This two day event is a commemoration of the 1776 British invasion of New Jersey and the beginning of the Continenttal Army’s strategic “Retreat to Victory” is held each year at Fort Lee Historic Park on the weekend closest to the historic date of November 20. It includes reenactments of eighteenth-century life and weapon and battle demonstrations. \n\nRetreat Weekend at Fort Lee Historic Park\nThe march (retreat) begins at the site of Washington’s encampment in what is now Fort Lee Historic Park and travels to Main Street and Monument Park. Reenactors from the Brigade of the American Revolution hold a musket demonstration and gun salute followed by a hot cider and donut reception for both reenactors and the public at the adjacent Fort Lee Museum. \nRevolutionary Encampment at Fort Lee\nMembers from over a dozen Living History groups will commemorate the Anniversary of the British Invasion of New Jersey at Fort Lee Historic Park. It is a free event where people can step back in time to 1817 when the Seminole Wars began. This is a river front location at the exact spot where the event of national significance happened\, setting the stage for the three Seminole Wars to follow over the next 41 years. \n\nScott Massacre of 1817 Commemoration – 1st Seminole War Reenactment\nIf you represent Creek\, Seminole or Black Seminole warriors and families of the First Seminole War era\, please join us. It was the first U.S. defeat of the Seminole Wars and was ultimately the key factor in Spain’s agreement to cede Florida to the United States. Mile Branch Settlement is an 1800s log cabin village depicting early pioneer life in rural Louisiana. The Mile Branch Settlement Christmas features reenactors\, military demonstrations\, and demonstrations of daily life in rural pioneer life. The Christmas event features Quilt making\, spinning\, cooking\, artifact presentations and live period music. A meal is provided by the event volunteers on Saturday night to all living history participants. \n\nMile Branch Settlement Christmas\nThis unique event begins with a parade at 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Mile Branch Settlement is open only twice each year during the Washington Parish Fair in the third week of October and during the Pioneer Christmas celebration\, held the first weekend of December. \n \nAbout 150 years ago\, a small community in Washington Parish would have looked a lot like this. These log cabin homes were built by real Louisiana pioneers. The historical Mile Branch Settlement is located on the Washington Parish Fairgrounds in Franklinton\, LA. When a visitor steps through the unpainted picket fence and walks past the Richardson Gatehouse\, it is like entering another time period. The free event unfolds in stages from noon to midnight with activities that include: NARA Honorings\, Sobriety Count Down\, Dance Performances and Art and Craft Vendors. \nPhilip Archambault\, NARA’s traditional cultural director\, Hunkpapa Lakota member and Saturday’s master of ceremonies\, started the annual powwow in a Southeast Portland school\, where it drew scarcely more than 100 people.
