Days\nThe annual Frontier Days celebration occurs the third weekend of September with events scheduled from Thursday though Sunday. The purpose of this annual festival is to celebrate our rich and cultured past with those who call Tecumseh home and with our neighbors from around the state and region. The Tecumseh Redezvous was added to the festival in 2015. \nThis family-friendly festival includes Native American dancers\, live bands\, and 1800s characters in period costumes. Bring the kids to enjoy the small carnival\, peruse the entries in the annual car show\, dance in the street and take a walk through the Rendezvous – or as we like to call it – a walk through our historic past. \nCome to Frontier Days and the Tecumseh Rrendezvous to immerse yourself in the spirit of the Old West. Walk through the Rendezvous located less than a mile from town. Walk through the trees\, grab some grub from the food tent and interact with archery makers\, craftsmen and women selling and demonstrating their wares. Leather workers\, gun and archery experts and topographers\, to name a few\, together with the tents and accouterments\, provide the setting that transports and connects us to our past. \nTentative Schedule of Events: Rendezvous and Festival \nTHURSDAY\nTecumseh Rendezvous\nAll day \n5-7 p.m. Indian Taco Dinner – City Hall\n6:45 p.m. Coronation of Frontier Sweetheart & Frontiersman – City Hall\n7:15 -9 p.m. Gospel Sing Coordinated by Ministerial Alliance\nIn front of City Hall (Bring your lawn chairs) \nFRIDAY\nTecumseh Rendezvous – All day \n5-8 p.m. Arts & Crafts Booths\, Street Vendors\n7-9 p.m. Street Dance\, Live Local Band\n8 p.m. Rodeo \nSATURDAY\n6-7 a.m. Registration\n7:30-7:45 a.m. Race begins\nBarney Shirey Memorial 5k Run\nLearn more and register.\nSee 2015 info; link will be updated when info is available. \n6-10 a.m. Pancake Breakfast – Tecumseh American Legion\n9 a.m. – 8 p.m. – Arts & Crafts Show – City Hall\n10 a.m. Frontier Days Parade\nNoon-10 p.m. Carnival – Park & Broadway \nTecumseh Rendezvous\nAll day \n3:30 p.m. Pie Eating Contest\n8 p.m. Rodeo\, Tecumseh Round-up Grounds \nFor more information: \nRedezvous: Booshway Ophus Ward 918-906-2082\nFrontier Days: Tim Cannon 405-615-5921 cannonone@aol.com \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Tecumseh Rendezvous less than one mile south of downtown Tecumseh\, OK. \nView other Buckskinner Rendezvous

Please cooperate in this regard.\nAppropriate dress and behavior is required in the arena. Anyone unwilling to abide by this rule will be asked to leave by the Arena Director. (If you are going to dance\, try to wear regalia)\nArena benches are reserved for dancers. Dancers wishing to reserve a space on the bench should place a blanket in that space before the dance begins. Please do not sit on someone else’s blanket unless invited. Uncovered benches are considered unreserved.\nListen to the Master of Ceremonies. He will announce who is to dance\, and when.\nRespect the position of the Head Man and Head Woman Dancers. Their role entitles them to start each song or set of songs. Please wait until they have started to dance before you join in.\nAsk to take pictures of dancers if they are outside the arena\nDo not touch someone regalia or feathers\, these are not costumes\, and they are earned.\nShow respect to the flags and Honor Songs by standing during “special” songs.”\nStand in place until the sponsors of the song have danced a complete circle and have come around you\, and then join in. If you are not dancing\, continue to stand quietly until the song is completed. ( Please remove your hat) While dancing at any pow wow\, honor the protocol of the sponsoring group.\nSome songs require that you dance only if you are familiar with the routine or are eligible to participate. Trot dances\, Snake\, Buffalo\, etc. require particular steps or routines. If you are not familiar with these dances\, observe and learn. Watch the head dancers to learn the procedures. Only veterans are permitted to dance some veteran’s songs\, unless otherwise stated; listen to the MC for instructions.\nThe Flag Song\, or Indian National Anthem\, is sung when the American Flag is raised or lowered. Please stand and remove hats during the singing of this song. It is not a song for dancing.\nPowwows are usually non-profit. It depends upon donations\, raffles\, blanket dances\, etc. for support. Donations are encouraged as a way to honor someone. Any participant can drop money onto the blanket to aid in the powwow expenses. Support the committee and buy raffle tickets.\nCertain items of religious significance should be worn only by those qualified to do so. Respect the traditions of Native American culture.\nPlease remember the Head Staff will be there to help dancers and answer questions. Be respectful of all dancers.\nThe Drums are sometimes closed\, check with the head singer for permission to sing.\nIf at any time you are uncertain of procedure or etiquette\, please check with the Head Staff\, or Arena Director. They will be glad to help you with your questions.\nTake a chair. Most powwows will not have seating for the public or enough seating for everyone. Also remember that the benches in the arena are for dancers only.\nNo alcohol or drugs are allowed at powwows .Food or drinks are not allowed in Arena\nIf taking pictures\, asked the dancer first. Remember common courtesy and ask permission. Group photographs are usually alright to take\, but you might want to ask the committee first.\nPlease leave your four legged friends at home for it is hard on them and remember there are small children around and people and the stress and noise can be to much.
