French explorer Robert de La Salle (1643-87) helped the Peoria Indians build a fort in 1860 to defend themselves against the Iroquois. LaSalle made a deal with the local tribes to protect them from the Iroquois tribal league. LaSalle fostered good relationships with the tribes—Fort Creve Coeur wasn’t around too long though—this original site quickly became abandoned as Tonti left to fortify Starved Rock. Tonti’s mission to Starved Rock was to only end in failure though. However\, the Fort Crevecoeur’s seven man garrison quit their fort\, destroyed the fortifications\, and made a trek to Canada. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Fort Crevecoeur French and Indian War Reenactment in Creve Couer\, IL. \nView other French & Indian War Reenactments and Other Events

The military units we represent are the 1st North Carolina Volunteers (the Bethel Regiment) and the 11th North Carolina Regiment. This allows flexibility to adapt to any reenactment period and still remain historically correct. 1st NC Volunteers often coordinate their efforts with state and national historic sites and events\, such as the Spring Fort Macon Civil War Reenactment. \nAbout The Battle of Fort Macon in 1862\nThe Siege of Fort Macon took place from March 23 to April 26\, 1862\, on the Outer Banks of Carteret County\, North Carolina. It was part of Union Army General Ambrose E. Burnside’s North Carolina Expedition during the American Civil War.\nIn late March\, Major General Burnside’s army advanced on Fort Macon\, a fort that commanded the channel to Beaufort\, 35 miles southeast of New Bern. The Union force engaged the fort with siege works and on April 25 opened an accurate fire on the fort\, soon breaching the masonry walls. Within a few hours the fort’s scarp began to collapse\, and in late afternoon the Confederate commander\, Colonel Moses J. White\, ordered the raising of a white flag. Burnside’s terms of surrender were accepted\, and the Federal troops took possession of the fort the next morning. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Spring Fort Macon Civil War Reenactment in Atlantic Beach\, North Carolina. \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

Uncovered benches are considered unreserved.\nListen to the Master of Ceremonies. He will announce who is to dance\, and when.\nRespect the position of the Head Man and Head Woman Dancers. Their role entitles them to start each song or set of songs. Please wait until they have started to dance before you join in.\nAsk to take pictures of dancers if they are outside the arena\nDo not touch someone regalia or feathers\, these are not costumes\, and they are earned.\nShow respect to the flags and Honor Songs by standing during “special” songs.”\nStand in place until the sponsors of the song have danced a complete circle and have come around you\, and then join in. If you are not dancing\, continue to stand quietly until the song is completed. ( Please remove your hat) While dancing at any pow wow\, honor the protocol of the sponsoring group.\nSome songs require that you dance only if you are familiar with the routine or are eligible to participate. Trot dances\, Snake\, Buffalo\, etc. require particular steps or routines. If you are not familiar with these dances\, observe and learn. Watch the head dancers to learn the procedures. Only veterans are permitted to dance some veteran’s songs\, unless otherwise stated; listen to the MC for instructions.\nThe Flag Song\, or Indian National Anthem\, is sung when the American Flag is raised or lowered. Please stand and remove hats during the singing of this song. It is not a song for dancing.\nPowwows are usually non-profit. It depends upon donations\, raffles\, blanket dances\, etc. for support. Donations are encouraged as a way to honor someone. Any participant can drop money onto the blanket to aid in the powwow expenses. Support the committee and buy raffle tickets.\nCertain items of religious significance should be worn only by those qualified to do so. Respect the traditions of Native American culture.\nPlease remember the Head Staff will be there to help dancers and answer questions. Be respectful of all dancers.\nThe Drums are sometimes closed\, check with the head singer for permission to sing.\nIf at any time you are uncertain of procedure or etiquette\, please check with the Head Staff\, or Arena Director. They will be glad to help you with your questions.\nTake a chair. Most powwows will not have seating for the public or enough seating for everyone. Also remember that the benches in the arena are for dancers only.\nNo alcohol or drugs are allowed at powwows .Food or drinks are not allowed in Arena\nIf taking pictures\, asked the dancer first. Remember common courtesy and ask permission. SUMMARY:Frontier Forts Days
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 16th annual Frontier Forts Days on May 12-13\, 2017 at the Historic Stockyards in Fort Worth\, Texas. During this free\, two-day heritage Frontier Forts Days event\, the Stockyards National Historic District is transformed into an authentic representation of Texas frontier life. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nNkst75BD0&width=540&height=333[/embedyt] \nThe Texas Forts Days Celebration was created in 2001 to celebrate the heritage of Texas’s Frontier fort settlements\, like Fort Worth\, concentrating on the years from the early Republic in 1836 to the closing of the frontier and settlement of the late 1800s. The camps\, soldiers\, Native Americans\, settlers\, and weaponry all reflect the region’s vast expanses of open land\, when most of Texas was unsettled and our big cities were generations in the future. \nExchange Avenue in the Stockyards will be lined with encampments of historic fort sites from the Texas Forts Trail and elsewhere in Texas. Approximately 10 forts and related programs will participate in the event. Designed to highlight frontier-era life\, Frontier Forts Days brings together authentic wagons\, flags\, music\, colorful uniforms and military gear from Texas landmarks. \nInfantry\, artillery and cavalry demonstrations\, and military parades will fill the event schedule on Friday and Saturday. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Frontier Forts Days at the Historic Stockyards in Fort Worth\, TX. \nView other History Festivals & Events
