Fort Connah was a Hudson’s Bay Trading Post established in 1846. One of the three original buildings still remains and is believed to be the oldest standing building in Montana. The fort was active from 1846 to 1871. Another cabin has been moved onto the property and renovated for administrative purposes\, historical artifacts and displays. An 1870s log cabin-building has also been moved to Fort Connah for renovation. These two cabins and the original building will replicate the buildings that once made-up the original trading post. A semi-annual rendezvous gathering happens in May and September every year. The Ohio Civil War Show and Artillery Show is definitely one not to miss! \n\nOhio Civil War Show and Artillery Show\nThere will be about 380 exhibitors from 38 states participating in Ohio’s only show if this kind. It is expected to include 750 tables of military memorabilia — from 1775 through 1945 — for visitors who want to buy\, sell\, trade and display items. Started in 1969\, the Chippewa County Historical Society of Wisconsin is located in the original convent of Notre Dame Church. The convent was built in 1881. The four-story building has 49 rooms and five bathrooms. When the Chippewa County Historical Society took possession of the building in 1990\, the Sisters had not been living there for two years. The building required a lot of repair. While the Society is using the building rent-free\, it is responsible for the continued repairs and modifications. The station takes its name from Joseph Martin\, who led the expedition that identified that tract of land where they erected a stockaded fort\, some crude cabins\, and planted a corn crop. These efforts at settlement proved to be useless\, as an Indian attack occurred in the fall of 1769 and the station was abandoned. Being a Flag Bearer is an honor usually given to a veteran\, a respected traditional dancer\, or a traditional elder. Indian Royalty are next\, consisting of tribal and organizational princesses and other dignitaries. The Head Dancers lead a single file procession of dancers arranged by category and age. Everyone is asked to stand during the Grand Entry and men should remove their head coverings unless it has an eagle feather. The Native Americans at Dartmouth (NAD) and Native American Program (NAP) have hosted the Dartmouth Pow-Wow since 1973\, attracting over one-thousand on-lookers annually. \n\nDartmouth Powwow\nThe Dartmouth Powwow\, held each year on Mother’s Day weekend\, serves as an opportunity for members of both the Dartmouth and Upper Valley communities to observe\, participate\, and learn from a broad representation of Native American dances\, music\, food\, and arts. \nThe annual Dartmouth Powwow is a two-day celebration that first began in 1973. Andrew Shipman ’18 and Marina Van Pelt ’18 co-chaired the committee that oversees the event\, sponsored by a variety of organizations\, including Native Americans at Dartmouth\, the Native American Program\, the Native American Alumni Association at Dartmouth\, the Office of the President and the Special Programs and Events Committee. \nThe Dartmouth Powwow draws participants from around the country\, including those from many different tribes. Each tribe has a distinct style of dress\, and with the mix of traditional and contemporary colors\, each traditional dress regalia was unique. The components of a dress regalia are often handmade by the wearer himself or herself or passed down from prior generations. \nMen and women compete in two separate categories. For men\, the categories of dance are typically Fancy Dance\, Northern Traditional\, Southern Straight and the Modern Grass. For women\, categories typically include Traditional Buckskin or Cloth\, Fancy Shawl and Jingle Dress. \nAlmost two dozen vendors will surround the dance arena\, offering a wide variety of native crafts. Fry Bread\, a round disk of unsweetened fried dough\, is a native food favorite at this\, and all other powwows where it is found.
