Come visit and experience firsthand Confederate and Union Armies clashing in battle. Infantry\, Artillery and Cavalry elements will be engaged in controlling this vital ground during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment. Visit period vendors and buy what the soldiers would have bought. Stroll through the camps and talk with the soldiers\, listen to their stories\, enjoy the camaraderie of their fires and songs. \n[embedyt]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMHMeMgKW3w&width=540&height=333[/embedyt] \nThroughout the Civil War\, the mountain passes and roads between Tennessee and North Carolina were vital for the movement of troops and supplies. None were more important than the Buncombe Turnpike built in 1828 that ran through the mountains at Warm Springs\, North Carolina. This area would see many conflicts throughout the war\, with both sides trying to gain control of the area. \nThe Civil War in Madison County\, North Carolina\nBecause Madison County was a “border county” in a “border state” during the Civil War\, there are many examples of communities as well as families divided in their allegiances. There were no major battles in Madison County although both armies moved through the area and Madison County furnished troops for both sides. A few skirmishes were fought within the County: one at Cuffey Field on Spring Creek and a second on the hotel grounds at Warm Springs (the former name of the town of Hot Springs). Each year since 2008\, the Hot Springs Resort & Spa has hosted a Civil War re-enactment of that skirmish\, the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, on the first weekend of November. \n\nReenactor registration is $5.00 for pre-registration by October 15\, $15.00 after that date.\nIf you intend on renting a cabin or room during the Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment weekend\, you should reserve it soon as they will fill up fast\nAn evening meal will be served for pre-registered re-enactors. You must have your pass.\nReenactor Registration Form Download\nArtillery/Cavalry registrations need to contact 2NCMI BEFORE registering.\n\nLocation\nHot Springs Resort and Spa Grounds\n315 Bridge Street\nHot Springs\, NC 28743\n(828) 622-7676 \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment in Hot Springs\, NC. \nTags: Battle of Warm Springs Reenactment\, Battle of Warm Springs Civil War Reenactment\, Warm Springs Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

What began\, in 2010\, as a small urban powwow to support Native youth has now become one of the Rapid City region’s largest New Year’s powwows.  In those first few years of the Wambli Ska New Years Powwow\, there were a small number of dancers and a few drums. In 2015\, there were 232 registered dancers and 18 drums\, plus the host drum. \n[embedyt] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfUfiLWvByM&width=650&height=400[/embedyt] \nWambli Ska New Years Powwow\nWhite Eagle\, along with her husband Doran\, saw a need to help the Native kids in the community. Both being avid powwow dancers\, they noticed that there was no local youth drum group or dance club. They rented space in a local church and began inviting kids to come and learn to sing and dance. Eventually\, their families joined in. \nThe powwow committee formed the New Year’s event to showcase their singers and dancers. Due to the widespread popularity\, a non-profit was formed in 2012 to support the growing annual New Year’s powwow. This year’s event awarded $25\,000 in prizes. \nADMISSION: Free and open to public \nGrand Entry Times December 30 – Grand Entry – 7pm December 31 – Grand Entry – Noon & 6pm January 1 – Grand Entry – 1pm \nContest Songs Set: Friday: One song for everyone! SUMMARY:Morgans Victory March Reenactment
DESCRIPTION:2018 Morgans Victory March Reenactment\n\nRate This Event\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nJoin us for the annual Morgans Victory March Reenactment on January 13-14\, 2018\, taking the route of Daniel Morgan and his Flying Army on a two-day 25 mile walk that will begin at Grindal Shoals\, near Pacolet\, and end at the Cowpens National Battlefield. The reenactment takes place on the weekend in January that is closest to the original date of January 15-16\, 1781. \nOn the March we relive Morgan’s activities during the two-day race with the enemy while also planning how to use his soldiers to win a great victory at a place called the Cowpens. Hikers and bikers (non-motorized) may go the entire route or choose only the segments that interest them. Horseback riders are welcome to participate as horses add to the excitement along the route. Reenactors and historians will describe what was happening at that time over 200 years ago as the militia units were mustering and moving to help Morgan’s Continentals defend their homeland against British invaders. \nTwo Day March: The first leg of the march is about 13 and one half miles. The Sunday portion\, ending at the Cowpens National Battlefield\, is about 11 and one half miles. \nRegistration is required: Marchers should pre-register with the Town of Pacolet (864-474-950) or email eharris@townofpacolet.com. Marchers will be asked to sign a waiver of liability for the sponsors and landowners located along the route. There is no charge for marcher but donations will be accepted. \nTransportation: It is not necessary that you walk the entire distance. There will be horse drawn wagons and carriages for those that prefer not to walk. \nMarchers should wear warm clothes suitable for the weather and bring their own snacks. The marchers will see the beautiful country from Grindal Shoals to Cowpens National Battlefield. The Morgans Victory March is a great way to get an idea how the weather\, natural conditions\, and distance helped shape how the Victory of Cowpens turned out! \nOn this weekend tour\, we will march along the same route at about the same pace that Morgan used as he moved his army on January 15th and 16th in 1781. This year the National Battlefield will award a “Morgan’s Flying Army” medal to first-time marchers that complete the entire route! \nDuring Morgans Victory March\, reenactors and historians will describe what was happening in 1781 as the militia units were mustering and moving to help Morgan’ Continentals defend their homeland against the British invaders. \nStarting Location Grindal Shoals\, South Carolina https://goo.gl/maps/QDua9NhqQ6C2 Geo Coordinates: 34°53’18.5″N 81°38’35.4″W\, \nMorgan and Grindal Shoals Until just the morning before Tarleton crossed at Easterwood\, General Morgan and his little army had been camped at Grindal Shoals\, just 5 miles downstream from Easterwood and about 7 miles from the Pacolet Mills bridge. Morgan and his army had arrived at Grindal Shoals on Christmas Day\, about three weeks before. On the night of Jan. 14\, Morgan had received word that Tarleton and his army were coming after him. The next morning\, on Jan. 15\, Morgan had started his army on the march in an effort to get away from the British. His army marched up the Green River Road. Today\, some of that road is known as the Asbury Highway or Hwy 211. His army entered the Asbury Highway portion just beside where Wagstop Plantation is located today. After a few miles\, they turned right on the part of the Green River Road that is known today as “Goucher School Road”. This is just before where Knuckles Chapel Church is located today. \nJust one day behind them\, the British army marched up the Quarter Round Road until they too came into the Green River Road at an intersection near to the present location of Knuckles Chapel. Now\, both armies were on the same road to their deadly meeting at Cowpens. \nEnding Location Cowpens National Battlefield 338 New Pleasant Road Gaffney\, SC 29341 (864) 461-2828 \nThe Battle of Cowpens was a very important American victory against overwhelming odds. The Battleground is about 9 miles northwest of Cowpens. The American General Daniel Morgan did all he could do to get away from the British army under Tarleton. As we have seen at Easterwood and Grindal Shoals\, the British army was just moving too fast for Morgan to get away. Morgan realized that Tarleton was going to catch him. He decided to stop and fight him at a place of his own choosing rather than to let Tarleton catch his army as it was crossing the Broad River only five miles away. \nMorgan planned a brilliant strategy for the battle that is still studied in Military Schools to this day. The battle was fought in the early morning on January 17\, 1781 and barely lasted an hour. It was a complete Patriot victory over the British army. The Patriot forces under General Morgan crushed and destroyed the British army. It contributed to the British surrender at Yorktown\, Virginia ten months later. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Morgans Victory March Reenactment and be part of “Morgans’ Flying Army!” \nTags: Morgans Victory March Reenactment\, Morgans Victory March\, Revolutionary War Reenactment \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events

Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman was moving his army north towards Goldsboro in two columns. The right column (Army of the Tennessee) was under the command of Maj. Gen. Oliver O. Howard and the left column (Army of Georgia) was under Maj. Gen. Henry W. Slocum.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nConfederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston sent Lt. Gen. William J. Hardee’s corps to attack Slocum’s left wing while it was separated from the rest of Sherman’s forces. Slocum’s troops had crossed the Cape Fear River at Fayetteville and were marching up the Raleigh plank road. Near Averasboro\, they encountered Hardee’s corps. On the morning of the March 16\, troops of the Union XX Corps under Maj. Gen. Alpheus S. Williams were driven back by a Confederate assault. When reinforcements arrived\, the Union forces counter attacked and drove back two lines of Confederates\, but were stopped by a third line. By this time\, units from Maj. Gen. Jefferson C. Davis’s XIV Corps began to arrive on the field. Outnumbered and in danger of being flanked\, Hardee’s troops withdrew. \nThe Confederates had not held up the Union Army as long as they had hoped. Each side suffered about 700 casualties; however\, these were losses the Federals could afford while the Confederates could not. The Battle of Averasboro was fought on the grounds of Oak Grove\, near Erwin\, North Carolina.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment Battle of Black River in February at the Oak Grove Plantation in Godwin\, North Carolina. \nTags: Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment Battle of Black River\, Oak Grove Plantation Civil War Reenactment\, Battle of Black River Reenactment\, Battle of Averasboro Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events

Over the course of the day\, Union troops\, including the 2nd and 99th United States Colored Troops (USCT)\, attempted to charge over the Natural Bridge. Each charge was repulsed by artillery and small arms fire by the Confederate defenders. By days end\, Union forces retreated to the protection of the Federal fleet at St. Marks. Tallahassee became the only Southern Capital east of the Mississippi River not to succumb to military capture by Union Troops during the Civil War. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Natural Bridge Reenactment in March at the Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park in Tallahassee\, Florida. \nTags: Battle of Natural Bridge Reenactment\, Reenactment of the Battle of Natural Bridge\, Civil War Battle of Natural Bridge Reenactment\, Florida Civil War Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments\, Encampments & Other Events
