While the original fort that Lancaster Lupton built has long been gone\, a dedicated group of individuals began in 2003 to reconstruct the fort. The reconstructed Fort Lancaster\, as it was known in its original period of operation\, 1836-1844\, was completed and dedicated in 2011.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nA visit to Lancaster Lupton’s trade fort is an experience of going back in time to when an individual with a vision and entrepreneurial spirit took risks to establish a trade enterprise on the wild prairie along the front range of the Rocky Mountains. Lancaster Lupton first came to the area with a military expedition in 1835. By 1836 Lupton had resigned his commission and was bringing skilled craftsman and labor from the Mexican village of Taos north to build his trade fort. By 1837-38 he was trading with the Arapahoe and Cheyenne tribes. Come see his trade fort and walk through the inner plaza to visit the blacksmith and carpenter shops\, living quarters\, kitchen and food preparation rooms\, trade rooms\, cantina and storage room with historic artifacts.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \nAbout South Platte Valley Historic Park\nHistoric Fort Lupton (aka Fort Lancaster) and South Platte Valley Settlement Historic Park encompasses 97 acres of land along the South Platte River just northwest of the city of Fort Lupton\, Colorado. The land consists of a large natural and camping area immediately along the river and a high bench of land where the original Fort Lancaster was located.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nAlong the river\, in groves of cottonwood trees are camping areas that can be used by Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops with reservations. These camping areas are also used by the re-enactment department of the SPVHS – the Tallow River Trappers – to hold periodic rendezvous events. Immediately along the river are nature areas that are home to deer\, turkey\, foxes and other animals and birds. At the north end of the historic park is a muzzleloading shooting range leased by the Fort Lupton Muzzleloading Club. \nStart your tour of the historic park at the re-creation of Fort Lancaster\, which was in operation from 1836 to 1844. Move down the path and see the restored trapper cabin from the 1850s\, which was originally located down along the Platte River in Adams County. Moving further down the path\, your will see both the Independence School built in 1875 and the Donelson homestead house built in the 1860s. The Donelson House and the Independence School represent the settlement of the Platte Valley started by the early fur trappers and traders.[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nTags: Fort Lupton Heritage Fair\, Colorado History Festival\, History Timeline\nDon’t miss the next Fort Lupton Heritage Fair at the South Platte Valley Historic Park in Fort Lupton\, Colorado. George acquired Mount Vernon in 1754\, and over the next 45 years slowly enlarged the dwelling to create the resplendent 21-room residence we see today. Washington personally supervised each renovation; advising on design\, construction and decoration—even during the Revolutionary War. Conscious that the world was watching\, Washington selected architectural features that expressed his growing status as a Virginia gentleman planter and ultimately as the leader of a fledgling democratic nation. \nThe Chintz Room\nAfter several years of research\, work\, and collaboration with colleagues and craftsmen throughout the country\, the restoration and refurnishing of the Chintz Room\, formerly known as the Nelly Custis Room\, is complete. \nMansion Outbuildings\nLook inside more than a dozen outbuildings where many of the estate’s essential operations—such as laundry\, spinning\, and meat curing—were performed. Demonstrations occur daily at our working blacksmith shop. Visit time: 30 minutes. Mount Vernon’s historic outbuildings house the many important trades that sustained the bustling plantation. \nIn the latter half of the eighteenth century\, Mount Vernon was the home\, farm\, and thriving business of one of America’s most prominent citizens. The essential operations of the plantation were performed in numerous buildings scattered throughout the estate. Washington built these vital workspaces during the 1760s-1790s\, in his ongoing pursuit of economic independence and financial success. \nFisheries and the Potomac River\nEach spring\, when fish began running past Mount Vernon’s ten-mile shoreline\, everyone dropped everything and headed to the river to haul in more than a million fish in a matter of weeks. \n16-Sided Barn\nLearn more about Washington’s innovative barn complex at Dogue Run. \nBlacksmith Shop\nBlacksmithing was an important craft activity throughout most of the Washington family’s ownership of the Mount Vernon plantation. The earliest known reference to a shop dates to 1755. \nSutler Application\nhttp://s3.amazonaws.com/mtv-main-assets/files/resources/revolutionary-war-weekend-2018–sutler-registratio.pdf[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Revolutionary War Weekend at Mount Vernon on the first weekend of May at George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Mount Vernon\, Virginia. \nTags: Revolutionary War Weekend at Mount Vernon\, Revolutionary War Weekend\, Revolutionary War Weekend at George Washingtons Mount Vernon\, Revolutionary War Weekend at Mt Vernon\, Revolutionary War Reenactment\, Revolutionary War Reenactment at Mount Vernon \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments\, Musters\, Encampments & Other Events

Witness history come alive as hundreds of living historians re-enact life at Joseph Martins frontier fort. Watch as two cultures clash and the flames of war are once again ignited on Virginia’s frontier. Activities include tours of Cherokee Warrior and Colonial Militia camps\, frontier fort life\, and 18th century merchants and colonial traders selling their wares. Various seminars on 18th century topics will be conducted by world renowned historians and lecturers. Frontier battles between the natives and the settlers highlight the Raid at Martin’s Station reenactment at 1 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. War is imminent! \n\nMartin’s Station Reenactment\nThe Raid at Martin’s Station reenactment can be better described as an “on-going living history demonstration” rather than a “reenactment” by its usual definition. While the event is hosted and coordinated by the Wilderness Road State Park\, the Friends of Wilderness Road sponsor the event. The activities associated with the Raid and trade fair are the combined efforts of the local civic\, community\, and school groups\, 18th century suttlers and merchants\, and various military and native reenactment groups. \nAdmission: $10 per vehicle ($4 on Sunday) \nSchedule of Events (Subject to Change) \nDaily Events (Friday & Saturday – Ongoing)\nOpen Hearth Cooking * Militia Drill * Blacksmithing * Colonial Surveying * 18th Century Market Farie * Cherokee Camp * Hide Tanning * Spinning and Weaving *\nArtillery Firing * Musket Firing * 18th Century Music * Candle Making \nSaturday\n10:00 am Sons of the American Revolution Historical Observance (Visitor’s Center)\n10:15 am Program – Developing your Historic Persona\n11:00 am Seminar – To be announced\n1:00 pm Battle Reenactment (Martin’s Station*)\n2:00 pm To be announced\n3:15 pm Seminar – To be announced\n4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Seminar (hourly) – To be announced\n8:30 pm Night Battle Reenactment (Martin’s Station*) \nSunday\n10:00 am 18th Century Church Services (Martin’s Station)\n11:00 am Seminar – To be announced\n1:00 pm Program – To be announced\n2:30 pm Lowering of the Colors (Martin’s Station)\n* Visitors must move out of historic area during battle reenactments for safety. \nLocation\nHistoric Martin’s Station at Wilderness Road State Park\n8051 Wilderness Road\nEwing\, VA 24248 \nFor More Information: 276-445-3065 WildernessRoad@dcr.virginia.gov \nHistory of Martin’s Station\nThe original Martin’s Station played a relatively short but significant part in the history of southwestern Virginia and the early settlement of Kentucky. The station takes its name from Joseph Martin\, who led the expedition that identified that tract of land where they erected a stockaded fort\, some crude cabins\, and planted a corn crop. These efforts at settlement proved to be useless\, as an Indian attack occurred in the fall of 1769 and the station was abandoned. Joseph Martin would not be long absent from the station\, and in January 1775 returned to Powell’s Valley with a party of 16 or 18 men who built a more permanent station. As the last fortified station along the Wilderness Road prior to reaching the new lands being opened in Kentucky\, Martin’s Station was a well-known stop for the early settlers. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Raid at Martin’s Station reenactment at the Wilderness Road State Park in Ewing\, Virginia. \nTags: Martin’s Station Reenactment\, Martin’s Station \nView other Revolutionary War Reenactments & Other Events\nView other Market Fair & Trade Fair Events

The number of categories varies among regions according to local traditions and to the number of dancers. Dancers are judged on their regalia\, as well as their dancing style. Dancing out of beat\, losing regalia\, or failing to stop on the fast drum beat can disqualify a dancer. The age categories being with Tiny Tots which are children five years old and under\, Boys and Girls ages 6 to 11 are next\, then Boys and Girls ages 12-17. The adult categories are divided between men and women ages 18 to 49. The Golden Age category is for men and women over 50. \nAbout the Grand Entry\nThe Grand Entry begins each session with a procession of dancers. The Flag Bearers lead the procession carrying the Eagle Staff\, American Flag\, Canadian Flag\, and frequently\, the MIA-POW Flag. Being a Flag Bearer is an honor usually given to a veteran\, a respected traditional dancer\, or a traditional elder. Indian Royalty are next\, consisting of tribal and organizational princesses and other dignitaries. The Head Dancers lead a single file procession of dancers arranged by category and age. Everyone is asked to stand during the Grand Entry and men should remove their head coverings unless it has an eagle feather. After all the dancers are in the arena\, a flag song is sung to honor the Eagle Staff and the flags. Then a respect person\, usually an elder\, offers a prayer. This is followed by a victory song during which the Eagle Staff and flags are placed in their standards. At this time\, the Master of Ceremonies will introduce the Head Dancers and Royalty. \nMariposa Pow Wow Head Staff\nMASTER OF CEREMONIES: To Be Announced\nARENA DIRECTOR: To Be Announced\nHOST DRUM: To Be Announced\nHEAD MAN: To Be Announced\nHEAD WOMAN: To Be Announced\nTEEN BOY: To Be Announced\nTEEN GIRL: To Be Announced\nTINYTOT BOY: To Be Announced\nTINY TOT GIRL: To Be Announced \nMariposa Pow Wow Schedule (subject to change)\nSATURDAY \n10:00 AM Gates Open\n12:00 PM Grand Entry\n1:00 PM Mariposa Pow Wow Princess Crowning\nTiny Tot Dancing\, Competition Dancing\, Inter-Tribal Dancing\n6:00 PM Dinner Break\, Miwuk Dancing\n7:00 PM Grand Entry\n8:00 PM Competition Dancing\nspacerAdult Categories\nInter-Tribal Dancing\n10:00 PM Closing Ceremonies \nSUNDAY\n10:00 AM Gates Open\n11:00 AM Grand Entry & Opening Prayer\n12:00 PM Competition Dancing\n3:30 PM Awards Ceremony\n7:00 PM Grand Entry\n4:00 PM Closing Ceremonies \nFor More Information\nMariposa Powwow Committee: Call 209-721-2244; Email mariposapowwow@gmail.com \nAbsolutely no smoking\, drugs or alcohol allowed. The Native Americans at Dartmouth (NAD) and Native American Program (NAP) have hosted the Dartmouth Pow-Wow since 1973\, attracting over one-thousand on-lookers annually. \n\nDartmouth Powwow\nThe Dartmouth Powwow\, held each year on Mother’s Day weekend\, serves as an opportunity for members of both the Dartmouth and Upper Valley communities to observe\, participate\, and learn from a broad representation of Native American dances\, music\, food\, and arts. \nThe annual Dartmouth Powwow is a two-day celebration that first began in 1973. Andrew Shipman ’18 and Marina Van Pelt ’18 co-chaired the committee that oversees the event\, sponsored by a variety of organizations\, including Native Americans at Dartmouth\, the Native American Program\, the Native American Alumni Association at Dartmouth\, the Office of the President and the Special Programs and Events Committee. \nThe Dartmouth Powwow draws participants from around the country\, including those from many different tribes. Each tribe has a distinct style of dress\, and with the mix of traditional and contemporary colors\, each traditional dress regalia was unique. The components of a dress regalia are often handmade by the wearer himself or herself or passed down from prior generations. \nMen and women compete in two separate categories. For men\, the categories of dance are typically Fancy Dance\, Northern Traditional\, Southern Straight and the Modern Grass. For women\, categories typically include Traditional Buckskin or Cloth\, Fancy Shawl and Jingle Dress. \nAlmost two dozen vendors will surround the dance arena\, offering a wide variety of native crafts. Fry Bread\, a round disk of unsweetened fried dough\, is a native food favorite at this\, and all other powwows where it is found. If you see lines in front of a booth\, there’s a good chance they offer some type of fry bread. \nDartmouth Powwow Mini Gallery\n\n \nCome experience the sights\, sounds and smells of the Dartmouth Powwow\, including dancing\, drumming and singin\, beautiful dance regalia – all coming together on The Green. Participation in the past events does not guarantee your invitation to the event. Our focus for the Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous is the Fur Trade in Wisconsin from 1750 through 1840; priority will be given to reenactors\, presenters\, sutlers\, and entertainers who are excellent demonstrators and educators\, and who are willing to participate in our School Day on Friday. Participants will be asked to provide photos and links\, or a statement\, describing your individual or group presentation; we are looking for dedication to historical accuracy\, and a thorough knowledge of the time period and the people you are representing. If you are interested in participating in the event\, please fill out the contact form below. In the comment section\, please add your individual or group description\, and any links\, if applicable. If you meet our requirements\, registration forms will be sent to you. Only individuals who have sent in registration will be admitted to the event. Participant Registration \nVolunteers\nWe are looking to work with local Civic and Non-Profit groups to provide food\, beverages\, and services at the event\, but individuals are welcome\, as well. Historical attire will be required and facilitated\, and booth space will be provided to nonprofits. This is an excellent fundraising or service opportunity. If you are interested\, please contact us! \nHistory of the Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous\nSince 1988\, the Saukville Historical Society has been dedicated to preserving\, recording and\nmaintaining the historical information and antiquities of the Saukville Area\, as well as promoting the awareness of the area’s historical culture\, to develop an understanding of\, and pride in\, our past\, and to recognize its importance in the future. \nFrom 1991 to 2006\, the SHS ran the Crossroads Rendezvous historical reenactment at Peninsula Park every third weekend in May\, bringing thousands of visitors to Saukville and providing an incredibly unique educational experience for area children and their families. Revenue from the event funded the restoration of the 1912 Firehouse\, located on Mill Street in Saukville\, that the Historical Society calls home. \nIn the fall of 2017\, Mary Boyle and Sara Dahmen\, two historical reenactors from Port Washington\, decided it was time to bring the Crossroads Rendezvous back. Together\, with their families and the Saukville Historical Society\, they are excited to introduce a new generation of visitors to the magic of living history and the important part “the crossroads” of Saukville played in the history of our community\, State\, and Country. Join us at the Crossroads this May! \nHistory of the Crossroads\nThe Township and Village of Saukville are located at the ancient crossroads of two major American Indian trails: the old Decorah Road and the old Green Bay Road. The Decorah Road became the present-day Wisconsin Highway 33\, and the old Green Bay Road became the road that is now part of the southern portion of Ozaukee County Highway O and the northern portion of Ozaukee County Highway W. The Indian trails crossed where the Milwaukee River makes an unusual bending loop\, forming a unique river peninsula.[su_accordion][su_spoiler title=”Read More”]\nThe Green Bay Trail\, which had a great impact on the settlement of southeast Wisconsin and the State\, overall\, connected Fort Howard at Green Bay with Fort Dearborn in Chicago\, and ran through Saukville. This system of trails extended from Hudson Bay all the way to Florida. In 1993\, the Wisconsin State Legislature designated the Green Bay Trail route\, from the Illinois State line to Green Bay\, an official heritage route\, the “Green Bay Ethnic Trail.”\n* From the Village of Saukville Downtown Revitalization Plan[/su_spoiler][/su_accordion] \n \nAbout the Sponsor\nThe Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous is presented by the Saukville Historical Society\, a 501 (c) (3) organization affiliated with the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Please direct any questions or concerns regarding the event to the organizers at info@crossroadsrendezvous.org\, or fill out the form below. \nMark your calendar today so you don’t miss the next Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous on the third weekend of May at Peninsula Park in Saukville\, Wisconsin. \nTags: Saukville Crossroads Rendezvous\, Crossroads Rendezvous\, Saukville Rendezvous\, Wisconsin Rendezvous\, Wisconsin Mountain Man Rendezvous\, Wisconsin Voyageur Rendezvous \nView other Wisconsin Rendezvous

So let’s celebrate the Lone Star State’s historic past with re-enactors in full costume and regalia (look for famous scout Deaf Smith)\, cultural exhibits\, Sahawe Indian dancers and retro demonstrations about rustic life on the frontier: cannon and rifle fire\, blacksmithing\, glass-blowing and woodworking. \nEach year\, visitors from all over the Greater Houston area and surrounding school districts flock to Huntsville for the annual Gen.
