Many came to Honolulu via military service\, new job opportunities\, enrolling in school\, marriage or through adoption. Presently\, the Honolulu Intertribal Powwow is being sponsored through the Oahu Intertribal Council (OIC). We are currently working to revive and restore the Honolulu Intertribal Powwow to its formative years by working closely with our elders\, participating in community and cultural events on Oahu and building our Native relationships with the Island of Hawaii\, Kauai\, and Maui powwows. It’s Powwow Time\, make your plans now to attend the Annual Honolulu Intertribal Powwow this October! \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t forget the next Honolulu Intertribal Powwow in Honolulu\, Hawaii. \nTags: Honolulu Intertribal Powwow\, Honolulu Intertribal Pow Wow\, Hawaii Powwow\, Hawaii POw Wow \nView other Hawaii Powwows

Read the entire article. \n\nBattle of Perryville Reenactment\nUnlike other events\, at the Battle of Perryville Reenactment\, you will be on actual ground that the armies of North and South engaged to determine the destiny of Kentucky! Your military leadership is experienced and their primary responsibility is to you and making sure you have an outstanding time while representing and honoring those who fought at Perryville! \nPerryville Battlefield is a nationally significant Civil War site. Although Confederate forces were victorious on the battlefield at Perryville\, the Rebels eventual evacuation of the state forever lost Kentucky’s resources and men for the Confederacy. The Confederate loss of Kentucky along with Lee’s loss at Antietam set the stage for Abraham Lincoln to change the cause and course of the war. We strive to educate the visiting public on the key role that Perryville played in the Civil War. The battle would settle Kentucky’s allegiance as well as help to define national politics which forever changed our nation. \nRecreating small sections of the original engagement during the Battle of Perryville Reenactment is one form of interpretation used by Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site to fulfill its mission of preserving and interpreting history. \nThe Battle of Perryville Reenactment takes place on the first ‘full’ weekend of October\, including Friday – Sunday. There will be an all day unscripted tactical on Friday\, a sunrise battle and “The Cornfield” on Saturday. The “Fight for the Bottom’s Farm” occurs on Sunday afternoon. (Detailed battle descriptions are included in the information on this page.) \nAdmission\nAdult: $4.00; Adult Group (10 or more) $3.50\nChild ( 7 to 12) $3.00 (6 and under FREE); Child Group (10 or more) $2.50\nMilitary & Senior discount $3.50 \nLocation\nPerryville Battlefield State Historic Site\n1825 Battlefield Road\nPerryville\, KY 40468 \nFor More Information: 859-332-8631 friendsofperryville@gmail.com \nBattle of Perryville Reenactment Mini-Gallery\n\n \nReenactor and Visitor Information\nFor detailed reenactor information (artillery\, cavalry\, infantry)\, civilians and sutlers\, refer to the Official Website and select the navigation buttons labeled for the information you need. \nWho can participate in the Battle of Perryville Reenactment and where do we camp?\nEveryone who has an impression that meets the guidelines may participant either as a military or civilian reenactor. You may participate with a reenactment unit\, mess or as an individual. There will be camping areas for campaigners\, fixed military camps\, and an authentic civilian area. There will be a mixed camp for civilians and military camping together. There is no modern camping on the park. Due to the nature of the Battle of Perryville Reenactment we cannot permit walk-ons. \nBattle of Perryville Reenactment Hosting Organization\nThe Kentucky Department of Parks is hosting the event. The military organizations that are responsible to the Kentucky Department of Parks are the Western Federal Blues\, and the Southern Division. They successfully planned and executed the 150th Anniversary Event and we are pleased to have them put forth the time\, trouble and expense to help us raise much needed preservation funding for the battlefield. \nBattle of Perryville Reenactment scenarios?\nIt is very easy to plan the scenarios for Perryville. The generals wrote them 150 plus years ago. The park historian has each army’s movement broken down into 15 minute increments and the scenarios will be scripted to those movements. \nThe Cornfield: Saturday 2:00 PM\nThis scenario simulates the events that took place at approximately 2:00 PM on Wednesday\, October 8th\, 1862. While General Daniel Donelson’s brigade was moving forward into attack position\, Brigadier General William R. Terrill’s Union Brigade was in the process of forming their line on the “Open Knob”. Maney’s Brigade\, assisted by Wharton’s Cavalry\, attacked with vigor\, rolling over Terrill’s regiments as they arrived on the field piecemeal. \nThe Fight for Bottom’s Barn: Sunday 1:00 PM\nThis battle scenario simulates the events that took place at approximately 3:00 PM on Wednesday\, October 8th\, 1862. Since about 10:00 in the morning\, William H. Lytle’s brigade had taken up position on the right flank of Union 1st Corps commanded by General Alexander M. McCook. The 3rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry\, supported by the 15th Kentucky infantry\, were positioned in Henry P. Bottom’s barn yard overlooking Henry Bottom’s House. Since there appeared little threat to their front\, another regiment\, the 42nd Indiana\, was sent forward to the semi-dry bed of Doctor’s Creek to rest\, boil some coffee\, and fill their empty canteens in the drought-stricken area. Suddenly\, the calm was broken by a fusillade of Confederate artillery shot and shell landing all around. Soon after\, two heavily supported Confederate Infantry brigades came out of the woods and attacked towards the 3rd Ohio and the 15th Kentucky\, driving the hapless 42nd Indiana in a panic from the creek bed. \nThe Confederates had problems too. Bushrod R. Johnson’s Confederate brigade was assigned to attack this area. The Confederates became mixed and disorganized by the cliffs along the creek\, just to the north of the road as well as other terrain features. \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Perryville Reenactment on the first full weekend of October at the Perryville Battlefield in Perryville\, Kentucky. \nTags: Battle of Perryville Reenactment\, Battle of Perryville Civil War Reenactment\, Perryville Battlefield Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

In honor of warriors and veterans\, the Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society Ceremonial focuses on Native Americans in the military and their sacrifices\, both for their tribe and country. The Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society Ceremonial includes traditional dancing\, a presentation of colors and the singing of a war mother’s song. The Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society\, known as the Ton-Kon-Gah\, was established many generations ago to honor veterans. This historic event dates back to over 200 years ago. \n\nKiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society Ceremonial\nNOTE: This is a video “Slide Show” as movie-type videos are not permitted. \nCome to the Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society Ceremonial to witness traditional events including a special dance that is actually a re-enactment of an early 1800s battle. During the dance\, visitors to this event will witness pistol and rifle fire\, raised lances and the beating of ceremonial drums. The drumbeat gradually increases until a tribesman rushes into the dance and strikes the drum. After stopping the drumbeat\, he must then tell a personal war story. \nVisitors to the Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society Ceremonial will hear keynote speakers and receive a free lunch at noon each day of the event. The event is free and open to the public. \nVideotaping is not allowed at the event\, and although photography is allowed\, permission must be obtained first. \nAbout the Kiowa Black Leggings Society\nMany theories attempt to explain how the Kiowa Black Leggings received their name. Legend has it that the Kiowa received blackened legs from running back onto a battlefield after it had been burned by fire – the tribe keeps this battle-worthy tradition alive by wearing black leggings or painting their legs black. During the ceremony\, tribe members also carry a lance\, each one decorated to reflect the owner’s military past. However it originated\, the name Black Leggings stuck\, and the society became one of the best horse-mounted forces on the plains. \nToday\, society members wear authentic regalia that includes a black string shawl on the waist\, a red cape draped over the shoulders\, a decorated lance or spear and black paint or leggings used to darken the legs from the knees down. The adornment each member chooses to place on their lance represents their individual military experience. \nLocation\nIndian City Ceremonial Campgrounds\nAnadarko\, OK 73005\n405-247-8896 \nFor More Information: Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society\nCall (580) 755-0315; Email kiowablackleggings@gmail.com \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society Ceremonial at Indian City Ceremonial Campgrounds in Anadarko\, Oklahoma. \nTags: Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society Ceremonial\, Kiowa Black Leggings Warrior Society\, Ton-Kon-Gah\, Oklahoma Powwow\, Oklahoma Pow Wow \nView Other Powwows in Oklahoma

Thousands of skilled interpreters\, French\, English and other military reenactors\, musicians\, and artisans engage the imagination while inspiring exploration of the music\, cultures\, and crafts of the past. The first European settlement in Indiana\, Fort Ouiatenon experienced different cultures and lifeways that built our nation. \n\nFeast of the Hunters Moon\nThe Feast of the Hunters Moon offers both the public and the participants a realistic portrayal of the people\, cultures\, and lifestyles that existed on the French and English colonial frontier in the Great Lakes region during the time of Fort Ouiatenon\, which encompassed the period from 1717-1791. We want to interpret this time and place as accurately as possible in order to offer the public an educational and unforgettable experience\, and also to honor the people who lived here. \nThe Feast of the Hunters Moon is a weekend festival and historical reenactment held each fall on the first weekend of October (first Sunday) since 1968\, at the present-day site of Fort Ouiatenon\, a replica 18th century French military and trading post near West Lafayette\, Indiana. \nThe Feast is held on the grounds of the Historic Fort Ouiatenon Park\, on the Wabash River. The blockhouse is a replica of the original Fort Ouiatenon\, which was the first fortified European settlement in what is now called Indiana. One historical interpreter presented a Delaware Indian who first served as a scout for the French and whose people lived along the Wabash River in the 1700s and co-existed peacefully with the French at the outpost. Others play traders and gunsmiths\, such as “Pierre Rolletof” of French Scots-Irish descent who traveled along the Wabash River trading a range of items\, including guns\, and also gunsmithed as he traveled. The Battle was the first planned attack by the American army during the Revolutionary War and aimed at liberating Philadelphia from British control. Eleven of Historic Germantown’s sites were involved in the October 4\, 1777 Battle\, with Cliveden as the main stage. The tradition of remembering the Battle of Germantown through reenactment dates to the 150th anniversary in 1927\, where people dressed in their ancestors’ clothing to show their connections to the historic event. Today\, the Revolutionary Germantown Festival and Germantown Battle Reenactments that it includes\, tells the diverse stories of everyone involved\, from General George Washington\, to Ned Hector\, an African American Patriot teamster\, and even the pacifist Quakers who got caught in the cross-fire. \nHistory of the Battle of Germantown\nOne day in history\, General George Washington’s daring campaign to liberate the occupied capital city\, Philadelphia\, came to an abrupt end on the Germantown Road on October 4\, 1777. Washington planned a pre-dawn attack on Germantown\, where thousands of British soldiers were camped in the fields\, living off the crops and livestock of the local residents. Homes were commandeered as headquarters for the British officers\, including General William Howe at Stenton. Nearly 12\,000 Continental troops were marshaled for the attack\, yet 120 British infantrymen proved unbeatable as they barricaded themselves inside the thick stone walls of Cliveden\, the summer house of the wealthy Loyalist Benjamin Chew.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nFierce fighting raged for several hours throughout the area\, but Washington’s troops were eventually forced to retreat back into Montgomery County and the British tightened their hold on the town. After the Battle\, local teenagers helped to bury the dead in mass graves. More than 150 American soldiers were killed — about half of them on the grounds of Cliveden — and 70 British. Hundreds more on both sides were wounded. The Battle of Germantown left indelible scars on the community.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Revolutionary Germantown Festival and Battle Reenactment on the first Saturday in October around the Cliveden Mansion in Philadelphia\, Pennsylvania. \n \nTags: Revolutionary Germantown Festival\, Germantown Battle Reenactment\, Battle of Germantown Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactmetn \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

Signs and markers scattered about the park tell stories of a battle fought. Artifacts in a small museum reveal history of both sides of the war. And on the second weekend of October each year\, that silence will be shattered by the Battle of Droop Mountain Reenactment. The anniversary reenactment will play out again by host Bryans Battery Reenactment Group and other members of the West Virginia Reenactors Association. The event is open to the public with no admission charge. \nThe weekend includes a reenactment scenario tied to historical facts. The Saturday battle reflects the skirmish at Mill Point leading up to Droop Mountain. The Sunday battle will be the Battle of Droop Mountain itself\, reenacted on a portion of the actual battlefield. An unscripted tactical exercise covering most of the park grounds is scheduled for Saturday. Authentic Sutlers are welcome at Droop Mountain and there is a pre-registration process (see below form link) along with other Sutler and reenactor participation information. \n \nEarly Bird Registration\nPRE-REGISTRATION DATES: The Reenactor registration this year will be $10.00 if post marked\non or before September 1 and $15.00 if post marked after that date or for walk-ons. Averell\, in his second attempt to disrupt the Virginia-Tennessee Railroad at Salem\, Virginia\, faced again the Confederate troops of Brigadier General John Echols. Throughout the morning\, Echols’ smaller confederate army held the high ground and blocked the highway with artillery\, but in the afternoon was overwhelmed by the crushing advance of federal infantry on his left flank. Following the collapse of his lines\, General Echols retreated south into Virginia with the remnants of his command.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nFederal Troops occupied Lewisburg on November 7\, 1863\, but being burdened with prisoners and captured livestock\, General Averell elected to return to his headquarters in Beverly\, West Virginia\, waiting until early December to lead a third and ultimately successful attack on the vital railroad. Operations in the Shenandoah Valley in the spring of 1864 drew remaining confederate troops out of West Virginia\, thus leaving the new state securely under the control of the federal government for the remainder of the war.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Battle of Droop Mountain Reenactment on the second weekend of October at the Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park near Hillsboro\, West Virginia. \nTags: Battle of Droop Mountain Reenactment\, Battle of Droop Mountain Reenactment\, Battle of Droop Mt Reenactment\, Battle of Droop Mt Reenactment\, Civil War Reenactment \nView other Civil War Reenactments & Other Events

Thousands of people from across North America descend on the San Manuel Pow Wow the second weekend each October to compete for $250\,000 in prizes for dancing\, drumming and singing contests. The Pow Wow hosts hundreds of dancers and more notably\, several illustrious drums from throughout Indian Country. The event is hosted by the San Manuel Band of Serrano Mission Indians\, presented in the spirit of togetherness and affirmation of Native American culture. \n\nSan Manuel Pow Wow at Cal State San Bernardino\nThe San Manuel Pow Wow is always free to the public. This is an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the finest Native American singers\, dancers\, and drummers in North America and Canada. It’s also a time to reaffirm our cultural and spiritual roots\, both for individual tribes and for Native Americans as a whole. \nFriday: The San Manuel Pow Wow is a three-day event of music and dance that is both a celebration and competition with participants vying for prizes and honoring enduring Native traditions. Friday activity begins around sundown\, with an elder blessing the grounds with sage and offering a prayer for good spirit and a good time. This is traditionally followed by an exhibition of bird singing and dancing. The grand entry follows after which it’s time for the dancing (contest\, exhibition\, and intertribal). At the end of the evening\, there is a small procession removing the flags from the arena proper\, which ends each day. \nSaturday: Two grand entries highlight Saturday’s schedule\, one in the afternoon\, the other in the evening. Exhibitions of gourd dancing by Southern tribal representatives and bird singing/dancing precede the afternoon session; and a bird singing/dancing exhibition takes place before the evening’s grand entry. \nSunday: Both of the Grand Entries are followed by more dancing (contest\, exhibition\, and intertribal). Sunday features one grand entry in the afternoon\, which is again preceded by exhibitions of gourd dancing and bird singing/dancing. Then\, it’s time for the climactic round of contest dancing. It’s the last opportunity for all of the competitors to impress the judges. Once that is over\, the judges’ votes are tabulated\, the winners announced\, and prizes awarded. The Mississinewa 1812 Battle Reenactment is a historical commemoration of the Battle of Mississinewa fought here on December 17-18\, 1812. It’s a step back in time to 1812. \nTime Travel to 1812:\nIt was the morning of December 18\, 1812\, the morning of the Battle of the Mississinewa. Above the sound of fighting\, smell of gunpowder and feel of death rose one of the most significant chapters in the War of 1812 and dramatic moments in the history of Grant County\, Indiana. \n\nMississinewa 1812 Battle Reenactment\nWhere a step back in history is measured by 200 years…\nFaithful attention to authenticity has made Mississinewa 1812 the premiere living history event in Indiana. Here you will step back into the wilderness life of early Indiana Territory. \nMississinewa 1812 Battle Reenactment Includes:\nMilitary Encampments: You can visit British and American military camps and see what life was like for British and American soldiers in 1812. There will also be Native American legends who will share stories of their legends. \nVendors: Rivertown will play host to more than 140 merchants\, artisans\, and food sellers who will have goods and demonstrations of crafts\, food\, and drinks from 1812. There will also be reproductions of many 1812 items\, including “fine yard goods\, silver and tin ware\, pottery\, muskets and candles.” The food sellers will have English trap pies\, barbecued chops\, bratwurst\, ribs\, chicken\, stews\, baked potatoes\, French pastries\, and fry bread and ice cream. \nWilderness Area: Meet longhunters\, trappers\, voyagers\, in the wilderness camps along the river. Each camp will have demonstrations of fire starting\, open fire cooking\, and story telling.\nTraditional Crafts: Just like at Conner Prairie\, there are tradesmen and craftsmen at the Mississinewa 1812. Printers\, gunsmiths\, tinsmiths\, silversmiths\, and blacksmiths will all be in attendance\, as well soap makers\, potters\, and weavers. \nMississinewa 1812 Battle Reenactment Mini-Gallery\n\n \nMusic\, Song & Stories: Rivertown is filled with ongoing performances by Clockwork clown and Company\, Voyager Ancient Fife and Drum Corps\, Common Stock\, Dennis and Barbara Duffy\, Fiddlesix\, Rick and Hillary Wagner\, Tim Shaiper\, Liza and Mark Woolever\, Rodney the Younger\, Simple Gifts\, Carter Rost\, Strolling Singers\, Tom Franklin\, Bonnie Strassel and the territorial Loud school. \nMississinewa 1812 Battle Reenactment Schedule (tentative)\nFriday\nTIME EVENT SITE\n9:00 AM Morning Colors A\, B – Site opens to Public\n12:00 N Battle Reenactment R\n1:00 PM River Rogue Battle C\n4:00 PM Site closes to Public \nSaturday\nTIME EVENT SITE\n9:00 AM Morning Colors A\, B – Site opens to Public\n12:00 N Battle Reenactment R\n2:30 PM River Rogue Battle C\n3:30 PM Battle Reenactment R\n4:00 PM Evening Colors A\, B\n5:00 PM Site closes to Public \nSunday\nTIME EVENT SITE\n9:00 AM Morning Colors A\, B – Site opens to Public\n11:00 AM Battle Reenactment R\n1:30 PM Battle Reenactment R\n3:00 PM River Rogue Battle C\n3:30 PM Evening Colors A\, B\n4:00 PM Site Closes to Public \nSite Codes:\nA – American Military Program Area\nB – British Military Camp Area\nC – River Pirate Camp\nR – Battlefield \nLocation\nMississinewa 1812 Battle Reenactment Site\n6000 N 300 W27\nLa Fontaine\, IN 46940\nIMPORTANT NOTE: Use the above address for navigation.
