SUMMARY:German & British Soldiers Leave Fort Ticonderoga
DESCRIPTION:Watch as German & British Soldiers Leave Fort Ticonderoga on November 12\, 2016 at Historic Fort Ticonderoga in Ticonderoga\, NY. Thrill at the power of artillery\, celebrate Scottish Culture\, and enjoy the diverse and immersive special event experiences that are unique\, powerful\, and unforgettable for the whole family throughout the year. \n \nTiconderoga Train Station Shuttle\nFort Ticonderoga now offers FREE shuttle service from the Ticonderoga Train Station to Fort Ticonderoga and Best Western Plus Ticonderoga Inn and Suites. Advance registration is required; some blackout dates may apply. \nAbout the Withdrawal in 1777\nOn September 13\, 1777 a mission was launched against Ticonderoga by two American detachments of about 500 men each under the command of Brigadier General Jonathan Warner and Colonel John Brown were sent to Ticonderoga to secure the release of American prisoners\, destroy British provisions\, and if possible to attack the Fort. On the morning of September 18\, the forces converged on Ticonderoga. Over the next few days Colonel John Brown’s force captured the British blockhouse at the top of Mount Defiance\, secured the release of 118 American prisoners and captured nearly 300 British soldiers. \nBrown’s men also burned several of the Fort’s outbuildings and destroyed about 150 batteaux. However the American forces soon realized that without reinforcements and additional supplies\, a direct attack on the Fort would not succeed\, and on September 22 Colonel Brown’s force called off the attack. Less than a month later\, the British army surrendered at Saratoga. \nIn early November\, cut off\, short of food\, and the weather getting colder the British-held posts of Fort Ticonderoga and Mount Independence made the hard decision to withdraw back to Canada. \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

SUMMARY:Indian National Finals Powwow
DESCRIPTION:Experience the 1st Annual Indian National Finals Powwow on November 9-11\, 2016 at the Cashman Center in Las Vegas\, Nevada. For the first time ever\, we will be crowning ‘World Champions” of powwow in Las Vegas. This extraordinary event will be held in conjunction with the Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR). For over 40 years\, the Indian National Finals (INFR) has crowned “World Champions” in the rodeo circuit. Indian National Finals Powwow School Days will take place on Wednesday; the powwow and competition will follow on Thursday and Friday. \nThe planning of INFP was started two years ago by its commissioner\, Frank White Calfe (ND). In that time\, we have done research\, consulted with notable powwow dancers\, head staff and talked with major powwows across the country including The Gathering of Nations and Denver March Powwow. We have collected valuable information that has answered a couple of important questions. What will attract powwow people? And most of all\, how do we gain the support of Tribal Communities across the United States and Canada. \nIndian National Finals Powwow Youth Day: November 9\, 2016\nOn behalf of the Indian National Finals Powwow (INFP)\, we are excited to reach out to the students of the Las Vegas area schools and extend our invitation to the 1st Annual INFP Native American Youth Day at Cashman Center. Youth Day will take place the day before the 2-day powwow. There have been many misconceptions about Native American culture in today’s society. The Indian National Finals Powwow (INFP) has put a special day aside for education. It is important for our future generations to grow together with understanding because with understanding\, comes acceptance. So to accommodate these thoughts\, we have put together a program filled with Native American dance demonstrations\, story-telling\, motivational speakers and much more. \nThe Indian National Finals Powwow Youth Day is free and open to the public. We will have two showtimes available on Wednesday. The morning show will begin at 10 pm and the afternoon show will start at noon. Throughout the day costumed performers go about their garrison duties interacting with guest and visitors\, demonstrating the crafts and skills that were used to fill ones personal\, and the community’s daily need. \n[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SD-FF9HtxY&width=650&height=400[/embedyt] \n18th Century Fort Loudoun Christmas Candlelight Tour\nLiving history makes Fort Loudoun not only a unique historical stage but also an educational theater concerning the lifestyles of Early Americans. Garrison troops and officers provide insight into their daily routines with several displays of 18th century military might which included Artillery Drills\, Musket Drills\, Posting of the decorations Fort Loudoun Guard\, and marching in rank around the grounds\, as well as mock battles that are presented at some special events. \nThe Christmas program at Fort Loudoun offers us a vintage look at “Christmas Past.” A view of a more simple and humble time for those isolated far from home and country. No light shows\, no fancy decorations\, no grand hoop-la just the Spirit of a sacred time\, a time of giving and reflection. \nThere’s no line waiting to sit on Santa’s lap\, though it may be no Santa at Fort Loudoun confusing for some little children being that the grounds are full of men in long bright “red coats.” The decorations around the fort are modest\, a little hemlock\, berries and a red velvet bow here and there with accents of holiday coloring within the houses and barracks. \nSome of the highlights of a Fort Loudoun Christmas include a Christmas Church Service\, Wassail Tasting and Christmas Carols with a special holiday Candlelight Tour of the Fort that will commence at 6:00 pm and end at 7 pm. \nFor more information call 423-884-6217.\nCONTACT INFORMATION\nPark Office\nPhone: 423-884-6217 \nAbout Fort Loudoun & Fort Loudoun Events \nCONTACT INFORMATION\nPark Office/Registration 423-884-6217 hobart.akin@tn.gov \nDon’t miss the next 18th Century Fort Loudoun Christmas Candlelight Tour at the Fort Loudoun State Park in Vonore\, TN. \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

DESCRIPTION:Join us at the annual Buckskin Bill Rendezvous in Cascade\, Idaho on July 15\, 2016. Fur trade dress required. Come enjoy the rendezvous named after “the last of the mountain men”. \nCONTACT\nPaul Bolin 208-631-8268\nCharlie Swindell 208-559-7408 \nWHEN\nFriday\, July 15\, 2016 03:00 pm \nLOCATION: Kennedy Ranch\, Cascade\, ID\nCascade\, Idaho 83611 \nAbout Buckskin Bill \nBuckskin Bill\, also known as “the last of the mountain men\,” forged a seemingly primitive life for himself along the banks of Idaho’s Salmon River. Born Sylvan Ambrose Hart in 1906\, he received his nickname from local Forest Service rangers for the tanned deer hides he wore as clothing. Raised in Oklahoma Territory\, he eventually found his way to the Five Mile Bar along the Salmon River in 1932 and made it his home. \nMostly eschewing the dubious comforts of city life and strangling restrictions on personal freedoms there\, Buckskin Bill chose a more solitary\, utterly self-sufficient life by the Salmon. He fished\, trapped\, hunted\, raised crops\, made his own food and clothing and wine. \nSylvan Hart possessed even more skills than those demanded by living off the land. He also held an engineering degree from Oklahoma University; studied Latin\, Greek\, French\, German\, Russian\, Swahili\, Portuguese\, Spanish\, and Norwegian; took courses in petroleum engineering as a graduate student; and worked on the top-secret Norden Bombsight at Boeing’s Kansas factory during World War II. He may have lived what appeared to be a simple life\, but clearly he was not remotely a simple man. \nWhen it came to picking enemies\, Buckskin Bill chose a fairly big one: the National Forest Service. After having lived quietly in his chosen riverside haven for years\, Buckskin bristled when the Forest Service pushed to have the entire place designated as a Primitive Area\, which meant no human habitation whatsoever allowed. Eventually\, the government was convinced that one man who lived off the land in an authentic manner deserved to stay there. \nBuckskin Bill died in 1980\, a mountain man to the last. The Buckskin Bill Museum\, located on the Salmon River’s Five Mile Bar\, showcases the actual items he made and used in his lifetime.

For all of her 78 years Big Ma could never completely shake the fear of openly sharing her heritage\, out of concern that she would be forced to Oklahoma like her ancestors during the Trail of Tears. \nThat secret slipped only after her daughter Mittie Wood started the annual Mother’s Day Pow Wow in her own mother’s honor with the blessing of the Pasco County commissioners back in 1991. “Do you know what you’re doing?” Wood\, now 68\, recalls her late mother asking. “They’re gonna come get us and take us to Oklahoma.” \nWood said the Mittie Wood Memorial Mothers Day Native American Pow Wow\nwas born after her twin granddaughters\, who wore traditional Creek regalia\, started kindergarten and were teased at school. She started voluntarily educating Pasco’s schoolchildren about American Indian culture and soon saw a shift in acceptance. She began planning a powwow to showcase traditions like dance\, storytelling\, blow guns and flint knapping. The first year drew about 600 people over the three days\, she said. Now the turnout is more like 2\,500 to 3\,000 throughout the weekend. \nThe Withlacoochee River Park includes A Creek Village built years ago specifically for the Mittie Wood Memorial Mothers Day Native American Pow Wow\, as well as an arena where storytelling\, demonstrations and performances are held. \nWhile the powwow is dedicated to Big Ma\, it goes out to all mothers. \nBig Ma died a decade after the powwow began\, and her ashes were released in the Withlacoochee River\, not far from the powwow site. But her spirit lives through her family and the simple message she taught them: “Be proud of where you come from\, no matter where it is.” \nNo drugs\, alcohol\, or firearms. All pets must be on a leash (with owner on the other end). All wolf hybrids must have papers to enter pow wow. \nMark your calendar so you don’t miss the next Mittie Wood Memorial Mothers Day Native American Pow Wow in Dade City\, FL. \nView other Florida Pow Wows
